Voice control and smart home

Recently purchased 2 x Ones to replace my Echos. So Alexa is already setup and configured to work with my Hue lights. The new One’s work well with the Hue Scenes, whole rooms go on and off easily. However, if I choose to pick one specific light to turn on or off I get: “XXX isn’t responding. Please check network or power...” The lights are all active in the Alexa app and I can turn them on/off from there. Help would be appreciated ?

Now here’s the thing. In the bedroom I have a Amazon Echo. It answers to the wake up “Computer”. I can say “Computer, turn on the Bedroom lights” and low and behold my Philips Hue Lights glow in wonderful colours. In the Sitting Room I have and expensive Sonos One. It answers to the wake up “Alexa” (so no conflict with the Amazon Echo). I can say “Alexa, turn on the Bedroom lights” and low and behold (after the annoying beep” NOTHING. Well actually the Sonos replies “Sorry I didn’t find a device called Bedroom lights” or sometimes it replies “Bedroom Sonos does not support that”. How can a £35 Amazon product work perfectly every time yet after 6 months I can still not get my expensive Sonos speaker to do anything. It seems, while reading this blog, that many many people have problems and Sonos is unable to resolve or even understand the issues. Had a sonos one linked to my amazon music account controlled using the Alexa voice services for about 15 months and had experienced no problems playing playlists and shuffling music. In the last 3 months or so the sonos one fails to play the second song on a playlist. The music simply finishes at the end of the first song. Within the sonos app I am able to advance to the next song manually. Initially I was able to resolve the problem by relinking the amazon music account and voice services although it drops out every couple of weeks. When I went to relink this evening it has failed to resolve the problem. Whilst I might be able to resolve the problem in the next few days with continued efforts to relink I am not overly impressed with the fact that it keeps dropping out. All devices and apps are up to date. Would welcome any thoughts? Is this a known sonos bug with a fix coming, since it worked for 15months or so it would suggest software upgrade related.

Hi all, I have been using Sonos with Alexa and Spotify for ages now. When I say "Alexa, play Stairway to heaven", it plays it just fine on my Echo, then stops. (no autoplay) When I say "Alexa, play Stairway to Heaven in the Family Room" (I have a Sonos called family room, but this happens on any of my Sonos devices), it plays Stairway to Heaven fine on my FR Sonos, but then continues to Autoplay songs after that. For some reason, when I control the Sonos through Alexa/Spotify, it controls Spotify with the autoplay feature on. I have disabled Autoplay on Spotify on both mobile and desktop. Again, when using the same exact command to play on the Echo, it does it great. Only when it plays on the Sonos does it play more random songs, which is extremely annoying. How can I disable Autoplay when using Alexa to launch a Spotify song on my Sonos? Again, everything is configured properly and the Sonos skill works fine.

Hi, I have several Sonos Ones in my house. Whenever we have friends over I unplug two of the speaker to make a stereo pair using the Sonos app. It works very well. However when I unplug the speakers and move them back the Alexa functionality seems to not work properly eg it will call up Spotify songs etc but won’t stop or skip I have found that re-enabling the Sonos skill in the Alexa app will fix this for one of the speakers, but not the other. Ultimately turning the speaker off then on (Classic!) fixes it. Is this a common issue? I don’t mind this minor inconvenience but my family would not be able to sort this out! Cheers Ian

I heard the Amazon music was going to Sonos in early 2018. However, here we are past the mid point. Anything we can do to speed this up. We can have Amazon Alexa but not Amazon Music?

I have Sonos in virtually every room and it is used daily to play the radio, streaming music and most importantly music from my NAS. Can someone tell me: When i can use Alexa to play my music from my NAS drive? When Alexa will be able to group and ungroup Sonos zones? Now my 4 CR100 controllers no longer work i bought Alexa to help, unfortunately it is not yet a proper solution. Unless someone out there has a fix?? Thanks

When I ask Alexa to play a track, it acknowledges the request vocally but the music starts before Alexa has finished its acknowledgement. So the first fre notes are masked. Any way to pause the beginning of the music until Slexa has finished talking?

My other sonos one speakers work fine. The speakers having problems worked fine for the last year but now when I say Alexa all it says is “ I am having trouble understanding you right, now please try again later.” And on my Alexa app it shows the speakers not online. I tried deleting it and rediscovering it with no luck - it discovered them but the problem remains. I tried unplugging the speakers and reconnecting them with no luck either. My music plays fine on the speakers and so does my TV. It’s just that Alexa cannot work.

When playing Pandora radio or Amazon Music radio from Alexa sometimes it stops playing after songs and I have to give Alexa the command, "Alexa play Pandora radio in Family Room", for it to resume play. I know that this topic has been discussed before, but I was wondering if there has been a resolution to Alexa stopping music play after one or several songs.

My Beam won't turn my tv (Samsung UE55JU6800) on or off via Alexa voice command. Voice command works for other functions (volume adjust, mute etc) its just the on/off that isn't working. When I say "Alexa turn TV off" the response is I cannot find a device named TV. I've reviewed other threads and have tried: - Unplugging my other HDMI devices which my have been confusing the TV - Turned on Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) in the TV's settings - Selected Yes for Auto Turn Off in the TV's settings - Tried selecting Soos Beam as the Source on TV and whilst I get the Sonos screensaver I still cannot turn tv off Any help would be greatly appreciated!

