Amazon Alexa and Sonos

So I've recently got a Sonos One. Set it up, works fine with the Sonos App, all I want really. Figured I'd give the whole Alexa thing a shot anyway. So I went through the setup. Logged in with Sonos, logged in with Amazon, installed the app. linked the accounts, enabled the skill, all dandy. - The Skill is enabled in Alexa. - The Sonos shows up in the list of devices. - Alexa answers questions on the Sonos (weather, news, etc.) just fine. However, if I ask Alexa to play any music, radio, whatever, it just keeps telling me to enable the Skill in the App, which I have. I've read various topic on "fixes" with various resets, deletions and all sorts of faffing about. The question is: Is there a way to get this to work without dancing around a fire and sacrificing a chicken? Edit: Yes, I did ask Alexa to find new devices. (And again after deisabling and enabling the Skill once more) It just tells me it couldn't find any new devices. So does the app when trying to discover

I have an alarm set for every weekday, which I set through Alexa on my Sonos One. The Sonos One is grouped to a Play1. The alarm setting shows in the Alexa app as being set and on, yet it the alarm does not sound? This used to work perfectly but now does not work at all. I have checked the time and date settings in the Sonos app and everything looks fine. Not sure if it is from the latest update that it stopped working, Can anyone help?

Here in the uk I can now add Apple Music as the default music service on the Alexa app. However when I ask my sonos beam to play music it still uses amazon music. It says it can’t use Apple Music if I specifically ask to play on Apple Music. Both the Alexa app and the sonos app are linked to the same Apple Music account. What am I doing wrong?!

Will the ability to control Apple Music through Alexa Voice commands ever come to Sonos?

Hello all, after using my new Sonos One in the Kitchen I'm a convert to voice control!. I have dug my Echo Dot out of it's slumber and set it up as a "Group" in the Living Room with my Playbar 5:1 system as preferred speaker. It works great, if the TV is on and I ask "Alexa, play Prodigy" the Playbar goes into music mode and streams Prodigy from Deezer. Excellent!. There are a couple of things though, first of all I can't work out how to switch back to TV input via voice control?, maybe this is a skill that needs to be added?. "Alexa, Play TV"?. Next up if I ask "Alexa, play Absolute Radio 90's", it will play out of the Echo Dot, rather than my preferred speaker. Am I asking the wrong thing or is it because the Dot doesn't class it as music?. At any rate it seems to be an improving system and I'll be buying a few more Ones, my daughter thinks it's ace!, "Alexa, play One Direction" is all she says now in the Kitchen!. Good work so far Sonos!.

I bought the Sonos one in December 2017, telling everyone what a fantastic product this is, how wrong was I. 3 months later it keeps telling me “this device is offline” when I ask Alexa to play anything. I have reinstalled everything, rebooted everything, disconnected everything, reconnected everything, but still no joy. Sonos sort this out please it’s embarrassing what I read on these forums.....you should be ashamed.

Hi, I just picked up a Sonos One Gen 2 and i am trying to set it up with Alexa but i keep getting an error saying "there was a problem adding alexa" I have uninstalled and reinstalled both the sonos and alexa app. i have disconnected the device from alexa app. i have removed the authorisation from the amazon services area. ive tried disabling wifi and using ethernet just in case. i have also reset the sonos to factory settings. nothing seems to fix this issue. I'm in Australia if that matters. I see a few other topics are complaining about setting theirs up too and they seem to be in Australia as well.

I am working on a smart home design and as part of this am looking at Sonos and also being able to use the Alexa functionality of it for voice commands. I also want to be able to tell Alexa to play music or playlists off my local music library. If I'm running the SONOS desktop controller, are you able to do voice commands and have Alexa play music from your local collection?

I have a Vizio 4k tv that is connected to beam with HDMI ARC with an Apple TV connected to the Vizio on another port via HDMI. When I call Alexa to turn on TV, my tv switches to the ARC input and I see a generic white screensaver thing. I have to manually switch to say HDMI 5 for AppleTV so I can watch something. If I turn off the TV with it last being on HDMI 5 and turn it back on using Alexa it goes back to HDMI ARC. How do I keep it at the Apple TV HDMI?

Would someone be so kind as to help clarify whether there is a function to ungroup all? I have three rooms set up in Alexa groups, each with an Alexa device and a Sonos speaker set as the preferred the speaker. I also have created one group called “everywhere” that contains all three Sonos speakers set as the preferred speakers. Most of the time I just listen to music in a particular room and the preferred speaker functionality works brilliantly, only having to ask the local Alexa to play music and not specify the room. Occasionally, I would like to play music in the whole house which I can do by saying “Alexa play music everywhere”. This creates a Sonos group with all three rooms in as expected. However, this group then sticks and asking for music in any room, even after stopping the previous music, seems to result in it playing on the whole group again. So, I know the Amp do does not have Alexa built in, but I like to use Alexa voice controls to start streaming music. Could I use an Echo dot connected to the line in jack on the Amp to stream music through speakers connected to the Amp? Seems like this should work.

