Sub on a shelf?
Ideally I want to put my sub, lying flat on the bottom glass shelf of my TV stand, is that ok?

Not ideal. For one thing the SUB's bass energy could well set off resonances in the TV stand. It's also not exactly light so beware you don't overload the glass shelf.
From an acoustic perspective the SUB's output may be coloured by the cabinet. It depends how open the stand is or whether it's closed at the back and/or sides. Trueplay tuning should however help compensate for such cabinet effects.
