Amazon Alexa and Sonos

Hi I love the Beam and it works really well. One thing I tried on it was an Alexa Routine that I have which turns all my lights off at night when I say "night". To start with when I tried it on the Beam it didn't work at all and I just got a message back that it's not supported. Then all of a sudden it started working but I still get the message back from the Beam saying that it's not supported. i wondered if this is a bug that needs looking at.

I have an LG TV with a Sonos Beam connected to the HDMI-ARC cable, all CEC commands property enabled. Alexa is Able to turn the TV on and off, adjust/mute volume through the Beam, which I understand are the result of the CEC controls. Here is the problem I’m having - and I’ve seen this discussed in a few other threads - when I have the TV on, and I use an Alexa command to play music, I’m unable to use Alexa commands to switch back to TV audio. In other threads, Sonos support have recommended the Alexa command “switch to TV” to go back to TV audio but Alexa says that’s not supported by my TV. My TV has all of the CEC commands that Sonos recommends in order to get the best experience. Any ideas on how to switch without having to resort to the Sonos app?

Hi Everyone, I recently purchased the Beam play bar, which I connected to Sonos through my LG TV (model 47LW5600) but can't get Alexa voice commands to be recognized. I used the HDMI cable provided with Beam and connected Beam to the TV HDMI #1 Arc output. I set up the Beam via Sonos and can stream music to the Beam and can also receive TV audio but Alexa voice activated system commands are ineffective. My LG TV. Simplink and ARC mode are both set to On. I"m a new user to Alexa so perhaps there is a more direct troubleshooting method to test if basic voice commands are recognized to ensure the microphone is receiving a signal from Beam. I'd greatly appreciate any thoughts on what would help resolve issue. Thanks! Vince

I have just received two Sonos One speakers. I set them up in the Sonos iOS app and then in the Amazon Alexa app. All seemed to work well. I created a group in Alexa in order to play the same music on both speakers. When I request Alexa to play music on group "Sonos" (the name of the group I set up), only one speaker plays. If I use the Sonos app to group the two speakers, the music plays on both as expected. I would think I could tell Alexa to "Play music" on any single speaker and it would play on that speaker. If I tell Alexa to "Play music on Sonos" it would play on both the speakers within that group. Is this a known issue?

Just installed the latest update, maybe a few months work, and Alexa has stopped working. The mic light is white but she doesn’t respond or pause playing when you make a request. Tried removing the Sonos skill from the Alexa app & re-adding with no success. Please help?

Hi, I've just setup an Alexa-group with my different Sonos speakers, Kitchen, Livingroom and Dining room. I've named the Alexa group "All speakers", and set all the Sonos Speakers as preferred speakers. This works fine as I can play the Spotify music on all the speakers by saying: "Alexa, play music on all speakers". But I still cannot change the volume on all the speakers at the same time. When saying "Alexa, raise the volume on all speakers", it only raises the volume on one of them. I can raise the volume by telling Alexa to do that room by room. But that is not fast enough. I always need to pick up my phone and open the Sonos App in order to change the volume on all speakers at the same time, which kind of takes the edge off using Alexa as the controlling device for my Sonos Speakers. I know that it has been a problem to change the volume on multiple sonos speakers previously through Alexa, but I'm wondering if that is possible now with the new Alexa grouping? In that case

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere but I am new to the idea of on-line communities so am a 'learner driver' and couldn't find an answer to my problem by searching... I have an Amazon Echo Dot and a Sonos Play 1 speaker. My Echo Dot is linked with the Sonos speaker with the Sonos skill on Alexa. I have opened a subscription to Amazon Unlimited Music on my Echo Dot only - single device subscription. I can stream Amazon Unlimited Music (Playlists, tracks, albums etc) to my Echo Dot, playing through its own speaker / through a Bluetooth connected speaker / through a cable connected speaker. I can stream my Amazon on-line 'My Music Library' (ie music which I have purchased from Amazon) to all of these AND to my Sonos speaker. I can't stream any Amazon Unlimited Music to my Sonos speaker, even though I have a subscription service. I cannot understand why I can play this music service on any speaker other than the Sonos..! I have raised this with Amazon customer service

I am using the google mesh WiFi with a Sonos boost. Alexa is enabled. When I ask Alexa to discover devices she does not find any.

I have one of my Sonos One speakers not working properly with Alexa commands. It responds ok when I say “Alexa” but does not respond to all commands. It used to work fine, but now it doesn’t. Example - I will ask Alexa to play top hits on pandora and it will fine, but when I say “Alexa STOP or PAUSE” Alexa beeps continues to play. I can only stop or pause if I go into the sonos apps on my IOS device. I have tried to disable and delete devise and reset and reinstall, but same thing happens. Any advice? I have other Sonos One speakers that are working fine, just having issue with this one.

Alexa MRM has been a thing for around a year now, and I'm aware that as things stand at present you're unable to group Sonos + Alexa devices together but I'm also aware that the API's now exist to make this happen. I'm wondering if there is any update now that Amazon are freely posting things like this to the public domain - https://developer.amazon.com/blogs/alexa/post/a9acaabd-d5a0-4fdf-b74a-c20cfe4d4ef9/deliver-whole-home-audio-with-alexa-multi-room-music-and-device-targeting. You would have to presume that Sonos are either: A: Working on this and it's in their roadmap B: Purposefully not working on this As a customer of both businesses, and with rooms in my home where I just can't justify buying a Sonos One for small spaces (like spare bedrooms for example) I'm very keen to know if this is ever likely to be possible in the coming months. I already have 2 x Sonos One and a Sonos Beam and they work together beautifully. It would be brilliant if we could just get this

I have several sonos speakers throughout my house. Before the update I was able to group my speakers in my Sonos app (example: TV room) and tell Alexa to play music in TV and it would play on all the speakers that are grouped with TV room. Now when I say play music on TV room it only plays on the one speaker. How do I get Alexa to play on multiple speakers with one command?

