Amazon Alexa and Sonos

Is it possible to use both Google Assistant and Alexa with the following setup:- Sonos Arc (Alexa) + Sonos Sub + Sonos One (Google) + Sonos One SL (all paired) 

Hi. Have Amazon music connected to my Sonos. When I ask Sonos to play something the Sonos speaker confirms this “playing your play list” for instance but nothing happens and no music is played !! I switched over to my Spotify account and exactly the same thing happens (playing music from Spotify) but again I get no music. I can select music from my phone app and play it through all the speakers via Amazon music or Spotify I just can’t get it to play music via voice commands. Any ideas as it is driving me crazy !!! 

Hello all, as you all may already know Alexa cant speak out voice notifications like it can with any Amazon Alexa device. I have seen a lot forum posts asking why they cant hear their Ring motion and doorbell notifications and for the longest time ever those notifications never worked with Sonos. Well as of last night my Sonos One speakers started blurting out motion detections and doorbell presses. I cant find any release notes about this anywhere, has anyone noticed this too? I also noticed with Alexa routines if you had an Alexa response she would say “Alexa voice responses are not compatible with this device” now she doesn’t and voice responses work just fine with routines. Hopefully this isn't a fluke bug.

Hello to Everyone!I have recently bought a Beam, wich works properly with Sonos S2 app, it is ARC connected to a Sony TV, but I just can’t integrate Alexa in the Sonos S2 app, which - when I try to add Alexa - always returns, that this service is not available in my country (Hungary). Although, I have set up the ios Alexa app on my iPhone, with a Hungarian address, and Alexa seamlessly discovered the Beam. I can also give voice commands within the Alexa app (just as if I would talk to Siri on my iPhone, of course, in English) - and Alexa executes them properly, but the Sonos S2 app doesn’t allow me to add Alexa. I have linked my Sonos profile to Alexa, within the Alexa app, also. This means, everything works from the Amazon side, but the Sonos app doesn’t allow me to add Alexa, because of territory restrictions. Certainly, I would not like to create a new Apple ID with a fake US or UK address, just to be able to add Alexa to the Sonos app, because I’ve read, that is possible.Could you

Alexa routines work fine to play music from one Sonos speaker or let Alexa say things like the time on a given speaker. But I cannot get this to work multi-room. The Alexa announcement feature is meant to let Alexa say something on all speakers, and it indeed works across Sonos and Echo Dot when activated by voice command – but not if I activate an announcement through an Alexa routine (although I can select Sonos and Amazon devices here).Has anyone been able to make this work?Thanks!

I feel that the volume of Alexa’s voice should be able to be set independently from the Sonos volume. For me, it is too hard to here her voice over the sound coming out of the Sonos speakers. Thoughts?

I am very dissapointed to see that the New Sonos 5 does NOT have voice recognition built in. As a family of 5 people who all use my current Sonos Play 5 Gen 1 using an Amazon Echo Input which is plugged into the Play 5 via the 3.5mm Jack lead to talk to the speaker. I currently am subscribed to Amazon Music HD family plan. I would like to upgrade my Sonos Play 5 for the New Sonos 5 but I am struggling to justify the price for an upgrade which would simply enable me to use the new S2 app on my smartphone. I feel that the rough cost to upgrade (£400+) for this speaker is a lot of money for not much gain. This is why I was so disappointed that the Sonos 5 doesn’t even have voice recognition built in! 😳 I don’t buy the argument that music boffs prefer the item without this option as surely if the product is simply made with voice recognition built in, the customer using the product simply has the option to either turn this facility On Or Off. I have Alexa working on my Sonos System (Arc, Sub Gen 3, 2x Sonos One).  But there is an issue.  Alexa can’t hear you unless you shout at it or are inches away from the Arc if music is playing or if there is any background noise.  Literally you need to say Alexa five times, eventually shouting it to get it to listen.  It’s driving my family crazy, as our old system with an Echo Dot worked great. Is there a fix for this, or can I move the default Alexa from the Arc to a Sonos One?  The Sonos One is more in the center of the room, and may hear better.

