Voice control and smart home

Does anyone else have the issue of the sonos one keep beeping and hearing things that aren’t Alexa. I was watching tv last night and 6 times in one hour she muted the tv volume and beeped as if she heard her name. I wouldn’t mind but when I call her name she doesn’t hear it...it seems the programming side of things needs some work!! It would surly make sense that the sound coming through the speaker shouldn’t trigger her as she knows she is the source? It also happens when you ask Alexa something and in her response she says Alexa...it then triggers the sonos one again...I had the dot and echo and neither of these devices worked like this and hardly any false triggers but it is getting silly with the sonos one now. Is it just me?

I have a Sonos One in the same room as an Echo Dot. If I understand correctly because of ESP the nearest one should answer on the wake word. Unfortunately very often both answer. Is there any solution?

Since connecting to public beta we are facing long delays between requesting playback of radio and it actually playing on the sonos device. This is after having previously been using dot via line in with limited issues re response times. When i look at the sonos app it shows connecting but takes up to 30 seconds to connect. If i select through the dot and playback there is no delay and if i simply use the app there is no delay on starting playback on a device but using voice has these long delays. This is not every time but happens a lot when i first connect - is this buffering issue? Music playback is fine. Broadband speed is 30mb fibre

Sonos One pair which speaker should Alexa voice come out from? And I noticed that the left speaker and right speaker both go bing when I say Alexa. However this is a tiny delay between the pings.

I have a couple Sonos One's showing up tonight. I'm hoping to put one in each of my kids' rooms (ages 7 & 10), and they'll be able to voice command their way through Spotify content, from a single Spotify account. Explore music! (I was thinking of printing them out sheets of recommendations... albums to explore with explicit voice commands to play them.) I know this should work via Sonos App (I can ask multiple Sonos speakers to play different albums via single Spotify account). But the kids don't have "devices" (like phone or tablet)... so... will it--different Spotify content playing on two Sonos One's--work via the voice commands invoking a single Spotify account (which come, I expect, via Amazon/Alexa). Has anyone tried this by chance? If I get no response, I'll try to return to this thread with my experiences. Thank you!!

Just set up a new SONOS One and Alexa seems to be working fine with one major exception--initiating playback from my Amazon Music Library. When asked to play any song in my Amazon Music Library or shuffle my Amazon Music Library, Alexa confirms the command correctly, and then suggests that it's beginning to play but there is either no sound or a brief cracking sound. Initiating playback of songs in my Amazon Music Library from the SONOS app works fine. Any ideas?

Does anyone know how to disable one of the alexas on one of the sonos ones when using them as rear speakers as they start to talk to each other!

As has been noted, there are issues when you have Sonos speakers with the same name as either your Echo devices, or other smart devices - essentially Alexa doesn't seem to understand where/how to route the query. However ... If you create a Device Group in Alexa called, for example "Office" You add your smart bulb called "Office" to that Device Group You have your Sonos speaker(s) in that room called "Office" And you have your Alexa named something differend "Office Alexa", for example Then it appears that Alexa can correctly route your requests. "Alexa, Turn the office light on" works "Alexa, Play Katy Perry in the office" works - and so on. It doesn't seem the 'official' way, which is to name everything differently, but I've been running with this setup throughout the Beta without issues; initially by mistake, and then intentionally as I found it solved my issues. Just got my Sonos One (I love it, great job Sonos) and added it to my Alexa account and Spotify. Since you specify the device by room it is named both "Mike's Sonos One" and "Living Room" in the Alexa app. I think the only one that works is the Living Room designation. I bought an echo show and absolutely love it's voice capabilities to play music. Unfortunately, it seems limited to only play files from services which do not support lossless (e.g. flac files). I want to direct the music to play to a stereo system for better sound quality (I have a mcintosh amp and PSB speakers). I figured out a way to play locally stored files mp3 files over bluetooth to a toslink connector on my dac, and that sounds pretty darn good... But I want to play locally stored flac files. Someone said that sonos has a device that has digital out that might work? I also have heard about using skill "HEADBAND" with jriver, and haven't tried that yet (actually tried but failed, but i am sure i probably just need to configure my firewall/router), and I heard ROON is working on a method, but wondering if there is any tried and working methods YET?? IS THERE ANY WAY KNOWN TO PLAY LOCALLY STORED FLAC FILES TO A REGULAR STEREO SYSTEM CONTROLLED BY ALEXA?

