Amazon Alexa and Sonos

Hello I have 2 sonos beams and a sonos one, all 3 are doung exact same thing. None are shuffling music, when i ask to shuffle songs it plays the same song to start with and doesnt shuffle. Also when i say next it dors nothing, when the song finishes nothing else plays afterwords. I activate shuffle mode by command and it acknowledges this but still nothing. I dont know what to do next. Hi. I currently have a generation one play5 and play1. They are in different rooms but are grouped. I am looking to replace the play1 with an Amazon Alexa enabled generation 2 play 1. Will I still be able to group the two so they play as a pair? Don’t want to buy it and then find out that they cannot work together.

I have been using a number of amazon echos for the past few years. Currently I'm planning a major renovation and want to integrate sonos into the new home setup. I plan to have ceiling speakers in kitchen/diner and living room with a beam and a playbase in another room. My questions are around the integration with Alexa. in order for this to be a success, it needs to work for everyone i n the family, not just me, the techie. If I have ceiling speakers connected to a sonos amp, I need an alexa device to control them. Are there benefits to using a sonos one over an echo dot or echo show? Can I control the volume for the entire room from the sonos one or the echo dot by pressing the physical buttons, or do I have to use voice commands? When I speak to the echo dot, will alexa respond through the echo dot speaker, or the 'room' speakers (sonos+echo)? Thanks!

When I ask Alexa to play music on my Sonos one, it says “Playing Elton John (for example) on Spotify. Sorry that device is offline” but it isn’t...I can play Spotify from the Sonos app but not via Alexa. It’s worked fine up until today and I’ve changed nothing. Any ideas?

have had sonos for 7 years - love the speakers when they work ! now I am trying Amazon music and - yep available in the UK but not Ireland . WHY . Had this problem with ALexa aand now music services . Someone needs to sort this . If I have a subscription I should be able to use my very expensive speakers ...who fault is this ?

I just got three Sonos One's and setup them up. Each one is in a different room and will be controlled independently. I tested out trying to use Alexa to start playing from Spotify. I discovered that you can only have one Sonos One playing from Spotify at any given time. The only option I found to be able to play three independent streams was to start the music from the Sonos App. Is there anyway to use Alexa to start three independent streams? Without that, there really is no point having the Sonos Ones. This feels extremely limited since I can only have one stream on at a time when using Alexa.

Since a few days ago my Alexa will not work on Sonos. So I unlinked my account and now I can't link it back together. I keep getting "Oops! Amazon can not connect to Sonos" I have tried signing out of all Amazon apps/products and my email addresses are both the same. Nothing is working and I'm really starting to get frustrated and mad here. Anyone know what else to do or try?

HI recently an upgrade allowed Alexa groups which meant that I would no longer need to include room name when asking Alexa to play music on my sonos speakers. However am unsure how to do this unless I have an Alexa device in each of my 5 rooms as seems that as I have 3 Alexa devices 2x dots and 1x spot I would be limiting the device to a specific room. Can you help me clarify whether alexa groups feature can work in my situation as not needing to name room would simplify things. Tthanks Russ

It’s great that we can now drop the “Alexa, play in the lounge”, when the instruction is given in the lounge!! But how do you identify which Sonos device is in which room, using the Alexa app, when the device names listed are different to those displayed in the Sonos app??!! My Sonos system has changed over time, with speakers being moved from one room to another as my system has grown. As a result, there is a mismatch between the device names I see in my Sonos app (in Settings->Room, which, incidentally, are also different to what I see listed under Setting->About my Sonos System) and what I see listed when I want to add devices to groups using the Alexa app. How do I resolve this confusion? For example, the Alexa app lists a Sonos device called “Den”. It’s one of my speakers for sure, but I’ve never called any room the “Den” and vaguely recall this being named by a Sonos engineer on a support call. But a device called “den” is nowhere to be found in my Sonos app!,

I'm trying to set up the Alexa Sonos Skill, and keep getting the following message. I've waited and tried multiple times to do the skill, and keep getting the same message over and over. I'm logged into my Sonos account, so it's not an issue with Sonos. For some reason, Amazon isn't letting me connect and set up the Alexa Skill. Any ideas?

Hi all, wonder if this is common or if I'm a lucky one! I ask my Sonos 1 'play radio 1' it replies 'bbc radio 1 from Tune-in' but no sound plays. Same with asking it to play from my Amazon music Library (Prime). It says 'playing X on Amazon music' but no sound plays. If I manually play the same radio or music via the Sonos App it all works fine. In the Alexa app the Sonos skill is present and enabled. I've tried restarting my router and Sonos devices. I've uninstalled the voice controls and re-installed them. There is an echo dot in the house that uses Alexa to play from My Amazon music library and Tune-in radio just fine. Just wondering if the device itself is faulty and I need to return it, any experience to shed some light on it? Cheers.