Hi, I've got a system both s1 and s2 compatible. I'm wondering whether I should upgrade? My system is as follows: Bedroom: Play5 (1st gen) (not S2 compatible) Living room: playbar + 2x sonos one (2nd gen) - this is set up as surround 5.0 for my TVSonos boost - to create separate network for all sonos products   Now my question is:1) what are my benefits to upgrade to S2 for living room which is S2 applicable and keeping bedroom as S1. 2)Also is it possible to setup Alexa in living room on sonos one, when the system is set up as surround. This is not possible for S1 and I wasn't able to find an answer if that's possible for S2  Thank you in advance for your help 

I recently installed a Sonos 1 in my office, I have 6 speakers in my home. I enabled the alexa feature and asked her to play a song ( I have amazon music), the respone I continue to get is “hmm...to do this you must enable the skill in the alexa app and then ask me to discover devices”. The speaker is set-up in the alexa app and the songs skill is enabled. The speakers I have at home still work as they should, any idea what would remedy this? 

The sonos app says that Alexa or the google voice assistant are not available in my region. I’m in the Cayman Islands.  Is there another option or have I just bought the wrong product?  

I recently updated to the Sonos 2 app and upgraded the firmware in all my speakers. I have a move, beam, and 2 play:1s.  Now when I ask Alexa to play a station on pandora it plays one song and then stops.  Also, if a song is playing and I want to thumbs up or skip the song, alexa will say nothing is playing.  This all worked prior to the new app and firmware.

Whenever I ask my Sonos Beam to play music using, “Alexa, shuffle songs by the McGuire Sisters” and later stop the music with “Alexa, stop”, I’ve noticed that the Beam will be in Muted state and cannot be unmuted verbally. I must manually grab the remote for my connected Roku TV and raise the Volume from 0 to 40.For example, say I’m watching YouTube on the full-HDMI connected Roku TV (TCL brand with CEC enabled), using my HP PC’s web browser. I hear audio fine at the expected Volume level (40). I then listen to a random song via Alexa – the Sonos/Roku volume remains 40 – then ask it to stop, as outlined above. Music ceases playing, as expected. Resuming the paused YouTube video, however, results in no sound! Volume level is now 0 (but never actively displayed on-screen as such).Saying, “Alexa, volume 4”, or pressing the PC’s up-vol button on the keyboard (I realize that’s a separate volume setting, but I want to assure readers here that it’s at max. vol.), doesn’t help. Hi all, Looking for some help, maybe someone has had a similar issue.I have a Sonos One in the living room that when i ask to play music using the alexa function it plays on my office speaker too. Even if i specify “play xxx in the living room” it still plays in the office. The speaker in the office is the older Play 1.  I’ve ungrouped them on the app, thinking that might be the problem ( the last time used may have been as a pair/group so it continues) but as soon as i used another voice command in the living room on the Sonos One, it was back to playing on both. Just wondered what i might be missing. Short of resetting everything and starting fresh i’m not sure what to do! ThanksPaul

I’ve got a Sonos Arc connected to my LG GX via HDMI ARC. I’m using Amazon Alexa for voice control via the Arc.When saying “Alexa, turn off TV” the Arc flips the current power state, while “Alexa, turn on TV” works correctly. In other words:TV is off, say “Alexa, turn off TV”, TV turns on TV is on, say “Alexa, turn off TV”, TV turns off TV is off, say “Alexa, turn on TV”, TV turns on TV is on, say “Alexa, turn on TV”, TV stays onThe one I underlined is unexpected behavior. Instead I expect the power to stay off. I have a routine when I leave home to turn off all the lights and devices in my house. So instead this often turns on my TV unexpectedly.

So a fan of Sonos, I brought voice controlled music via Alexa to my system, thanks to a ZP100 Connect. Amazing setup, and brought the flexible ability of inputting other music devices and Bluetooth into my Sonos system, no longer was I locked in by the app and my phone (or PC), and there was nothing I could not play over my Sonos System - TV, youtube, Alexa, iPlayer anything . It worked a charm….only now, all my Sonos Connects are moving to EoLI wanted to reduce my devices (each room with an Alexa/echo, connect and 2 speakers, so swapping a Connect for a new Sonos One seemed like the answer, I shed an Alexa device and a Sonos connect ….just lose the ability to input other music but how horribly wrong am I.Now, I have a Sonos One and a Play 1 next to each other, and I cannot pair them….rubbish meeting of my expectations but ok.Plan B: just Group them together and sacrifice the fidelity you seem to get with a pairing…..WRONG….my previous setup with the Connect, I could shout “Alexa, Turn

