Amazon Alexa and Sonos

This is the continuation of many threads regarding this issue … this started more than 4 years ago and despite some announcements Sonos still not deliver this service … I am feed up and I sold all my Sonos speakers despite the sound quality.Sonos, please consider us, poor Swiss, a bit more and you will see how you can increase your sales. For now I will go to with another supplier, BO or BOSE, not the same price, but I live in Switzerland and can afford to change my sound equipment provider. This masquerade last for too long.See you Sonos 

When I use Alexa voice control  to play music on The ARC  (using Amazon music ) it never plays hd music.  Only when I use Amazon music (which I keep having to reauthorize via delete and adding again) through the Sonos app does the hd kick in. Basically using Alexa on the arc won't play high quality music. Why is that? Is there a fix? Is it a known issue cos it sure as hell bugs me.

I’m considering a pair of Fives.  I’ll primarily use AirPlay for streaming locally stored content, but my wife likes to just ask Alexa to play music.  Given that Alexa is not built in, I'm not 100% following how to set it up and what the end result will be.  I see the instructions for adding the skill.  But is an Echo device required to use Alexa after it’s all setup? Or can I just use the Alexa app on an iOS device to stream after setting it up?  I really don’t want to have to add another piece of hardware just to use Alexa on an $1000+ speaker system that’s advertised as supporting Alexa.  If I had to do that, seems like just using an audio cable would be the best way to go.  I'm not sure what value setting up a skill would provide.

To be clear: Sonos Roam works seamlessly with my other Sonos products in home, and Alexa is enabled and working on all Sonos devices - including the new Roam. (Alexa first entered our home when I purchased a Firestick and enabled it on my existing Sonos speakers)More specifically, my question is whether Alexa will (should) still work on my Sonos Roam even after I leave my home network and take the Roam on the road or to another location with wifi network. So far this does not work for me. I had hoped that Alexa would continue to work when mobile simply by sharing the existing cell network from the alexa-enabled (paired) mobile phone. If that didn’t work, I then hoped that access to any wifi network, would make Alexa available, but this does not seem true either.  Am incorrect with either hypothesis? Is there a work-around? 

I cant enable the Alexa skill to access Spotify on my Beam, Help and advice needed. I have set it up correctly, but it keeps asking me to enable the skill on the alexa app. please can someone tell me what im doing wrong

Hello! I have an Arc (+LS+RS) set up in my living room and have just purchased a One to go in my bedroom.  I can’t seem to get it so I can listen to one thing in the Bedroom and something else in the Living Room as well as have the ability to listen to the same thing on both.  Every time I try and listen to the same thing in both rooms it only plays in one room. 

I have recently purchased a play five. I added it to my Sonos account and all worked fine. For the first time I tried to use an Alexa Device to control the music streaming onto the Play five via tree Alexa. I updated all the software then went through the instructions to add Alexa skills which it seemed to do but when in Alexa it just cannot recognise the play five device. I have deleted the Sonos and Alexa apps from the iPad and reinstalled from iTunes and reset up the Alexa and play five but cannot I seem to resolve. They work fine individually the five being controlled from the Sonos S2 app and the the Alexa accessing Spotify from voice commands and streaming through the Alexa device but cannot get them linked. All thoughts and help appreciated  

I have looked through the community postings and can see this issue has been reported. I have tried the suggested fix - deregister devices, disable Sonos etc in Alexa.  I can play BBC radio in Sounds using the Sonos App on my iPhone. However when I ask Alexa to play “ Alexa Play BBC Radio 2 in Living Room” or “Alexa Play Radio 2 in Living Room” it constantly goes back to TuneIn and attempts to play S4-Radio Two which no longer exists. I can specify other music to play “Alexa Play Adele in the Family Room”  without any issues.

