Amazon Alexa and Sonos

I have two microphone-enabled sonos-one speakers in my sonos system. Instructions to Alexa work through only one of the two speakers. The microphone lamp is glowing on both speakers. How do I troubleshoot and fix this please?

Hi I’ve two play 1’s, if I bought a new play 1 with Alexa would it still pair with one of my originals to make a stereo pair working with the Alexa voice command one? cheers in advance for your replies D

Having jumped on the Sonos bandwagon with a Sonos Beam, then a Sub, I was very keen to replace a Bose+Echo combination we had in the kitchen with the Roam and preordered it.When it arrived I eagerly set it up (relatively easily) and it seemed to solve an outstanding issue I had with my Beam with playing Spotify on the same network.However several months on Alexa Profiles still aren’t supported (“I can’t do this right now...”) and Alexa is rather selective in hearing, mostly who Alexa listens to. My commands are correctly interpreted most of the time, whereas others are not and require three attempts.I see sbg89 heard from a Sonos Engineer that updates are coming[1], are there any updates on this? It doesn’t appear so from the thread.  I have tried delinking and relinking the Sonos skill in Alexa, and reconfiguring from the Sonos S2 app as well. Many, many times... [1]: 

Hi, I’ve been having trouble recently getting Alexa to start playing spotify. I have to ask twice to get it to work, same wording and everything. I’ve removed and re-added spotify account on my sonos app. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the sonos app from the Alexa app. Not sure what else to do.

Hello, I recently purchased a Sonos Move mainly to connect it to my outside patio Beam for better outdoor listening experience.  I currently have 2 beams, 1 arc, a lamp and 2 Play:1.  When using the Move connected to my outside Patio Beam the Move constantly loses connection causing the audio to stop for short stints (2-5 seconds) about every 20-30 seconds.  I had never experience connection loss and only occurs when the Move is outside which is the furthest location from my Wifi router.  I read about the Sonos Boost so I added it to my system; however, it appears the Move is not made to not connect to the Boost as that is the only device not showing up on the Sonos App under “About My System” which lists all the devices as WM:0 (meaning they are under the Boost).  I did remove my home wifi from the sonos app.   Hoping someone can answer if is not possible to add/use the Move along with the Boost as in that case, I do not need the Boost and can return it.

Alexa responds to a 'play music command' but it does not actually play anything. The Sonos One works fine from the app. Alexa also will tell you the weather etc... just fine. When music is playing if you ask Alexa to turn off music it says 'I can only do that when music is playing' . Alexa connects to tunein and my amazon account but doesn't end up playing anything even though it says it is.

When using Alexa with Apple Music I’m randomly experiencing songs in either albums or playlists either getting entirely skipped or stopping partway through the track. If I look in the iOS app I see an “Unable to play ‘[track name]’ - it is encoded using an unsupported digital rights management system” error being displayed. This never happens if I initiate the same music through the Sonos app or through the iOS Music app (via AirPlay). It plays completely reliable then. I hate using an app to initiate music—Alexa is much easier, but it’s become unreliable enough that I’m starting to not trust it. Sometimes I can make the behavior go away for a few weeks or a couple months by powering down and then restarting my entire Sonos system, my WiFi router, and my cable mobile. But it’s infuriating to have to do this, and the problem eventually starts again. Does anyone have any insight here? 

It used to happen within a second, now it takes about 6seconds for the dim to undim, if that makes sense…..On my Sonos Roam it takes less than a second after the ‘Alexa, turn it up’ (etc) command to go back to the audio source. Help!

I have been following all the steps to add a voice assistance (alexa) to my system but when I am supposed to be redirected to the alexa app, I’m redirected to safari, I then put my correct credentials from Amazon and then get redirected back to the Sonos app without linking my alexa account to Sonos.I previously had alexa working in all my speakers perfectly, I recently purchased a Sonos roam, when I tried to set up alexa it didn’t work, so I followed a troubleshooting process where I removed alexa from all my speakers and I signed out of all my Amazon apps… it didn’t work when I tried to set up alexa again to all my devises and now I don’t  have voice assistant in any of my speakers.  Please help! I have tried all my different devises where I have the Sonos app to set up alexa. 

Hello,I have a Beam and two One’s coming to use in a surround sound setup. I was hoping to use Google Assistant on one of the One’s, as it is much better at answering general questions in my experience. Can anyone tell me if this is possible? Thanks!Mike

I have an Arc in my ‘living room’ connect to a LG C1 tv. I ask Alexa to turn off ‘living room’ (lights were on and tv was off) and lights turn off but the tv turns on! Here’s what happens:Ask Alexa to turn off tv when tv is off- will turn on tv (how do I fix this?!?!?)Ask Alexa to turn off tv when tv is on- works correctly and turns tv offAsk Alexa to turn on tv when tv is off - works correctly as tv is turned onAsk Alexa to turn on tv when tv is on- works correctly, tv stays on When I unplug the arc and use my dot, and ask Alexa to turn off ‘living room’ now tv is not affected anymore. So it seems the Arc is doing this… any help?!?

