Every home automation company I have talked to is advising against the idea of using Sonos with a projector at all.  I would like to make it work in order to avoid paying for Savant/Control 4, and so I can have it work with all of the other Sonos speakers I plan on having around the house.  What is the best way to go about this?  My plan is below, will it work? Epson 5050ub is connected to Apple TV 4k via HDMI.  Apple TV connected to Sonos 5.1 (playbar, sub, 2 back speakers for surround) via Airplay or optical (using adapter at Apple TV). Based on what I have seen on here, I believe this should work.  What do you think?  Is there a better way?  Is Airplay or optical better for this application? Thanks!

My beam has stopped working on my Samsung tv. I can play music from iPhone ok. I tried using a new hdmi cable but that didn’t help. The anynet + is switched on on my tv. I haven’t done anything different & it just stopped working. What can I do? 

Hi I have had my sonos beam since the launch in denmark, and are quite glad for the "wireless" surround i can have to my play:1 as rear speaker. however, it annoys me in my setup that i have to use my "build in" plex / netflix app on my samsung TV to get 5.1 signal output. Whenever i use netflix app / plex on the shield, The sonos Beam only plays stereo My setup is: TV: Samsung UE49KS7005 Nvidia Shield newest 16gb version Sonos Beam+2play:1 rear speaker. Cable: HDMI ARC between TV and beam Shield connected to HDMI port on samsung HDMI input. When ever i play Netflix, plex movies on the build in app on my TV, the sound is decoded fine to Dolby digital 5.1 everything i play through shield is stereo. is there no solution to this i have tryed to force surround output on shield, etc. triet some "PCM" and "Bitstream" setting on samsung TV sound-setting, but always stereo only. unless i find a plex movie, that has AC5.1 standard. then its surround but it wount

I have an old Philips PF9731 TV without HDMI ARC or optical audio out. Will a Sonos Beam work when using a HDMI Switcher with Audio Extractor with the following connections: Cable box and DVD player connected to HDMI In on Switchbox TV connected to HDMI Out from Switchbox SPDIF Out from Switchbox connected to Beam (using the optical adapter that comes with it) If this doesn’t work, any other suggestions?

We are new users of Sonos.  We have a set of Play 1’s and a Beam. Which is the best way to tune our surround sound based on what we have? Using Trueplay or should we use EQ? Thanks for any input.

When I turn my TV on, no sound comes through the playbar. I previously found a help topic that said to unplug all HDMI devices and plug back in making sure the PLaybar is first. This works to fix the immediate problem, but I have to take these steps everytime the TV is turned on. Is there a way to force the playbar to keep a permanent connection to the TV?

Set Beam up in December 2019 added 2 x One SL’s yesterday. All three units successfully grouped together as ‘Lounge’. Beam has been brilliant, Have introducing left and right hand One SL’s placed on floor behind each end of settee. Can operate system volume from any of the units, however when Beam is at acceptable volume, we can not hear the 2 x One SL’s, although they are working when you get your ear very close to them. Also once I get volume working correctly, can I expect to get true surround sound, such as helicopter buzzing around the room etc. This is my very first post, look forward to some helpful replies - Thanks

I have my Xbox One X connected via HDMI to a Phillips 50PUS7304/12 TV, which is connected via optical audio to a Sonos Playbase. I want to keep the main audio to the Sonos from my TV for the movie apps on it like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video etc.. I don’t experience any audio lag when watching anything directly from my TV. If the Xbox audio output over the HDMI is set to stereo uncompressed it's absolutely fine, except that I want better than stereo. It won't accept being set to 5.1 or 7.1 uncompressed (for this I'm just assuming it's because the TV isn't really made to be a high-end audio receiver which is fair). If I set it to bitstream out, the Dolby DTS setting is accepted but no sound comes out (presumably because Sonos don’t support it), while the Dolby Digital and Dolby Atmos settings both have a noticeable lag (maybe up to a second). I have a projector (No ARC) HDMI audio extractor →  Optical to HDMI adapter →  Beam. Optical can support stereo Dolby Digital and Stereo PCM. I want to plug a laptop in it detect 5.1 sounds...not all channels play think it missing out front or something. I think it is sending out 6 uncompressed LPCM channels  Kodi on a fire stick works if i set it to 2 channel and Dolby digital transcoding. (If want to understand that message me) Making the laptop output to DD seems maybe impossible (I want this for games not movies) My question is in does the beam support 6 channel PCM over ARC,  So if i get something like this an “ARC sender” so I don’t need the optical adapter  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07T6CDPQJ/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza will it work?      

