There's a key issue with the Playbase, which is marketed for both Music and TV: the EQ settings required for music are very different to the EQ settings required for TV; however the Playbase offers only one setting and requires updating by me each time. A device as smart as Sonos should be able to allow two EQ settings which auto-switch depending on what's being played. Here's more detail: For Music, my house seeks a warm response with a good amount of bass. To achieve this we set: - bass at unity - treble reduced by around 4 notches - loudness off, true tuning off For TV we want voice to come through clearly without being drowned by the bass, and without being too harsh. Here’s what we do: - bass reduced by 4 notches - treble reduced by 1 notch - loudness off, true tuning off, speech enhancement off What is necessary is that the above two EQ settings can be set up: - One for when the Playbase is receiving audio from the optic fibre (i.e. from the TV) - One for wher

My tv has been working fine with hdmi arc to beam plus sub and play1 rears. Yesterday the tv reverted to its own speakers. I changed settings to use hdmi again and it worked. Now it’s happened again but I can’t get same fix to work. It says connecting and takes some time but no audio from the Sonos speakers. Any ideas? Could it be a sonos update has affected connection?

I have a room where i have Optomauhd40 projector in the roof in the back of the room. Also at the back of the room i have ps4 pro, 2x Sonos ones and a Sonos Connect. In the front i have the screen and Sonos Beam. Problem is that i cannot connect the Sonos surround sound to the ps4 pro or the projector. I have tried to pull optical line from the connect to the projector and from the ps4 pro to the connect but cannot get it working. I dont want to pull a wire from the beam to the projector/ps4 pro. Anybody who has experience of this situation? I have read tons of writings but still dont have a clear solution for this.

Hello! I recently upgraded my television to a newer model and so far everything has been pretty good! I did unfortunately learn that the PLAYBAR does not support DTS which is unfortunate, but it still sounds great! What isn't so great, is despite following the instructions in the LG magic remote setup page, I am unable to register the magic remote with the SONOS app on my iPhone! I register a new remote, and press the volume + button, which is registered within the app. Then it asks me to press the volume + button 3 times, which is registered within the app. Then it asks me to press the volume - button 3 times, which is registered within the app. Then it asks me to press the mute button 3 times, which the SONOS PLAYBAR will not recognize no matter what I do. I believe the LG Magic Remote may have been updated and the SONOS speaker has not been configured to reflect that. My Beam continues to play the audio from the TV after shutting it off with the cable box/TiVo remote. I have it connected via the optical cable into my cable box. I have to either manually volume down on the beam or use the app to mute it. Any ideas?

Similar to Surround, I'd love to see separate Sub levels for TV and Music.

I have a Sonos Connect going into my Denon 6200 receiver using the analog l/r cables. Is there anyway to get any subwoofer output from this setup? I have set my speakers to "small: so that it supposedly forces LFE to my sub at 80hz and yet I turn the volume up on my powered sub (Paradigm subwoofer) and I hear no audible difference (on the receiver I just see it set to L/R). This is driving me nuts as the setup sounds so weak relative to when I stream music via my apple TV. So either I use apple tv for music and I have no multi-room capability or I use my Sonos connect and have multi-room but then our family room sounds inferior to the play 5 speakers in other rooms. Help please.

TV (Model # QN75Q8FNBFXZA) recognizes Sonos Beam via HDMI ARC. However, there is no sound. Have tried numerous times, too many to count, to reset/unplug/replug, etc. Still nothing. Any ideas? Thank you in advance. 

