Hi, I am in the market for a simple soundbar. After selling my 5.1 home theater system I want to go as simple as possible by just having a soundbar for my TV and the devices connected to the television. I have a Samsung F6470 which is roughly 4 years old. To that I have a PS4 connected for Blu-Rays and Games and a cable box for swiss television both via HDMI and my television can directly access streaming services like Netflix. The television has a optical output which I would use for the connection to the Sonos Playbar/Playbase. Now my questions: If I solely use the Playbar/Playbase as the only speaker in my living room can I run into any trouble for this simple stereo setup? Does a 5.1 HDMI Tosslink passthrough to the Soundbar/Soundbase have any benefit over the TV just passing a simple stereo signal over the optical out? What would happen if I add a Sub to the setup? I've got two Play5 as a stereo setup in my living room. Now I like to extend my system with a SUB and the new Soundbar. Unfortunately Play5 is not supported to setup a 5.1 system but this is another topic... Both the Play5 as a stereo setup could connect with the SUB and also the Soundbar could be extended with a SUB. Is it also possible to use the SUB together with the Playbar when watching a movie and using the same SUB with my pair of Play5 when listening music?

I have a shure wireless microphone. I want to play it through a wireless speaker. I do not have any amp yet or other peripherals. Can I and what do I need to be able to play a microphone through your speakers? Thanks. Also, what is the size of room spec for the 2 larger speakers? 15 by 20? etc. If you buy one of the largest ones, how big of a room could it cover? My family room is 20 by 30? Do I need 2 speakers? or more? thanks.

My boyfriend spends 3-4 days a week at my house and has a Sonos Controller App installed in his phone to control my Sonos Play 1 and Play 5 systems. He got a Play 1 and Play 3 for Christmas and is having issues connecting to his own systems when he returns home from my house. Is there something he needs to do when he leaves my house or arrives home st his house to have the Sonos Controller App automatically switch to his system? It's really frustrating that it doesn't just automatically work. He tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Sonos Controller App this evening but it didn't seem to work. Any advice for two Sonos novices?

Hi, this topic and question has been asked before and is a wanted request for the users or potential users of a Sonos connect. We want to have the possibility to trigger an external amplifier connected to the Sonos connect from standby to ON as well as back to standby then not playingi music so we dont have to run the amp 24/7. Is this function now in the plans for future development and to be released in the near future? Software solution or new hardware (new connect). A new hardware with a 12v trigger seem to be a simple 2015 upgrade? :)

Do the speakers in new Sonos products have a break in period? As with say guitar amplifier speakers sound warmer after being broken in? I just purchased 2 Play 5's over Christmas and was thinking about letting them play while I was at work? Is there any benefit to doing this? Thanks.

Hi, I'm planning on buying a Connect so I can use it with my current turntable setup. It occurred me that I can get rid of my Samsung HW-K430 (soundbar + subwoofer) if I connect my TV (Samsung KS8000) via optical input. Anything I should be aware of? Will this work or should I be looking for something else? Thanks!

I have a router and 3 extenders across my house, so my wifi is excellent all over the house and yard.  If I hard use a Bridge/Boost or hardwire 1 speaker in, is that hardwired component the only one that pushes out Sonosnet?  If so, I would think my own wifi network if probably stronger / more reliable than the one source for Sonosnet.  Toughts?   BTW, I plan on adding over 5 speakers, and a home theater setup.  Will I be forced to use Sonosnet?  

Why wouldnt you connect your cable/satellite/optik tv to the playbar via the optical link, rather than via your TV as the instructions seem to imply. If your TV doesn't have optical, wouldn't this connection method work? I'm Considering the purchase of a playbar, and even having read acres of tech stuff, forums, threads, reviews and comments and I can't find any reference to this way of connecting. Apologies if this is a dumb question....

