Does the Echo Show control the Sonos System or is it only the Dot that works?

Sonos can be controlled from any 'Alexa Enabled' device, which includes all the echo device. There are now lots of products on the market that are Alexa Enabled, like the Sonos One and various 'dot-like' devices. The Amazon music app is also Alexa Enabled, and free. So you could setup and test it without purchasing anything.

It would be cool if you could control Sonos via the Echo Show screen, does it even support apps?

Are you saying there's an Android App that will send music to the Sonos speakers and have the Amazon Show display what artist/song is being played? I know you control the Sonos speakers through Sonos App, but not sure if it sends the artist, song information to the Amazon Show.

No there is not.

I have a show - and there is no way to integrate on screen to Sonos currently. It would be nice if you could get the song info and lyrics with the audio going to Sonos.... but that isn't possible unfortunately. Actually only way to do that would be a DOT grouped with the Show ... plugged into a Sonos input like Play:5. Then if you asked the show to play it would play to the show (and show on screen) and to the Play:5 via the DOT.

With the Echo Show 5 out soon, is it still the case that you cannot control Sonos from an Echo screen?

Correct. Using groups and default speakers, you could give voice commands to the Echo to play music on your Sonos. But nothing with the screen currently