Hi, I have two Play 1 speakers which I control with an Echo dot. The speakers are called 'Conservatory' and 'Everywhere' and on the Sonos app I have grouped the two speakers into a 'room'. This allows me to say 'Alexa Play Music Everywhere'. Recently I have found frequently the room (group) loses its setting (two to three times day at least). Sometimes it can be playing music fine then when you ask Alexa to play a different song the grouping is lost. It is probably worth adding that one of the speakers (Conservatory) uses a Wifi access point (with the same SSID). The Sonos speakers are set to automatically update. The speakers have only recently started de-grouping in the last few weeks, is anyone else having this issue or have I set it up wrong? Any help appreciated! Gruss

So, ive looked around on the forum but havent found an answer to this question. hoping someone can help. I have a Beam/2x ONE set up in my living room, and for the most part Alexa works like a dream. However, when I change to a different Alexa skill (example, playing spotify), I cant work out how to get Alexa to change back to TV sound using a command. I am connected via the optical cable, and therefore understand I cant control my TV using commands. I am hoping that I can simply use a command to change back to the TV sound channel though. Can anyone help?

My new Sonos Beam is connected to my TCL TV with a HDMI Arc. I've then installed Amazon Alexa on my beam. If my TV is turned on, and I say : 1. "Alexa, turn off TV", she responds with "OK" and IT WORKS 2. "Alexa, turn on TV", she responds with "OK" and IT WORKS 3. If I wait 2-3 minutes with my TV turned off, and then tries to turn it back on with Alexa, she responds "OK" but nothing happens. I then have to turn the TV on manually. She responds perfectly with any other commands I give her, regarding Spotify etc. But there seems to be some kind of problem between Sonos beam/Alexa and my TCL TV. Does anyone know about this problem, and a possible solution? Greetings, Alexander

Hey, I purchased my Sonos One today and have been going through the set up. I was having a lot of issues connecting it to my spotify as it was saying everything was linked but when I would ask Alexa to play something it would not recognise anything. I think I've fixed that issue but now it does recognise when I ask it to play a song, it even says playing 'hello from adele' (for example) but then no music plays? Can someone advise me on what to do please.

I’ve cancelled a couple order for Sono One’s on the basis of Apple Music only being available on Amazon Echos. I do want to get some ones, but I’m wondering a couple of things - 1) Have Sonos said support is planned, and 2) what other differences are there between devices? I always assumed if a product supported Alexa is was effectively the same functionality as any Amazon device. Obviously that’s not the case, so what else might the Sonos be able to do, even if Alexa can.

Hi, I recently bought a Sonos One to upgrade the sound quality in my living room. It replaces an Amazon Echo (1st Gen), which now sits in one of the bedrooms. I was obviously disappointed to see that most Alexa skills (the ones involving sound) do not work on Sonos One. I'm looking for a work around until an update is released. I have another issue. I also use Alexa to control my smart home devices (mostly lightbulbs). I have become quite familiar with the procedure needed to add an use devices on Alexa. I also use groups, and this is where my question comes from. I noticed that Alexa sees Sonos One as a "Smart Home" device of unknown type. The Alexa app sees my other Amazon speakers as "Alexa enabled devices" when creating groups, where as Sonos One is seen as just another device called "Living room". Is this normal? I am sort of happy to accept that I can't use Drop In, but creating Groups is a really important feature when you have a few Alexa and smart home devices

So Alexa can now play Apple Music but....when I ask her to play X on Apple Music on "Sonos Device" it says not supported. Apple music works fine on the echo dots. Another short fall? Seriously Alexa can't play apple music on my Sonos?

Alexa will respond but won’t play music on my sonos one. It stopped working a few days ago and I’ve tried resetting it but no sucess. Anyone else have this issue and find a solution?

Can’t find the option anywhere in Sonos App. Need to disable Alexa.

Is there any planned update to the system to allow Alexa to default to Apple Music on Sonos speakers? I was able to do it on my echo dots, but my Sonos One and Beam are left out in the cold. Apple music is my default music provider.

Ducking seems to be fixed now. I have grouped my echo and Sonos devices in the Alexa app and ducking seems to only affect the Sonos device that is associated with the echo that processes the command.

So as of now Alexa now supports Apple Music. It works with my Echo Dot. Will Sonos be supporting voice services with Apple Music now as well? I know the official launch date is 12/17 so maybe I am a day early, however it is working on my Echo...Please Advise! Steve

Am I the only one that hates the idea of Alexa on my Sonos? I just want my music to play on my Sonos. I don’t need some device listening to me. Music. That’s all I want.

If not, can I return mine? Purchased in december. I have a daughter named Alexi soooooo, this isn't going to work. I had wrongly assumed Sonos One with Alexa would have the same functionality of other Alexa products. I love my other Sonos devices but this one is pretty much useless to me if I can't change the wake word.
