Amazon Alexa and Sonos

I bought Alexa specifically because I was told I would be able to use its voice control features with Sonos. I am now learning that I can't ask Alexa to play one of my Sonos playlists! Only change the volume or stop playing. Is this really true? If so, what a waste. How hard can it be for Alexa to know a few playlists? Even if I have to enter them into the app once manually for Alexa to recognize them, it doesn't sound like too great a technological feat.

Just found Alexa on my echo Dot can now control Spotify on my Play:1 Has an update just been released to Alexa or Sonos as I don’t think I’ve seen any announcements and the Alexa skill still indicates Beta Has anyone else found this to be working and has anyone had any success getting room groups to work?

Is anyone else finding that if a speaker has been turned on by Alexa then when the speaker is not on it can’t be restarted using the button on the top until it has been restarted using the Sonos app or Alexa? We use the play 1 in the kitchen for local radio and it’s handy to just turn it on and off when passing without going to talk to Alexa elsewhere or fumbling for a phone.

I'm a developer at a company who has an Alexa skill that supports Alexa's Audio Directive Interface for audio output via supported Echo devices. The device context that gets passed to a skill when a user is using it is quite generic and the _only_ way to know if a device supports audio playback is via the supportedInterfaces object. If the object reports AudioPlayer: {} that means it supports the AudioDirectives and I can feed it an audio stream rather than give the user a graceful failure. The Sonos One is reporting to skills that it follow the Audio Directive Interface when it in fact ignores audio requests. If a user asks my skill to play something it appears to the end user that it works but no audio actually starts playing from the device. So I don't actually know what kind of device is interacting with my skill outside of the supportedInterfaces object I have no way of gracefully failing in this scenario and telling the user that the current device is unsupported. I have 2 x 5’s connected to Alexa. I can start the music ‘Alexa, turn on music in the office‘.. I can control the volume but can’t change the tracks. When I ask for a an artist or a track, nothing changes & the track playing continues. I am using amazon music btw. Separately, frequently Alexa can’t find ‘office’ as a group meaning that I need to revert back to a device to control the music - which is frustrating. I hope thtat you can help

Hi! I'm having trouble trying to use my Alexa with Sonos. When I say "Alexa play Frank Sinatra in the Sonos Living" it give me the answer "Your Amazon Music Marketplace is not configured correctly for this device". In some cases when I say "Alexa play Frank Sinatra in the Sonos Living" it resumes the queue. Can you guys help me? Thanks,

Hi all If like me, you are starting to use the new Alexa Routines and your default position when encountering playback problems with the Sonos 1 via Voice Control is to 'Forget All' and then 'Discover' within the PC Alexa App then beware, this will DELETE ALL of your Actions defined across your Routines...

I hadn't paid too much attention to the Homepod release date, but just checked and saw that its 'December'. I'm not a retail marekting expert, but considering that the Sonos One, all new Echo and Google Home products, and plenty of advertising is out and ready for Black Friday, does this boad rather bad for Apple in this space? I kind of think it does. I know there are a lot of Apple fans out there who will wait, but if you're giving it as a gift, can you wait and hope it comes out in time and that you're able to get one. Does the fact that it hasn't even been fully tested and reviewed give cause for concern? By comparison, people have stated that the Sonos One was released early. It has it's issues and is alexa integration is beta. From a business perspective, was it better to release when they did so that they were fully avaiable for Christmas? From a customer perspective, are you glad the product is out now, vs a vague date in December...even if it's not all it can be

Hi guys, I am an English speaker based in Germany. I setup the Sonos one with my existing Sonos network. It all worked beautifully in English (i could control my lights and music (both itunes and amazon music) . The only issue was from the fact that Amazon Alexa Skills were not in English. So I followed advice and changed my content settings in Amazon account to US.com. This ensured my Alex skills are now in English rather than German which is great. Now when I ask ask Sonos Alex 1 to play music, it either says that my Amazon music is not configured or it cannot find music by any of the artists i ask for. It will also not connect to Apple music. Does anyone have any ideas what I can do? Worth noting my amazon and apple music services are playing via the normal phone app.

Hi, I’ve had my Play:1 speaker for a while and have just updated the app. There is an option called ‘voice services’ and when I click on it, it gives me two options. One of them is ‘set up voice control on your Sonos 1’. I have clicked on it and a picture of a speaker the same as mine is there, I have downloaded the Alexa app but when I click the option ‘set it up now’ on the Sonos app it just shuts off. I got the impression I didn’t need an actual amazon echo speaker and could set up the Alexa app with my speaker but it doesn’t seem to be working for me.

I know you can use Alexa voice control to alter any sonos as it streams music, but can you use it (probably via Echo Plus) to adjust the volume when watching TV? i.e. "Alexa, turn down the TV" once you've established with Alexa you are using the PLAYBASE for the TV sound? This is pretty much all I want Alexa for because as much as I love my playbase, having to: -get my phone out, -unlock it, -open the app, -make sure I'm on the right room, -then turn down the TV Is not ideal.

