Amazon Alexa and Sonos

Alexa has huge volume level granularity issues when controlling Sonos Playbar. So, I've searched everywhere for an answer to my volume issue. I have a Sonos Playbar, two Sonos Play 1 surrounds, and a Sonos Sub. When watching TV I set the volume to a good level and life is good. The Playbar is connected to the TV via optical. When I turn the TV off and use the Alexa voice skill to play music on the same Sonos system, it starts out LOUD. If I set the volume level via "Alexa, volume 2 on the bedroom sonos", it is still pretty darned LOUD. If I set the Volume level to 1 using the Alexa command, it's way too soft. Volume level 5 and above are rock concert sound levels that endanger the sheetrock. If I use the Sonos app, I have plenty of volume granularity and I can set to the perfect level. Is there any way to adjust the HUGE range between what Alexa thinks is Sonos volume level one and Sonos Volume level 2??

Does voice controls with Sonos work in china ?

I have 2 Sonos Ones (as well as a few play:5s). However, Alexa keeps forgetting how to work them. I can use Alexa for the general non-Sonos stuff, but I'll regularly say "Alexa, play" to resumse playback and I'll be told I have to enable the Sonos skill. This skill is enabled. Yesterday I had this problem and disabled the skill, re-enabled it and it worked again for a bit. But today it's lost it again. I've had this before as well. It seems pretty unreliable. I had one Sonos One to start with and ended up just not really using the alexa skill because it seemed easier to just go into my pocket, get my phone out and play or pause it there. But now I have a 2nd one I'd quite like it to actually work as advertised. (I bought the 2nd with the understanding that this is still in its infancy so is likely to improve in time, but I also wanted to expand my Sonos a little anyway so the voice support wasn't a deal breaker.) Is it possible to get this to work consistently?

Can anyone help me in getting Alexa on the sonos one to connect with spotify, I keep getting a message back saying it is off line???? All other aspects of Alexa seem to be working well.

I just set up my Sonos system, the Alexa integration was what made it accessible enough for my family. I noticed today while testing on my in-wall speakers that the radio station we usually listen to via FM sounded pretty bad. Asked Alexa to play the station, started playing via TuneIn on Alexa, but it was missing depth. I tweaked the EQ and loudness, which didn't help much. Then I tried listening to the same radio station via TuneIn in the Sonos app and it sounds great. My guess is that the playback via Alexa is highly compressed or a low bit rate, but frankly I'm not sure. Is there any way to get TuneIn via Alexa to sound as good as TuneIn via Sonos?

Is it just me or is the Sonos One hearing me better? I'm noticing I am barely having to say Alexa more than once now which is such a relief. Is anyone else noticing this with their Ones? I apologize if this has been discussed already.

I have 4 smart TP Link devices which have always worked via sonos Alexa but now when I ask to turn on, change colour etc Sonos Alexa says "sorry, I didn't find front room light". I've checked all apps and the names are correct. I've even reset the sonos one but still no joy. Edit: should add the Echo I have in the bedroom understands and completes any commands I ask of it.

For example whenever I try to ask Alexa to play the radio on my Sonos One, it will always say “Hmm to do that enable your Sonos Skill in the Alexa app, After enabling the skill just say, Alexa discover devices.” After going through and determining that the Alexa app has the Sonos Skill enabled , I’m able to go through the website to play music through Alexa but actually telling it voice commands won’t work pertaining to that , or for any skill of that nature. I have seen a few of these postings but they seem to be older. I was wondering if this is going to get fixed? I don't understand why it would all of the sudden just stop playing music after a few songs or sometimes just after one song. Then if I tell it "Echo, next track" it replies "What do you want to hear". So I tell it again to play a station from Pandora and it works just fine. It may play for the rest of the day, it may stop. Very frustrating. Other times when I tell it the second time to play the same station, it tells me that it is already playing. The Sonos app even reflects the same info but yet there is no music coming from the speakers. All of my speakers are on one group and they all have unique names, even separate from the lights that are in the same rooms so there should be no conflict there.

Hello folks, newb to the community here. I just got a one and everything is set up fine except multiple voices recognition. When I try to add my voice using my iPhone, I never can click the "Begin" phase, the button is always greyed out. It always says I need a recognized device ... is the One, not a recognized echo yet? Can you run a play 5 1st gen directly thru the alexa sonos skill? I have set up the skill it see the speaker but alexa does not recognize it. Just want to play tunein or send bluetooth music from my phone to alexa then to the play 5

I may be duplicating another question here. If so, I apologize. just point me in the right direction Anyway, just got a sonos one. I’m new to the smart home world. Got caseta leutron light switches and they’re working in sonos and in the leutron app. That’s just a little background info. Friend came over a couple days ago and played a song on pandora. Now, when I tell Alexa to play pandora she defaults to the song my friend played. I can get sonos to play my pandora by going in through the app, but obviously, i don’t want to have to use my phone every time I want to play my pandora. And also of course, i’m hoping for much greater voice activated functionality. Tried calling support today but the phone numbers I tried that I got off the net all wanted to sell me something.

