hey friends, I'm setting up a 5.1 in my living room with a Playbar as the primary in the front of the room with the TV. for my rear lefts and rights, I was going to get Play3s, but have heard that it's overkill, and better value to do Play1s since the rear speakers are more for ambient nose. would love to hear everybody's thoughts.

Hi all, Would anyone be able to help me. So I have just bought a 4K BluRay Player (Sony UBP-X800 4K Ultra HD) This only has HDMI Video out and HDMI Audio out. The TV I have is - LG 43UJ630V 43 inch 4K Ultra HD HDR Would I be able to plug the HDMI audio out of the BluRay player into the HDMI ARC connection on the TV then pass the sound through the TV to the Optical out of the TV into my Playbar? If that wont work is there anything I can do ? Thanks all 🙂

After literally years of wanting - I've finally pulled the trigger on a Sonos setup. I'm going BTTW here and just getting the entire thing in one go. I'm replacing a Bose CineMate 1SR with the wireless sub. My initiative was because the sub constantly cuts out. I've moved the sub/router etc. For a $1000 system it's just not acceptable and I dealt with it for too long. Maybe I'll give it to my dad. I went with a play bar, sub and two Play One's as well as an HDMI splitter to get true 5.1 from my Samsung TV. I'm beyond excited to get some 5.1 and turn John Wick up realllllly loud. Now I just need to get grandma to take the baby for the night! Anyone have any tips? I'm a Smartthings user as well - any fun automations you use?

I recently purchased a Playbar, Sub & 2x Play 1's to create a 5.1 surround sound in my living room. Well Sonos BOOM !! It was easy to setup, installing each item 1 at a time starting with the Playbar, then the Sub & then each of the Play 1's. Following the instructions was a doddle & the sound is out of this world. I was a sonos fan before having bought a Connect Amp for 4 ceiling speakers in my kitchen along with a Play 3 which was in the living room & is now in the bedroom, now I'm a mega fan 😃

Hi all, I'm a recent Sonos convert and have been extremely happy so far, adding a Play 5, Play 1, and now a Playbar + Sub. I've unfortunately had a horrific experience in trying to get the Playbar setup. My setup is as follows - Sony KDL-55W900A television, TiVo Roamio that utilizes over the air digital signals, Xbox One. The Roamio goes to the Xbox One, then the Xbox One to my television via HTML, then optical out to the Playbar. This television is one that specifically has Dolby Digital 5.1 pass through. I've spent 15+ hours on this and constantly scouring forums and looking for settings, but continue to have audio sync issues. The audio delay setting in the software does not solve this, only makes it worse. I've so far identified that it depends on the source - and sometimes different even in that source, and even do different variations of sync. For example, I'm watching Seinfeld here on television and it's completely unwatchable - the audio clearly does not

Will Sonos come out with an upgraded Playbar that supports multiple HDMI inputs or does away with optical playback through TV?

Hi, I purchased a Sony X900E a couple of months ago and I'm in the market for a surround sound system. Ideally I'd prefer an easy-to-setup, wireless setup. Through my research I've come across the Sonos 5.1 package and it seems great. I've also come across a bunch of posts talking about how the PLAYBAR has issues with the TV that seem related to Dolby Digital Plus. I'll be using the TV primarily for streaming, mostly through apps that are on the TV. I may at some point get cable hooked up via HDMI. Does anyone have the X900E and Sonos 5.1 package combination working without any issues? (the posts were mostly several months old so I'm hoping something has changed.) Is there anything specific that needs to be done to get it to work?

I just fitted out my place with 9 connect:AMPs a few pairs of play1, play3, play5, a couple of subs .etc all works well, I am mostly really happy. Although I could be happier with the playbar set up. I am using a connect:AMP to power my rears (through Playbar IP address) added a sub and a playbay. I have a 75" sony and the playbar just isnt long enough to really separate out the LCR function of the playbar. Here is my question, does SONOS or will SONOS (any dates, details or reasons why not) support 7.1 or 9.2/ 9.2? at this stage 5.1 seems very low end for a high end, well designed eco system such as SONOS. I would LOVE to add a pair of play3 to my playbar as the L/R or even use 3x play3 as the LCR. Any thoughts, workarounds or updates from SONOS on getting more than the very basic old school 5.1 ? What would the ideal set-up be for a living room with two sofa’s. Our TV is in the corner of the room facing into the middle. We have a safa flat against each wall opposite. We already have a play bar above the TV and a sub in the corner of the room. How many Play:1 units would I need? It feels like if I had one at either far end of the sofa’s, they would be too far apart. Is it possible to use 3?

Have installed a new Samsung MU9000 TV that has the Samsung One Connect hub that everything plugs into. Used the Optical Toshlink connection between my Playbar and the One Connect. Setup everything according to the guidelines on Sonos. While it does work the volume output is low. I have to put the volume at max in the app just to get an almost acceptable leve. Have searched various forums and not heard this issue tied to anything with this generation of smart hub. I have verified that the Samsung One Connect is configured for optical cable out, and is transmitting Dolby Digital. Any ideas?

I have a projection TV at the back of the room with a Soundbar at the front (below the screen). I just picked up a AppleTV 4K and found out it doesn't have an optical audio out that would allow me to connect it to the Soundbar. Any ideas on how to connect?