There is a difference between the way the BBC Skill works on a Sonos One speaker and an Echo Dot. Playing the current radio program works fine and the same on each speaker.On a Dot, you can ask Alexa to play a specific program which might be from a previous day. If you stop the programme you can then resume the programme from where you stopped. In fact, if you use the BBC Sounds app to continue listening when you then resume on the Dot it picks up from where the BBC Sounds app finished. All very neat. The Dot also allows you to fast forward through a programme.On the Sonos One, you can still ask for a specific programme. However, stopping and resuming the programme actually restarts the programme rather than resumes. What’s worse is that the BBC skill announces how much of the programme is left making you think it has resumed. And then fast-forwarding a programme actually restarts it! All the opposite of very neat!I’ve tried the following to sort it out:

Hi All,i have a sonos beam attached to SONY KDL-43W808C.Initially through alexa I could control the tv by up/down the volume and turning on/off the tv.Lately I noticed that the on / off command no longer works, while up / down volume does.Can anyone help me? thanks.

Is this limitation and Amazon thing or a Sonos thing? Is this an active development item? I was considering purchasing the new sound bar but after learning this I don’t think I will.    The whole point of Alexa is hands free voice assist. So turning off/on the microphone is not a valid alternative.    Please let us know the status of this. Thank you. 

I have a Beam with two Sonos One surrounds, and it's my understanding that the mics on the Sonos Ones are by default OFF, and that the Beam is the only one with mic input for Alexa. Is there a way to turn on the mics on the Ones? I ask because I'm usually closer to the Ones than the Beam when using Alexa, and Alexa on the Beam usually has trouble hearing me (I usually have to yell). Thanks!

Can the ROAM be connected to an Echo Dot via Bluetooth as to allow my to use the ROAM as an external speaker for the Dot?  If not, can I can change the Voice Assistant wake work on the Roam; I have a daughter named Alexa.  Thank you and be well….

Tried factory reset Tried signing out of accounts both Alexa /Sonos and removing from speakersalexa will say radio 2 or radio x or Spotify but then will not play anything.would appreciate some further advice

While looking around at the new features in the latest Alexa app update on my phone. I noticed that all of my Echo devices including my Fire cube’ now has a prefered speaker option under the ‘connected devices’ section in my Android phones Alexa settings. By default this is set to ‘built-in speaker’ but you now have the option to select ‘change’. Once the ‘change’ option is selected you can choose to uncheck the ‘built-in speaker’ option. Then select ‘WIFI Speakers/Use my preferred speaker option’. Now you will be able to select any Alexa enabled Sonos Speaker not only to play music but to also respond for the Fire Cube/Echo device’s voice  commands instead of the ‘built-in speaker’.If you can see the Sonos Speakers but can’t select them as they are greyed out. Then you will need to simply make sure both the Echo device/Fire cube & Sonos speaker you intend to use are in the same group e.g. ‘Living Room’ group. If the group does not yet exsit, then you will need to create

Which Sonos speaker that has alexa built in? and is it available outside UK?

The last few days when I ask Alexa on SONOS to play Spotify all I get is Alexa responding “here is Spotify” and complete silence. This is happening on all my SONOS Alexa enabled speakers. I have disabled and enabled the Spotify skill and the Alexa app and I am still getting the same results.

HelloI have read other conversations on the topic but they are all quite old and I would like to have an update on this issue. I bought my Sonos One, one week ago and I’m very disappointed with the quality of the microphone, I thought I was buying one of the best smart speakers on the market but it doesn’t look like this one is it. Using the voice control is so annoying that I would have done better buying a normal speaker instead. Can someone from Sonos help out with this issue or if someone from the community knows how to fix it, I would appreciate your help. Thanks​​​​​​​Luigi

I always use Alexa to set the volume on my Sonos system (Beam, Sub and 2xOne SL) I usually ask her to confirm the volume once set, but now she is reporting it incorrectly. So if the volume was set to 1 initially and I ask Alexa to set volume to 3 then ask “Alexa, what is the volume for living room?” She will advise that volume is 1, even though it’s set to 3 as she is now louder.Steps I’ve taken to fix:Disable and enable the Sonos skill in the Amazon Alexa App. Removed the Alexa voice service in the Sonos app and added it again too and powered off the Sonos beam. All to no availHowever, what I did notice was Alexa would confirm the correct volume level after enabling the Sonos Skill in the Alexa App or removing and adding the Alexa voice service in the Sonos app, it was only when I asked Alexa to increase the volume and asked her to confirm the volume for Living Room (Sonos Beam name) she would say it was still 1 even after I’d visually checked the volume

Sonos One/Move integration with Alexa appears to not support the AudioPlayer interface, at least not fully. The Alexa skill, "My Media for Alexa", uses this API to stream music, however, when playing a list of songs, Sonos plays only the first one in loop. Asking Alexa to play next song works, so it seems it is the play from one to another that does not work correctly. I contact Sonos Web support and basically the answer was that Sonos does not support 3rd party Alexa skills. This is well and good but for example Amazon echo support this skill fully. So it would be great that Sonos is looking to fix that as "My Media for Alexa” skill is the only one works fully by using a local music library (the Plex skill is very buggy in comparison). So please Sonos, look into that

Using Alexa on my Sonos Arc to play Apple Music or control my Fire TV stopped working about a week ago. Regarding the former, it turned out to be a server issue that Sonos fixed. But the latter never came back. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Alexa on the sound bar, disconnected and reconnected in TV and Video settings in the Alexa app, unplugged my TV and Soundbar and then plugged them back in. It did all work last week before the break down. And I can control my TV if I connect it to a different (amazon) Alexa device. But when I connect the TV to the Arc on the Alexa App, it says connected on the app. but when I ask her to do anything with the TV my sound bar tells me to connect a TV in the Alexa app (already done). I called support twice, and they walked me through the same things I had already done then put me on hold and I got disconnected. REALLY frustrating. Anyone else have this issue? Any ideas or advice?
