Google Assistant & Sonos

I have changed between Alexa and Google Assistant on my Ones about 4 times. All of the “fixes” from all the forums aren't working. I have tried EVERYTHING. Alexa just stops when it’s time to play the news and Google Assistant says “I don't understand”. Is there and update coming from Sonos to fix this anytime soon?

Hey folks, I wanted to give you a heads up about a change that affects Google Assistant on Sonos. Google has announced that it’s moving users from Google Assistant over to Gemini and because of this shift, Android phones will only support Gemini going forward. This change takes effect today, 4 September 2026. This means that the Google Assistant app is no longer available for voice set up with the Sonos app.  If you still want to use Google Assistant with your Sonos system, you'll need to use an iOS device like an iPhone or iPad. If you’re looking for other ways to control your Sonos system by voice, Sonos Voice Control (SVC) is available (and works with Philips Hue). You can find out more info about Sonos Voice Control at sonos.com/sonos-voice-control.

Google Assistant timers on Beam are created and count down correctly but make no completion sound. Google Assistant alarms on the same Beam sound normally. Issue persists after removing and re-adding Google Assistant. Is there a bug? It was working fine until a few weeks ago, I haven’t touched any settings.

This thread is aimed at all of us whom has a Sonos Roam product (and probably a few other Sonos products as well). This thread aims to solve the following issues:Sonos refuses to add google assistant as a voice assitant (getting stuck during onboarding) Google Assitant commands can only Stop and Say what it is playing, but not Resume / change it (timers still work) Sonos Roam only plays if directly adressed, otherwise responds with “I can not do this on this device”.I have already solved these issues, the step by step guide is posted bellow as a answer. The solution i found to these problems are as follows:Issue #1:This requierd me to do a full unlinking of the product to my google account,Remove assistant from Sonos app, as it tends to get added but not work Press the Cogwheel (Settings) in the top right Press General Settings Select Voice Assistants then remove Google Assistant from your device Remove the connection from the Google Home app Open the Google Home app Click on your p

Hi,Just bringing up the ongoing lack of Google Assistant (and now Gemini) support on Sonos in Poland. It’s no longer just a minor issue—it’s a real dealbreaker. I don’t even need Polish language support; English would be completely fine.Because of this regional block, my smart home integration is basically useless. I love how Sonos sounds, but I’m seriously considering replacing my entire home audio architecture with a brand where voice assistants actually work. Are there any updates on this? What do you recommend? RegardsBart

I bought Sonos equipment because it was Google compatible.I have a daughter with muscular issues and giving voice commands is essential for various appliances around the home…Now what? You want me to purchase another set of Google products because guys can't sort our your differences? Struth!Get over it already! Give us the functionality that the products were sold with!

I have had Google Assistant installed on my Sonos One speaks for years now. But for no reason whatso ever it stopped working (just another Sonos feature).  Every time I said “Hey Google”, the speaker would take many seconds to reply then told me “there has been a glitch, try again in a few seconds” but it just wouldn’t work. I followed the instructions to uninstall the feature from the speaker and then reinstall - but it just will not work. I don’t know if it is because the Google Assist app has evolved leaving Sonos behind or what but it get blocked every time when, in the Sonos app I add assistant → Add Google Assistant → Open Google Assistant app…. and then it just hangs. I’ve checked my Google Assistant app but I’m pretty sure it has been updated since the last time I installed the speakers.  So I just can not get past this point.  I use the assistant a lot as I have smart devices all over the house.  If I can’t get this to work, I will have to get rid of the Sonos speakers and buy

Hello,I installed Google assistant on my Beam Gen 2. When Spotify is playing music, I can ask google assistant to move to another song. But if Spotify is not playing and I ask to start it or just ‘play music”, google assistant answers he is not able to do this. Can someone help?ThanksCoco

Google Assistant went through a rocky period over the last year while Google was attempting a rather confusing re-organization of how their automation routines work. They managed to break most existing automation routines, and at times it seemed like nothing was working properly. This not only affected Sonos speakers supporting Google Assistant, but Sonos saw more impact than native Google speakers. I pretty much gave up on them and moved most of my automations to Alexa. But Google finally seems to have gotten their act together, and automation routines are working again, including those which failed on Sonos previously. The earlier flaw that automation routines can’t speak any custom text on Sonos remains, but it’s worth trying Google automation routines again if it was the more recent failures that led to abandoning Google Assistant.