I’m planning to buy a Sub for my currently 5.0 setup (Beam and 2 Play 1s). The setup sounds very good but I feel like it’s missing the thumping bass of a subwoofer. I know that the sub is very expensive at 700$ but after the EoL announcement, I wonder how long the sub would be support by Sonos. IMO I think that the sub should be able to last longer than the playbar (same released date in 2012) because the sub doesn’t work alone without a speaker. So I think that the main music streaming is from the speaker itself like Ones, Play 5, Beam or Bar.  What do you think I should do in this situation? Thanks

Hello Everyone,  Although I believe I know the answer based on previous topics, I wanted to confirm with the community before purchasing anything else.    Here is my setup: I have: An Epson 1060 Projector (https://www.amazon.com/Epson-Cinema-brightness-speakers-projector/dp/B073S4TS4G) Roku Premier Streaming (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HDBZN7Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and Sonos Beam.  The roku is directly connected to the projector.    Am I correct in understanding I will need an HDMI Audio Extractor in order to play sounds from Roku. (This one for example. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BIQER0E/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A2IX3RNQE846HA&psc=1 )    I will connect the Roku > HDMI Audio Extractor > Beam in SPDFI output and projector in HDMI output.    Thank you for your help. 

I have tried to sort this multiple times but the dialogue that comes from the playbar is so hard to listen too, my wife now refuses to watch TV in the room with it!! music is great but you almost need to lip read if there is any background sounds going on   i have called tech support and submitted diagnostics but the sound is still poor, any ideas what to try - i am seriously thinking about purchasing something else   Andy

I have a Beam and two Sonos Ones, and my TV is Philips. If I set up my Playstation to use the "optical" for audio, there is no problem, but as soon as I turn it to HDMI--which is the real dolby one!--there is almost a one-second delay. Any ideas? it is really annoying. Thank you!

This thread is specifically for those who are trying to understand the Playbars 5.1 and DTS issues. As most of you know the Playbar does not convert DTS signal. It also will only convert 2.0 to SIMULATED PCM 5.1 signal. If you can live with the simulated signal, then you are ahead of the game. IF you want PURE unadulterated 5.1 from your DirecTV or Cable, you WILL most likely have to buy a switch like this one. http://www.monoprice.com/products/7974 Or a Bluray converter like this one. http://www.oppodigital.com/blu-ray-bdp-103/ MOST tvs will not convert true 5.1. There are some on this thread that say they do, but most dont. I found this out the hard way by buying one of Samsungs highest end tv's, only to find out that 2.0 is all im ever gunna get. A $75 switch is a bargain IMO to have such sound to the Playbar the way it is intended. IF you want 1080p up convert video and and 5.1 audio, then a simular Bluray like the Oppo is for you. I have Samsung The Frame 55 (QN55LS03RAFXZA) and Sonos Beam. Im using the HDMI ARC port and the cable supplied with the Beam. It works fine, but sometimes the TV looses the connection to the Beam. The setup is: the TV can detect that there is a HDMI connected speaker but the sound comes from the TV and I cannot chance volume (nothing happens when I push the buttons on the remote even if the screen shows + and -) Are there known problems with Samsung TVs and HDMI ARC ports using The Beam?

I know this has been beat to death a bit, but maybe this is a bit different.  We got a TCL 65R625.  We have a Sonos Playbase.  We set up the TV, went through the Sonos App as always, Volume up, detected...Volume up three times, good.  Volume down three times...good.  Mute...good.  Sweet, that was easy.  Roku Remote working perfectly with Playbase.   The TCL batteries that came with TV ran out.  Switch batteries in Roku remote, and Playbase would not respond.  Went through process again, and now the playbase won’t detect the Roku remote.  So it WAS working perfectly.  Now it cannot.  I called Sonos and after 25 minutes of “ok, hold please…..thanks for holding...try this...nope...ok...hold please….thanks for holding...try this” I gave up.  Using old Samsung remote works fine, but would love to just have Roku remote if anyone has experienced this.   Again, it DID work for the first few days.  Now it won’t.   THank you!  

