Hi forum members! I am going to buy the playbar tomorrow. I am not sure will I place it on a shelf below the TV or on its thiner edge on the top of the shelf, where currently sits my qacoustics M4. See photo (smartphone, croped, not sure the QM4 is visible 🙂 The sitting position is 5,5 metres away. Honestly, I am a bit worried: -i haven't tried the playbar in my room, so I don't know how it will sound. However, My two play 3 do very well. -i aspect slight degradation in sound compared to the QM4. The qacoustics, wherever is placed, projects the dialogue right in front of the TV. I am not sure the Playbar will be able to do that, (angle of speakers when in different positions) However, Sonos won me over with it's simplicity. I want to add more components. Playbar was in my sight a long time ago. After all, I'd could be surprised :-) I would love to hear what you think. Neven

I used to use 2 Sonos Ones for listening to music. Because of my room set up I was closer to my left speaker, so I slid the balance fader to the right, and all was right with the world again. Then I bought the Beam and set it up for 5.1 with my 2 Ones as surround, although I still use them for listening to music. However in its current configuration the balance fader is no longer there. I’m sure I could separate the Ones from the Beam to regain the fader but I’d lose the 5.1. And by 5.1 I mean 5.0 because I have no sub. I’m wondering if there’s a way to get the fader back and still maintain my 5.1 set up. Thank you in advance.

There was an older thread on this topic I replied to, but figured I'd start a new one if it wasn't seen. I have a pioneer elite pro-920hd plasma and I have recently purchased the sonos playbar only toi learn that its incompatible with the playbar and can't get sound when i run the digital optical cable from the playbar into the tv's optical audio output. Also, how would i hook this up? One option that was also suggested is that I run the optical cable right into my cable settop box. That's fine, but then how would I get sound on my apple tv? Thinking about getting the Sub to add to my Playbase, and my 10 year old son asked me an interesting question: If you add the Sub, does it turn off the woofer in the Playbase? Guessing no, but can anyone verify?

When I try to change the beam to play my tv it takes about 5 minutes to pick up the sound. I try with different commands, using the app etc. This is the same when the TVs been off as well. I have a Samsung 8 series connected by hdmi arc.

I just bought a brand new LG TV which only came with one RF remote. I am unable to get the remote to control the volume on my playbar. I see people have had similar problems with Samsung? Is there a solution out there or are Sonos proposing a fix? It is a pain in the proverbial to have to use my phone for volume control and the remote for everything else. I have a fair few dollars invested in Sonos gear and it does not please me that it can’t cope with this simple technology.

Doing 1st time setup when pairing the comcast x1 remote to the playbar the setup process goes through without a problem but when testing after completing setup the volume down and mute buttons increase the volume don't do what they're intended for. Have removed the remote and learned it in multiple times and it always has the same result. Thanks

Just ordered a Beam for use with my Sony Bravia TV which has an HDMI-ARC port on HDM 1, I believe I connect the Beam to HDMI-ARC (1) and the V6 cable box to HDMI 2. If this is correct I assume I then select HDMI 2 to watch programmes via the V6 box and the sound will come from the Beam as long as I have enabled CEC on the TV? Can some kind soul confirm I have this right please. I assume if I want to use the Beam as a music source without the TV I just operate it via the App without needing the TV switched on? My apologies if these are simplistic questions.

Uh oh. Last night, watching a Bluray via an XBox One X to Sony x900e and the lip sync was off. Sonos app only lets you modify lip sync the opposite that it needed to go so that only makes it worse. I watched a Bluray a couple days ago and the audio seemed fine as well as a few Netflix episodes via the XBox... Maybe I'm just noticing it now. All HDMI connections. Any thoughts? Hoping it will go away.. x_x Also, what should Xbox and X900E settings be? XBox has general sound options for Bitstream - Dolby or 5.1 uncompressed. It has a Bluray specific setting to Let receiver decode audio. The X900E has digital audio out settings for PCM, auto -output compressed audio without change and auto 2-output only compressed audio for multi channel content without change. My thought is that the Xbox needs to be set to bitstream-dolby and uncheck let receiver decode audio for blurays then X900E to PCM out. OR Xbox to uncompressed 5.1 and let receiver decode audio then TV to auto output co

Hey folks, I went to BB fully expecting to love the Playbar. However the demo was lackluster to say the least. I walked away unimpressed. This was surprising because I heard it for music at a friends house and it sounded great. I then walked over to the Bose Soundtouch 300 demo and it blew me away at how good it sounded. Light years ahead of the Sonos. I then tried the Sony Z9F, and while not as good as the Bose, it was better than the Sonos. None of these setups were in special rooms or sound controlled aisles or anything. I then went to 2 other BB's and repeated the experiment and the same was true each time. Based on this, I'm leaning towards going with the Bose setup, however I have some hesitation because the reason I wanted Sonos to begin with (aside from the sound quality I was expecting) was for the reliability of the setup. No wireless issues, etc. The Bose has some related complaints, so I'm hesitant. So, what's the deal? Has Sonos just completely droppe

Setup: Older Sony TV w/o ARC, so I am using the HDMI-to-optical dongle provided in the beam package. To be clear: The TV speakers are “off” via its menu, so it is sending sound via an optical cable to the dongle provided in the Beam package. The sound is fine. Here’s the issue: the Directv controller remains paired with the TV. Although the volume doesn’t change on the tv (because the tv is sending it to the Beam) the TV still shows a volume bar (which is not correkated to the volume at all). The remote is sending IR signal to both the TV and the Beam. Question: can I unpair a Directv remote from the TV volume, so when I click Vol+/- the IR only is recognized by the Beam? I’d rather not see a volume bar on the TV (nothing in the menu to turn it off)

I'm trying to setup my Beam and two ones as surround sound. I've gone through most of the processes but every time I try to enable CEC I get a response on the app that it's not enabled. Sound is coming from the TV through all of the speakers. I have gone into the menu and turned on Audio Out and enabled Simplink. Not sure what to do next...

