Voice control and smart home

This question has been asked for more than 3 years now and surprisingly Sonos doesnt have a proper answer. What is going on. Do you have a development team or not ?

After going around in circles and chasing my tale for an answer I finally figured out the solution to my particular issue.  When I asked Alexa to turn on/off the Tv, the response was always, " Tv does not support that".  Long story short, opened Alexa app on my tablet, found my Tv ("Sony Bravia") and Alexa suggested different comands to try, for example. "Alexa turn on/off (LIVING ROOM TV").  Alexa mute (LIVING ROOM TV")  It turns out just saying turn on tv, turn off tv is confusing to Alexa as it needs to know what you labeled your Tv, for example.  Living room Tv, Kitchen Tv, Bedroom Tv and so on.  Once I told Alexa were the tv was assigned she executed the command and made me a sane person again.  Hope this helps.P.S. Hi i’ve just connected my Move to google assistant. When i ask google to play something it accepts the command and repeats it back (like ‘ok playing XXXX from spotify’) but then it says something like ‘can’t play because sonos and assistant are not linked to same spotify account’). So then i have reset all my spotify accounts so that sonos and google assistant link to the same spotify account, but it still gives same error message. I fully de-authorised them and re-authorised spotify, removed and re-added google assistant, and tried again - but still same error message. Any ideas?

Hi everyone. I have been struggling with my Sonos One (Gen2) which was delivered yesterday. I have got set up GA somewhat satisfactorily now so it will play Spotify and do some other stuff, but it doesn’t seem to understand simple things like “skip”, “next”, “pause”, “stop”. It will play tracks and change volume, but not most of the basic listed here with Spotify: https://support.sonos.com/s/article/3490?language=en_US Any idea what the issue could be? Thanks!

I’ve seen a few older topic’s saying Sonos is currently not doing anything. But perhaps over time things do change. I was curious if there are any plans that somebody from Sonos or in the community knows of to have native integration between Sonos and Philips Hue lights?I currently see there are third party apps who offer it, but am a bit hesitant to allow third party apps access to something like this. With Philips Hue and Sonos popularity it would be great if both could do something like this. And make me feel more at ease if it came from the actual producers of the hardware then a third party.

I'm pretty sure I have the Beam connected to the HDMI ARC port and I am still unable to turn the TV on or off using voice commands.

Is it possible to change the word from alexa to wake up the move?

I just purchased a sonos beam and i’m setting it up. I have it configured with alexa and it plays by voice control with no issue. When trying to play a station from the amazon alexa app, it fails. Sometimes the beam says “i’m having trouble playing music,” and other times the app says “this play queue has timed out.” I have uninstalled and reinstalled the alexa app to see if that helped but no dice. The app does not present the same error when playing to other devices in the house Has anyone experienced this issue? I’m curious if this is supposed to work from the alexa app because I would love to be able to have the music play on the beam and my echo dots simultaneously throughout the house   

I have a very specific question.  I just spent twenty minutes on the phone with Sonos support, and I was rather disappointed with their understanding of what their systems can do . . .  I have a Soundbar, Sub, and two Play 1’s for my Living Room 5.1 system.  I have slowly started to integrate my Alexa system with Sonos.  If I talk to Alexa right now, I have no problem commanding Alexa to play music in my living room from my Alexa Echo Show 8 through Sonos.  This works great.   Now, I want to “play music everywhere,” meaning I want to play music in the other rooms that have Alexa echos or dots by creating groups AND the Sonos system . . . The problem is, I have found NO WAY to do this.  I can EITHER command Alexa to “play everywhere,” (which plays through all of my Alexa components,) OR I can command Alexa to play in the Living Room which plays through the Sonos system in the Living Room.   The weird thing is if I command to “play everywhere,” the Alexa Echo Show 8 (which is the control

I have a Beam + Sub + 2 Surround speakers (Sonos Ones). My TV (with its Beam) is installed in a lift cabinet. When the TV is off, the TV and the Beam are lowered deep inside that cabinet. Since the voice assistant defaults to using the Beam’s microphone and speaker, it becomes difficult if not impossible to use Alexa when the TV is off, buried in my lift cabinet. Having two Sonos Ones sitting there, each capable of providing Voice Assistant function but disabled by default is quite frustrating.Is there a way, in a surround configuration, to select the microphone and speaker that the Voice Assistant uses rather than defaulting to the Beam?

Hi,  I have searched the community but not found quite the same issue. But similar problems with alexa and music stopping had me following the advice on resets, the general troubleshooting tips etc. The help from UKmedia.  I've been through all that and cannot fix this. What happens is this.  I have Amazon music which will play fine for a while when controlled by Alexa but will always at some point stop and freeze. The alexa app will show the song as having stopped with a large negative time left and the only way to unfreeze is to jump tracks in the alexa app.  When playing from Sonos app this never happens. So it makes my voice control pointless as I always need to have my phone handy.  Any help on this would be really appreciated as I've tried every kind of reset, etc and can't get rid of it.  Amazon tech line don't have anything other than reset to offer.  Thanks

I have Google Assistant Set up on 3 speakers. 2 of the 3 play a ding after I say “Ok, Google”. The other doesn’t. Surely there is somewhere I can control this. But where? I’ve looked all over the google home and google assistant and Sonos App.

