Spotify just launched it's API called "Spotify Connect". Read more here: http://techcrunch.com/2013/09/02/spotify-makes-its-biggest-hardware-play-yet-with-spotify-connect-synching-music-at-home-and-beyond/ Basically this allows Spotify users to control their music directly through the Spotify App on all devices. That means: You can finally listen to music on the go, e.g. on your way home, and resume your playlist when you arrive. Also that means: SPOTIFY RADIO FOR YOUR SONOS So many great features and advantages BUT as you can read in the techcrunch article above, SONOS WILL NOT SUPPORT IT. That makes me really sad and angry and therefore I say: Build what your customers want and implement Spotify Connect now!

Hi, I've just purchased a new TV above as per the title and for the life of cannot get it to connect to the tv via optical cable. I've tried both setting that are shown on the tv audio menu namely PCM and RAW, HISENSE manual says to choose RAW for sound bars where as PCM is for an AMP. but i still cant get it to detect, there is a red light shining out of the cable when i remove it from the playbar so i think the cable is ok. Is there anything else i can do get this sorted or another way of connecting to this TV. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Andy

HI All, So my neighbors have a PlayBar and just added two Play1s as surrounds, Everything works great and sounds amazing when they are using them for TV. During cocktail hour they want to take one of the Play1s outside to listen to music. So I thought the easiest way is to leave them bounded to the PlayBar and just take them out side. The distance to the PlayBar is maybe 5 meters but, there is a wall in between the PlayBar and the Play1 (when it is outside on the outside cocktail table). Well the Play1 is just breaking up as it is just a little to far from the PlayBar (I think) They do have a Boost in the system and it is near the PlayBar. If I did not bound the Play1s to the PlayBar I am thinking they would play fine but, that is a real hassle to bound and unbound them every cocktail hour. The easiest thing to to buy another Play1 Any thoughts on the best way to do this? Thanks

I've read the countless threads about DTS support and the fact there are no plans -- which to some degree I understand. I also read a similar thread from 2014 -- 2 years on and there's nothing? Given that Netflix & Vudu -- two of the biggest streaming services in the world are predominantly using DD Plus 5.1 is there ANY hope that something to at least downmix to a 5.1 format (DD) would be added? Things like Atmos & even DTS I can understand, but at this point given the $1500+ investment in a Sonos 5.1 setup -- being able to deal with DD 5.1 Plus seems like a big deal. It's hard to justify the investment if I have to default to Stereo on both Vudu & Netflix. If the bandwidth issues over optical are an issue there really should be some other solution that doesn't have us at Stereo from a 5.1 source. Has there been any word on this? I'm thinking of returning the Playbar + Sub + Play 1s I got as I wasn't aware this was such a headache.

Hi! I am quite new to Sonos, have read some on this forum and the guides for 5.1 but I feel I must ask some questions before I take the plunge and get a couple of Play:1s. I have read the guide (https://en.community.sonos.com/home-theater-228993/home-theater-and-television-recommendation-megathread-6735001) and can see in the app that it plays Dolby digital 5.1 from both Netflix and my BD player. The thing that confuses me is that this should not be possible since Netflix uses DD+ and BD films I tested uses DTS hd master but still the app tells me the playbar plays DD5.1 and I get perfect sound, is my tv converting the sources for me automagically and I will get surround if I get the two Play:1s? DTS from dvd does not work how ever but that is according to spec but how come it works from DTS hd ma? Next thing, can Sonos 5.1 emulate Dolby Prologic II and give me "fake" surround from stereo sources? I have a Sony KD-55X8505B tv and a Sony BDP-S5500 Bd player connected to my Playbar

Is there a way from controller software to tell what type of audio signal the playbar is receiving from source?

I got the Playbar, and tomorrow I will get the sub, and I was thinking on adding 2 rear speakers to complete 5.1. But, 1 or 3? what are your experiences?.

