Advanced setups

Do we know whether the Playbar is streaming its input uncompressed? If I connect an analogue source to a Connect, and have that music streamed uncompressed to, for example, a Play 1, then I can see that the bit rate is something like 1.5 Mbits/s, which is touch higher than a WAV file but close enough and therefore as expected. I play my music using a Playbar (nothing to do with a TV, I just happen to have a spare Playbar). If I connect a digital music source via Toslink to a Playbar, and have that music streamed to a Play 1 then I can see a much lower bit rate: something like 400kbits/s. The only explanations I could think of are: i) The Playbar is compressing, lossy, (using SBC?). ii) The Playbar is compressing, lossless, (using FLAC?) (to make transmissions to other speakers more efficient?) Could anyone shed any light on this please?

I have a Sonos One device and have had it for about three months. I live in university accommodation which doesn't allow me to connect my Sonos to their network due to it having a login portal. I worked my way around this when I got the product by purchasing a Tripmate Nano TM02 and this was working fine. I then went home and set up the Sonos again there as I couldn't live without it and setting it up there was fine as it was just a regular network. However upon my return to university I can't seem to figure out how I managed to connect the Sonos to the Tripmate in the first place as the setup procedure seems to require me plugging the Sonos into my network (the Tripmate) and as far as I know I can't set up the Tripmate to convert a wireless network into a wired one; the way I was using it before was to create its own wireless network from the university-provided one and then the Tripmate acted as a gateway to the network as I only had to sign into the portal once through my laptop whi

I tried connecting my LG Magic Remote with my Playbase, without success. I've already read related topics on this forum and also the help article that is available here: https://sonos.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4267 According to the help article I need to go to 'device connector', then select soundbar, then select a manufacturer and a remote type. However, I do not get the latter 2 options (select manufacturer and remote type). All I can do under device connector is select soundbar and then 'optical'. So far during my Sonos setup my LG Magic remote cannot be found. My LG WebOS seems to be up-to-date. Are there any options to connect my LG Magic Remote to my Playbase? Thanks, Steven

Hi, I recently purchased and setup a NAS Synology DS218j with all my music in a shared folder, in my primary residence. I have a Play 1 in my secondary residence. I want to create a Music Library for the Play 1 to access the music located in the NAS in my primary residence. However, whenever I enter the local IP address of the NAS or the name of the NAS, the library cannot be created as I receive error message "the computer refuse to let Sonos connect to it". 1. Do I need to forward specific port in my router in my primary residence? 2. Which IP address should I use for the library setup? Surely the local one won't work when I'm outside of my local network. 3. I have the"outside" IP address of my router but it still doesn't work. How do I point toward my NAS behind that outside IP address? Thanks in advance.

It would be great if changing radio station was possible in a Sonos One without the need of the phone.

I have 3 Connect Amps in a networking closet. I plugged one of them into my switch and then daisy chained the other 2 from that one. Is that a good idea or not? Then, I have 9 Sonos 1 units spread out across the space. All of them are connected by wifi. If, however, they are near an available ethernet jack, is there any benefit to connecting them to ethernet?

Hey Everyone, I was hoping someone could help me out. Currently, my setup is Turntable > Phono Preamp > Connect > Integrated Amp > Passive Speakers. That way when I play my records I can here it on all my Sonos Speakers in my house. However, does anyone know if there is a way to set it up as Turntable > Phono Pre Amp > Yamaha Receiver. And have the Connect plugged only into the receiver. I'm worried about the Connect effecting the Analog signal. Here's a picture of the back of my receiver. Thanks for the help.

Hi, I was wondering if Sonos has a limit on the number of devices you can use on one network?

Hello. I have a Playbar which was mounted behind the top of the TV. This puts the Playbar’s IR receiver out of line-of-sight from the TV’s remote control. The TV is a Sony Bravia, which has a built-in IR blaster (USB connected with two IR emitters). I’ve tried running through the TVs IR blaster setup but it was unable to detect the sound bar. I’ve mounted the IR emitter (dome looking thing) on the back of the tv just in front of the Playbar’s IR receiver. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong, if this is how an IR blaster is even supposed to work. If this doesn’t work, then I think I’m down to purchasing a 3rd party IR receiver/extender solution, or possible a Logitech universal remote solution. Does anyone have any experience with a similar setup where you’ve been able to relay the IR signal from the remote through the TV to the Playbar? If not, with a 3rd party solution? Looking for recommendations on a solution. Thanks!