Hi, I am considering to buy Sonos to my new house. First I want to place sonos beam and two play one as surround. In future I will place another play one in bathroom and in other rooms. Living room and kitchen is I would say medium size, there are measures in plan. surround speakers will be mounted under ceiling. Later I will probably buy Sonos subwoofer. Does this setup make sense for my living room? Is Beam powerfull enough for my space? If I play music from spotify do all speakers play? Thanks in advance Honza

Hi all, I am looking to start a home theater system for myself and I'm caught between two options. I am trying to decide if it would be better for me to start a 5.1 setup with a receiver that would run about $500 and speakers that would cost about $400. I know different speaker and AV setups produce different sounds and functionality, but I am just curious how you would compare the sound quality and functionality of 2 Sonos 5s and a bridge to a comparable 5.1 AV Network setup at the price above. The use of this system is primarily to play music followed by watching TV and Movies. I have heard various 5.1 systems but have never heard a Sonos speaker. What would be the pros and cons of owning each of these types of systems. Thanks, A Sonos newcomer

I'm looking to create a 5.1 setup with a soundbar, sub, and the largest speakers possible for the side/rears. My supplier hasn't come back with any info, and all of the sonos systems I work with are unfortunately not set up for 5.1 systems for me to test. Do the new Play:5s now offer the option to make a 5.1 system, or am I stuck with getting the Play:3/1s? If a Play:5 5.1 setup is not an option, when will it be?

... Wow! They sound amazing. I happened to have Lord of the Rings on, and as soon as the surrounds were installed, the difference was immediate and awesome. Much better than I expected. I already have a high end surround system in another room, so I thought my wife was crazy for buying me these Play:1s for Christmas. Actually thought about returning them. But now - no way! The Playbar with the Play:1 surrounds already sounds better than my other system. Just lacking the bass of the sub, but honestly, not a big issue, as the bass is still very good. Great job Sonos! Now just have a 50% off sale on the Sub, and I will be in home theater heaven.

Hey Folks! I'm a happy owner of five Sonos speakers throughout my current home, three play 3s and two play 1s, older models. We love the functionality. Our original home is fairly small. But not anymore. We have just added a 22'x22' great room to the house. It has a 14' cathedral ceiling with 8' high walls and will feature hardwood floors with area rugs and traditional skim-coated plaster walls. There are a few large windows. I'm considering a 70-80" television just due to the size of the space. The framing is completed and rough electrical will be installed in the next three weeks, so my time to select home theater for wiring, etc, is getting tight, and I'd like to stick to Sonos, but had a couple of questions for this community: 1) Does anyone who currently has the Sub/Playbar/Play 1 configuration have it in a room about this size or larger (480-500 square feet) and if so, is the system sufficient for this size of a space? When the TV connected to the Playbar is turned on, The volume is loud, almost defaulted back to either where the music was previously or at a high set level. How do we set a lower default setting so that when the TV is turned off, then back on, The default level is low and not blowing out the neighbors Thanks!

I have a Beam connected to my 65" Panasonic TV using an HMDI cable. When I turn on the TV the Beam does not connect. I have to unplug and replug the HMDI to the Beam for it to work and it usually works at that point. The volume control on my TV or cable box sometime works. Any suggestions

Hi All, I have a 2018 58” Samsung UHD 7 Series TV which I would like to configure in the Home Theater Mode. Here is my current configuration: 58” Samsung UHD 7 Series TV with Optical PCM Audio Out (stereo only) = No Dolby or Dolby+ SONOS Playbar SONOS Sub I am thinking of adding an[ iArkPower HDMI audio extractor and two (2) SONOS Play:1 rear speakers to produce 5 speaker surround sound. I am wondering if an = iArkPower HDMI audio extractor can be used to produce Dolby 5.1 for my Playbar, Sub and (2) Play:1 Rear Speakers in surround = Home Theater mode. When viewing TV with the BEAM + 2 X PLAY:1 the volume fluctuate massively. Generally very loud during adverts and quiet during the program, especially when just dialogue on the TV. I have used the Speech Enhancement and Night mode but neither worked.