Hey everyone - I've been trying to fix an issue with volume control with my new Sonos Playbar for weeks to no avail. I've tried a LOT of different things, but nothing has stuck yet. I'm reaching out to this community to see if you guys to ask for help and to see if you have thought of something that I haven't. I'll try to keep it brief. THE PROBLEM: I can't reliably control the volume of my Sonos Playbar with my Samsung ONE Remote. What I mean by "reliably" is that I have figured out a way to fix this issue, but the fix lasts only for about 24 hours. After that, I have to re-fix the issue again. It is very annoying. THE CYCLE: I reset my Samsung TV back to factory settings. I then, set up my Samsung TV remote to control the volume on my Sonos Playbar using the steps outlined in Sonos's FAQ here: https://support.sonos.com/s/article/3444?language=en_US . Hi Guys, I would like to purchase a Amazon Fire Stick 4K here in Singapore. This is my setup: Samsung Smart TV (2015) with Sonos playbar in living room Samsung Smart TV (2015) with Sonos beam in master bedroom   I currently have NO problems running any of the videos on the Prime Video app and the Netflix app through my Sonos. However, I want to purchase the Amazon Fire Stick 4K for a more  “one-screen-see-all-apps” experience. And also because I would like to access Apple TV+ and DIsney+ for my kids.   Could someone PLEASE advice me on the following: Can I ditch my TV remote? I.e. Can the Amazon Fire Stick 4K remote control my SONOS speakers and TV, or would I still continue to operate this speakers and TV using the TV remote? I understand IR control would be required. Hi - sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn’t find this specific question. I want to evaluate whether it is possible to use the HDMI input of a Sonos Port to transmit the audio from a HDMI input, such as a Blu-ray player, to my Beam (and potentially two rear speakers). Specifically, we have a projector setup with all video devices in the back of the room (projector, multiple input devices such as a Blu-ray player, set-top-box, etc, and a HDMI switch to toggle between inputs). This also includes a HDMI splitter, with identical signals running to the projector (back of the room) and to the Sonos Beam (front of the room). So far so good, works flawlessly. The thing is, this cable running to the front of the room is really bothering us. Would it be possible to -- instead of running it to the Beam directly -- have it go into a Sonos Port in the back of the room, which then transmits it to the Beam? As the signal is already digital, it should work with little latency, right? And w

So, I want to setup a surround sound system using a LG soundbar and LG Subwoofer. The soundbar plugs into the TV using an optical cable, and the sounbar connects wirelessly to the LG subwoofer. On the soundbar there is an HDMI out which I was thinking about connecting into the Sonos Amp that I am going to buy to 2 ceiling speakers (I am using the Connect:Amp atm for some ceiling speakers) into the HDMI out on the soundbar so that I can connect my ceilling speakers to the soundbar and subwoofer, but if I do this will sourround sound still work? 

I have Foxtel IQ4 connected via HDMI to my TV (Samsung RU7100) I connect my TV to the Playbar Via optical cable. When I select AC3 (Dolby) audio output on the Foxtel there is a noticeable delay is the audio, if I select PCM there is no delay. I plugged the optical cable directly to the Playbar from the Foxtel and the lip sync issue was fixed. So clearly there is a delay created when through the TV. Has anyone had this problem and found a solution? Well a better solution than having to unplug and plug the optical cable from Foxtel to TV and back again depending on what I want to watch…..

Hi, I will give you a summary of my setup. I have a TV (Samsung NU7100) installed on a wall in the living room. From there (wall on which the TV is hang), many cat6 cables run through the walls to the mechanical room in the basement. I also have 5 speakers (2 in the back: L and R; and 3 in the front: L, C and R) and a sub in the living room. All the audio cables and the optical cable (for the subwoofer) run in the walls and end in the mechanical room downstairs. In the mechanical room, I have an amplifier (Onkyo TX-NR686), a TV receiver (Shaw Direct) and a Sonos Connect. The TV receiver is connected to the TV through HDMI, but over cat6. So there is a HDMI cable in the mechanical room that's connected to the TV receiver and to an HDMI balun. From there, a cat6 cable is connected to that balun and is also connected to a HDMI balun in the living room. On the other end of that balun is a HDMI cable that is finally connected to the TV. Hi all, I just purchased a Sonos Beam for our new apartment. Next, we’re buying a projector and really like the LG CineBeam PF50KS for its size and affordability. However, I have a concern about the connectivity between these devices as the LG doesn’t seem to have wireless connectivity and the Sonos doesn’t have bluetooth. I need to know if it’s possible to connect my laptop (Apple Macbook Pro) to the projector via HDMI for visual only, while simultaneously connecting the laptop to the Sonos Beam via Airplay (wireless) for audio only?   Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated!

I have a Samsung TV with sonos beam and 2x Plays for my surround set up.   Everything worked fine until I purchased a Manhattan T3 freeview box. Now when i turn on my TV and watch TV on the freeview box, my sonos sound doesn’t connect immediately. It takes about 40mins and then all of a sudden it will then switch from TV sound to the Sonos surround.   I have my TV set to the HDMI sound output by default. The sonos beam is plugged in to the HDMI / ARC port. When i switch on the TV and Freeview box, i try to manually change from TV speakers to the HDMI sound output, but it doesnt find it. I also go to the sonos app and try to connect, and it states no connection from the HDMI/ARC.   I have also tried turning off TV from sockets, unplugging all devices from HDMI ports and pluggin them back in. I have also reset the beam, deleted from app, but still problem is there. Please help