Dear all, here is my conundrum: My configuration: Playbar ---via optical cable--- TV ---via HDMI--- PC + 4 Play 1 speakers (2 in surrond mode with Playbar). When I play a movie or a game stored on a PC it would seem I don't get DD sound: I play a movie which has DD and in Sonos app>About I don't have "Audio In". I have Play 1: Living Room (LS) and the same one but (RS) and on both I have "WM: 2". I don't have the Playbar at all. What I know for sure is that the TV (Sony Android) does transfer DD to playbar; meaning, there is an issue between the PC and the TV. Could you please help?

Hi, I have recently added a Playbar to my Sonos Line-up and wanted to add me excisting play 1s for surround. Im going to use it with the following devices: Apple TV (latest gen) Playstation 4 and my tv-decoder. My tv is a Samsung UE46ES6805 which im guessing is a Norwegian specific model with another name in other countries? Which makes it a bit confusing when looking for manuals. As far as i know this model came out in 2011/2012 and does not support optical passtrough of 5.1 (?) as its currently only showing stereo and the settings in the audio settings. Can I somehow passtrough the sound via any of the other devices with an hdmi? I also have Panasonic blu-ray player (BDT319). From TV to blu-ray and from blu-ray to Playbar via Opitcal, or would that only help with sound from that specific device? Or is the solution some kind of switch? I know there is a large thread any many others on the same topic, but I couldnt seem to sort my issue. Thanks in advance

Hello all. I am looking to purchase a Sonos Playbar and make it a full 5.1 system for my home audio. However, I keep reading things about the Playbar not working well with Samsung TVs. Can someone please clarify if the Playbar works properly with a Samsung KS8500 or KS8000 Tv please? I really don't want to drop a heap of cash on something and find out later it doesn't properly work. Thanks for any answers 🙂

I just got delivery of a Soundbar, which is hooked up to TV but is also to be used as the music player in my lounge (previously I've used a single Play3 for music in the Lounge). TV sound through the Playbar is fine, but when playing streaming music (Spotify etc) the audio is not a good as the Play3 (at least to my ears!). Compared to the Play3, the Soundbar is distinctly lacking in bass and generally the sound is less "full". Based simply on the increased separation and total number of speakers (and cost!) I'd expected the Soundbat to sound better than Play3. I've tried playing with the loudness setting and the equalisation on the Soundbar, but still can't get the same fullness of sound (particularly the bass) that the Play3 has. I'm wondering if there's some setting I've missed which will improved music quality? I assume that the Soundbar knows that there is no sub and should adjust its bass accordingly? Has anyone else had a similar experience and was a solution fo

I saw the following on this site. Does this mean my AMP will never go into idle if I have my TV connected to its line in? "Idle is defined as audio muted or paused on all players in the household for at least 3 minutes, no cables are connected to Line-In jacks, and no optical signal is being actively fed to a PLAYBAR (in most cases, this means that the TV is off)."

I purchased the soundbar and don't have short term plans to add anything else (sub, surround). My TV does not output from HDMI to optical in Dolby 1) Will I get a different format or benefit if I still add a switch or am I only getting Stereo given my setup? I say this since when I play Netflix from the TV, it outputs to the soundbar as dolby and it seems to sound better. Should I be buying a switch? 2) Is there a small switch that you can recommend that can hide behind the tV that sits over my fireplace (not much space behind the tv)?

I have set up 5.1 home theatre and found very little sound actually gets sent to the rear channels. What has your experience, for those with a sounbar w/ sub and 2 play 1's for rears? Do they make a huge difference wihen fed a true Dolby D 5.1 sound?

I already had my Playbar and sub connected with with my TV before now. Today, received and try to connect my two new Play 1s. When I music from my Sonos app from my phone, it plays from the two new Play 1s, but not from the playbar and sub. Conversely, when I play the TV, the sounds comes out from the playbar and sub, but not from either of the Play 1s. Before now Ive only used the playbar and sub for tv sound and never played music from my phone. Any ideas how to sync the whole speakers so that whether I play music from my tv or from the Sonos app on my phone, all speakers produce sound?