So FireTV Cube arrived today and I've been playing with it for awhile. Overall it's a rather amazing product. I'm going to enjoy using it. It changes things quite a bit. I'm trying to look at it from three different perspectives. The first being on how it operates alone, how it operates when your tv is hooked up to a playbar or playbase, and how it may compare to a beam. The setup was pretty set forward. After connecting, it walks you through setting up control of your tv and soundbar. After that, it says you're done. You have to look around a little fit to see how to set up cable control, blue ray, and others. Turning on/off the tv is pretty straightforward. However, it always turns on to your firetv input no matter what input you were on previously. The on/off command is going to work from any Alexa in your home for some reason. I have Sonos with Alexa voice skill working fine for services such as Amazon Music. However, I can't get Alexa to access any of my imported playlists from iTunes (which works fine via the controller without Alexa). I can't get Alexa to play any song from my iTunes library unless that song is also in Amazon Music. Seems like this would be a natural thing to want -- anything I can already play with Sonos I would want to access via the Alexa voice control. Is this a near future feature or a pipe dream? Or is there some Alexa trick I've missed?

Hi all! I have a Playbar installed in the Family Room. I wanted to add an Echo Dot for volume control and to play music through the playbar. My question is, can I give Alexa commands for this without having to say "In the Family Room" every time? It would be great if we could default all commands to be the playbar for this one Echo Dot. "Alexa, set volume 3 in the family room" "Alexa, Play Van Morrison in the living room" It's just a bit long winded. This dot will only ever be to control this one setup. I looked for a way to default things but was unable to find them. Other Info: We currently have just the one Sonos device. We do have other Echo Dots in the house. Any suggestions or tips appreciated.

Since updating my Sonos One to 8.6, I haven’t been able to play certain radio stations in particular the main BBC radio stations Radio 1, 2 3 and 4 , when started from Amazon Alexa, although it will play local BBC radio stations from Alexa. When I request:- Alexa “Play BBC radio 4”, Alexa says “Here’s radio 4 FM” then you here in another voice “The BBC” then it’s just silence. But if I go to my iPad and call up BBC Radio 4 it then plays ok. Can I go back to how it use to work?

Just set up my Sonos One and it will play Amazon Music playlists but it will not recognize my own personal Amazon playlists. Alexa also responds and will play whatever song I ask for from Amazon. I just cannot find my personal playlists anywhere on the sonos app. The playlists are there and work fine on the amazon music app on my iphone. Any ideas on this problem? Thanks.

It seems like the Fire TV Cube was built to perform many similar functions as the Beam in terms of smart voice control (e.g. remote control capabilities). Are the two going to be able to work together?

Why cant we choose a default room in the app to play music on? Its very annoying to have to tell Alaexa what room you want to play in or turn the volume up/down in. Seems like you could have a default room that alexa commands and other rooms are controlled only if the room is called out.

Hi, Is it just me or Alexa is an uterly useless assistant? I have been using my phone's Google Assistant for the past few years and assumed it was amongst the least performing ones since it came after Siri and Alexa. Oh boy was I wrong it seems! I have 9 Sonos systems, 4 of which are Sonos One. I was very excited at the idea of controlling my speakers with my voice. It took many more months for this feature to arrive in Canada, but it finally did. Setting it up has been a puzzling challenge. Critique: - For a start, I can't specify the location of my speakers (address). Every time I try to configure the address and press "save", I get an error message that stated: "We're sorry. We weren't able to update the address associated with this device. Please check your network connectivity and try again later". My network connectivity is fine, Alexa, thank you. Problems encountered so far: 1) Would not recognise my Living Room and play music then randomly did. 2) Says it cannot work in my kitchen even though works fine in Sonos App, and also listed in Alexa App. 3) When I say 'Play (artists) in Living room" it just plays the last song listed on the Songs App. No way at all to select artists via voice command. 4) When asking it to stop etc, have to shout at it. I know its beta but this is unusable and not like a usual Sonos Beta- very poor quality needs pulling and sorting out first. Fault may be with Alexa which I have generally found next to useless, for example very poor at controlling my Nest Thermostat etc. Fortunately the Sonos app itself still works fine and never lets me down. Could it be because we are operating on a Sonos bridge?

I have a Sonos One which was working perfectly with Amazon music (Prime) and Tune In Radio via Alexa until the 8.6 update. Now it will not play Amazon Music. For example, if I say 'Play rock' its says 'No rock music found', but I can use the Android app and chose Amazon music and it works fine - the same command works fine on my Echo Dot. If Is say 'Play Radio 2' it now longer says it is playing it from Tune In, it says 'playing Radio 2' but there is no sound. When I ask for my daily briefing it starts playing the briefing at a lower voulme before it finishes saying the words 'Playing your daily briefing' How can I fix this? thanks
