Hi guys hoping for some help, not an audiophile by any stretch so go easy on me, laymans terms please. Got and oldy but goody set up in the flat, projector (Infocus IN1144) VGA to laptop (Toshiba satellite C850) with AUX from laptop to old speaker, which just kicked the bucket( not so much of a goody)... have a few play1s in other rooms so thought I'd get a beam and have some fun. Unfortunately I read HDMI connection not HDMI arc (wtf the difference is, though arc was worse!) and now having allsorts of issues. Currently, Beam won't detect laptop when HDMI directly in (assuming not HDMI arc compatable) but Beam will find projector when HDMI'd in. But, with beam on HDMI for sound you can't get image from laptop over VGA... suggestions please. I was going to pick up 2 to 1 HDMI adapter for the back of the project for both Beam and Laptop to attach but this would just be trial and error. Hi folks I have a problem that I am having trouble diagnosing. I would appreciate any help I can get. ## Equipment / Source TV - Panasonic TH-55FZ950U Speaker - Beam Connection - HDMI ARC Source - CH9 HD, mainly drama type shows. Other HD ## Problem - sound is distant, quiet, muddy with DD5.1 - audio has a large soundstage, clear, etc with stereo (forced SPDIF setting on TV) - audio is also great on non-HD channels including 9 - problem appears to be a DD5.1 issue ## Settings - tried playing with night and voice modes but o real material change - I prefer loudness off, and to be honest the setting makes the issue worse Is there anything I can do here to take advantage of 5.1 without copping a huge decease in audio quality?

I have a Bose Lifestyle 5 from 2006 in our great room. It is now dead, but wiring is in the wall for front and rear bose lifestyle jewel cube 5.1 speakers. It also powers in ceiling speakers in a bathroom and bose 501 speakers in an exercise room. In our media room I have an existing playbar. What is the best way to set up a new surround sound system in the media room (use existing speaker wire or go totally wireless), and how can I power the ceiling the bose 501 speakers?

I’m new to Sonos and have just got a Beam. I have it connected to my Samsung TV and love the sound. However, I’ve found that when I first turn on the TV and start to watch, I can’t mute the sound using the mute button on the remote. If I turn on, then change the volume first, I can mute without a problem. If I don’t change the volume, the mute doesn’t work. Any ideas?

My playbar is currently sitting on a cabinet below my tv and I can adjust the volume up or down just fine. I finally got my tv mounted and have now mounted my Playbar just below my tv. For whatever reason the volume does not adjust with my DirecTV remote. Any thoughts?

My play 1's arrived today and I am super happy with the sound but disappointed that they don't seem to be very friendly in terms of moving them around. I had hoped to use them to compliment my Playbar + Sub when watching movies, and to utilise one in the kitchen / dining room when entertaining guests. I first set them up to test the 5.1 and I then unplugged the left speaker and set it up in the kitchen whilst I did some work. Both were fine once the setup process was complete. Having set them up I had hoped to be able to easily unplug the play 1 from the kitchen and simply plug it back into the living room and change it's use on the Sonos app and away we go - however it seems you must go through the rigmarole of adding BOTH surrounds all over again, holding the power and volume buttons to initialise and waiting for them to connect as if they were brand new and it was a first time install. I am hopeful that I am missing an obvious trick here and there is an easier way?

Hi all. Since the latest update my Beam has lost its ability to turn my tv on or off. It has been working flawlessly but now I get the response “sorry, lounge tv is not responding.” Has anyone had this issue and managed to solve it?

So I have a home theatre set up with The soundbar, sub & two gen 2 play 5’s. Why does airplay 2 not work when the play 5’s are set as surrounds, similar to the Aux not working when set up this way. I just wish I could have the home theatre grouped and set up, and still control music from AirPlay 2. Surely this can be sorted with an update, no? Just to confirm, it does work when the play 5’s arent in set as surrounds.

I have a beam along with two play 1's as surrounds and when playing music the play 1's are significantly louder than the beam. Is there any way of balancing the volume on the 3 devices to get a more distributed sound?

Hey guys, This isn't normal right? Maybe I screwed up the setup somehow.. I recently brought 2x Play 5 1x Sub 1x Playbar When testing the speakers (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqVCPE8_ntE) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ttYSpt8oiw) Front right plays on playbar Center plays on playbar Front left plays on playbar Rear right plays on playbar + play 5 (although very quiet) Rear left plays on playbar + play 5 (although very quiet) Playing via optical out Surely, this isn't meant to be the case?

This has been happening periodically. If I listen to music on the Sonos, I then lose my connection to the TV sound. I have checked the connection with the cable box to make sure it is connected to the digital—it is. I have checked the TV settings and it is set correct also for the optical. I have unplugged the optical cable and playbar for more than 10 minutes—did not work either. WTH?!? Any other ideas as to why and how to fix? Thanks

What are the room size dimensions that are ideal for Sonos Beam? I have only seen it as described as filling a small to medium room size but no actual dimensions. I can surmise what the ideal dimensions are from the standard bedroom size but has anyone seen anything from sonos with actual recommended dimensions?