I have an Ikea Symfonisk Bookshelf as stereo pair and a Symfonisk lamp.I have set up the Alexa skill and I can ask Alexa to play on the Sonos speakers.However, I want to define my Sonos speakers as preferred speakers for the room in Alexa.When I want to select the Sonos speaker it always says “not compatible” the same for my Lamp in the other room.I have removed the skill and added it again, no avail. All apps (Sonos, Alexa) and all speakers, iPhone, and Alexas up to date.What gives? 

Hi, is there any other way to control local music library with Alexa than installing MyMedia app to computer? MyMedia works great otherwise, but downside is that computer must be running with MyMedia server app. It would be great if Alexa could control local music library without any third party application! Just like it control eg. Spotify or any web-based music service now. If there is no other way, I address this message to Sonos developers. Maybe in future we can see this feature on Sonos and Alexa!  

Is there a voice command to start playing the TV audio to multiple rooms/speakers? I can get my Beam (and attached Sub) to switch its input back to TV by voice, but I want it to be playing in another room as well. I can set this up via the app, but am really going for voice control. Ideally, this would be a single command (so I can give it a shorthand as a Routine) but if it takes two, so be it.Relatedly, is there a good way to redirect what’s playing in one room/group to another/all by voice? (That would make it easy to do in two commands.)I just switched to Alexa from Google because it feels a bit better integrated with Sonos (group support, etc), but would be curious about both honestly. 

Hi, I’ve had the in-built Alexa feature on the Beam for a couple of months and even if it’s not too bad, I don’t think the mics are as good as my Echo.  She misunderstands commands too often, for example last time I said “play the tv” she understood “play Disney” and started playing a random Disney song.It’s infuriating as it happens very often and I always have to switch the input from music back to TV. When I listen back to the Alexa audio recordings in the Alexa app History, that’s how I know she gets the commands wrong and the playback sounds very muffled. I’m not surprised she gets confused, the mics don’t seem that good. I live in a small-sized living room sitting about 3m away from the Beam, on a tv stand below ear level.Now what I’m looking for is turn off Alexa on the Beam but keep the ducking function as I quite like it and it’s the only reason I’m not using the Echo, because with the TV playing in the background it can’t hear commands well.The other day I came to know it's p

Alexa volume is too loud and does not respond to normal volume control. Even if music is is at its lowest level, Alexa still sounds like it is at 10. This is bizarre. Can't use this device with other people are resting or sleeping anywhere in our small house.  When will this be fixed? 

I apologise but this is a bit if a rant. For months and months we have been getting a persistent error with Alexa saying Spotify device off line when ever you try and use a voice command. You can manually play it to the Sonos 1 via Spotify but the voice command simply does not work. I should say this used to work correctly with issue what so ever. We have tried everything from every forum. Complete reset upNaming conventionsVoice actions ensuring Spotify is online in the app  You name it we have tried it, to me Alexa has con backwards . you wont get any help or support from Amazon and to me the product is now not fit for purpose. The rest of my extensive sonos speakers work perfectly. Please please please get this fixed 

Hello,I am actually building my new house, and planning its sound system.I plan to use an Amp linked to the TV as input, and obviously some speakers. I already own a NAS (Synology 216 Play) which stores my movies and music.As I understand, I might be able to use the Amp as output for my music library inside the NAS, using the S2 app?But here is another question that I cannot answer for now : my family has gifted us an Amazon Echo (we do not have it yet thanks to the lockdown), can I use it with the Sonos S2 app? It seems that the Amazon Alexa app cannot use the NAS as a library (not directly), and as I plan to pilot everything with the S2 app, it would be nice to keep this Echo speaker.  thanks a lot for your tips!

I’m very curious about Sonos Radio HD… I would definetly consider subscribing to it however i never ever use the app to get my music … I always use voice to request for music and this is a must have for me to subscribe…  so my question is can i have Alexa use Sonos Radio as my music service or do  I always have to use the app ?
