Amazon Alexa and Sonos

Hello, I’ve been using Alexa (amazon.co.uk account) and Sonos (incl. Sonos One) for years with no issue. Few weeks ago some of my Sonos devices went offline. I had to reset all the system to resolve the issue. Everything but Sonos One is working back OK. But I cannot enable Alexa on my Sonos One.  I did:  - factory reset of Sonos One (several times, including reconnection thru wifi and thru ethernet).  - uninstall / reinstall Sonos & Alexa app on my iPhone  - disable skill and re-enable with account linking Sonos skill in Alexa app   My Sonos One is working, but only one way. It is not listening to Alexa commands. Mic is ON of course. What I think is that my current iPhone Sonos app looks a bit different that it used to and I cannot find options that are mentioned in dozens of tutorials and howtos that I am studying for weeks.   Here is how it looks currently: Please note that there is Settings option in right bottom corner and there used to be “More” option. I live in Romania but speak English. I cannot get Alexa or Google Assistant to work on my Sonos One. Is there a fix?

Do we have the capability to play Sonos within Alexa groups yet? I can see that it was discussed early in 2019, but can’t see a recent update on this.

Hi   Just bought a Sonos one speaker. Everything connected to same network. It plays fine, can ask for Radio 6 for example and it works. I can play Spotify on my phone ans physically select the speaker from the device list. However, if I ask Alexa to play something, it just searches amazon music instead of Spotify, even though I have Spotify as the default.    When I say “Alexa, play Spotify”, it says that my account doesn’t support streaming on the device   Any ideas?

I have two Sonos ones and have never been able to control Spotify using Alexa.  I can play spotify on the Sonos through both the Sonos and Spotify app.  However if I say ‘Alexa play spotify’ the response I get is “Here is spotify, sorry that device is offline” I have removed Alexa off both Sonos devices, disabled the spotify skill and then re-added everything.  Still not working.  I bought the Sonos One for the Alexa feature and its not working… grrrrr.  My son just bought an echo and Spotify works perfectly on it. Can anyone help fix this please.

 Is it possible to play the same music over my Alexa.and my Sonos one SL?  Although Alexa is enabled on all equipment I cannot play same music on both.  I have tried to do a multi media group but Sonos speaker does not show as an available speaker.   I see this question was asked about a year ago but I’m wondering if there’s an update.   thank you

Hi, -This worked up until a couple of months ago. -An Alexa request now results in the Audible Book being played on the echo/dot but not on sonos -Audible books play over sonos perfectly using Sonos Apps. -I've logged out of Audible/Amazon, Alexa app and logged back in using same credentials. -I've deleted all the devices from the Alexa app, disabled and re-enabled the sonos skill, re-discovered devices - no change in problem. -I just spoke to Sonos tech support - they tell me that if an alexa request to play Audible Books over sonos doesn't work, then I need to contact Amazon because Sonos only supports playing music. I am skeptical. If true, then I'm disappointed in Sonos. If It's not true, then I'm disappointed in Sonos support Here's an excerpt from Sonos' website: "..... Recently switched my sonos 1's for ones in a 5.1 surround. Both ones set up as different alexa areas to differentiate. Every thing is setting up and adding as it should and working as it should via the controller. But I cannot get anything to play in/on my living room which is the surround set up via alexa. I've scrolled through most of the threads on here tried forgetting devices and re adding, I've tried re naming, I've disabled and enabled the skill several times nothing seems to be working. Also If I start music in a bedroom on the app and then ask alexa to play something in the same room it doesn't override the app, nothing happens.