Sonos should not be able to use Amazon Alexa seal since it’s not available everywhere. I just decided to sell my Sonos. That said, I think we should use this space to discuss about alternative devices that could replace our useless non amazon alexa Sonos. What is an equivalent speaker that is Amazon Alexa friendly for Sonos? What would you buy instead? I have created a routine on Alexa. Alexa, “play cool music” Routine executes→ Play “Shuffle Playlist Cool Music on (Group Name)”In the routine, I do not have the ability to ‘play on group’ as it doesn't work. Also you only have the ability to select one device to play in the Smart Home choice in Alexa. I have a group called FRONT and I would like to play a playlist from Spotify on FRONT through Alexa. Any ideas would be appreciated.Thanks

So I have 3 areas Sonos1, Sonos2, Sonos3 and have grouped the 3 areas into Sonos Everywhere. I have 3 services I use (Pandora, XM, Spotify) I have been able to control everything through Alexa (Alexa play Pandora on Sonos3) and everything worked fine for the last couple years. Now when i tell Alexa to play Pandora on Sonos3 she says “music group name” is playing on Pandora (or any other music service) on Sonos3 (or either of the other 2 areas) and nothing plays. If I say to play on Sonos Everywhere it plays fine. 

It's been a month at least that asking to read a book does not work anymore. It starts reading but after a certain amount of time (it depends on the book and chapter) Sonos stops saying "song not encoded correctly" access denied. I tried this in 2 completely different systems, different accounts and different homes, and the problem is exactly the same.The problem is about Sonos speakers, in Italy, with Audible. Other services work as normal.I ask other Italians in these forums to let Sonos know about this problem.

Afternoon all and an early happy inbound new year to you.Have established the Alexa / Sonos relationships by room and our Show 15 correctly communicates with Sonos infrastructure rather well.What I’m finding less easy to understand is the content choice method …. how to get what we need playing. Having established the relationships and said ‘Alexa Play Sonos in Kitchen’ got the most bizarre selection of music that it apparently thinks I like. To say it was random would be an understatement.My question is, how to select the music we actually want to listen to in an efficient and easy way?We have Spotify, Amazon HD, Tidal Hifi and our own NAS of content. If I read right Tidal does not work within the Amazon infrastructure but I’d appreciate any links or quick look up or instructions how to select artists, albums, playlists or indeed radio channels. Many thanks in advance

This forum helped me get a new Sonos speaker working at my office yesterday, however, when I got home, the Sonos speaker in my living room was no longer working!So I have two Sonos systems - a grouped pair in my living room, and a single Sonos One at my office (miles away on a different wifi network)When I disable and re-enable the Sonos skill, it asks which Sonos speaker to control (out of a list of two). Whichever one I select now works, but the one I couldn’t select, no longer works. Is it possible to have two Sonos speakers in the Alexa eco-system?I’ve attached screenshots of the group setup for the two rooms. Thanks in advance!  

I purchased my third Sonos One over the holidays to add to my office. It's been a nightmare getting this set up with Amazon Alexa. It seems the problem is in the discovery phase - Alexa doesn’t locate the Sonos. However, in the Alexa app, unlike my existing Sonos One which is depicted by a speaker icon, the new Sonos One is being represented by a wifi icon and not the speaker icon, which I’m thinking is the source of my troubles. I have been fiddling with it for several hours but can’t get it to work. Anyone run into this before?This was a refurb bought directly from Sonos, and I’m wondering if it's got issues. It is running 13.4.1I’ve attached a screenshot showing the icon representing the new Sonos. I appreciate any help!  

When streaming music to my Sonos speakers via Alexa and I open the Sonos S2 app the scrub bar for controlling the exact location of the music stream is missing.  When I start the same music via the Sonos iPhone app the bar is there. This missing scrub bar happens regardless of the music service I’m using (Apple Music, Spotify, etc).  Is this normal? 

Is it possible to set Alexa volume independently of the music volume? Every time I've played some music Alexa is way too loud.   