Hi there, I own 2 Samsung tv's; one in the livingroom and one in the kitchen (it's a space without walls, 60m2), and want to buy a SONOS set. My thoughts: - TV livingroom: 2x PLAY5, 1x PLAYBAR, 1x SUB - TV kitchen: 1x PLAY5 In the livingroom I want to use the standard configuration as descripted above, but in the kitchen I want to connect the TV through 3,5mm jack to use the single PLAY5. When I play music f.e. with Spotify and don't use any tv, I want to use the whole system (all PLAY5, PLAYBAR and SUB). Possible? Or is there a better configuration to achieve the best result? I have turned tv speakers off liked advised but when I change the volume I get a message saying " ur tv is set to external speakers , adjust the volume on the connected speakers directly " then disappears about 10 secs later , how can I get rid of this message ! I've a Samsung 60inch tv

Hello. With the Play 1 on sale at the moment I thought about picking up two to add to my lounge. I have a Sony TV and the soundbar/sub that came with it. My thought was that maybe I could get 2 Play 1's and connect them to the TV as part of the existing setup. Is this possible wirelessly? Thanks

If you are considering buying a Playbar, keep in mind that in most cases, despite the advertisements, you will most likely not get true surround sound, even if you add rear speakers and sub. This is because most TV's can't output Dolby 5.1 through the optical port. Therefore, all you end up getting is better amplified stereo sound. Very little sound will even be transmitted through the rear speakers. Only way around this is to buy a digital optical switch which allows you to bypass the TV: https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=7974. WHY DOESN'T THE PLAYBAR SUPPORT HDMI ARC INPUT? THIS WOULD ALLOW TRANSMISSION OF DOLBY 5.1 SOUND FROM THE TV TO THE PLAYBAR.

I have an ATT Uverse cable box hooked up to my Samsung PN64D8000FF tv via an HDMI cable, a Playbar connected to the TV with the optical connection, and 2 Play:3s for surround sound. In the "About Sonos" menu it shows the "Audio In" as Stereo. I can't seem to get 5.1. When I go to the TV menu to select the Sound output, it is stuck on PCM and I can't select Dolby Digital. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks as always. -Tyler

I have a Denon AVR-1912 receiver, NHT front speakers and a subwoofer (can't remember the brand) a Sharp 80" tv, all wired. I'd like to add wireless rear speakers and I'd love to use Play 1's. What would I need to do to make them work with my existing system? Thanks in advance. I've searched the communities and read the other Denon questions but they didn't really replicate my setup.

I just bought a UE55KS8005XXE (or UE55KS8000XXE outside Denmark) and it came with the Samsung One Remote (http://m.wsj.net/video/20160420/042016samsungremote/042016samsungremote_1280x720.jpg). How do I configure the Playbar for this signal? It does have a IR-transmitter to act as a universal remote, but I can't seem to make it respond. Can anyone shed light on this? 🙂

Hey all, I recently set-up the Sonos 5.1 Home Theater system (Playbar + Sub + 2 Play:3s). I've plugged the Playbar directly into the wifi router, and the TV I'm using is a Samsung PN64D8000FF. When watching NBC Sunday Night Football last night, it didn't sound like the rear Play:3s were actually kicking in any sound. It sounded like only the Playbar was pushing sound, and the Sub was very weak. So, I have a couple questions: 1.) If I go to "About Sonos" in the app while the tv is playing, will it show me whether there is 5.1 Surround Sound being played? 2.) Can anyone confirm that the Samsung PN64D8000FF is capable of pushing out 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound in the first place? 3.) Any other recommendations/tips on how to ensure that the home theater system is actually pushing out surround sound, and that the speakers are working properly? Thanks as always everyone!