I’m trying to use Alexa to play local music via Plex, on my Sonos system. I can’t quite get it all working and am wondering if there’s something that I need to configure differently, or if it’s just not doable at this point. Here’s my equipment: Sonos Playbar, Sub, and a pair of One SL speakers (configured as surrounds) Echo Dot  Raspberry Pi 3B running Plex media server with local MP3 files (also has a Samba server running) I’m pretty new to all this equipment, so please forgive me for any obvious oversights.  Plex is set up and working - can use the Sonos app on my phone to browse and play my local music (both with Plex and Samba) on the Raspberry Pi. The Echo Dot can play music from Plex on its local speaker (using the “Ask Plex…” command). The Echo Dot (Alexa app) has the Sonos devices configured as a default group, so when I ask it to play something from Amazon Music it will automatically play it on Sonos. Hi all help would be appreciated.  Using an echo spot and two play ones in the same room I used to be able to say “Alexa play bbc radio one in the master bedroom”. And it would play.    for a few weeks now (just haven’t had time to post for help) instead of playing radio one it plays radio Zürich! can anyone help? thanks Josh

I have setup my Amazon echo to work with Sonos using the Sonos skill.  The services I have available are Apple Music and Amazon music.  If I ask Echo to “play music by Abba in the Lounge” it plays the music through that zone player but it comes from Amazon Music rather than Apple Music.  I’ve deleted Amazon Music service from the Sonos app and set up Apple Music as the default preferred music service in the Alexa app however it still plays from Amazon. “play music by abba in the Lounge” - comes from Amazon Music through the Sonos “play music by abba” - comes from Apple Music through the echo speaker “play music by abba in the Lounge on Apple Music” - comes from Apple Music through the Sonos Is there anyway to get this working so that the default with Sonos is Apple as it is when using the internal speaker.  Otherwise I may swell just use the Sonos app and Alexa becomes redundant.  It doesn’t appear to be possible to disable Amazon Music on the Alexa/Echo.  

Hi everyone. I need a brief summary of Sonos, Alexa e and Sonos+Alexa limitations. In a perfect world, I would like a system that can: play multiroom music thru vocal commands play local music (stored on a Synology NAS) thru vocal commands From what I’ve learned in these days there are the following limitations (if you can confirm this): you can’t put Sonos and Alexa speakers in the same group you can’t play local music (on a NAS) with Alexa. The only solution is Synology skill (not available for my NAS) or My media skill (but it does not support more than 1 speaker at a time and I can’t install it on my NAS since I can’t create a virtual machine) Sonos can play NAS-stored music, but only thru the app and not thru vocal commands Please tell me if there are other known limitations which are unlikely to be “fixed”.   Also: if I have 2 passive ceiling speakers, attaching a Sonos Amp, can it be activated thru a Echo Dot wirelessly? Does Sonos Amp have any kind of stand by to reduce energy

I have just added another Sonos ONE to my collection. I now have 3 in total. When adding the last ONE, the microphone button is inactive. I have reset the speaker, the whole system and still nothing. I have enabled and disabled the skill in Alexa etc, but nothing seems to work. To add to the mystery, when resetting the system, one of my other ONE's has now got the same problem; a totally inactive microphone button. Any ideas? Many thanks.

Hi, after ten minutes of radio app use, my new sonos one fails to respond to voice commands to stop. My old echo dot and my Sonos beam are fine. The only command that works is “mute” but that is just covering up a major issue that streaming is still using data.    

I bought Philips Hue Bluetooth lights to use with Alexa on the Sonos Beam. The lights were advertised as not requiring a Philips Bridge/Hub. However, every step of the way to try to set them up, I’m asked to link with a Bridge/Hub. I can control the lights from the Philips App, but Alexa on the Beam can’t locate the lights. Am I doing something wrong or is Alexa on the Beam not yet supported to control these Bluetooth lights without a Philips Bridge/Hub installed?   Thanks very much!

This is driving me mad now.    I have a pair of Play:1s in my kitchen paired with an Echo Dot. Since the Beeb fell out with TuneIn I can no longer use Alexa to turn on the radio. A Yonomi/Alexa routine worked for a while but ‘Favourites’ seem to have vanished from the Sonos app. Asking Alexa to play ‘BBC Radio 6 Music from TuneIn (thus avoiding the BBC app that will play it on the Dot)’ plays ‘BBC Radio York’ on the Sonos -as does creating a simple Alexa routine. I can’t even ask my Sonos Ones in the living room to play ‘BBC 6 Music in the kitchen’ as that command plays ‘No Scrubs’ by ‘TLC’ from Apple Music for unknowable reasons.    The kitchen is the most likely place for me to find myself without my phone it would seem, and the Sonos app is the only way to make it play. I bought these bloody Play: 1s about three months before they announced the Sonos Ones as well    

I apologize if this has been asked before, but I’ve searched all over and can’t find a full answer. Is Sonos compatible with the Echo Show in terms of display? I realize that Sonos and Alexa “work together,” but does the Show display anything music related on it when you are playing music? My parents have all Google Home products, but I know that their Hub displays album art and song info when it is playing Pandora. This isn’t a dealbreaker, but it would be nice to see it displayed if possible. Everything I read just talks about Sonos integration with Alexa. But my understanding of that just means I can tell Alexa to play music and doesn’t refer to a display of any sort. Thanks in advance!