Hi Guys, I am looking at purchasing a Sony X85 (also known as X8500 in some regions) 4K UHD TV and wondered if this panel will pass-through (via other HDMI ports - e.g. Blu-ray, Playstation, Xbox etc.) Dolby Digital 5.1 audio signal via the optical output port to SONOS Playbar. I didn't really want to invest in a HDMI/TOSLINK Switcher box and Smart-Remote for a new TV. I was hoping this 2016 panel would just plug and play! I called Sony support and they advised it would pass-through. Anyone got this setup to verify? Thanks

Hello and good afternoon Sonos community, I am an AV designer that has been tasked to outfit a semi high-profile residence of a state Governor with a "wireless sound system" This system is to reside in a historical building and as such will not allow for much in the way of modifications let alone opening the walls up to run new speaker wiring. We wouldn't be able to use attic or basements as pathways either as everything is pretty inaccessible. The rooms do have plenty of AC power outlets that would accommodate the Sonos setup fairly well though. There are five rooms/areas that each need sound reproduction and they are all within close range of each other (less than a 50' diameter from the main transmitter) so wireless range should be acceptable. My biggest concern however is that this system will need to incorporate a wireless mic for public speaking events. Amazon Fire TV has 4 settings for audio and I'm wondering which would be the best to choose. My audio is HDMI through a Vizio M65-D0 monitor which supports Dolby Digital Plus. The four options are: Dolby Digital Plus Automatic (If your HDMI device does not support Dolby Digital, you will receive stereo.) Assuming everything is hard-wired Cat5: if I daisy chain a MacBook Pro to a Sub to a Play:5 to another Play:5 to ultimately a router (Apple AirPort Express), will the MacBook Pro effectively be on the LAN (IP address, network performance)? I have terrible interference in my apartment so Sonos speakers are always dropping off the network and songs frequently drop out. I want to play music uncompressed and wonder if the best quality for that is the connect the MBP directly to the router or if I will get the same level of network performance by connecting the MBP directly into the Sub. Another reason for the question is that the MBP is next to the Sub and the router is about 50 feet away (as the cable runs).

Hello all. Brand new to Sonos so forgive the ignorance. So far just the play bar and the sub (primarily because we are moving into a shoebox apartment in NY). Which brings me to the question: Can my wife and I independently use our iPhones to listen to TV audio through headphones via the app? I've been going crazy trying to find a solution for listening to the TV via earbuds as my wife and I both hate on ear headphones. Yes, I know bluetooth aptx units, but at least right now bluetooth has a latency of some 40ms, which will drive me insane. I'm a filmmaker and notice any off sync immediately. RF headphones like the Sennheiser 120s have extremely low latency, but they're on ear phones (too claustrophobic). The RF earbuds all seem to be stethoscope style (with a weighted control knob pulling them down). There's a set of truly inear wifi buds from KOSS (the Stiva), but they're $500 and KOSS has always been crap and they claim a 3 hour battery, but it's likely more like half that.

I'm looking to add my B&W 805 speakers to my Sonos system. Currently I have a sonos connect and a independent Rotel power amp which I used to use to power the speakers from my old non sonos system. #1) Do I need the Rotel power amp to power my BW speakers or can I go from Sonos Connect direct to my B&W speakers. Hi Why can't I find a track by an artist that is in a compilation album using the search? Specific example I have the Paloma Faith track I 'Can't Rely on You' with the artist shown as a contributing artist in the ID3 tag on the Now 87 album. ( I am not using iTunes at all!) Indeed when playing the album the artist name appears on all the controllers (CR100, android and PC versions). But when I search the music library for the artist name it only shows a different album of the same artist but not the individual track in the compilation album.

Hi Everyone I'm considering buying a Sonos PLAY:5. Since this speaker is a year or two old , I wanted to know what's the life cycle of a sonos product , when might another play speaker be released?. For how long does the company continue churning out software updates for their products? for example an android phone will only get software updates for a year or two and then nothing. Thanks:)

I'm sure this question has been asked many times before. I truly appreciate the help and patience community members show, but I do find it difficult to maneuver in "search". I recently added a Playbar to a room with 2X Play 1's and Sub. I'm loving the TV experience,but the Music was was MUCH more enjoyable without the Playbar. Is there an easy way to uncouple the Playbar from the room? Thanks!

I think I understand that it is possible to add individual shared folders rather than only a single folder and all of is sub folders. I share the top level iTunes folder because it contains iTunes' library files. (I use sonos in lose conjunction with iTunes, so it is essential that I have access to its playlist file.) The problem, however, is that I do not wish sonos to index all of the subfolders. (For instance, "music" subfolders but not "audiobook" folder. ) So what I'm wondering is: is there some way to index only certain files as well as certain folders? Or some other way to index only certain subfolders of a folder AS WELL AS only certain FILES within it?