I am using the Sonos Playbar as the speaker for my Samsung TV. I also use it to play music from Pandora. When I use it for Pandora, I cannot figure out how to switch back to the TV speaker using the app on my Iphone. I have to remove Pandora from my Music Services to get back to the TV. Any ideas?.

After updating to 8.2.2 my Playbar now emits a constant static hiss after I switch off my TV. Before the update it would automatically go to sleep after a few minutes and stop emitting any noise, the only way I can solve this is to switch it off from the mains and then back on again. Is anyone else experiencing this problem after updating to 8.2.2?

I have one Play 5 (gen 2) and a new Playbar -- the former for music, the latter for TV -- both in my living room. No SUB. (As a quick aside -- since I've seen the question elsewhere -- the Play:5 alone sounds WAY better than the Playbar alone for music). I wish to buy a second Play 5 to create a stereo pair in my living room (for music). This stereo pair will also be grouped with speakers in other rooms (for example, I have a Play 3 in my kitchen). I figure I'll take advantage of the setup to also create a surround experience with the pair of Play 5s. A couple simple questions: 1) Can I expect the Play:5's s to deliver a better (or at least equal) surround experience than a pair of Play 1's? For example, will the surround setup be able to take advantage of the Play 5's better base for music and action sequences? Or will the Play 5 satellites just act like "little" speakers. 2) Are there any disadvantages or inconveniences associated with using the Play:5s for both

I am an installer for a Sonos retailer, we've sold a customer a play bar 5.1 package with the sub and two play 1s, however the room is huge and the sub can only be placed on either end of the seating area, so it ends up sounding unbalanced. The customer would like to add another Sonos sub to the system to balance out the bass with a sub on both ends. Normally this is easy in a typical surround scenario, but after agreeing with the customer, I did a quick google and seem to have discovered that 5.2 surround is not supported! Are you guys crazy??? This is like saying "no" to an effortless SUB sale, AND making this customer rethink his decision to go with Sonos for surround. He also has a Sonos connect, with a big amplifier and zone volume controller connected to speakers throughout the house, but the connect (non-amp) did not pair with the sub (I tried this before setting up the play bar) so the only solution I could come up with was to have a wireless sub kit and non-Sonos (KEF is

Hello, I did the initial setup for my SONOS playbar after moving to a new house (Had to reconfigure the whole app due to a new WIFI), and during the setup the TV sound was not recognized. My wife wanted to listen to music from the phone so I continued without completing the TV setup, thinking it would be easy to add later (But apparently am wrong). Now music can play from my phone, but not the TV. How do you go back to complete the TV setup? Also, the TV remote has been configured, but still no sound from SONOs when TV is on. I've submitted a diagnostics # 8452175.

Looking for a wall mount for my Play:1s. Was going to go with the alphason bc of their ability to conceal the cord with out it sticking out. Unfortunately they do not ship to the US. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with wall mounts that have an option to conceal the power cord in the wall. Thanks

While watching TV or even listening to music, the 2 play ones, and sub will cut out for about 20 seconds. The play bar will continue to play. Then the surround kicks back in. Happens about once and hour. The rest of the house keeps its audio, so it's isolated to the surround. TV is pushing Dolby through the optical connection and HDMI. Anybody???

Geek Squad coming in an hour and would love to hear from the Sonos Community's collective big brains first to make sure I bought the correct items! Here's the background: The house I purchased was incredibly "wired" in the 80s with every room having speakers and its own volume control. I know everything was working a year ago (heard it work during the open house) but after the old owners moved out I just have a bunch of wires hanging in a media closet and I don't know what wire goes to what. Current configuration: I have 8 new Polk in-ceiling speakers (4 different rooms - attached to existing wires) I still have wires hanging from disconnected outdoor speakers (would like outdoor music) Note: I have no other stereo equipment in the house as I've been relying on a Bose docking station and an iPod for years. No sound from DVD player I'm concerned to my tv with optical cable and cannot get sound from my blueray player. BR player has no optical out. I have HDMI and audio cables to tv. Suggestions?

Sonos community, I hope you can help :) I am trying to control the volume through my cable remote and not the app. I have two Elipson Planet L speakers wired into my Connect Amp and the Connect Amp is connected to the TV through an optical converter. The setup is currently as follows: 1) Cable box to TV with HDMI cable 2) TV to audio converter (coaxial/optical to R/L audio converter) with optical cable (to get the best sound and avoid the lip sync delays with a 3.5mm audio jack) 3) coaxial/optical to R/L audio converter to connect amp with 3.5mm audio to R/L audio cable into the connect amp I tried connecting an optical cable from the TV to the cable box and then using R/L audio cables directly to the connect amp and this did not work. Hi, I have a Sonos base and sub connected to my TV. I also have a connect amp for two ceiling speakers but there is a delay with the sound. I was told there is a way to join them to have 5.1 surround.

Bought the playbase but TV has no optical input to connect to the playbase - can this be converted to support the HDMI connection?

I just got a new Remote control from AT&T that I use to control the TV (Samsung 55"). My current Remote works fine with the SONOs Playbar volume. Question: to get the volume control on the SONoS with the new remote; do I have to setup the playBar from scratch or is there an easier way?
