Voice control and smart home

Just picked up the Sonos One (My 6th Sonos Speaker)... and I am super disappointed about the mic sensitivity. I placed the new Sonos One is the same exact place where my Echo was.... and I have to repeat and speak very LOUD for the sonos one to hear me. In fact... my echo dot in another room usually hears me first. Also... the fact that I can't pair a Sonos One with a Play 1 is silly. Using 2 Sonos One as a Pair is Alexa over-kill. This seems like an easy software update.

Is there not a way to control the volume via Alexa for ALL speakers in a group vs one at a time?

has anyone tried using the amazon smart home group feature? I tried using it, but given i have sonos in the living room and another one in the bathroom of which both are named after their respective rooms, i can't create any smart home groups with the same name, such as "living room". A work around i found was to momentarily rename the sonos speaker something else (but do this ONLY in the alexa app not the sonos app), and then create the home group and then rename the device back to how it is in the sonos app (i.e. just "living room"). I don't know if it is something that alexa needs to fix or what. I feel that alexa should have categories setup to distinguish a speaker name vs a light name vs now their smart home group names. They are all different things. Doesn't matter if you have lights all called "living room" they are lights vs a speaker called "living room".

I think this might be down to the public beta, but Alexa is unable to get my Play: 1 speakers to play Angel Radio from TuneIn. I clearly ask for Angel Radio, but Alexa responds with 'for an angel' and there is silence. Going into the app, the station logo is there, but it does not seem to exist. Angel Radio is one of only three stations in my favourites list, and will play from the app (and if I ask Alexa to just play it without specifying the room, it plays on my Echo Dot with no problem. Any solutions??

Can´t find device in Alexa app even though the Sonos is enabled? Is this not yet working in Norway? When checking voice services in the Sonos app it says "not available in your country". Is this the reason it won´t work? Thanks in advance

Hi Sonos team, can you provide an estimate of when the Sonos skill will be available for Alexa users in Australia? Given the development process basically requires opening the Alexa “Code Editor” selecting all the JSON text and copying it; click “Skill Information” to go back to the languages selection. Then go to the new language tab for English (Australia), select the “Interaction Model” at the left side, go to the “Code Editor” and replace all the code there with that one that you’ve just copied. Then Click “Apply Changes” and then “Build Model”. Then you need to wait while model is built (usually around 40 seconds) and then click “Save Model”. Click “Skill Information” to go back to the skill and take a look at what’s missing here. Likely only the “Publishing information” tab that’s missing, so just go and fill it out. Finally scroll down the page and click “Submit for certification” button. Then in a day or maybe at worst a few; us poor Aussies will be able to add the Sonos

The Sonos system doesn't seem to have access to Alexa Skills. If this is not true then where do I find/enable them. And are they the same as whats available in the Echo from Amazon? Thanks.

I think it is not just the mic sensitivity of the Sonos One, but also the accuracy of the wake word detection. Alexa has woken up to (from the TV) "They must think I'm the nanny" "With Brexit this will take" "Accelerating UK growth" "Eccentric" And other random words, some but not all containing the letter "X". I recorded the clips, and when played back they consistently trigger Alexa to wake up. Strangely, when I repeat these words, Alexa doesn't wake up. Sometimes she doesn't wake up at all unless I stand over her, or shout. If you want the audio clips, let me know.

Alexa is a big ecosystem. It isn't just music. It isn't even mostly music. So is it seriously the case that I can't use my Dot to hear my commands (shopping, weather, podcasts, news, grocery list, translation, etc.), and hear Alexa's voice respond to me through my Sonos speakers? So this much ballyhooed integration is just. . . cueing music from time to time? This is truly pathetic if so. I hope someone can enlighten me.

I can increase/decrease the music volume by voice commands but Alexa voice volume remains the same. How can I raise or lower Alexa's voice level.

The Calm Radio app in Sonos works fine. However when I try to start a channel via Alexa I get the message "sorry we are having problems connecting to your calm radio skill right now". Anyone else having this problem?

