Voice control and smart home

Hi, after ten minutes of radio app use, my new sonos one fails to respond to voice commands to stop. My old echo dot and my Sonos beam are fine. The only command that works is “mute” but that is just covering up a major issue that streaming is still using data.    

I bought Philips Hue Bluetooth lights to use with Alexa on the Sonos Beam. The lights were advertised as not requiring a Philips Bridge/Hub. However, every step of the way to try to set them up, I’m asked to link with a Bridge/Hub. I can control the lights from the Philips App, but Alexa on the Beam can’t locate the lights. Am I doing something wrong or is Alexa on the Beam not yet supported to control these Bluetooth lights without a Philips Bridge/Hub installed?   Thanks very much!

I have a Sonos 5.1 (beam, sub and 2 ones). When I turn off the tv using the google assistant the sonos speakers are automatically muted. The don’t unmute automatically if I play music (i.e. Spotify). Is there a way to disable this automatic muting?

Bought a sonos over a year ago as I was impressed with the sound quality. The selling point though was that it would have google asistant as i use alot of nest and google products.1 year later no sign of google assistant in ireland. UK USA Canada australia who are all english speaking have it. Other languages have also been rolled out. If I lived in Nothern Ireland which is part of UK could get Goolge assistant but not in the south of Ireland. Do not understand. Our accent is not that thick that google would not understand . Nest and other google assistant devices work in the south of ireland. So dissapointed should have invested money in a different product. WHY taking so long and no date in sight

Hi there, I’m getting quite frustrated by the amount of "Sorry, I don't know how to help with that yet" and other various apologies or no response from Google Assistant on my Sonos One (gen 1) when trying to play music via Spotify Premium. I’ve had the same setup (see bottom of this article) for almost 9 months and for the first 4-5 months this was pretty fluid and worked well, but it seems to have got progressively worse, and often ends at me yelling at Google. I haven’t changed anything in the system setup detailed further down. I used to be able to easily say “OK Google, play The Eagles” or whatever song / album / artist and the only issues I would have were with my accent / variations of artists etc. But now it seems really difficult for Google Assistant to know I even have Spotify. I have to try a huge myriad of sentences, some as long as “OK Google, play The Eagles on Spotify on my Sonos Lounge System”, all of which there is no rhyme or rhythm. Hi there, I’m wondering if it’s possible to achieve this with Sonos if garage door sensor shows door opened for ## minutes, then play a specific alarm in Sonos until door is closed or a set time limit is up.   Any suggestion on how to achieve this?

I have had problems controlling the volume of the Sonos Beam with a Harmony remote ever since I purchased the Beam about 6 months ago. The volume control (using the Harmony) seems to work for a period of time and then stops. It may be related to playing music through the Beam then switching back to the TV. Usually I reboot the TV, Beam and Harmony hub and it starts working again. This time it doesn't resolve itself. I can control the beam through the Sonos app. I cannot put the volume up/down/mute using the Harmony remote. I also can't put the volume up/down/mute using the Harmony app on the phone. I have read quite a number of online articles and have tried selecting "TV" again in the Sonos app. That doesn't fix it. I have also tried switching the remote to only using IR for the Sonos beam but when I sync remote and app it resets itself to wifi + mini blasters. I have tried hanging one of the mini blasters in front of the Beam but that also doesn't work. I can't re-program the volume

This is driving me mad now.    I have a pair of Play:1s in my kitchen paired with an Echo Dot. Since the Beeb fell out with TuneIn I can no longer use Alexa to turn on the radio. A Yonomi/Alexa routine worked for a while but ‘Favourites’ seem to have vanished from the Sonos app. Asking Alexa to play ‘BBC Radio 6 Music from TuneIn (thus avoiding the BBC app that will play it on the Dot)’ plays ‘BBC Radio York’ on the Sonos -as does creating a simple Alexa routine. I can’t even ask my Sonos Ones in the living room to play ‘BBC 6 Music in the kitchen’ as that command plays ‘No Scrubs’ by ‘TLC’ from Apple Music for unknowable reasons.    The kitchen is the most likely place for me to find myself without my phone it would seem, and the Sonos app is the only way to make it play. I bought these bloody Play: 1s about three months before they announced the Sonos Ones as well    

I apologize if this has been asked before, but I’ve searched all over and can’t find a full answer. Is Sonos compatible with the Echo Show in terms of display? I realize that Sonos and Alexa “work together,” but does the Show display anything music related on it when you are playing music? My parents have all Google Home products, but I know that their Hub displays album art and song info when it is playing Pandora. This isn’t a dealbreaker, but it would be nice to see it displayed if possible. Everything I read just talks about Sonos integration with Alexa. But my understanding of that just means I can tell Alexa to play music and doesn’t refer to a display of any sort. Thanks in advance!

Having gone through a week-long Email conversation with Sonos I have now been told that the Alexa follow-on mode has been removed. I can see that there have been a number of issues with this feature. Can anyone confirm that it is no longer available? I am in the U.K. (if that makes any difference). It is also interesting that the list of device settings for the Sonos is very limited compared to the same on my Alexa Dot 😬

I have the Google assistant app loaded and it recognizes the Sonos One speaker and the microphone is activated but The Google assistant does not respond to commands.  Is it possible the Sonos is defective or is it just user error?