WiFi

I have had Sky Q and Sonos together for about 18months now. All are cabled Ethernet and all have been working well in close proximity to each other. I have had a 4th Sky Q mini box added into a guest flat, hard cabled again. This works fine. I have moved one of my Sky Play 1’s over and used a small netgear switch in which I have Sky, a TV, Blu-ray and Sonos. The Sky is meshed together with same SSID throughout. From the main house and anywhere off the new sky mini box I can see all my Sonos devices and control them fine. When I connect to the new sky mini box WiFi the Sonos app will not find any Sonos devices!! Tried every permutation on cabling etc. I can lean out the window and connect to another WiFi and Sonos opens straightaway and I can see all and control the relocated Play1. It’s driving me mental!! I have no ideas whatsoever what it can be. Please help!!!

I have several Sonos products of several different versions (some new, some 4 years old). I am able to hard wire several of the devices back to my router OR I could hardware a few to each other (playbar to another playbar to a one). In both scenarios, there would be several speakers that must rely on Wi-Fi (no way to connect to router or to any other Sonos). I want to maximize efficiency and minimize the strain on my home Wi-Fi system. How should I set this up?

I've perused all the forums... I can't figure this out and it's driving me insane. The Sonos Connect Amp and Sonos Play 3 I received as a birthday present, here's my set up: Record Player: Uturn Audio Pro Phone PreAmp: Pluto Phone Preamp Headphone Amp: Micromega MyZIC Headphone Amplifier Sonos Connect Amp Speakers: Kef Q350 I also have an additional Sonos Play 3 All my RCA cables are Audioquest Evergreen. I have the amazon basic banana plugs. When I play vinyl records, I get a distorted sound. It's unbearable! I was not experiencing this when I was not using Sonos (just last week). I would like to enjoy listening to records from all over my house, this is the reason I bought a sonos connect amp in the first place! Here's what I've done, 1. I've changed the the compression setting, from auto to compressed to uncompressed. no change 2. I've logged into my router and changed the wireless channel to 1, 6, and 11. No change 3. Sonos beginner here: I just got a sonos play 1, have a large mp3 collection on a remote server (not local files nor NAS) and was wondering how to stream them with the following criteria: 1. Remote server runs linux 2. Should be a free solution Note that the shipped android sonos controller app is fine, I'm not looking for a new controller, I'm looking for a streaming server software. So far I've come across subsonic, but sonos support is not included in the free version. Also came across ampache but not sure if sonos support works or not, https://github.com/hyperactivated/ampache-sonos is quite old and experimental. From the webpage of madsonic it's not clear whether sonos support is free or not. Does anyone have any tips or ideas or comments? Even better, does anyone have recent experience? There are certain users, who don't utilize multi-zone capabilities, since they've picked up just a single Sonos player - be it Connect or Play - for one-room music experience. Naturally, those users don't need to keep the built-in WiFi in always ON state. Please, consider adding an option to disable WiFi, when it is not required. This will reduce power consumption, interference with other wifi sources, and keep the environment clean and free of extra EMR.

I have compiled everything I have done so far. SONOS app (Mac or iPhone) is having trouble connecting and playing songs from most music services. I have no problem playing Q100 , 96.1 through TuneIn all 8 speakers. Some Stations fail to Play. SONOS Devices in use: 7 Sonos Play 1 ( 5 of these are Gen 1, 2 One 2 with Alexa) 1 Sonis SUB ATT Uverse Internet Speed: 1 GBPs My Current Devices/Settings/Setup Configuration: ATT UVERSE Broadband Modem/Router PACE PLC 5268AC — WAS REPLACED with latest ATT UVERSE MOTOROLA Modem/Router (BGW210-700) on 03/21/2018 Wi-FiAccess Point: NETGEAR R9000 (X10) - Initially running firmware v1.0.3.10 was downgraded to v1.0.3.6 (because that was one thing I had done 2 weeks ago). I plan to go up again to v1.0.3.10. Current Issue: All sorts of errors: 1001, 701, Unable to add music from 3rd party services, connection issues, diagnostic send failures etc. Issue since about less than 2 weeks - since I made the update to SONOS version 8.4