I have two Sonos Play 1 and am getting a Play 3. I was planning on buying an Echo Dot, to use Alexa with it, but then you came out with Sonos One. That made me think twice. Now I am reading that in 2018 you will be integrating Siri to Sonos, and now I really don't know what to do. So I have the following questions: Siri/Airplay related: 1) Will Siri be available on a speaker (like Alexa is currently on Sonos One)? 2) Since Apple doesn't have a stand alone device for Siri (like the Echo Dot), is it fair to assume the Siri commands will be given through an iPhone or iPad? 3) Will Airplay work with all the speakers in the Sonos line, or will it be with a specific model (e.g. Sonos One)? 4) if so, then is it enough having one of them in your home system, or must they all be individually compatible 5) Can I currently tell Siri to play a song using my Sonos speakers? I like the button to disable the microphone on the top of the Sonos One. However, I just bought several of them scattered throughout multiple rooms. It would be really great to have a toggle (e.g. on the Desktop or Mobile apps) that would turn off all the mics. Is there any way to do that?

I have tried a group name called "House" the "the House" - but doesn't work. If I say "Living Room" it plays all rooms. I think maybe it is because they are already grouped on Sonos? I don't mind.. but it only plays one song then stops.

I recently bought the Sonos One on a trip to the US. Am now setting it up back in the UK. Have synced it to my Sonos system and it now shows up on my iPhone app. The app now prompts me to 'Add Amazon Alexa'. When I click this it says 'Your Sonos system requires an update'. When I click 'Update Sonos' it says 'Unable to update Sonos app... A Sonos update has been released but is not yet available in your app store'. Can't get any further than that but am sure I have the latest app, and that Alexa should be enabled in the UK?

Got the new Sonos One and attempted to add to system. I have app 8.1.1 on all devices. After connecting to my system, the app said I need an update. Continuous recycling through that process.

Everything was working fine. Then I went away for a week for work came back and Alexa won't play the music in the correct room. I'll say "Hey Alexa, play music in office", it will then say "playing music in office" and start playing the music in the living room. When I look at the app, it shows it's playing in the living room. I will have to then physically stop music in living room and then play music in office. Anyone else having this issue? Just started happening.

I setup my echo dot to my 2 Sonos Play 1 and was able to control volume, turn on/off etc. Today I added a sonoff Wifi Switch (from amazon - compatible with Echo) which is working correctly however, now I can't control the volume or turn on/off my sonos (I can still select what to play though). I keep getting 'Sonos is not responding' or 'That command doesn't work on Sonos'. Has anyone else experienced anything like this or has any suggested fixes? (I've already tried renaming and resetting the dot)

I realise this is a beta release and that Sonos would obviously ensure Amazon music works first but having waited a year to find out I can’t use Deezer with Alexa is disappointing. Whilst I have an amazon music account the integration doesn’t work, if I ask Alexa to play something it plays a short example of the song and not from my Amazon playlist. A poor user experience from what should’ve been a great announcement. The new app is ok but you’ve removed the swipe right facility to browse music when in room playback mode and swipe up to view nav bar doesn’t work.

Hi All, I am having a problem, that after searching the support community nobody seems to be having so I am hoping you can help. My System Bedroom (2 x Play 1’s set up as a stereo pair) Kitchen (2 x Play 1’s set up as a stereo pair) Portable (1 x Play 5) Living Room (1 x Playbar, 1 x Subwoofer, 2 x Play 3’s set as surrounds) I have 3 echo dots, one in the Living room, bedroom and kitchen. I have set up my sonos system on the Alexia app and all rooms are seen in the devices section of the app and all account linking went as it should have. When a ask Alexia to play music in the Bedroom or on Portable all voice commands work as they should but if I ask Alexa to play music in the kitchen or the living room she replies in exactly the same way as for the Bedroom or Portable but no music plays. I have done all the usual, rebooting everything including the router, disabling the skill in the app and setting it up again but I have exactly t

I would be interested in people’s views on the new Alexa enabled Sonos? I purchased on the other week but find its functionality very limited. It will not fully operate my other Sonos units. In addition to this I have it connected to my Hue lighting system although it works some of the time I do find it very temperamental

Alexa says that she is going to play the podcast and she even describes what it is about, but then nothing plays. I've enabled the podcast player and the anypod skills, but neither one works.

I have added a Sonos One to my Sonos network and integrated with Alexa that all went OK. Now I want to rename my Sonos One. That is easy enough to do with the Sonos but what do I have to do to update Alexa? Just rename in with the Alexa app? Thanks

I did a search and can't find an app for Alexa on W10. Is there one? If so, can someone provide a link. Assuming there is one and I get it loaded will I be able to give a voice command to tune in my various internet stations, including Pandora?Thanks. Also, on the W10 Sonus app where is the Favorites list? I have created three internet radio station favorites but I can't find the favorites list anywhere.