Hello all,i have a question since i have home both sonos gen 1 and  gen 2 and distinct sonos networks.I would like to manage my old sonos gen 1 with an Alexa DOT in a dedicated room and manage all the sonos gen 2 with another alexa DOT in another room.My question is : Is it possible ?When i try to install the sonos plugin for Alexa, I have to chose between sonos network 1 or 2.Thank you for your support

None of my Sonos products work with the Alexa command. The reply is “sorry i'm having trouble please try in a little while”I have restarted the router and my Sonos devices but no joyCan anyone help?

I have nine Sonos speakers, three of which are the picture frame. All three bought at the same time from the same place. The first one connected no problem and was found by an echo dot and control works great.The other two are set up in m office as a stereo pair. Both connected to my Sonosnet and all visible on the app with a connection of WM0, so they are all functioning. However, if I try to use discovery service in the Alexa app, they are not found.If i start any other room and then couple the office speakers to them everything plays. I can then turn off the primary source and listen to the office speakers.This is simply not how it is meant to be. I have tried every work around I can think of. Deregister, re-register, use pass through, changed the channels on the boost,etc:Any thoughts?

We have just bought a Sonos Beam , and use a Amazon Ech Dot to control it for  radio stations / Music etc with Amazon Music. We also have a Alexa Plug which has a Floor lamp plugged into it. When we give the Command “Light off”, it works but allways ends with loud  OK from the Beam. How do i stop this, i have looked at the settings on the Echo dot and the command section were it says no replys is clicked off.. Any help appreciated 

I have a Question to ask , one of my customer has bought Sonos Amp with some 3rd party in celling speaker, now he is asking can we connect Alex to Sonos Amp if yes ? then how and if no then why.  Kindly request can anyone please help with this query. Thanks !!!  

I am using the Sonos controller app on a Fire Tablet HD 10. The tablet is paired to a Sonos Move via bluetooth. The idea was to have all sound from the Fire Tablet output to the Sonos Move and have a beefed up echo show that doubles as a Sonos controller. This works for the most part. If I say, “Alexa, play christmas music,” the fire tablet plays a christmas playlist in spotify and the sound comes out the Sonos Move as expected.  The issue comes with trying to use Alexa to then control music playback with Spotify. If I say, “Alexa, pause spotify,” I can see the spotify app pause, and then automatically play again. As if it hears and performs the command and then something reverses it. I’ve tried saying pause, pause spotify, stop spotify, stop the music, etc. and nothing gets it to pause. I can control volume however. Does anybody have an idea of what the cause may be? FYI, Spotify seems to be the only app that will not pause. I’ve had success pausing/playing iHeartRadio and even Youtub

I have a Alexa Sonos system at my primary house. I purchased a Alexa beam for my secondary house. At the second house, the Sonos will only work if I manually select music from my phone on the Sonos app. If I ask Alexa to say " Play Pandora Rock Station" Alexa says, " You must activate this on your phone". It is activated on my phone, as I have used my Alexa Sonos system at my primary house. I spent an hour on the phone with Amazon and got nowhere. The said to ask Sonos. The problem seems to be with Alexa interfacing with Sonos at two different locationsl. Please Help

Hi, About 10 days ago Alexa stopped working on all my Sonos-Alexa enabled devices:1 x Beam & 2 x Sonos Oneafter working flawlessly for about 2.5 years.I’ve spent the last 10 days trying various lengthy reset/re-setup sequences that I have found on line, including this one on the community forums:  The devices re-appear in the Sonos S2 app, they also appear in the Alexa app after re-enabling the Sonos Skill but any attempt at re-adding the Alexa Voice Assistant to any of the 3 devices fails with the error "There was a problem adding Alexa"  in the Sonos S2 App. I’ve gone around the reset/re-setup loop many times but its jus not working and there isn’t enough details provided in the App to let me troubleshoot it myself so I have generated a Support Diagnostics report and here is the Confirmation Number 743124758:If any one can advise or any support person can look in to the diagnostics and get back to me I would appreciate it. Regards Kt.