As it stands Sonos hasn't been programmed to accept Gemini. Here's why. The Sonos app is design to communicate with the Google assistant app. Gemini is a separate app. The sonos app attempts to open the Google assistant app only. If you've switched to Gemini, your Sonos devices won't accept your new AI assistant.

Hello Sonos Support,I am experiencing a persistent issue with a Sonos One where onboard voice assistants no longer treat the speaker as the local playback device. The speaker can play music when it is explicitly named, for example:“Play [music/radio] on Living Room”However, when speaking directly to the Sonos One and saying:“Play [music/radio]”the command does not play locally unless I include the speaker name. This previously worked normally. I could speak to the Sonos One and simply say “play [music/radio]” and it would play on that same speaker. The issue affects both Google Assistant and Alexa, so it does not appear to be isolated to one assistant provider.Current behaviour:The Sonos One responds to voice commands. Smart-home commands work, including lights and thermostat control. Music/radio playback works if I explicitly name the speaker. Music/radio playback does not resolve to the local Sonos One when I simply say “play [music/radio]”. Google Home can see the Sonos speaker as a li

With Android phones moving to Gemini, this change interferes with using Google Assistant on Sonos devices. If Google Assistant is not already set up on Sonos, the setup process now redirects to Gemini, making it impossible to connect GA to Sonos. For those who have GA already activated, enabling Gemini on the phone causes GA on Sonos to respond with a connection issue, rendering it unusable. This creates a difficult choice for users either stop using GA on Sonos or avoid switching to Gemini on their phones. Given that GA is likely to be fully replaced by Gemini in the near future, how does Sonos plan to address this transition and ensure continued voice assistant functionality on its devices?

Honest not sure if this is a Sonos issue or Google issue or both.  After adding Sonos with Voice Match for my account, my partner goes into add Voice Match but it says there are no devices available. She can see the speakers in our Home but they are not appearing as eligible for voice match. She does however see a bunch of old versions of these speakers. does she need to add Sonos speakers herself as works with Google? Do I need to somehow share the speakers as available for voice match?

There is a service notice about this posted now by Sonos now under Support, and it has been discussed in the “Update on the problems with Google automation routines” thread, but it deserves its own topic.A couple of days ago Sonos speakers using Google Assistant stopped responding to any media playback commands from Google, including Play, Stop, Set volume etc., although basic Google Assistant commands like “Time?” and “Weather?” were still working. Only Google was affected - Alexa, Home Assistant and other services could still perform those functions through the Sonos api. So either Google has their own api, or Google was being specifically blocked.Sonos suggests removing and re-adding Google Assistant from the speakers as the solution, but if you expect that to be less than straightforward, you’re not wrong. My Sonos app on Android successfully removed Google Assistant, but as others have been reporting for 5 months now, it could not re-add Google Assistant, getting stuck in a “No Co

I am using a stereo pair of Era 100 speakers and wanted to ask if Sonos would consider enabling native Chromecast and Gemini support on its speakers.Native Chromecast support would allow users to cast audio directly from any app that supports casting, without relying on individual app integrations or the Sonos app to initiate playback. This aligns closely with how many users already consume music, podcasts, radio, and streaming content across Android and Google TV ecosystems.Gemini integration would further position Sonos speakers as everyday smart speakers, extending their role beyond music to voice assistance and home interactions. This would increase long-term reliance on Sonos hardware rather than limiting usage primarily to music playback. From a practical and adoption point of view, this could: Lower the learning curve for new users Improve interoperability in mixed Android, Google TV, and Sonos households Remove a common purchase hesitation where casting is expected as a base