Controlling Sony tv with alexa

Hi all, I set up my beam earlier today and it generally works fine but does seem to have a recurring issue. It will often go silent then my TV displays "unmute" when the sound comes back on a few seconds later. It also then ungroups the other speakers in my system (I have unticked the option to ungroup when watching the TV) I have a Samsung TV and my beam is connected to a bridge grouped with a couple of play 1s in other rooms in my house. Until today, my system has been rock solid for at least the last 6 months. I've also have reserved ip addresses for them. Diagnostic is 774332081 if someone from Sonos could have a look? I received my white Beam yesterday, but it came with a BLACK power cord. This is the 7th white Sonos product I've purchased, but it is the first and only one that came with a black power cord. Was I provided the wrong color cord, or are there no white power cords for the Beam? My beam is placed above a projector screen, and the power cable runs along a white wall, so I was really expecting it to be white. Thanks.

I have just setup the Sonos beam with my Samsung UE43KS7500 TV. Everything works brilliantly apart from the TV switching to my HDMI 3 (ARC) input after about 10-20 mins of watching TV. Is there any way to stop the TV from auto switch to the Beam input for viewing. Also, is there anyway to turn off the Alex Active white light which is distracting whilst watch TV in a darkened room? I recently bought a new TV , an LG OLED55C7P, and a playbase with two rear play 1 speakers. Everything works great with the TV's onboard Netflix, Amazon, and also my Xbox one. The problem is with my cable. I have optimum. When the Dolby setting is enabled on the cable box the lip sync is all over the place. When I switch the box audio setting off to "other" it becomes stereo instead of surround but the lip sync is fixed. Any suggestions? Cable company says it's the sonos but the lip sync is still an issue with the TVs internal speakers... I have tried the audio settings on the tv but I can't delay it enough. Also I'm a sound designer so I understand frame rate and all that fun stuff.

Hi everyone, I currently have a Sonos Playbar, 2 x Play 3's as Surround and a Sub. The sound quality is amazing for both TV and music. However, I'm now thinking about replacing the Playbar with a Beam. I've read the Beam does not have the same quality as the Playbar, but would the additional Play 3's and Sub make up for any loss? Would there be any difference at all? Has anyone replaced the Playbar with the Beam when they already have Surrounds/Subs? What was your verdict? Thanks Richard

Has anyone had an issue using the internal apps on their LG OLED and the Beam? I find that although the Beam sees DD5.1 something is very wrong sometimes as the sound passed is so quiet on some channels it is impossible to hear without turning it up high and then the loud sounds are way, way too loud. It is like the mix is getting messed up by the TV. Initially I thought it was an issue for all content but subsequent testing using the same apps on Xbox One reveals the sound is significantly better in Dolby Digital via the Xbox than via the TV's internal apps. An example being Dunkirk the start of the film. The sound of the paper blowing in the air is missing using the Rakuten TV app on the TV. Unless you set to stereo. However use the app via the Xbox and you can hear the noise of the paper more clearly. It is a marked difference. I know there is a general DD5.1 voice/effects mixing issue that is inherent in general and that Sonos products not offering tools to defeat this is

I am curious if SONOS thought about how they expect the Playbar to be wall mounted with the wiring concealed. From the looks of it, and the optional wall bracket, they did not think to hard. :) Surely they are aware that if you wish to adhere to electrical codes, you cannot simply run the power cord through the wall. It needs to have an outlet behind the speaker. That is the main concern. And it applies to nearly all soundbars that are powered via high voltage. As a custom installer, I will find a way to do it. I have 2 ideas in mind and will post an update when I have figured it out. But manufacturers need to take some thought about how people are going to use their products and design them accordingly. Stay tuned for "how to mount your playbar, conceal the wiring, and keep it legal". 🙂

Just bought the new beam and not sure how and if we connect this to our existing 3 speakers, seem to have missed those instructions, Beam connected to TV and working fine, but no sound from the play 3s

We have set up the Beam and added a pair of Play 1s but now very little sound comes out of the Play 1s. They were very forceful before individually and as a pair but now as surround speakers they are feeble! Is that right?

Where are the settings on the Sonos App to lower bass at night and to increase vocals?

I bought a "sonos connect".I have connected the cable box to sonos connect using RCA. I could not make it work.

Had the same issue as lots of people trying to get Samsung to link to my new Beam with no luck. Read loads of solutions but finally unplugging everything from the TV except the aerial, switching off everything at the plug, plugged the Beam back into the HDMI Arc and switched the plugs back on. It had a think about it for a minute and then hey presto it worked, the sound suddenly came out the Beam. If in doubt, switch it all off and on again!