At the moment im owning a yamaha ysp 2700 soundbar. Before that i had the playbar but ended up selling it cause it lacked HDMI. Now that the beam is out with hdmi im seriously considering switching back. I think the ysp 2700 is the better soundbar, but sonos is sonos. I have a rather large living room (9m by 6m) and im sitting at 4m from the soundbar. Is the beam capable of throwing sound that far in the room? Thanks 🙂

Hi Support community, my Harmony Ultimate Remote stopped controlling volume on my SONOS soundbar within the last month. Environmentally nothing has changed. Same wi-fi, same tv same tv service, etc. I have disconnected the Harmony hub and reset it, I have done the same for the remote, nothing. I even have one of the Harmony sensors right underneath the soundbar IR (not sure if it is necessary or not but I found it working best this way since I don't always have the remote facing the IR - may be in a different room). Remote controls the TV and the DirecTv box with no problem. What to do?

Hey community. I am wondering if it is possible to set things up in this arrangement in a new build. I have the idea in my mind, but I'm not sure if it actually works. In the living room, I want to set up the TV to be connected to a Playbar, then bond a Sonos Sub to it. Then where things will get funky is that I also want to bond a new Sonos Amp (powering 2 in ceiling speakers which happen to be way behind the TV) to be the surrounds. Effectively a 5.1 channel setup for the TV (as long as the 5.1ch signal is fed through the optical in to the Playbar, which decodes it to the sub and in ceiling surrounds. If this works, the idea is also that whenever I play music to this zone, it will fire up all the speakers; Playbar, Sub, and Amp (in ceiling) at the same time as well. Can a Sonos Amp even just act a part of a zone and not be its own?? Does this work? Has anyone tried something similar with a Connect:Amp, Sub, and Playbar? I recently added a Sonos Beam to my existing Sonos setup. I moved two Sonos Play:1 to create the surround sound group and connected the Sonos Beam via the optical adapter to a Samsung UE40H5303AK TV. The audio/video source is a fourth-generation Apple TV also connected to the Samsung TV via a HDMI 2.0 cable. With the configuration: Apple TV > HDMI > Samsung TV > Optical Adapter/HDMI > Sonos Beam the audio input to the Sonos Beam (verified through status page on the iOS app) is always and only "Stereo". If "Dolby 5.1" is forced on the Apple TV instead of "Best available quality", there's no audio output at all. In this situation I assumed it was a problem of the television that does not have the audio passthrough on the HDMI. So I decided to buy an SPDIF/HDMI splitter (that supports HDMI 2.0, 4K and 3D) in order to separate the audio from the video component before entering the TV. I have tried researching this but have found very little info that wasn't very helpful. I have Playbar, Sub, and two Play 1s in rear. (5.1) I would like to add two Play 3s on either side of my Playbar to widen the origin of sound in front of me. The only way that I see to add speakers is for surround, but these Play 3s would need to play L&R sound. Is 7.1 sound supported by Sonos, or is there a way around this? I wanted to ask someone on here before I go blow $500 only to find out it doesn't work. - Thanks

I have replaced my Samsung TV with a Sony XBR65X900E unit. I have turned off the TV speakers on the Sony and have sound coming out of the Sonos playbar only. The TV remote is not controlling the volume level. The Samsung had no issue with controlling the volume. Is this a Sony design feature/issue or am I missing/misconfigured a setting on the TV.

Hi, I am setting up a new home with a 5.1 setup in the living room. The TV is inside a furniture that has a cabinet underneath, and the cabinet doors are slated for ventilation of electronics. I attached an image of the furniture,I wanted to put the Sub in the cabinet underneath the TV, But the cabinet is only 35 cm hight, so I can't put it standing. I was wondering if I can put the Sonos Sub laying flat inside the a cabinet?

I'm having 2 sonos one in stereo setup. ok-ish for music from laptop but netflix and other videos are complete desaster. They're setup through my wifi, connected to latest macbook pro and the sound is lagging by about 3s which is completely unacceptable. anything I can do?

Greetings. For the last year I have been using BOTH my DirectTV RC73 and my standard LG TV remote (not a Magic remote) to control the volume on my Playbase. It worked perfectly using either one I grabbed. However, my DirecTV remote died yesterday and I had to get a new one. I don't remember what I did originally to make them both work with the Playbase. But they did and it IS possible. Right now, I can only get either one to work, not both. Can anyone with a solution please respond with clear instructions on how I can again use both remotes to control Playbase volume. Please don't respond if you are going to say only one remote can be used at a time, etc. Thank you so very much!!

Has anyone been able to get Netflix in 5.1 audio using the Chromecast and Beam? If so, how? I have HDMI ARC to the Beam. The TV i'm using is Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus compatible. Google Movies streams in 5.1 (for titles with 5.1) - confirmed with About systems report on Sonos app. Tested Netflix with Stranger things (which reportedly has 5.1) and the About System reports that the audio is stereo and no option under Audio and subtitles to change to 5.1. I have just purchased an LG OLED TV model C8. I have connected my Playbar using TV optical out (and I also have Play 3 surrounds and a Sub). Everything is working fine except I can’t control the volume using the TV remote - it’s greyed-out. I can only control the volume using the Sonos app on my iPhone or iPad. This is rather frustrating and inconvenient. Is there any way I can set things so that I can control volume with the TV remote. I was able to do this with my previous TV - a Samsung Smart Tv. Thanks

When are sonos going to bring an update for the Beam soundbar? Sinc issue needs sorting as does dolby digital output.