Having gone through a week-long Email conversation with Sonos I have now been told that the Alexa follow-on mode has been removed. I can see that there have been a number of issues with this feature. Can anyone confirm that it is no longer available? I am in the U.K. (if that makes any difference). It is also interesting that the list of device settings for the Sonos is very limited compared to the same on my Alexa Dot 😬

So I've read all the posts about the inability of Sonos to change the wake word. The branding of Alexa Enabled Device, is the get out of jail free card, meaning its not a 'full' Amazon Alexa Voice Services experience. In a household with my young Daughter, Alexa, this has gotten to the point, where I have had to disable the mic on my newly purchased Beam. Sure I could return it, I'm reasonably confident Sonos would refund rather than argue I should have read the AVS (Alexa Voice Services) agreements that third parties have to have their devices referred to as Alexa. But what I am not seeing in the posts related to this topic is a response from Sonos, as it relates to lobbying Amazon, or responses from Amazon as it relates to this lobbying. I'm confident that in time the 'false positives' (Brexit, Alexander, and other words) will be filtered out, but in my house, I need to be able to change the name to one of the other 'accepted' Echo Wake words. The Alexa skills “Tell Me a Story, and “Amazon Storytime” are both no longer functional after the latest Sonos software update.    Now, the only way I can get them to work is through the Alexa app on my iPhone.    Previously, prior to the update, I was able to get the skills to work through my Sonos speakers, like regular Alexa skills.    Both the Alexa skill and the Sonos skill were updated. After the updates, the story skills no longer work through the Sonos speakers.    This is especially missed during the holidays, as I cannot ask her to tell me a Christmas story, or even a bedtime story at this point. 

Alexa keeps telling me to   “First enable the skill for your Sonos one second edition in the Alexa app. Then ask me to discover devices”. I keep going to the Alexa app and Sonos is already enabled. I press the “Enable smart home skills” tab and it takes me back to a page Smart Home with over 1400 results. I’m stuck and don’t know what else to try. 

Thankfully we can now turn off the alexa wake sound, but is there any way that we can turn off the post command beep sound from alexa?     also has there been any improvement with the alexa voice being so loud?   thanks kevin

So you’ve read all about Amazon Alexa working with Sonos and you want to know more. Here’s a rundown of how the integration works. Your Amazon Alexa devices are listening for you to say the wake word, “Alexa”. When they hear that word, the microphones record what you say and send the audio to the Amazon Alexa cloud to be translated. That voice line turns into a string of text. The Amazon protocols determine if it’s meant for Amazon Alexa or for a Sonos player. If it’s for Sonos, that text is then sent directly, and securely, over to the Sonos cloud to be turned into a command using our own codes. Finally, the Sonos intended command goes down to the system. Hi, Up until recently I could cast music from the Amazon Music Android app to any of my Sonos speakers. For background, I have one Play:5 1st gen, two stereo pairs of Play:1s, and a Sonos Beam plus 2 Play:1s, each in different rooms. I can no cast to any of these from Amazon, I’ve had the “Amazon is streaming on another device” error, but now I don’t even get that - the app claims to be connected to the Sonos device I want to cast to, but nothing plays. Using the Sonos app, the system works fine, it’s just Amazon that’s a problem. I can play Amazon content from the Sonos app, but for some reason the range of music available from Amazon inside Sonos seems very limited, hence the need to cast from the Amazon app. I don’t use Alexa or any other voice thing. Does anyone know whether Alexa is now required for casting from Amazon Music? I’ve tried uninstalling Amazon Music and Sonos from all Android devices, then reinstalling.