Since i've owned Sonos products my biggest bugbear has been that there is no indication of the volume level on the app, meaning when I turn up my car volume it goes from e.g. 0 to 90. Now it's not a major problem as on the app I can gauge that the volume slider is at 50% but when using Alexa I have no idea what the volume level is and it's really annoying me. Each time I wish to adjust the volume up or down I have to ask her "Alexa turn the volume up in the kitchen" nope that's not load enough, "Alexa turn the volume up in the kitchen" still not load enough, get my drift guys (and girls) is there a way to get volume to percentage of 100% or an this be added to the voice control please? If you encounter this issue of Alexa on your Sonos device, here is probably the issue and solution. Per example, if you ask Alexa the weather and it said in WESTLAKE instead of your location from your Amazon account, ti's because the issue is from your Amazon account. The PROBLEM is maybe your e-mail account. Mine was connected with both CAD and US Amazon accounts and made a glitch on recognizing ALL my other smart devices on Sonos. SOLUTION is to 1) use a different e-mail address and 2) reconnect on Alexa app with that new e-mail. After, 3) delete from your Sonos account the Amazon Alexa and 4) Reconnect with the new e-mail. Should then work like a breeze. I've spent hours with Sonos & Amazon Alexa tech support but finally found the solution on the web!

Will an Amazon Echo connected to my Sonos network play line-in audio from a Sonos CONNECT? I am considering purchasing an Echo Dot. I currently own a Sonos CONNECT and PLAY:1. I mostly listen to my turntable connected to the line-in on my CONNECT. If I buy an Echo, will the Echo Dot's speaker play line-in audio from my CONNECT once its synced to my Sonos network? Additionally, will Alexa commands like "Alexa, turn it up" work while playing line-in over the network?

I just bought a play:1 for my kitchen. My Alexa Dot is 10 ft away. My sonos will play Spotify and music but when I ask Alexa to play my Flash News Briefing it only plays it on the Dot and not the Sonos Play:1. Any suggestions?

I’m having problems linking sonos skill in the Alexa app. I recently switched from UK to Au account when sonos skill became available in Australia. When I switched Alexa couldn’t find my speakers and so I deleted them from my Alexa app and disabled the skill. Now when I try to re-enable it I get as far as allow Alexa to control your sonos system but the app just hangs and nothing happens when I press the Okay button. Frustrating! Hope someone can help! ??

Hi all. I am looking at purchasing the new Sonos One as an addition to my Gen 1 Sonos system. Will the new Sonos One pair/group with all my of my gen 1 speakers ? I am aware you must buy two Sonos One speakers if you want to use them together (stereo)since the Sonos 1 will not pair in as a stereo with Sonos One, but will my existing Sonos 1 be able to work in a group set up? We have a new Alexa speaker 1 in the bedroom, which is in the loft, so separated by a couple of floors from the bridge on the ground floor. We have a WiFi booster on the floor between. Issue we have is that alexa is inconsistent and drops out . The router is a few years old now, is there anything we can do to fix the problem ,which is irritating ..

I bought a Sonus1 with Alexa. Set up ok and worked wonderfully. Yesterday Alexa stopped talking. Ecerything looks ok but U cannot get Alexa to work again?

Hi, I live in France. I have a Sonos system enabled with my smart TV and an Echo which I configured (hacked) since Alexa is not yet available in France. I was recently given a Sonos One which I have added to the network ; Spotify is enabled and works properly. Question: how do I enable Alexa for the Sonos One? When I was setting up the device, the app said that voice services were not available; wondering if there is a workaround? Thanks!

Just noticed a Synology article on accessing music on their units via voice control. http://bit.do/SynAlexa Is US English only and only supports 2014 and later units, but it's a move in the right direction for accessing local music. Though it does send the music from your NAS to Echo via Amazon servers rather then local LAN.

Anyone have a suggestion why a Alexa voice controls won't work with a play5? It will play music, but I can't adjust the volume level via Alexa.

Hello, I currently own a Sonos One that I purchased here in Mexico. I'm wondering when Alexa will be supported here. I've read about this topic and there's no specific time frame on when this will be available. I really don't mind at all that Spanish is not supported anywhere in the world with Alexa since I'm a native English speaker from the US and all I really need is Alexa to be available period. At the moment is there anyway around this? I have a US app store account and have downloaded the Amazon Alexa app on my phone but still no luck in setting it up on my Sonos.

I noticed whenever I initiate music using Alexa I can’t thumbs up/down songs on the app if I need to. I have to stop and restart Pandora from the app to get that option. Am I missing something or is this a feature not currently supported? If not supported, I’d like to request it. Thanks.
