Amazon Alexa and Sonos

After receiving the big marketing email pushing Sonos + Alexia integration and taking advantage of the Echo Dot discount offer I have a some early thoughts/opinions to share: --Setup Setting up an Echo Dot was fairly simply but I already had a full sized Amazon Echo and the mobile app installed on my iPhone which made things a lot easier. (Note, the Alexia app on IOS is quite possibly the worst app I've used... confusing, slow...) --Sonos Integration This went fine. Make sure you've updated your Sonos system to the latest release via your normal Sonos app before you start. OK, I exaggerated, this is not a solution to all problems, but for me it did solve several problems, and it resolves several problems discussed on this board. It's not my solution - I read the suggestion in a thread - but I cannot find that thread to give the author proper credit. The solution is ... make sure you have absolutely no devices with the same name. For example, I had an Echo in the bathroom called "Bathroom". I unplugged it and replaced it with a Sonos One called "Bathroom". The fact that I had two devices named "Bathroom", even though one was offline (in fact unplugged) really confused the Sonos/Alexa environment. The earlier thread I mentioned recommended that I go to the Sonos app (I used the one on my Windows PC, but I assume any of the Sonos apps would work), and rename all your Sonos devices to end in the word "Sonos". Over the past two weeks I have been incorporating a Sonos One into my multiple Sonos and Amazon Echo home environment. I have found the experience to be subpar at best, showing the difficulty of combining the technologies of Amazon into the Sonos ecosystem. What should be a plug and play experience is instead a complicated setup experience. The set-up steps are unforgiving. One misstep moving between the Sonos and Alexa apps and you can find yourself in a loop where the speaker will not work. While I worked through the initial setup with minimum pain, my trouble came when I wanted to move the Sonos One from one room to another. With any other Sonos speaker, this is easy. Unplug in one room, plug in another, and change the room name. Quick and easy. Not so with the One. Notwithstanding following every step that Sonos suggests when moving the speaker, I could not get the Alexa app to recognize ("discover") the Sonos One with its new name. Hi guys. New to smart home tech...so please bear with me...!! I currently have the Sonos Playbar in my bedroom and a Sonos One in my lounge; and often Alexa doesnt hear me clearly if i'm in the adjacent room (open plan). Is there anyway to boost her microphone, perhaps? OR...If I was to purchase another Sonos One; would Alexa be unified for both the devices? i.e. If I want to play something/ask her to control the lights, will both Alexas answer? And if not, will the device that does answer be the one that plays the song/controls the lighting? And will that be on both the Sonos One speakers...? I've been looking into Amazon's own Alexa systems to see if i could just have an Alexa device in the adjoining room so that she can hear me...and subsequently play/action my requests for the Sonos One and Smart Lights..? This would save me 180 quid; but from what I've read, is this indeed restrictive? Any ideas guys? Cheers.

Just setup my Sonos 1, in its own room separate from my Play 5 and sub. Plays music fine. No Problem. Sonos skill in Alexa already setup, Alexa sees Sonos One. I can control S One through Echo Dot. As well as my other speakers. When I attempt to setup Voice Services on Sonos One all I get is a loop. I touch Voice Services in the Sonos app on my iPad, the "Control Sonos with your voice" box pops up, hit the "Learn More" bar, goes to "Help and Tips" page, "Control Sonos with Amazon Alexa", touch link "Go to "Set up voice control on your Sonos One" to learn more.", tap that link, goes to a page in "Help and Tips", tells me to set up sonos 1 and to go to More (arrow) Voice Services and follow the prompts. Tap the Set it up now bar and....it just starts the same process over again. I guess I'll try and uninstall/reinstall the Alexa skill, see what happens.

I have had my Sonos system for some time and love it. I have been looking forward to the Alexa integration and Sonos Ones although I was hopeful that a full integration with Apple Music would be there from the start. I have a couple of Sonos Ones which I added to my system as surround sounds and they sound great. However, I would really like the following: 1. Ability to disable the Alexa chime as it is unnecessary. 2. Ability to change the wake up word as it keeps thinking it hears Alexa on every programme we are watching. 3. Ability to control Alexa voice volume separately as it’s just too loud. Looking forward to future developments.

I've got a Sonos One and have Spotify set up as my default service. I'd like to be able to say "Alexa, add this song to my library" or "Alexa, add this song to playlist My Jams". I'd also like to use Alexa to play Spotify's artist, album, or song radio, so, "Alexa, play Adele artist radio." Right now it can play an artist's songs, but not their radio station.

Can Amazon Echo connect and control a stereo paired set of Play:1’s

I have renamed my play 3 from Kitchen to Pub. If I use Alexa (Dot or Play ONE) and ask it to play music in the Pub it won't play. If I rename it to a standard name, garage, kitchen, patio, whatever it works just fine.

Hey, I have just been gifted my 4th Sonos device today, a Play One. I am very, very, very disappointed at Sonos. This advert https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poR1jLLoObA is just misleading, as it conveys the idea that "you can stream *YOUR* music" using Alexa. As I now know, this feature is not included. A respectable company like Sonos should know better. Please do something to remove this misleading advert. This is ridiculous.

hello all :) I have a problem on my echo dots if I ask alexa to turn volume louder or lower alexa turns the volume on the dot not the sonos ?