Hi, I was able to set up my connection with Alexa and Sonos, and I can use Alexa to start playing music without any issues. However, once the music starts, I have two issues: 1. I cannot stop the music. 2. the music stops playing after a single song. For example, if I say "Alexa, play the Beatles in the living room", music will start up on the Sonos system. However, if I ask her to stop the music ("Alexa, stop the music in the living room," "Alexa, pause the music in the living room"), she dims the sound of the Sonos speakers, responds with "I can change the playback mode only when music is playing" and then raises the volume of the living room again. When first requested to play music, Alexa responds with something like, "Shuffling popular songs by the Beatles in the Living Room." Hello, I have a failure with discovering my Sonos One in the Alexa App. The Sonos skill is enabled and linked to my account. I live in Belgium but my account is changed to US .... (Sonos and Alexa App) When i press discover, i always get an error after 1 second. Who can help me?

Just purchased Sonos One and Alexa working well with radio and Amazon Music. But Alexa can't find a specific artist from the music library though I can play the artists through the Sonos from the library on the Sonos app. I loaded the music library from Windows PC using the load 'music file' instruction and it has copied all in C: Music\iTunes. I have tried copying individual artist files from the iTunes file on my PC to the music library but I get an error message saying that my PC refused Sonos to connect to it (even though the music file was copied!). Where am I going wrong?

After hearing the sound quality on Sonos speakers on a friends system, i was impressed. After seeing that the Play 1 was Alexa capable, I bought a pair. Was so excited when they arrived, but quickly came down to earth when I discovered that they don’t link with Alexa in a way that allows her voice to actually play through the speaker. Whether or not this advertising is deceptive isnt even my main beef at this point... I did more reading, and after seeing that the Sonos One does allow Alexa to play through, I forked over another couple hundred and bought one of these. I was aware of the incompatibility issues regarding stereo pairing with my Play 1s, but decided I could live with that. What i cant live with is how poorly the microphone responds to Alexa voice commands. More often than not, i have to face the speaker and raise my voice even though Im only 5 feet away. My Sonos One arrived this morning, I've unplugged my Echo and setup the One in it's place ready for use. I've upgraded to 8.1 Problems.... - You cannot change the wake word from Alexa. - Music does not play. I say "Alexa, Play some UB40", Alexa confirms and says it is playing but no sound comes out. - Other non Sonos skills don't work e.g. Hue. If I say "Alexa, turn on the Hall lights", Alexa says that the hall is not responding. This works fine from the Echo when plugged back in. - The white light on the unit does not turn off when you disable it in the settings - With the Echo plugged back in I say, "Play UB40 in the Kitchen" I either get "Shuffling songs by UB40 in the kitchen, something went wrong" or "Cannot find songs by 'UB40 in the kitchen' " :) Anyone else have issues like this?

after speaking with Amazon Canada they have informed me that there is NO eta on the Sonos Skill for Echo.... why the delay !!

I have an echo dot and spot and Sonos playbar5.1 (playbar, speakers and sub). Usually it works fine to say “Alexa set volume 2 on living room”. Living room being the name of the playbar setup. However Alexa will also often respond w two different responses upon receiving the above command. 1st response is “living room doesn’t support that”. And. 2nd response which I received multiple times today (for the first time) is “living room is not responding”. I may have fixed the second response by manually changing the playbar volume using the tv remote however the issue may occur again since I don’t know why it happened. In regards to the first response I don’t understand why sometimes the volume will change and other times not. I try very hard to state the command exactly the same each time I say it. Also I am the only inhabitant of the household so there is not an issue of different voices/persons giving the command. Anyone experience the same or have a solution?

Our family has been using Alexa/Echo since it’s beta trial about 3 years ago and we have about 6 units. So we had to get #sonosone. However, sonosone does not respond to Alexa commands as effectively as Echo. Either we have to get close to it or yell for it to respond. The unit is sitting on kitchen counter where we had Echo previously. Looking for feedback on how to get our sonosone working as effectively as our old Echo. Thank you

Is it possible to use Alexa voice command to synch with a Spotify streaming playlist, so that you can say "play songs by eminem" ??? I have it set up so you can start sootify pause, , and skip songs currently.

I want to use my SONOS speakers for playback of Echo Dot results. For example, when I ask Alexa, "Alexa, what are today's headlines?" instead of the results playing on the Echo Dot's crummy speaker, I would like the results to play on my SONOS speakers. Any way to make this work?

Before Christmas I was able to start Deezer playing from my phone and tell Alexa to play next song. Now she says she can only change playback mode when music is playing. Why has it lost this ability and can anyone help me get it back please?

Due to WiFi interference in my home causing problems with my Sonos speaker system I added a Sonos Boost. This worked very well in improving the stability and availability of my speakers. It did, however, break the integration with Alexa. Alexa can no longer see my speakers. The Alexa device discovery doesn't work. I'm guessing it's because when using the Sonos Boost the speakers appear in my router connected devices table as hardwired, not a wireless device. My system consists of 5 Play 1's, 1 Subwoofer and 1 Boost. Alexa voice control worked fine with these speakers before the switch to the Boost. Is there a workaround for this that will allow Alexa to see them? If not, I hope that others have reported this and Sonos is working on a solution.
