Advanced setups

Hi All, I'm looking for an alternative to a current speaker setup which integrate for work - Clipsal Ceiling Bluetooth speakers. The issue I have is constant dropouts and hardware hangs. Clipsal won't comment on the issue even though we've purchased over 200 speakers via our vendor from them. I'm looking for alternatives and the Play 1's may be a decent fit for my setup, although, I have questions before I run a test site. Our sites are early learning schooling sites which have anywhere between 5-10 rooms at each campus. Currently each room has an iPad kiosk which I have connected to a Synology NAS running DSAudio. iPads are connected to the Clipsal Bluetooth Ceiling speakers and audio is pushed from the NAS to the iPad to the Speakers. With the connectivity issues we are experiencing I'm looking for an alternative to bluetooth and the Sonos Play 1 may fit the requirements. Our environment is the following at each site:

I'm am trying to understand how SonosNet works with ethernet connected devices. I have recently been experiencing dropouts from local NAS & Spotify. I think I have found the issue, but hoping someone with more experience can clarify if my understanding is correct, after looking at logs on router. Lets say there are 2 players, 1E (connected to Ethernet), 2S (connected via SonosNet/wireless to 1E) If I start Spotify on player 2S, I can see this player (via IP address in my router) streaming from Spotify, so this must be connecting via 1E to the router, plays OK. If I then group player 1E to the 2S player, player 1E sometimes drops. I can see that player 2S is still streaming on router. So it seems the data is flowing from router --> 1E --SonosNet--> 2S --SonosNet--> 1E, is that correct? If I start streaming from 1E then add 2S to group I dont get drop outs. I have three Play 1 speakers and one Play 5 speaker in my system. I have had no communication problems in the past with all 4 of them. Today, I cannot connect to one of my Play 1 speakers through my app on my iPhone. When I try to play music through it the error message "Unable to connect to Sonos player" appears. I CAN play music through my PC on this speaker. I have tried unplugging the speaker to reset the connection without success. Can someone guide me in the direction to fix this connection? I am on a Bridge connection, which I have also reset without success.

I'm trying to play some FLAC files on my SONOS system and I get the error message: "unable to play ..... it is encoded at unsupported sample rate 9600 hz" I've never seen this error message before. Does this mean the end of the road or is there a work around? Could I re-digitize them at a different sample rate because my other FLAC files play fine. Maybe SONOS has plans to change their specs or is it the old debate about whether the human ear can appreciate the difference in quality or not? Any help would be appreciated as I'm new to this game.

In my basement, I have 4 speakers - all of them are ATOS Storm A62ST speakers that are dual voice coil. Each speaker has 4 wires coming from the back of it, wired to a central location... so 16 wires in total... is it possible to attach all 4 of these speakers (and, of course, all 16 wires) to a single Sonos Connect:AMP? I know the Sonos site says 4, 8 ohm speakers can be connected, but does the fact that each speaker is dual voice coil with 4 wires each mean that I can only have two of these on a single Connect:AMP? Hi I have a Cisco layer 3 switch (Catalyst 3560) and a wireless LAN that uses a Cisco LAN Controller (WLC 2504) and AP1042 access points. I have connected the Sonos components to the wired LAN on the same subnet as a computer with my music library, and it is able to connect to the Sonos components. However, I am unable to get my iOS devices on the WiFi network (same subnet) to connect to the Sonos components. I have enabled multicast on the WLC, and added the multicast group address 239.255.255.250 that I found on forum number 27459. (The iOS AppleTV Remote app started working when I enabled multicast, so there's some indication that it's working generally.) Does anyone have experience with this that you could share? Are there other configuration parameters--on the WLC or the switch--that need to be set? Thanks Bongo

Hey guys, We recently got a WiFi extender that re-broadcasts the same signal from the main WiFi router, but it is using a different SSID. Our Sonos speakers are all connected to the main WiFi router via standard setup(i.e. wirelessly via WiFi, not via a Boost/wired setup), so if a controller (e.g. an Android phone) is connected to the WiFi extender, it is unable to detect the Sonos speakers. Any ideas or tips on how to make such a setup work? We need the WiFi extender or something similar because the signal from the main WiFi router is very weak at certain spots in the house. We've also tried making the SSID and password the same for both the main WiFi router and the WiFi extender, but it just makes it a hit or miss at that point because the Android phone will list only one SSID, so you won't know which one it is -- router or extender. I suppose we can try a mesh router setup but that's a bit out of the budget at the moment.

Twice now I have woken up in the middle of the night to a thunderous sound. It sounds literally like thunder and a storm outside until I look out the window and see all is calm. Then I walk downstairs to the other side of the house where the kitchen is and as I approach there is a loud, thumping, thunderous sound - like hell itself - coming from the stereo pair of Play 5 speakers (gen 2). As far as I can tell, the volume is on full and the sound is so intense that both times I did not have the chance to check the app and see what the source was. I could not use the buttons on the top of the Play 5 to stop, I had to unplug both from the wall socket individually. Hi, My home network sits behind a Watchguard hardware Firewall (an XTM25). I have a Connect Amp that I want to use with Spotify and TuneInRadio. Following setup the device is not making itself available in Spotify and I am seeing the Watchguard deny a lot of traffic from the Connect Amp. Being a bit lazy as have done minimal investigation. But could anyone offer some advice as to the configuration changes I need to make to the Watchguard? Thanks!