Hello, I have just purchased a Sonos Beam, which is now on its way to me via Amazon, and I wondered if this is going to be able to be used as a full Echo device replacement? I know you can't use 'drop in' or 'messaging' features, which isn't a problem for me as I don't use those, but I do have a Hive home heating system, which can be controlled via my existing Echo device (e.g. adjusting temperature, turning the heating on and off) and I'm wondering if I will be able to do the same but via the Beam's in-built Alexa? Likewise my Neato robot vacuum cleaner... Best wishes, Kaje

I have a fairly large backyard that was already setup 2 pairs of outdoor speakers powered by a Sonos Amp. Everything was great, except that I found myself constantly wishing I could control the system by voice as I could do from within my house. There were other smart lights and such that I also wanted to be able to control while outside, not to mention the normal Alexa questions about weather and such. I had a spare echo dot that I could bring outside and plug in when I needed, but I found that it wasn't really that practical. For one thing, there wasn't a single place I could put the dot where it would cover the yard very well. What I really needed was a way to place several alexa dots throughout the yard in permanent spots, and protected well from the elements. Here's what I came up with. I have set up my Samsung TV UE40NU7120 with Sonos beam but cannot get the "turn off tv" control working. Whenever I say "Alexa turn off the TV", the response is just "ok" then nothing happens....

Hi, Yesterday I aquired a 1st gen play 5 that I though I would use with my Echo Dot using line in but the volume is all over the place. You can barley hear Alexa's voice but music, radio and news reports boom out. I have had a play with the line in settings and also the auto play volume but I can't seem to strike a balance. Does anyone else have this setup and managed to sort things out? Thanks for any input.

Want to pair new gen 3 echo dot to playbar, so alexa can speak through the playbar and I can hear her. Is this possible or was I miss lead when I purchased playbar?

After setting up my new Beam, I was distressed to discover that I can't change the Alexa Wake Word. My boyfriend's ex-wife is named Alexa, so no "Alexa" in our home! I was planning on changing it to "Computer." Since I can't, I've disabled Alexa. I was looking forward to the voice control because my eyesight isn't great and using voice control is easier. I've had to disable Alexa. Sonos, this is a big issue for people - please fix. Also, since changing the Wake Word is standard on other Alexa-enabled products, this dysfunction should be stated in the product description.

With the Sonos App and Spotify Premium my family can play different songs in different rooms on Sonos speakers. Using Alexa on Echo Dot if I start music on one speaker (e.g Office Sonos) then go to a separate Echo Dot in another room and ask it to play a different song on the Sonos speaker in that room (e.g. Dining room Sonos) the music stops playing on the first Sonos. I am assuming this is some limitation of the current integration between Alexa on Echo Dot and Sonos but was curious if anyone else had experienced it?

Hete’s a practical solution from the side lines. Turn off the mike on the Sonos Ones for now, spend $60 and get an Echo Dot, change its wake up word to “Echo” or “Computer” and use it to control all yhe other Sonos speakers in your household. You’ll get to continue to enjoy the superior sound Sonos products offer, and have the added benefit of making free phone. calls to Canada and the US that Amazon did not licence Sonos to have with the the current Sonos Alexa partnership... Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater music lovers, especially over $60... ?? ❤️my Sonos

We recently purchased a Sonos One and installed Alexa. It worked for about a week and now Alexa is gone. No chime. Nothing. Where did you go Alexa?

I'll be at a music festival where wifi is unreliable at best. I know I can get a Lightening to RJ45 ethernet adapter, so I'm thinking I can play my music on my sonos 1 through the ethernet connection. Will this work? Any tips/suggestions I should know so I can make it work?

When I first connected my Sonos One and assigned it to a room, Alexa would "turn on the light" and "turn off the light" just like the Echo Dot that was there before. A day later, it stopped understanding "the light", and I now need to say the room name + light. On this forum I read that this is yet another unadvertised limitation of the "Alexa-enabled-not-really-Alexa" Sonos One. Ok... but why did it work for a day, then stop???

I've been searching for the answer for this for a few days and I suspect it is simply "doesn't work like that", but hopefully someone can help me. TLDR: Can I tell Alexa to play music on all Sonos speakers if the speakers are already in individual Alexa groups? --- I have a couple of Sonos speakers with Alexa built in, all works well, and I love that the integration keeps improving over time. I'm trying to get to grips with Alexa groups and it's not working how I expected. I have a Beam in the lounge, and a One in the kitchen. They are in Alexa groups with other devices in each room, eg Alexa group "Lounge" has some smart lights and the Beam as the preferred speaker. I have it set up this way so that I can say things like "turn the lights on" without specifying the room. I can request music in the same way "play blah" and it works, and I can say "play blah in the kitchen" from the lounge and that works too. So far so good. What I want to be able to do is say "play bla