I have audio sources connected to the Line In input on my Play 5's. What is the Alexa syntax to play the Line In on a Sonos speaker? e.g., Alexa, Play Kitchen Line In on Bedroom Sonos TIA Don

When trying to add Alexa Voice Service through the Sonos app, I'm being directed to amazon.com and not amazon.co.uk to sign in. I don't have a .com account and need to be able to log in with .co.uk. On either of my Sonos One devices, I wake up Alexa, ask her to play a song. She responds saying she will now play that song on Amazon Music, but the song never plays after that. This is not happening on my Echo Dot devices on the same network/account.

I just got a Sonos Beam added to my system. Though it works fine (so far), Alexa on the beam isn't very loud like my play one is. And if I'm watching TV, she lowers the volume on the TV so she can speak, but I have to listen so closely and often have to ask again so I can try to hear her again. My play one is much louder. Is there a way to turn her up on the beam? Thx in advance.

Hi all, I have a pair of One's and I am unable to add Alexa. If I try I get an error message that it failed to add Alexa, it then brings back the black Sonos Splash screen and then for a second I can see an error message that it looks like as one of my speakers is unplugged. Then the room settings show my speaker pair as "Lounge (L+?)" as well for like a second and then it shows up again as "Lounge (L+R)". Any ideas anyone?

Glad to see we finally have proper Alexa integration with Sonos. Have been using Sonos speakers since the company first launched. I currently have a bedroom setup consisting of a Playbar and a Sub. Separate to this, I have an Echo (that I use primarily for news, not music). With the release of the new Sonos One with built in Alexa, I'm thinking of ditching the Echo and adding two Ones to have a proper surround setup My questions: If I ask Alexa a question (weather, news), will the response be played back across all the speakers in the same room or just one speaker? If I ask Alexa to play music (from Spotify), will it be played in just one speaker or all speakers in the room it is paired with? Thank you

I sometimes play music on a group of speakers and sometimes on a single speaker. Is there a way to be able to use both options without having to switch back and forth in the sonos app? Maybe a setup via Alexa with labels that differentiate the two?

I have been using a Sonos one and Sonos Beam since each were released. In just this last week, when requesting music using Alexa on both of these devices, Alexa has started adding “now playing on Sonos” to the end of her confirmation. So now she’ll say something like this “getting your KCRW radio station from Tune-In, playing on Sonos.” Prior to this week, she never added the “playing on Sonos”. For the life of me I can’t think of any change I made to my Sonos set up in the last week, so no idea what caused this change. This is pretty annoying, because I don’t even have any non-Sonos Alexa devices, so of course it’s playing on Sonos with every request I make, lol! Does anyone know of any way to disable her adding “playing on Sonos” to her confirmations? Thanks! 🙂

I've come across a strange situation this weekend where my parents at their home asking Alexa to play on 'living room' is starting the music on the sonos speakers called 'living room' in my house, 10 miles away on a different network! We are using different sonos accounts and different spotify accounts, and it only seems to work one way, I cant control theirs. We were able to do this repeatably even after using and controlling my sonos speakers from other apps. Seems to be a serious bug / privacy breach going on here. Anyone else come across this and found a fix?

Hey there; I have a house full of echos, dots and sonos speakers. In general, my Alexa Sonos skill is not working well. For example, I have two Play Ones paired in my kitchen as "Kitchen". When I say, "Alexa, play Billy Joel in the Kitchen" she says "Shuffling songs by Billy Joel on Kitchen" -- but no music plays in the Kitchen. She thinks she is streaming.... I have deleted all my smart devices, and reinstalled, etc. Not sure where to go from here. I was hoping you guys might have some troubleshooting suggestions. Thanks, Mark

HI i have spent a while trying to get alexia to play music via voice control. It will play music via the Sonos app. I can get the radio to play via voice control.. but really want to be able to play music that way.. can you help?

I have an Echo Show in the kitchen, Beam in the living room, and a Sonos One in my bedroom. If I stand 1ft from the Show and issue a command, the Show, Beam (15ft from the Show), and sometimes the One (25ft from the Show through a door) will perk up as they hear the wake word, but instead of the Show responding one of the Sonos devices will. Usually this is the Beam. Echo Spatial Perception SHOULD be able to tell I am closest to the Show and therefore expecting a response from the Show. Instead, if either of the Sonos devices hears the wake word they will respond although the command was not meant for them. I’ve tried factory resets, enable/disable the skill etc to no avail. Has this happened to anyone else?

I have a CD player on the line-in of a connect amp, grouped in Sonos app. I want to play CDs to my Play 5's and use Alexa as voice control. The Play 5's work great with Amazon Music as a source, but Alexa discovered the Connect Amp as a speaker, not a music source. Have not yet found the key to getting my CDs to play. At this point, im not even certain i have my amp confogured properly in the Sonos app, since it seems to want a music source identified, even though i want to use the line-in. Maybe i should just delete all and start over.

Hi team, I bought the Sonos beam yesterday and had no problem with the system and alexa. Today, it stops after playing one song. I have done all the steps outlined in previous articles, and I have factory reset the device and readded it, with still no luck. Also, when I ask my Echo in the bedroom to play music, it plays it on the sonos beam. I have them using different code names so they would work separately? Diagnostic number is 1475261485 Any help would be greatly appreciated