Hi all, I am designing the LAN for a company. The whole network is separated in VLANs, for security reasons. The SONOS system is deployed on the same LAN than the WiFi connection of the office, which means every mobile connected to the WiFi is able to control the SONOS. Now, I have a computer which is in another VLAN that would need to control the SONOS. From a network point of view, everything is setup. I can ping every speaker from that computer, the routes have been setup. So, basically, I should be able to be connected to this SONOS System, but it looks like the automatic detection doesn't see the speakers. It would be nice if I could specify on which network I can reach the SONOS. How could I make this work? Thanks you so much in advance for your help, Louis

So I recently invested in the LG OLED55C7P, which is gorgeous. I can now run my individual HDMI sources (Cable, Apple TV 4K, Xbox One 😵 to the TV, and audio out through optical to the playbar and beyond. All was good for video and sound - 5.1 for each source, and I didn't need a splitter (I used the Octava before, with my old TV). In reading about Dolby Vision, etc., I saw that Apple recommended the Belkin Ultra High Speed HDMI cable. I saw conflicting opinions, but I wanted to use the best that I could, so I bought the cable and stuck it between the Apple TV and the TV. Boom - I started getting the 'Unsupported Audio' error in Sonos. I recycled power for everything, tweaked the TV audio output settings, tweaked the Apple TV audio output settings, and no luck. So, I swapped the good old HDMI cable back in, and life is fine. So my question is - does anyone have perspective on why this cable, which I'd assume would be backward compatible, would

I have just purchased a Reloop RP2000 turnable (with Pre Amp) and a Sonos Connect. I already have numerous Sonos speakers. I was told I can connect the turntable to my system through Connect as an input. But it seems to be treating my Connect device like another speaker and I can’t see the input from the turntable. Hello, I have my 3-unit Sonos system setup in boost mode. I have confirmed this by following the instructions here: https://sonos.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3453/~/how-to-check-if-sonos-is-in-a-standard-or-boost-setup With my system in Boost mode I expected to be able to see my Sonos network in the list of WiFi networks identified by WiFi scanning tools. However, I'm unable to see it. I don't necessarily expect it to have an obvious SSID but I've been able to ascribe other SSIDs (at least those with with strong signals in my home) to other sources. Can others see their Sonos network using WiFi scanning tools? If I should not be expecting to see it, could someone please explain why? (I thought SonosNet was just a dedicated WiFi network) I'm not having any problems with my system. I'm just asking this out of curiosity. Thanks FYI, I've tried the following WiFi scan

Hello, we currently use Sonos Play 1 in our company. One of our colleagues has premium Spotify and it plays well. However when that colleague is not at work and is privately listening to their spotify we cannot play music at the same time. I have now downloaded spotify on my phone but I cannot add my spotify to the Sonos app. I do not have Spotify premium however I do have music on my Iphone which won't allow me to view in the Sonos app all though I have allowed it in the settings.

How can one run different Sonos devices on separate networks in the same house? I have Sonos speakers in most rooms. But, I want to add a Playbase to a TV in another room, but not have it connected to the rest of my network. If I connect it to my Wifi, will it try to join up automatically? Do I need a separate Sonos account? It needs to see the internet to do updates or I would cut it off completely.

I got tired of waiting for Sonos to get around to release some kind of cast support (they have good reasons not to too). Before I began this was my wish list: Cast from android/iphone using chromecast, it should start automatically when I cast, have acceptable sound quality (I tried bluetooth with a similar setup but it sounded awful) and be relatively cheap. So, to the hardware: chromecast audio (I would recommend getting a normal chromecast and extract the audio - the one I got has some limitations), raspberry pi as transcoder (record output from chromecast and transform it into a mp3-stream that the sonos can handle) (and a USB sound card because the raspberry has no line-in (got a behringer UCA202 which is supported) Here is an image of the mess! :)

I have a pair of in-ceiling speakers and use a connect: Amp to play music from Sonos/Spotify. I also would like to purchase a Playbar for my television. Can I use the same sub to provide extra bass for both connections, the Playbar and the Connect:Amp? I would not want to use both connections at the same time but would like to have both connect to the sub for convenience.

I have a sonos speaker and a sonos device that is a white box that I got to hook up my bluetooth record player to. (I don't know the specific names/models because they don't say on the devices themselves! Seriously guys? Why would you not put that on the thing itself? I'm a MORON!!! ASSUME YOU ARE SELLING TO MORONS!!!) Anyway, the bluetooth thing has never worked very well, and has recently stopped working at all, and I want to just have wires making it happen. I have 10 Sonos through out the house. My family has 3 different iTunes accounts. Each has their own playists 😉 Is it possible to have Multiple iTune accounts running on one system so kids can play their music in their rooms, BUT - I can still group the whole house and light it up :-)))))

I am setting up a FLASH USB drive to hold my music as a NAS attached to my router because I dont have a computer on all the time. My current windows Music file is 360GB but has lots of redundant files. The master folder, Music, contains six folders, Album, All Tracks, Artist, Folder, Genre and Playlists many of which copy the MP4s - so each track is copied around 5-6 times. I'm curious whether I need to retain all the folders which would require a larger thumb drive. What would I lose if I did not copy over the Album folder for example. I presume the folders serve to make it easier to list tracks by album and artist and genre but am curious since some of the information is also in the file metadata. Would love some advice

I have my sonos currently setup on my wireless internet network and it's working fine but the signal drops when too many devices connect to the internet. I am thinking of connecting the sonos systems to a router that doesn't have any internet connection running but will be able to create a network for sonos exclusively. I am wondering if this will be possible if that router does not have any internet connection? Please note: I am aware of Sonos Boost and what it can do to solve my problem but what I am trying to achieve is a dedicated sonos wireless network running with the help of a router without internet connection.
