Amazon Alexa and Sonos

I’ve had a Sonos + Alexa going on for a good time. It works normally quite well and most issues in recent few years have been about Alexa. Yeah, Sonos speakers tend to take the command (my outside speaker replies when I speak 20cm from my Kitchen Echo Show) that’s meant for devices with a display, but I’ve come to understand I should only execute commands and not really expect an answer, so that’s fine.. But I’ve noticed recently a growing problem of not finding what I want to play with the Sonos app. With Alexa I can just say “Alexa, play dreamy edm” and it chooses a channel and plays something. Surprisingly often it chooses right and I’m happy with whatever comes out of the speakers. But there are situations when I want to use the app instead of voice commands, say during past week Alexa has always stopped playing music after one song no matter what album playlist or station I ask it to play. I figured out how to make a speaker group in the Sonos app, the only issue is when I ask Alexa to change the volume, it only changes it for the one that was activated using Alexa. I tried making a group in the Alexa app combining the speakers into one, but nothing happens.

Known bug (on Sonos support page) that with the March 14, 2024 Alexa App and Sonos 1 app updates, Alexa voice does not work on the Sonos One (Gen 1) speakers. When I look at devices in the Alexa app it says my 2 Sonos One speakers are unresponsive and offline. I’ve tried to clean out or log out of all apps to get my Sonos speakers to work with Alexa without success but have further data to support that the latest Alexa app (updated 3/14/2024) is recognizing my Sonos One FIRST Edition speakers as SECOND Edition speakers and that explains why they are not working. See screen shot below of my devices in the Alexa app for that corroboration.i tried to email this to Sonos (support@sonos.com) but got a reply saying that address is not monitored. How to set up alexa?

I have registered my amazon account for alexa on my sonos one, but every time i ask it which account it is in, it states it is in my wifes account ( who is a household member).I have disabled the skill, deregistered the sonos one and then set up alexa again using my amazon account, yet when i ask again which account it is in alexa says its in my wifes account!?!The odd thing is when i have set up my beam using my amazon account, alexa on my beam says i am on my account (not my wifes), doing this in parallel, my sonos one always says its in my wifes account and when i ask it to swap accounts it says it can’t do that, all very frustrating.The only thing that seems left to me, is to remove my wife from my household amazon profile, but then i can’t add her back in for 180 days. Any suggestions from anyone.

Hello Community!I’ve lately just noticed Arc is calling spectrum.s3.amazonaws.com every 5 minutes 24/7. Since then I’ve just blocked this host on my AdGuard dns and to my surprise Alexa is working just fine. I have a few other Echo devices and none of them is calling this host. WTH Sonos?

Every day for the past few months, the first time I ask Alexa a question that she has to go to the internet for, she responds “Sorry, something went wrong”. We have 2 users setup and this happens per user. for example, this sequence, all when we wake up:Person1: Alexa, how old are you? OK Until I bought a second Beam, a Gen 2, mid-March 2024 I never had this happen. I always had Alexa active on my Beam G1 and I put it on the G2 as well. To be honest I can’t remember if the Alexa Sonos Skill was always enabled before I bought the Beam G2 and added Alexa to it. Up until now I was able to ask my echo speaker to play a stream such as a radio Station, IHeart or other skill that streams audio; and it would play it on the same device I was talking to. Now it sends it to Sonos automatically. Can I turn this off? Most of the time I like it; would like it better as part of a command only not as a default. Thanks

Bought my Arc, Sub Gen3 and 2 ERA100’s new in December ‘23. Set them up and have had zero trouble since then. Until now.While streaming shows the Alexa voice randomly interrupts. When this happens the green LED in the center of the ARC comes on, the sounds drops down and Alex’s voice is heard either asking a question or making a statement as if someone said the Alexa wake word. This started about 2 weeks ago. Some times it is once every 10mins or so but then sometimes it is rapid fire, one after the other. There are only two people in a single family house and neither of us say anything nor touch or phones when it happens. Your assistance is appreciated. 

Title should read - Alexa Stopped Working on Beam 1Alexa on my Beam Gen 1 has recently stopped workng.  Still works fine on my Beam Gen 2, ERA300 and Roam.I have hard reset the Beam and readded to Sonos and Alexa which it completes successfully and Alexa tells me it’s setup and ready to use.When I give Alexa a command it does not respond.  There is no white light dot above the microphone button on the Beam and repeated pressing of the mic button does not turn it on, however it does change tone on each press.It’s as if the microphone is disabled and I have no way to turn it on.Any suggestions would be great as it’s getting very frustrating now. I should have mentioned.  I am using the S2 app and have been doing for several years now.I have deregistered voice services on the Beam and also the Sonos skills in the Alexa app and then reregisted.  Everything I have tried so far has not been successful. Moderator edit: combined posts

Hello—we just replaced an echo device with an Era 100. We added our apple music account via the sonos app and are able to ask for music using ‘hey sonos’, but are unable to ask Alexa for music. As far as I can tell tell the apple music and Pandora skills are (still) enabled in the alexa app, however anytime my family tries to ask Alexa to play something, the speaker tells us that the skill needs to be enabled in the alexa app. We were previously able to do this on the echo… Is there something I’m doing wrong here? We could adjust to saying ‘Hey Sonos’, but everyone is used to shouting to ‘Alexa’ and frankly I don’t want to use separate voice assistants for timers, etc. and a different one for music.