Hi there,I currently have a Play:1 and am thinking of getting a Beam to be used with my Vizio TV, but I just discovered my TV doesn’t have an HDMI-ARC port. From what I understand, I could still set up the Beam through my TV with the included adapter but I wouldn’t be able to use Alexa to control the TV. That would be okay with me, however, does that also mean that Alexa wouldn’t work at all through the Beam? For example, if I set up the Beam to be on the same network as my Play:1 and my TV is off, could I still activate Alexa on the Beam through voice commands and have her play music from Spotify?Any clarification on this topic would be helpful and please just point me to another thread if someone has already asked about it! Thanks!Kyle 

I have had the Sonos Beam for around a year now and been using it via ARC to an old Samsung TV. In addition to this I have 3 Sonos One around the house, and a Sub used together with the BeamThe Beam works perfectly via ARC for TV sound, but I have an issue with the Google Assistant. I am able to turn OFF the TV via google voice commands, but when trying to turn it ON nothing happens (the Beam light blinks for a while and then stops).Strange thing is that if I issue the turn ON command to any of the Sonos One speakers around the house, it works and the TV turns ON!Just got a new LG TV (65NANO956) and was hoping the issue would disappear, but same thing happens. Sonos One speakers can turn on the TV, but the beam does nothing (all other commands like “turn off”, works).System is setup via SonosNet, and the Beam is the access point.Any suggestions to what might be happening here, as the TV evidently does support turning on through the Google Sonos integration as seen with the One speakers

I have 3 Sonos speakers (one beam, two Ones) with Google Assistant enabled in all of them. Each of them has a name (Living, Dining, Kitchen) and I have made sure that under the Google Assistant settings, ‘Default music speaker’ each one of them has been chosen, respectively. When I say “OK, Google, Broadcast <message>” I get the response “looks like there aren’t any other speakers connected on your home network so I can’t broadcast your message.” When I try the same from the Google Assistant app or the Google Home app on my iPhone, it just searches the web for that phrase. When I try the same from the Google app (so, not the Assistant, not the Home, just a third app, the Google app) it works! I have removed the voice service from all of them, delete the Google Home app and re-installed, re-set the home, but still the same. Any advice?

When ever I ask to play music on the Arc via Google Assistant I get the response "I cannot do that here, but you can ask me to play it on one of your other devices."Out of several Sonos speakers that are GA enabled this is the only giving me this issue.I have removed and added GA many times.  I have done a complete reset on the Arc at least 3 times.The amount of issues with GA and Sonos speakers ever since going to S2 is getting beyond ridiculous now.  I'm just frustrated with dealing with these issues. When I get one fixed, soon there is another bug. Any ideas what to try next?

I found a 2 year old thread where the Sonos people said they were “working on this”.  I guess they must work pretty slow.  Anyway here’s the old thread:https://en.community.sonos.com/amazon-alexa-and-sonos-229102/alexa-voice-volume-too-loud-6798465Maybe a new thread will get them to actually do something? What the heck is up with Alexa on the Sonos in general and the Sonos Beam in particular?  So I’m listening to TV.  Everything is fine.  I say “Alexa what time is it?” and she SHOUTS “ITS FREEKIN 10 ‘ CLOCK!” at the top of her lungs causing the dogs to start barking.OMG!  I can’t use Alexa on the Beam if she can’t learn to use her indoor voice.  How did this thing even get to market like this?  Have any Sonos engineering people ever used Alexa on a real Amazon Echo device?  She doesn’t scare little children and cause plates to fall out of the cupboard.  She sounds normal.  And if she’s too loud, you can turn her down.  Music and Alexa are always at the same volume.  Everything works fi

I had to implement a second Sonos system due to adding a Five and Arc (S2 only) to existing Sonos S1-only speakers.When setting the speakers up in Alexa one can only choose a single system.It would be very useful to be able to include more than 1 system. Sonos could do it by either a) allowing selection of more than 1 system in the existing Alexa skill, or 2) adding a second skill (Logitech does this for its Harmony remotes).

While watching TV our Alexa enabled Sonos sound bar periodically responds to tv dialogue interfering with and muting the program. How can I stop this from occurring

A few weeks ago, Google made YouTube Playlists work on Google Assistant devices. Hi all, struggling with a new Move speaker using google assistant. We’ve got a Sonos one which works perfectly, and a new move that I’m struggling with the voice control.  I’ve got to really shout at it to make it do anything other than tell me the time, I’ve got a clock for that!   Have I missed a setting for the microphone sensitivity?   Tried both on Alexa, but can’t get either speaker to respond to voice commands to play music.  It says it’s playing, but doesn’t.  This seems to be more an amazon issue looking at various forums. Any advice appreciated.