Out of the blue last month my Sonos one stopped playing music on YouTube music. I’ve tried unlinking and de authorising and nothing seems to work I swapped to Alexa and had no issues other than Alexa doesn’t let you use YouTube music and since that’s the service I use. effectively I’m left with a paperweight as it stands

I have a Sonos One. At the end of January Google Assistant stopped being able to play tracks on Spotify (it would work with other commands). There was at least one other forum post about a similar issue and there was even a Status post at https://status.sonos.com/ for the issue. I opened a support case and it was recommended that I watch the status post. However, a couple of weeks ago the status post disappeared (I can no longer see it, but the link was https://status.sonos.com/incidents/5g9b95ggcymg) and yet it still doesn’t work. I have tried many variations on removing and resetting connections and still nothing.Surely I am not the only one who still has this issue?! Thanks!

Hello,I own a Sonos Beam. Over the past few days I’ve noticed that Google Assistant responds to “Hey Google”, but it ignores voice commands and nothing happens. I’ve tried several commands, for example:“Hey Google… lower the volume”,“… turn off the TV”,“… play song X”. None of the commands are executed. I therefore tried removing Google Assistant and adding it again. Everything works fine until I’m redirected to login.ws.sonos.com. When I click “OK”, I’m sent to a page that doesn’t exist (404). Since I can’t proceed in the process, I’m currently unable to add Google Assistant back to my Sonos device. How should I proceed? Could you please fix the link so I can complete the connection? I’ve attached screenshots showing what I see step by step before I’m redirected to the non-existent page

Grazie mille

Google Assistant no longer controls the volume on my Sonos One. Typical dialog:Q: OK Google. What’s the volume?A: The volume is set at 75%Q: OK Google, set volume 50%A: Got it(no change)Q: OK Google. What’s the volume?A: The volume is set at 75%Q: OK Google. Lower the volume.A: OKQ: OK Google. What’s the volume?A: The volume is set at 75%

For years i have used my Google Assistant automation routine “Hey Google, Local news” to play my local new radio station. I use a routine because every once in a while Google stops recognizing  the station name and needs a different name to work. I just change the routine so I can keep on saying “Local news” as usual. But a new bug cropped up today. Google Assistant running on my Google Home speakers still plays the correct station from the Play Radio Station command in the routine, but Sonos instead tries to play a Spotify playlist instead of a radio station. Something is newly being lost in translation between Google and Sonos.I have fixed it for the moment by changing the routine command to say specifically to play the station from Tune In.

Until recently this was working just fine.  So if I said ‘Hey google, turn on the lights’, it would ONLY turn on the lights in the same room as the Sonos speaker who heard the request. But now it turns on ALL the lights in the house!!! If I say ‘Hey Google, turn on lounge lights’ this does work - but room awareness was working before!I’ve looked at other posts but nothing suggested works for me.  Is this a Sonos or Google issue? BackgroundI moved broadband suppliers last week, and their hub wouldn't let me use the same wifi password, which of course resulted in the Sonos devices going offline.  Using the app I updated new network on one of my devices (which worked fine) but mistakenly didn't click do this for other devices so they were removed from my sonos setup.  For each of them I had to factory reset & re-add to the network - which means re-adding Google assistant support again. But afterwards all working ok. Checked / Tried so far….Confirmed each Sonos device has a room name a

I am trying to follow the instructions here to add a Google Nest Mini in a room which has an old Play 1 for voice control.I can’t for the life of me add it in the Sonos app. Basically I get to the stage where I go into my Sonos app, General Settings add voice assistant. One of the devices on my system is an Arc, which has the ability to install / have Google Assistant. So when I select Settings->General Settigns->Voice Assistants->Add a voice assistant->Google Assistant it comes up with a prompt ‘select a room to add Google Assistant’ and presents me with the room with the Arc in.There is no option to add my Nest Mini. I must be missing something but for the life of my I’ve got no idea what I need to do.