I just got Sonos One and already had an account with Amazon Music Unlimited. Whenever I try to stream different songs to different rooms, Sonos One Alexa says it can only stream to one room. What gives?

I tried setting groups in Echo app and I only get music to play out of all Sonos speakers at same time regardless of what I tell Alexa. I read here that the Alexa app does not currently recognize groups. So I want to go back into Sonos app and create a few groups. I don't see how to do that. I only see setting up a pair of speakers (like stereo) and that is not what I need to do. I want to group my Play 3 with my Play 1 and also pair my soundbar with my Play3 to have different rooms. As I understand I can then instruct Alexa to play "group name" (set up in sonos) and it will recognize the ones set up on Sonos

I can not select Spotify as my music source in Alexa app, in fact Spotify it not an option anywhere. I have the latest software and firmware installed. Any help is appreciated.

I have a playbar, sub, and two sonos ones acting as surrounds in my living room. The devices that I have in my living room would be considered mine. However, I also have two sonos ones in each of my kids bedrooms. Each of these belong to my kids and they need to be able to have their Alexa Profile assigned to their sonos one for many different reasons. When I setup these speakers for my kids it automatically signs in under my Amazon Alexa profile and it will not allow me to change it. So now my kids are unable to ask Alexa to play their own playlists through Spotify because it is linked to my account. They also don't have access to any of the features that comes with having your own personal profile in Alexa. Unfortunately, Amazon only allows you to have two members in your Alexa household. This currently allows my wife and I to switch between our profiles and play our personalized playlists and access our Alexa profiles. You would think that Sonos would allow you to sign into a differ

Is there a way to have music play on Sonos and the Amazon Echo at the same time?

I noticed a card on my Alexa home screen last night notifying me that the play 5 in my kitchen had become available as an Alexa device. I have already synced my Sonos and Alexa accounts and have been using them together for a few days, but this notification seemed to indicate that I should be able to speak directly to the play 5 as if it were an echo. I haven't been able to actually do this though and was also confused as to why that was the only play 5 in my house that was made available for this function. I thought maybe I was going crazy but there is a link there to set up Alexa settings for the speaker which are the same settings available to edit for all of my echo devices. There is also a link advising me to visit the Sonos site for a full list of commands available for this speaker, but I couldn't find anything there. I dropped a screenshot here to hopefully avoid all the know-it-alls who will be just so excited to try to explain to me that the play5's mic isn't far-field and so

Just doesn't seem to work. Alexa says "flash briefing" (which is an idiotic name) is starting and then nothing happens...I've checked all the proper boxes the Alexa App...even checked and unchecked different news sources...nothing. Silence. Anyone have any thoughts?

LOVE the progress made with Alexa and Spotify.... name a song and a room and it plays! It came at the cost of losing access to my Alexa Skills “ The language you selected does not match your Amazon account settings. As a result, Alexa skills are not available. To get the best Alexa experience, please choose English (Canada) by selecting continue“. A blue bar that says CONTINUE is below the above statement. When I click on continue, it just takes me to a list of my devices which include fire sticks and my Sonos components. Amazon support claims its a Sonos issue, I disagree.

Can we envision to control Philips Hue lights with Sonos one in the near future?

I currently have two Play 1's and Playbar and Sub. If I were to purchase an echo dot to go along with my system. Would all audio play through my Sonos system or only music? From what I have been reading it sounds like only music services will play through the Sonos. If I were to ask Alexa something like, "What is the weather going to be like today?" Would the response play over my Sonos speakers or the Echo Dot speaker?

Hi everyone, I've bought a sonos one 2 months ago and set it up with Alexa. Everything was working fine till a week ago. I bought 2 play 5 and adding them to the sonos skill. For that I had to reinstall my wifi. So I basically deleted everything out of Sonos and did a hard reset on the one as well and then added each speaker to the new wifi. Set it back up with Alexa. Long story short: the one is located in the bedroom. Play 5's in family room. Asking Alexa to play in family room works like a charm. However asking Alexa on the Sonos to do something seems impossible. If I look into the Alexa app I see Bedroom in skills, in settings I see bedroom (and below it says online) and then bedroom sonos. Before I only had 1 (which was bedroom with online below) and that worked. If I say play in bedroom, mmm to do that enable skill. When I say play music in bedroom sonos it does it. Changing the name to bedroom or anything else will cause Alexa on Sonos to say I'm having trouble co

I have purchased the new Play 1 with built in Alex. I can stream music from the radio, but it will not allow me to access selected music from Amazon Prime /Music. Is there an issue or do I need to use another on line music provider?

Hello all, I have fully bought into the Alexa controlled smart home... I have two WeMo smart plugs, four Echo devices, five Hue lights, and six Sonos speakers. I was very excited to upgrade the Echo in my kitchen, my most used one, with a new Sonos One. However, I had trouble getting Alexa on the Sonos One to respond to my commands, and the Echo in the nearby living room would almost always answer. After reading about connectivity issues, I spent significant time reloading apps, rediscovering devices, relinking services, and restarting my extensive home network (I'm a software engineer in the networking industry), all to no avail. Sonos One Alexa would still not respond to me. However, I did discover a solution that was quite basic... and frustrating.... I have to pause speaking after saying "Alexa" and wait for the Sonos wake up tone before continuing with my command.
