Voice control and smart home

I'm having a slight problem getting Alexa to play a particular radio station that I request in the UK. Previously without issues, I've been able to ask Alexa to "play Absolute Radio in the lounge" for example and Alexa replies "Absolute radio from Tunein playing on lounge". It then proceeds to play Absolute Radio. However today, every time I give the same command "Alexa play Absolute Radio in the lounge" I get the reply "Absolute Radio 70's from Tunein playing on lounge" and the incorrect station - "Absolute Radio 70's" plays??? Doesn't matter which Alexa device I give the commands to or which Sonos speaker I ask it to play on. I was wondering if anyone else has the same problem? Or possibly, could somebody else in the UK try it and see if they are getting the same result? I am still able to play Absolute Radio through the Sonos app. Thanks

So I'm pretty ready to get the new One, but I have an important question - does it support "ESP" - or "Echo Spatial Perception"? The feature is what makes two echo devices hear you decide which one should respond, rather than both responding. I have an ecobee thermostat with Alexa built in, but no ESP...so I had to turn it off as it is in the hallway, and the Echo Dot in the dining room down the hall hears all my requests in the hallway, making them both respond which is really annoying (especially when it is not just a question and you are preforming some home automation action, which will make it trigger twice.) So in the end I just disabled the feature on my thermostat. Also, how does it work when you have a stereo pair? should I buy extra Play:1's to be the second speaker in the array rather than having to Sonos One's in the room?

After looking into a bit more, I have encountered a few shortcomings on Sonos and starting to seek alternative (as I have only one Sonos device for now). But as I read more about other systems, Sonos indeed look attractive in many ways. Initially, I was ignoring SONOS Connect and connect amp but now I am starting to think maybe these devices will close the gap. So let me ask a few questions to experienced forum members. 1. Bluetooth receiver on connect When we use it, can I play music in any Sononet device or is it only on one that is attached to the aux in? E.g. play 5 or connect that has Bluetooth receiver plugged? Or can I play the music on other room located Playbar? 2. Connect + own external speaker + Sonos Sub? My existing speaker don’t have subwoofer component. Can I connect it to SONOS Connect then Group it with Sonos Sub? Thank you for your help in advance,

Kept getting the music already playing on another device error. Alexa would say she would play, but no audio comes out. Also sometimes she would only play one song then stop. The cure was to go into the Sonos app, and in the "My Sonos", where the song title is at the bottom of the screen, keep hitting the play button, even if there is no song listed there. Various songs kept popping up, along with the "playing on another device error", but after repeatedly pressing play, and all the backlog of songs had cleared, all is working OK now.

I set it up, I say, "Alexa play sonos" response: "hmmm to do that, enable your sonos skill in your alexa app, after enabling skill just say Alexa discover devices" The skill is enabled and I say "Alexa discover devices" response: "I couldn't find any new smart home devices"..... Is this right?

I am impressed with the Alexa / Sonos release yesterday and am pleased to see that it will develop. I know two other people with SONOS systems, and we all play music from a local NAS. Is this possible using Alexa voice control?

I didn't see this advertised anywhere but after setting up my Sonos One with Alexa it seems that any smart home devices do not work. All works perfectly with my echo dot but the Sonos Alexa is kind of a half baked approach. Is that just me? Sonos admins please let me know if I'm doing something wrong.

I used to control smart plugs (TuyaSmart) in the house with Alexa on the SONOS 1, but one day Alexa could no longer find the plugs. Another SONOS 1 in the house and an Echo can turn on and off the plugs with ease. I can also turn on and off plugs with Alexa and TuyaSmart apps, but this one SONOS 1 does not find the plugs any more. I tried rebooting and asked Alexa to discover new devices. It says there are no new devices. I have not tried resetting, which SONOS discourages. Anyone with same problem?

I recently purchased an Amazon Echo Dot to go along with my SONOS system which currently consists of a SONOS Play 1 (with Alexa) and a SONOS Connect that I have connected to my vintage home stereo system. I was told by the sales person at BestBuy that the Echo Dot would "work" with my speaker; so I was thrilled to purchase an inexpensive smart home device to add to my system. After setting up my Echo Dot with the respective SONOS and Amazon apps and connecting the aux out of the Echo Dot into a set of good computer speaker with a nice sub and I was ready for action. I began developing the Amazon skills to allow it to send commands to my SONOS units and was able to command my Echo Dot to play songs on my various SONOS units BUT was completely disheartened when I learned that the music that was playing on the SONOS units would not be able to be grouped or synced with the output of the Echo Dot. Hi Community, Device: Sonos One Before: I could just say "Alexa, play "The Beatles" Now (since this morning CET): Alexa responds to this command with "I'm sorry, something went wrong". However, it plays music with "Alexa, play The Beatles on Spotify". Once music is on, other commands such as "Alexa, next song" work. I disabled/enabled Sonos skill, I unlinked/linked Spotify and verified that Spotify was default music service on Alexa. However, the problem still persists. Please help. Thanks! Alex