Hi all. First time poster…. I have a combination of Sonos One’s, Play 1’s and Move’s as well as playbase and sub around the house. When I group all speakers together and use Alexa to play music (via Apple Music) it used to play on all speakers which were already grouped together in the Sonos App but now it only seems to play on selected speakers (the Sonos One’s and Moves but not the Play 1’s and Playbase and Sub). Is there a reason for this? The speakers still remain grouped in the app and if I stop music via Alexa and press play on the app it comes out of all the speakers. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello!  It used to be super easy with Sonos 1 app and Alexa to hook my Amazon Echo's to Sonos, but with S2, it's unclear.  There are at least three different ways online, none of which work.  Anyone have an idea of how to control Sonos via an Echo Show (not an Alexa-enabled Sonos speaker)?  Thanks!

I am using the S1 app for my Sonos speakers.  Recently my voice enabled Sonos speakers are not working with Alexa.  I can control my speakers in the S1 app but not with Alexa.When I look at the Alexa app the voice enabled Sonos speakers are showing offline.I have disabled and re-enabled Sonos Skill in Alexa Alexa does not find any devices when I re-enabled Sonos skill in the Alexa app I have removed and added Alexa voice enable to each speaker I have powered off and on the speakersDid something change?

Over the past couple or months or so, I have been experiencing a response along the lines “Sorry, something went wrong” from an ERA-100 device in bedroom, with the first command. The second command works fine. I have 2 Era 100 paired as stereo. When I play a single song on my Alexa app on my Sonos, it keeps on playing after the single song, how can I stop it from doing that. I already set my Alexa setting’s “AutoPlay” and “Amazon Music’s” autoplay to both disabled and still doing it on Sonos. Very frustrating.

I have 2 Sonos Era 100 paired as stereo.  The sleep timer on Alexa is not working on Era 100. I have a an Alexa routine that play music for 10 minutes in the morning on my Sonos but the timer is not working, it keeps on playing continuously until I click on “End Session” on the Sonos app. Very frustrating. I’m contemplating is will just return them and stick with my Amazon Echo’s.

I often play vinyl through my multiple Sonos speakers, using my Connect.Is there an Alexa command to tell Sonos to play the input from a Sonos device? I'm finding it increasingly tiresome that you have to get the app out for so much with Sonos! Very boring. I would love a dedicated instantly-on remote on the wall for volume, next, playlists, input etc.   

I have a Sonos one with Alexa and Google. I am not getting a voice from Alexa….I have switched to try Goole and this works ok…..Have turned the Sonos one off for about 5mins , turned it back on ...and no response to my voice.I have tried reconnectig it to no avail….the light on top off the speaker flashes when I speak a command ….then nothing Anyone any Ideas…??

Allnof a sudden i can’t control music via Alexa voice commands.  It’s been working fine for years across my 8 sonos One Gen2’s.   now i say “play The Beatles” and it just tells me i need to install the skill for my Sonos One. If i say “play beatles on Spotify” or “play music on Pandora” - same thing.   Of course i uninstalled and re-installed all the skills (Sonos, Spotify, Amazon Music, Pandora” - made no difference.  all other Alexa commands still work fine (weather, home device control, etc). And i can play music thru the Sonos speakers using the Pandora, Spotify or Sonos apps no problem.  Only voice control via Alexa has died.  Sonos Voice Control works fine by the way.  It’s just Alexa.  anyone else?

Hi guys, I am sure you are aware of the problem regarding the issue with Alexa compatible Sonos Speakers not responding to commands via the Alexa Sonos Skill App.I have 2 Beams and a One. All three speakers were working perfectly with Alexa until approximately one week ago, and now they aren't. There is absolutely no response from any of the speakers or Alexa once a command has been given. I have been through the processes suggested on line and wasted a significant amount of my own time trying to rectify what appears to be a problem with Sonos or the Alexa Skill App, however the problen still remains. I spent a lot of money on these speakers as one of the main requirements I wanted was connectivity with the speakers and Alexa thus enabling me to control my other smart devices such as lights,  plugs etc. This has been going on now for around a week. Can you provide information to the Sonos community as to what is being done to rectify this problem.RegardsTom

Normally I would think Alexa on the Arc would be a cool feature, but unfortunately it’s driving us crazy!!  The microphone on my Sonos arc can pick up a whisper across the house. We have an open floor plan and an Alexa speaker in the kitchen, but when we are in the kitchen and ask it a question or to play music or NPR, we get an answer from the Family Room Arc. Usually along the lines of “I don’t have that functionality“.  Since we are speaking to the kitchen echo, I don’t want the Arc responding. We have the same problem when we ask Alexa to turn on the kitchen lights. [Upstairs, where we have echoes in every room, and even in the thermostat, we have no problem requesting a light be turned on or off.] But on our main floor when we request the kitchen lights be turned on, they flash on and off as the two devices respond simultaneously. That’s probably TMI. Regardless, we need to turn off Alexa in our Sonos Arc. Any help or directions in accomplishing this would be appreciated!

Hello all,Alexa on my beam was working perfectly then just stopped one day. I've tried all the basics restart routers, turned off/on the beam, deregiatered it from Alexa app still no luck.The Alexa app shows the beam offline and I can't solve this.The speaker works fine with my TV audio and through the Sonos app for Spotify etc but any Alexa functions no joy.Any suggestions? Thanks