Hello all, Ok, so need some advice on the most ideal setup for the following, 1. Playing TV through the Xbox one 2. Playing the visuals through a projector (with only two standard HDMI inputs) 3. Playing the audio through the Sonos Beam and Play 1’s The obvious restriction here is there is no HDMI ARC input for the projector. Therefore, transferring the audio to the beam from the Xbox is causing me issues. The video from Xbox to projector is via HDMI - but how do I go about connecting the Sonos beam for the audio? Please advise on any adapters I require? Adam

I'm sure this has come up before, but I did not find the topic in a quick search and i wanted to add my feedback. With Beam/Sub and play:3 rears the resulting 5.1 sound is good. But I can only imagine what adding play:5 to the front left and right would do. In particular to keep up with the sub that overpowers the whole system (because it's so great and powerful). It would not require any hardware changes, and what would be needed is the programming/tuning to set the left/right speakers up. What can we do to convince Sonos to add this functionality? They will 100% benefit from increased sales and customers will benefit from even better sound. Thanks

I could make use of a Sonos adapter dongle that would take whatever audio source device its connected to and stream that audio to your Sonos Speakers. Think of something like a Chromecast Audio, but for Sonos. You could have one dongle for different connections (interchangeable plugs) or attached connections with different versions of the adapter My thinking behind that is to take something without sonos support for example a computer, I would plug in a sonos adapter into the 3.5mm headphone jack and have my computer audio stream to a stereo pair of Play ONE. I could have that stereo pair sitting on my desk and act as my now computer speakers. Also, now that Im typing this, I thought, You could also have a dongle for HDMI ARC. It could benefit in several ways. A cleaner set up without the hdmi cord running up to the tv from your sound bar, for those of us who dont have our wires running behind walls. My tv has an coaxial S/PDIF outlet. Does anyone knows what kind of connection cable I need to connect it to the HDMI input of the Sonos AMP? The cable that Sonos provides has an optical input and HDMI output. I search for a connector with an coaxial input and HDMI output. Does this even exist?

Hello All! Just moved into a new home and trying to figure out how to place my Sonos system. I have the Playbar, Sub, and two Play 1:s. In my old house i had a pretty small living room so it was easy to mount the surround speakers (Play: 1's) on the wall at head level to the left and right of the couch. In our new home I'm told the Family Room/Kitchen Combo is now called a "Great Room". So I don't have a wall behind where my couch is. To the left of the couch (if you're sitting on it) is large windows, and to the right of the couch is a hallway that leads to the other rooms. So since I have a window on one side and nothing on the other side I'm lost to where I can place my Sonos speakers safely. Back up plan is getting a Speaker stand, but I really don't want to do that with cables and such lying around. So I'm thinking maybe I could mount them on the wall on either side. One side would have to be above the window where there is a gap between the window and ceiling

I have a Samsung 60” 4K connected to my PC (sound Realtek HD) and use it for everything (music, movies, games). I recently bought a Sonos 5.1 system without properly knowing or researching about formats... I have an optical audio output in DTS format that my sonos system will not read. Is there any software or hardware solution to Output DD directly or convert the DTS to DD? I have a sense that this question has been made numerous times, but the answers I found direct to give up on the 5.1 because PC is not the main use of the system. If I do not get a solution, I will return the Sonos and get a Bose 700 or whatever you recommend. Hopefully there is a solution. Would a sonos connect do the trick? Any cheaper solution? Thanks!!

Hi, I need advice to select the best sound card to conect my custom built PC with the Sonos 5.1 system i have. I have an optical switcher with which i connect my TV, my PS4 and my PC to Sonos. I use the PC connected to the TV to watch movies, shows, play videogames and stream music. Ideally, almost all sounds in my livingroom will come from my PC. Thanks

After smashing my head for weeks, I finally got 5.1 from my PC to my Sonos Beam and surrounds. This was very confusing because there is no direct way to troubleshoot where the problem is coming from. But, ultimately I was able to do it. SOLUTION: I bought a Dolby Digital - Sound Blaster X-FI USB device from MicroCenter and bypassed my videocard's audio. The Beam is hooked to the SB Pro (X-FI) via the optical chord it came with. It was a super old device, I don't think they make it anymore. Thank goodness the guy I spoke to was as passionate about audio as much as I was. Turns out my PC board didn't have enough ports to upgrade the soundcard internally, so I couldn't do it that way, but this guy was a godsend. No need to upgrade, usb works fine. *After you install the soundcard you still have to switch your default audio to SPDIF -Out (SB Pro), by default it won't be this. There you go, month's of research and here's the solution. Hope this helps someone.