So I finalky think i've cracked my Sonos One and Alexa woes and hopefully no more regular full factory resets required! I have x3 Sonos Ones configured in 3 rooms and have had constant issues with Alexa randomly stopping playing spotify music etc However I think Ive sorted it finally! 1. I have one speaker permanently wired to a LAN connection point. This sets up a Sonos web with my other 2 speakers 2. I have reserved IP addresses for all of my speakers 3. I renamed one of the speakers that conflicted with a lighting group name. They used to go wrong randomly or even just if moving, turned off etc... Now, ive had 2-3 days of broadband provider issues, my router has been constantly booting up continuously... the speakers obviously lost internet and at first I even turned them off and on... however after the internet came back, the speakers automatically picked up the network again a

Interestingly it does state that this is for Echo user/devices though and no mention of partner speakers such as Sonos. If this is a new Alexa Skill, will this not mean that Sonos users will by default be able to access AM via native voice commands on Sonos One's, Beam etc too? ...Or is this wishful thinking!!! Either way, it is an interesting development and hopefully this news means we will have Apple Music native voice integration on Sonos units at some point sooner rather than later!

Hey folks. I have two HomePods and am looking to get a vinyl turntable soon. Of course there are no line ins on these speakers but I do like the sound quality. My question is, if I were to get a Play:5 and use the line in with the turntable, could I then stream this to the HomePods or just to other sonos speakers? I figure that any signal being pushed out via airplay 2 needs to be coming from an Apple device, most logically a HomePod. This wouldn’t be an issue if the HomePods showed in the sonos app for me to route the line in signal to, but from what I understand these HomePods don’t show in the app. Further from this, does anyone have a multiroom vinyl solution that doesn’t involve a Mac or iOS device taking in a line in signal and pushing this out with airplay? I am a developer that is developing a device that has alexa functionality, like the echo from amazon. when I try to add the sonos skill to the alexa profile of that device, it blocks me from doing this , stating region not supported. why is the skill developed by sonos geo blocking? there is no reason for it, as it works for other skills, like the spotify connect, which works flawlesly, and has no local locale. some person from sonos team stated that this is amazon doing, but that is not true, it is how you 'sonos' set up the profile and skill in the alexa library that stops installing the skill outside US/UK/Ger/spain/japan/.. https://developer.amazon.com/docs/custom-skills/develop-skills-in-multiple-languages.html as I have many skills already added that install without a problem and work as intended outside the US/UK/Ger as they use the default en-US as fallback. can you please change that in your son

Is it possible to disable Alexa without pressing a physical button on the Sonos One device? I need to be able to disable and enable Alexa without physical contact with the Sonos One device.

Hi I have an Amazon Echo Dot connected to a Play 5 via the line in in my dining room, and two sonos Play one with Alexa is separate bedrooms. I have a spotify Premium family account. The issue I have is that Alexa via the Echo Dot controls spotify (and other music sources) perfectly but with either of the Play Ones I cannot get Alexa to control any music service. I can use an iphone to start spotify on the Play one but Alexa wont stop it playing. All devices are on the same wifi and are logged against the same spotify premium account. Can you help please?

Hey community, thanks for your time. We just moved and I set up my Sonos One speaker, changed the WiFi settings etc, Sonos app on my phone is updated already, and so forth. I say "Alexa, play (fill in the blank)". Then Alexa responds by saying she is playing the (fill in the blank) that I commanded, but then there is no audio (the audio volume is not turned off). On my Sonos app, I can click a song option with my finger, and music will play. But again, Alexa voices my command as if she's gonna play music, but then silence. Not sure how to troubleshoot this.

I am form Mumbai, India. I have been using Sonos with Alexa integration till yesterday, until Amazon launched Alexa services in India. To get the local skills I had my Amazon marketplace for Alexa changed from UK to India and since then my Sonos skill for Alexa vanished. I am unable to search Sonos skill on Alexa Skills page. On contacting Amazon, they replied that Sonos hasn't released the skill for India 😞. Any clue how can I enable the Sonos skill for Alexa whilst having the location India. Regards, Shanty

Please consider updating the Alexa framework to allow users to change the "wake" name, to "echo", "computer", etc.

I start music on my Beam and Play:1 group using Alexa ("Alexa, play Laid Back Classics Station"). After a while I stop it again using Alexa ("Alexa Stop"). Then after several minutes it starts again of its own accord. I then either tell it to stop again using Alexa, or pause it in the Sonos App. But, after several minutes it starts again. It does this repeatedly with about a 5-10 minute gap between me stopping/pausing and it restarting. There is nothing pressing on the controls on the Beam or Play:1's and no noise that it could be misconstruing...and anyway I have said "stop" not Pause when stopping it. I cannot be sure, but I think this has only started happening since I upgraded to the latest software update (I am now on 10.0), but it has occurred on a few days now. The only way I can then stop it is by switching to TV input (by saying "Alexa turn on the TV")... I have submitted a diagnostic immediately after it last occurred (that was the 4th resume af

Since updating to the latest release the playing the alarm (which is configured in the Sonos App) cannot be stopped anymore by saying the voice command "Alex, Stopp". This was working before, now you have to press the button of the Sonos One.

Sometimes I'm just listening to music, reading a book or surfing the web, and completely forget what time it is. I wish Sonos would lower the music volume and tell me "It's 11PM". That alert could be manually set up, or come from outlook/google calendar, or even come from Google Now/Siri/Cortana