Hey folks! I will add my voice (pun intended) to the frustrations with the new Sonos Play 1 with Alexa. It is such a hodge podge of what is supported, what is not, what is known broken, etc. Read the forums and I so agree that a known issues sticked post from Sonos would be great. Here is the core reason for this post, but, I will list some others below. I saw a few mention sleep sound problems but they were wedged into other posts, so, I decided to make one on its own. My Sonos Play 1 is in my bedroom. I was really really looking forward to sleep sounds. I rattled off so many installed skills. Alexa acknowledges them says she is going to play them then goes silent. I was looking through the app and naming specific things from specific skills. No luck. However. Sometimes with for example of the guided meditation skill it played the music but there was absolutely no voice guidance where there would be with my Echo Dot. I would really like to find out if

Hi, does anyone know if Apple Music will be added into the Sonos One for voice control?

Hi - I currently own 3 Sonos Ones, all located in different rooms of my house. Alexa worked perfectly fine on each of these after the initial set up. I was quite impressed as it could even hear the wake word when music was playing quite loudly. However, after a week or so of use, Alexa's sensitivity to the wake word while music is playing diminishes dramatically (on all 3 speakers at different times) - this gets to the point where I have to stand right next to the speaker and literally shout into the microphones to get it to hear me, even with only quiet music playing. I have found that this problem can be fixed when it occurs by turning the microphones on each speaker off and on again via the button on top of the unit. However, about a week later the problem will return. Again I will fix it by turning the mic off and on, but again it will return. Has anyone else experienced similar? Is Sonos aware of this issue and is there an update planned to fix it? It is getting extremely

Hi, why does my Sonos drop it’s volume in one room when somebody is using an echo dot in another room. The units are not even connected together as I run them separately.

I have 3 rooms with sonos one's. My office, and two kids rooms. We all have our own spotify accounts. I want each of us to be able to use alexa to play music from our own spotify account. I have created multiple amazon accounts so each sonos one is associated with its own alexa and spotify account. But now when i play music from my office, its using my daughters spotify account. In settings my sonos is clearly linked to my own alexa account, and my daughters hers. Is this setup possible?

It's a good thing I set my alarms on my mobile phone as well because my Sonos One didn't fire off the alarm at all. I also can't issue Alexa commands to it anymore which is ridiculous. I disabled the Sonos Skill on the Alexa App. Re-enabled it. Searched for Devices and sadly it can't be detected anymore (I labelled it "bedroom" before). I'm currently at work but I would really appreciate it if someone can try and help me out with this so I can sort it out as soon as I get home. Thank you.

I recently brought a Sonos One with Alexa built in. It now appears that all BBC radio channels are unavailable on Tune In Radio? Any ideas? It was working fine. As we are on the subject of Tune In, if i listen to privately funded stations the adverts are in Spanish! Thoughts?? Simply answer please as i'm not really a tech geek. Thanks in advance 😃

I am unable to get my Sonos One to both shuffle and loop an Amazon Music playlist using Alexa. The following steps are taken: 1. "Alexa... Shuffle Arnold music" (Arnold is my dog) 2. Sonos One starts shuffled version of the playlist, stating it is playing on the Sonos. 3. "Alexa... Loop Mode" 4. Sonos One acknowledges Loop Mode is turned on. After that, the playlist does not loop. Is this a bug?

I have been using my Sonos One regularly for many months. The devices have stopped waking to the Alexa wake up work a few days ago. I have restarted the devices, updated the controller, disable/enabled Alexa skill and rediscovered devices. The device is showing correctly in all apps (Sonos + Alexa) and can be controlled fine through the app. There just isn't any voice recognition. Ideas?

I have three Alexa devices. An original Echo, Dot Gen2, and a Sonos One. I haven't had issues before, but since this morning when I ask to play my Spotify playlists, the echo automatically shuffles my playlists. Before, it would just play my music in order, but now it just shuffles every time. Even if I turn shuffle off either by voice or with the app, and say "Alexa, play My Rotation playlist" it still responds by shuffling the music. I tried on all three devices and same result. I even unlinked my Spotify account and re-linked it but that didn't change anything except now Alexa won't recognize my playlists at all. I think it just needs time to resync.

I have just purchased a Sonos. My primary reason for buying it was so that I could play music through voice recognition ie Alexa. Every time I ask Alexa to play something she tells me it’s not in my music library or that it’s available on Amazon Music Unlimited and would I like more information. I have enabled Sonos on skills in the Alexa app, I have set Amazon Music as my default, I am an unlimited customer. What am I doing wrong???

Hi, Has anyone managed to get Alexa to play 181.FM channels. Alexa kept telling me she did not know the channel. So I manually selected it via the app. Whilst it was playing, I asked Alexa what was playing. I then asked Alexa to play the channel repeating what Alexa had said, but it still did not work. Any suggestions?