I’m posting my first question to a forum for years... I can normally work out stuff myself but have now run out of ideas! I have a Sonos Connect, a connect amp, and two Ones. Until today I had them running via home WiFi. But it was kind of unreliable - the connect has a poor signal and there’s a WiFi extender nearby. So I have tried... and tried to get a sonos boost network running instead. I want to wire the connect directly to my router. But I have not been able to pair it. In troubleshooting so far I have: - switched off all other devices - factory reset the connect - wired it directly to my router with short length of cat 5e (tested) - changed my home WiFi SSID during the pairing process I get the green flashing light, the app prompts me to press the infinity button, I press play and volume up together, I see flashing amber light then solid amber light. Then nothing. It creates a network called SONOS, I tried connecting to that too. What have I done wrong? Surely

I have a Play 5 and a Play 1 in a large kitchen diner, needed so that people in either part of the room can easily hear what is playing, especially with radio. As these speakers are always used together it would be ideal to be able to set them up as a fixed group, any ideas? I am sure this is a fairly common scenario. Roger

I have a playbar on one tv and a playbase on another tv, also several other play:1 play:3 and connect:Amp. When I use my phone or laptop as a source and switch to 'party mode', everything is perfect - always. When I watch either TV with only it's playbase or playbar - it works flawlessly. If, however, I attempt to group any other speakers to either the playbase or playbar sourced by TV sound - the audio cuts out every few seconds. This just started fairly recently - I recall watching some football this way (party mode) with no issues the entire evening - but by the time playoffs rolled around - it's not usable in that way. I'm unable to think of any significant changes that have been made since I recall this working - maybe the playbase is that new - it arrived on christmas day. :) Another interesting thing to note is that the source playbase or playbar (depending on which tv I want to broadcast) never cuts out - only the satellite grouped speakers cut out - and they all cut ou

I have been told I can run Cat5 from an outdoor TV to the indoor Connect AMP as long as I use a balun on both sides to make the connection. This would then allow sound from the TV to be played through the speakers that I have tied to the Connect AMP. Is this correct? I would assume then that volume control would be done through my phone. If anyone has additional suggestions (I don't want to spend $700+ on a Playbar), I am open. Thanks in advance!

Under a standard setup, it states that you can not use a "standard" setup if your Network uses wireless range extenders. Does it see multiple APs with the same network name as “range extenders”?

Hi everyone, a few weeks ago an update was "pushed" to my system and without it the update the Equalizer feature was disabled. I would like to be able control the moment of update of a perfectly working system. My Question: What URL'S and/or portnumbers could I block to prevent SONOS from talking to update servers and knowing there is an update. don't get me wrong, some updates are good, but I would like to be in control. regards,Bart

Sonos broadcast settings required for UniFi USG

hello, I have a large room with 4 X 100w wall mounted speakers. Currently I have 1 regular amp to power this. I could add Sonos connect and job done. (but the amp is old, bulky and not that good anyway.) So I would like to have 2 Sonos Connect Amps working together as 1 room each driving 2 speakers. What is the best way to do this? Thanks

Hi Guys, I have a problem with Sonos system, actually with few units, but I will start from beginning. System contains: 1 CONNECT 9 AMP 1 PLAYBAR 2 PLAY-3 1 SUB PLAYBAR PLAY-3s and SUB are configured as Surround. When I connected 9 AMPs and CONNECT to switch with router and access points controller everything is fine, but after I added there PLAY-3 or PLAYBAR whole network is going down. Trying to get what is wrong I checked this entry on Community: https://en.community.sonos.com/troubleshooting-228999/sonos-connect-brings-down-my-entire-network-6788347 Also checked the Table of not compatible hardware, and everything seams fine. I have STP enabled on switch and it should not be a problem for Sonos. Switch: Netgear GS728TP Access points controller: TP-LINK AC50 – this is the DHCP server. I tried to disable WiFi on each sonos then connect all together, but result is the same. Please help me solve this puzzle.
