Sonos doesn't accept Gemini

As it stands Sonos hasn't been programmed to accept Gemini. Here's why. The Sonos app is design to communicate with the Google assistant app. Gemini is a separate app. The sonos app attempts to open the Google assistant app only. If you've switched to Gemini, your Sonos devices won't accept your new AI assistant.

This conversation about Google Assistant/Google Gemini  being reinstated or upgraded for Sonos is IMO pointless. As of now “it ain’t gonna happen”. There’s still a patent infringement case pending before the courts between Google and Sonos.

I don’t think this is as relevant as people seem to think it is.  From Google’s point of view, I don’t think Google can refuse to license to Sonos, or offer a different price, than what they are offering to other companies.  Perhaps they could perhaps make a claim that working with Sonos would hurt the brand image or something like that, but they can’t refuse to work with Sonos as a means of controlling/preventing any litigation against them.

From Sonos point of view, refusing to work with Google isn’t going to have an impact on the patent infringement case.  Any choice to work with Google or not would be soley about whether working with Google or not.  Sonos chose not to implement GA on their latest products because (reportedly) Sonos did not like the increase in hardware requirements (and probably licensing costs).

That said, the patent infringelment is about Sonos working with Google to implement GA on Sonos devices, and letting Google employeessee their code in the process.  I don’t think Sonos would do that again.

In another thread an OP suggested that Sonos take a knee to Google and move on. News Flash…neither party is going to yield unconditionally when there’s upwards of $32 million on the table. I mean…get real people 🤷

At this point, I think Sonos probably just wants to recoup it’s losses and maybe get a PR boost.   I doubt Google cares that much about 32 million, and is solely interested in the PR impact.

Here’s an AI synopsis on the case. If AI turns your stomach there’s a link (below it) to another site that may be your “antacid” of choice.

I hope no one  who wants Gemini on Sonos speakers is against AI.

Google live of selling your data to others, they are already in your home with Android Auto mail and others, they don't needs to know what you listening to. They tried to steal from Sonos, and when they were told off they stopped supporting Google Assistant on Sonos.

I never been an Apple person, but Apple live off selling hardware, and they do not sell your data. I'm actually considering for the first time ever if Google  assistant out of my Sonos is actually a good way to get back my "rights" and an eye-opener.

And consider who own my smarthome.

Google just forced my Fitbit into their very badly programmed and not tested Health as well, and there is no way I'm gonna be sending my data to them in the future for such crappy software in return.

I rember reading on this community Google’s demands where too much for Sonos to comply to on the newer devices - something like too hard to program. I’ve never read that “when they were told off they stopped supporting Google Assistant on Sonos”.
