Amazon Alexa and Sonos

After setting up my new Beam, I was distressed to discover that I can't change the Alexa Wake Word. My boyfriend's ex-wife is named Alexa, so no "Alexa" in our home! I was planning on changing it to "Computer." Since I can't, I've disabled Alexa. I was looking forward to the voice control because my eyesight isn't great and using voice control is easier. I've had to disable Alexa. Sonos, this is a big issue for people - please fix. Also, since changing the Wake Word is standard on other Alexa-enabled products, this dysfunction should be stated in the product description.

With the Sonos App and Spotify Premium my family can play different songs in different rooms on Sonos speakers. Using Alexa on Echo Dot if I start music on one speaker (e.g Office Sonos) then go to a separate Echo Dot in another room and ask it to play a different song on the Sonos speaker in that room (e.g. Dining room Sonos) the music stops playing on the first Sonos. I am assuming this is some limitation of the current integration between Alexa on Echo Dot and Sonos but was curious if anyone else had experienced it?

Hete’s a practical solution from the side lines. Turn off the mike on the Sonos Ones for now, spend $60 and get an Echo Dot, change its wake up word to “Echo” or “Computer” and use it to control all yhe other Sonos speakers in your household. You’ll get to continue to enjoy the superior sound Sonos products offer, and have the added benefit of making free phone. calls to Canada and the US that Amazon did not licence Sonos to have with the the current Sonos Alexa partnership... Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater music lovers, especially over $60... ?? ❤️my Sonos

We recently purchased a Sonos One and installed Alexa. It worked for about a week and now Alexa is gone. No chime. Nothing. Where did you go Alexa?

I'll be at a music festival where wifi is unreliable at best. I know I can get a Lightening to RJ45 ethernet adapter, so I'm thinking I can play my music on my sonos 1 through the ethernet connection. Will this work? Any tips/suggestions I should know so I can make it work?

When I first connected my Sonos One and assigned it to a room, Alexa would "turn on the light" and "turn off the light" just like the Echo Dot that was there before. A day later, it stopped understanding "the light", and I now need to say the room name + light. On this forum I read that this is yet another unadvertised limitation of the "Alexa-enabled-not-really-Alexa" Sonos One. Ok... but why did it work for a day, then stop???

I've been searching for the answer for this for a few days and I suspect it is simply "doesn't work like that", but hopefully someone can help me. TLDR: Can I tell Alexa to play music on all Sonos speakers if the speakers are already in individual Alexa groups? --- I have a couple of Sonos speakers with Alexa built in, all works well, and I love that the integration keeps improving over time. I'm trying to get to grips with Alexa groups and it's not working how I expected. I have a Beam in the lounge, and a One in the kitchen. They are in Alexa groups with other devices in each room, eg Alexa group "Lounge" has some smart lights and the Beam as the preferred speaker. I have it set up this way so that I can say things like "turn the lights on" without specifying the room. I can request music in the same way "play blah" and it works, and I can say "play blah in the kitchen" from the lounge and that works too. So far so good. Sonos Beam + 2 Sonos 1 + Sub (TV setup), separate Sonos One. Re-occuring issue when using Alexa with Amazon Music. Sonos plays only one song from the playlist/radio etc and stops. Hello there - I need help regarding my Sonos One and Sonos beam speakers with Alexa. When I ask Alexa a regular odd ball questions she responds just fine something like “how far is the moon” or “who won the game last night” - but when I tell her to go through my flash briefing she says “here’s your flash briefing” than crickets/nothing happens..... or something like “play John Mayer in Apple Music” and she responds “to do that, the skill needs to be activated in the Alexa app.” Or something of that nature. The thing is - all of these things are enabled and music/media accounts are all linked up. It was working properly before but now it doesn’t seem to work ever. I even when as far as resetting all 4 of my speakers (One; 5, Beam, and play 1) and restoring factory defaults and re set up all of my speakers. I am definitely at a loss. Any help or feedback is definitely appreciated - sucks I paid this much money for speakers that the wireless “voice” functionality doesn’t work. Thanks

The voice of Alexa on my sonos Beam is too low, if i turn up the volume it turns the volume up on EVERYTHING not just the Alexa voice, i think it should be separate how loud you want alexa or how loud you want the speaker to play. Is there a FIX yet? please help.

So I have a Sonos Beam in the master bedroom, and a Sonos One in the ensuite, The space is not huge, sp when you command "Alexa", both are responding. My understanding was the the Sonos devices with Alexa built in used Amazon's ESP (Echo Spatial Perception) technology that would allow both to listen, then chose the closer one to respond from, just like other Echo devices. This is not working for me. No matter where you are in the room, BOTH respond. When I called tech support they didn't know what I was talking about and told me I had to mute one of them. Not really a great option or how I intended to use them when I bought them. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Is it possible to stop the volume drop that occurs when someone uses alexa via one of the sonos speakers? I'll be listening in another room and it causes my music to drop in volume. This can be annoying. I understand why you'd have this occur in the room you are in but if someone in the loving room uses alexa to turn on a light my music shouldn't drop in volume in the bedroom.

I have an Echo dot connected to a whole house sound system and I use Alexa to play Pandora through the system. If I add a Sonos system to the network, enable the skills, etc., will Pandora play through the Sonos speaker as well?

Long time Sonos and long time Alexa user here. First time I setup my Sonos One, it took hours to get Alexa + Spotify + Flash briefing working. Not sure how I got it working in the end, but it was a lot of removing devices, adding them, removing skill, adding skill, clearing app logins, clearing cookies, etc. Very painful. I believe overnight there has been an update to Sonos overnight as my software says 10.1 as this page exists: https://www.sonos.com/en-gb/software/release/10-1 Yet... https://www.sonos.com/en-gb/software/release/10-2 Throws a 404. I can't find much else for 10.1.2 update, other than some forum posts in German. Seeing as this is a patch release (.2), and not a minor or major (.2 or .11), maybe Sonos don't share their release notes or change log? I'm trying to add a Sonos One to a room with an Existing Amazon Echo, for the purpose of improving accuracy of Alexa commands. Also, I've already set up Sonos since I have a Connect:Amp in this room. Before I added the Sonos One, I have been able to successfully play music through the Connect:Amp using the Amazon Echo for commands. When I go to add the Sonos One, I see no way to just add it to my existing Alexa system with all my connected devices. There appears to be a way to add Amazon devices to an existing setup, but not Sonos devices with Alexa built in. Is there any way to do this?

I have Alexa setup with my Playbar. "Alexa, play [band name] in the Living Room" results in music playing from Amazon Music, which is connected. I also have my Soundcloud account connected to my Sonos system. Is it possible to use Alexa to play music from SoundCloud on Sonos? I can't seem to construct the correct request or maybe it won't work? "Alexa, play my SoundCloud playlist [playlist name] in the Living Room" or "Alexa play my favorites from SoundCloud in the Living Room".

I have a 5.1 setup with a playbar, 2xPlay1 and subwoofer. Further more some Play Ones in other rooms. Im thinking about replacing the 2xPlay1 with Ones. But will Alexa work in the 5.1 Setup? Or will they have to be "main/primary" for it to work?

How do I stop Alexa turning down the volume in all the rooms rather than the one it is in? Listening in one room kids using Alexa in another volume up down up down up down.....,