Just got the Sonos One, connected to Google Assistant with YouTube Music. Some music commands work well, but some I get “Sure Playing [song name]” and right after that “Sorry I can’t find what you asked for”.  It doesn’t seems to be the connection with YouTube Music because some songs do work. Could it be that the Sonos see only a portion of the YouTube Music library?  When I search for the song in the YouTube Music App, I see it, but when I search for it in the Sonos App (connected to same YouTube Music account), I cannot see it.

So I've read all the posts about the inability of Sonos to change the wake word. The branding of Alexa Enabled Device, is the get out of jail free card, meaning its not a 'full' Amazon Alexa Voice Services experience. In a household with my young Daughter, Alexa, this has gotten to the point, where I have had to disable the mic on my newly purchased Beam. Sure I could return it, I'm reasonably confident Sonos would refund rather than argue I should have read the AVS (Alexa Voice Services) agreements that third parties have to have their devices referred to as Alexa. But what I am not seeing in the posts related to this topic is a response from Sonos, as it relates to lobbying Amazon, or responses from Amazon as it relates to this lobbying. I'm confident that in time the 'false positives' (Brexit, Alexander, and other words) will be filtered out, but in my house, I need to be able to change the name to one of the other 'accepted' Echo Wake words. We are not able to enable both these voice assistants but are forced to choose. I'm sure I'm not the only one assuming Amazon, Google or both companies are actively preventing us from enabling both at the same time. I have however seen media reports that Sonos have publicly stated this is to enhance user experience. We'll probably never know the full reasons why this isn't currently possible. I've created this thread so that those of us wishing for both to be enabled can clearly state that our user experience would be enhanced by being given the option to enable both assistants on the same device at the same time.

I have 2 x Sonos Ones Gen 2 configured in stereo. Sound quality is excellent. Response to Google Assistant commands however is terrible. I have other Google Assistant devices around my home which respond to commands first time everytime. Is there a known problem here which is being investigated? Maybe a software update in the very near future? Help please as is almost unusable.

The Alexa skills “Tell Me a Story, and “Amazon Storytime” are both no longer functional after the latest Sonos software update.    Now, the only way I can get them to work is through the Alexa app on my iPhone.    Previously, prior to the update, I was able to get the skills to work through my Sonos speakers, like regular Alexa skills.    Both the Alexa skill and the Sonos skill were updated. After the updates, the story skills no longer work through the Sonos speakers.    This is especially missed during the holidays, as I cannot ask her to tell me a Christmas story, or even a bedtime story at this point. 

Alexa keeps telling me to   “First enable the skill for your Sonos one second edition in the Alexa app. Then ask me to discover devices”. I keep going to the Alexa app and Sonos is already enabled. I press the “Enable smart home skills” tab and it takes me back to a page Smart Home with over 1400 results. I’m stuck and don’t know what else to try. 

Thankfully we can now turn off the alexa wake sound, but is there any way that we can turn off the post command beep sound from alexa?     also has there been any improvement with the alexa voice being so loud?   thanks kevin

So you’ve read all about Amazon Alexa working with Sonos and you want to know more. Here’s a rundown of how the integration works. Your Amazon Alexa devices are listening for you to say the wake word, “Alexa”. When they hear that word, the microphones record what you say and send the audio to the Amazon Alexa cloud to be translated. That voice line turns into a string of text. The Amazon protocols determine if it’s meant for Amazon Alexa or for a Sonos player. If it’s for Sonos, that text is then sent directly, and securely, over to the Sonos cloud to be turned into a command using our own codes. Finally, the Sonos intended command goes down to the system. I am constantly getting the “I can’t reach the internet right now” from Google Assistant (GA) running on both my Sonos One speakers.  GA on my phone has no such issues and neither do three Google Home Minis in my home.  The speakers themselves have Wifi connections because I can use the Sonos app to play musing on them with no issues.   Suggestions?   This is quite annoying.   I bought two One’s in December 2017 only because of the promis of GA availability in the near future, then had to put up with the constant delays from Sonos to the point where I had forgotten all about this.  A few weeks ago I realized that GA for Sonos is finally out and installed it, only to get these issues.  Have no interest in Alexa, Amazon already knows way too much about me to give them yet more information.

Hi, Up until recently I could cast music from the Amazon Music Android app to any of my Sonos speakers. For background, I have one Play:5 1st gen, two stereo pairs of Play:1s, and a Sonos Beam plus 2 Play:1s, each in different rooms. I can no cast to any of these from Amazon, I’ve had the “Amazon is streaming on another device” error, but now I don’t even get that - the app claims to be connected to the Sonos device I want to cast to, but nothing plays. Using the Sonos app, the system works fine, it’s just Amazon that’s a problem. I can play Amazon content from the Sonos app, but for some reason the range of music available from Amazon inside Sonos seems very limited, hence the need to cast from the Amazon app. I don’t use Alexa or any other voice thing. Does anyone know whether Alexa is now required for casting from Amazon Music? I’ve tried uninstalling Amazon Music and Sonos from all Android devices, then reinstalling. I’ve tried removing than adding the Amazon Music service to the S

I keep getting the message “looks like there aren’t any other speakers connected on your home network so I can’t broadcast your message.” I am able to group and play on my play one speakers with the the sonos app and I can also use Spotify direct control so I know they are on the network. I am also able to see the speakers in the google home app. Anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this? From the home app I try to broadcast and it says broadcasting now but nothing is broadcasted. Hi I’ve been trying to connect my ring doorbell 1 with my sonos but not getting anywhere. I’ve tried the IFTTT applets but that’s not working either. Any ideas anyone?
