Amazon Alexa and Sonos

Hello FolksCould someone possibly help me please? I haven’t a clue with this unfortunately I possess the following Sonos products playbar (non Alexa)2x play 1s (non Alexa)1 x gen 3 sub (with Alexa)can I control all the devices which are set up for “living room” in the Sonos App with Alexa or must all products be Alexa voice controlled? Do I require a Amazon echo or similar to act as the master? If I require an echo how do I configure the Sonos to it?sorry to ask a dumb questionThanksMartin Stevens  

I have an Amazon “Echo Flex” for Alexa.  It has a silly tiny speaker and I’d like to connect it to my Sonos 5 so that whenever I ask Alexa something, it responds via the Sonos 5 speaker.   The Alexa app supports using WiFi Speakers for voice response output.  However, for the Sonos 5, the option is greyed out.  It says:“Why can't I use my Preferred Speaker?For a speaker to work with an Echo Inout, it must be able to play all audio.  Your Preferred Speaker is only available to certain types of audio, like music and audiobooks.  To use a Preferred Speaker with Echo Input, select an Alexa device with a built-in speaker.” Given that Amazon Alexa has been around for years, I thought that Sonos would have caught up?  The Sonos 5 is such a great speaker.  It seems a shame to have such small modern age issues.  

What is the point of having Alexa built into your Sonos One if you cannot combine it with your existing Echo and/or Echo Plus speakers to be able to play music throughout your house.  I have two recently purchased Sonos One speakers and was getting ready to add the Sonos Play Five, but that decision has been back shelved.  I can’t justify the $550 cost when it cannot be combined with my other Echo speakers for an EVERYWHERE experience when playing music!!! So dissapointed.

Please ask the engineering/coding team to incorporate Amazon’s ability to change the wake word and change the voice settings. Very frustrating that these options still are not included and Sonos is still essentially ensuring the virtual assistant stays gendered. Shouldn’t be that difficult and right now appears to be lack of priority/care. 

My Sonos ARC is connected to a Sony TV with a HDMI cable with ARC.  It is also configured as an Alexa.Sometimes I want the TV to be showing something, but the audio to be separate from the show. Right now it seems to “partially” work.  If I start playing from an Echo (with the Sonos set as the default Alexa speaker) the TV audio is silenced, but the Alexa audio is unheard.  Turning off the Alexa Audio (stop) does not restore the TV audio till I change something on the TV side, and even then, it seems to come back with the Volume at zero. It would be great if I could explicitly state that audio on the Alexa side takes preference in all cases.

I have a large kitchen/diner. I have 2x stereo pairs of Ones- called Kitchen 1 & Kitchen 2 in Sonos.Clearly I now have 4 Alexa’s in the same room but, due to the pairing, the 4 appear as just two Alexa devices in the Alexa app until you click on each ‘Alexa device’ and it has two speakers inside it, both of which can be configured.What I want: a permanent grouping of Kitchen 1 and Kitchen 2 so that whatever I do, they play together, ie. all 4 speakers play (as 2 stereo pairs) all the time under the command of the Sonos app and Alexa.What I get: an infuriating mix of, group them in Sonos, everything works fine… until at a random time when someone says “Alexa play...” it decides to break up the group and play from only one pair until I regroup them in the Sonos app. This is driving my nuts.I have tried what I think is *everything*… but I live in hope that the magic combo is out there somewhere.I have created a room called “Kitchen” in Alexa grouping the two Sonos pairs, Kitchen 1 and

I have a Play 1 and a Beam and Alexa randomly stopped working on both today (have checked the mic is on).I have tried disabling/re-enable the skill, but am getting stuck when trying to enable the skill. I get the “You need to link speakers to your user@example.com Sonos account before you can add this skill.” error even though I can see my devices in the Sonos app fine. Going to the settings of each individual device shows the following under Voice:“There was a problem retrieving Voice Services account information for this room. Please try again” - this was the case before trying to make any changes.What I have done so far:Disabled the Sonos skill in the Alexa app and deleted all Sonos devices from Alexa, logged out and back in to the Alexa app Checked that my Sonos account has a valid postal address (this was suggested as a solution in another thread) Attempted to disable Alexa from within the Sonos app, but it does not show up to allow me to do so - when I go to Settings > Service

I am trying to add my Sonos Beam to an existing (or new) Alexa group, but it does not seem possible.I'm following these steps:On Alexa, go to devices Select the Group Tap Edit Select the Sonos Beam Tap "Save"When I go back to that group, the Beam does not appear under group devices. If I try the above steps again, the Beam does not appear selected (part of the group). This is only a minor inconvenience as it prevents me from using commands such as "Alexa, turn on lights". Instead, I need to be more specific such as "Alexa, turn on living room lights". However, it seems like a bug with the Sonos/Alexa integration and I wanted to bring this up. Are others experiencing the same issue?

A couple of questions re setting up the Sonos system to be able to automatically respond upon a voice request to play:Is it OK to keep Sonos Amp and Sonos Five always on, so that a request via Alexa to associated Amazon Echo to play something on the Sonos equipment (Alexa Group) can be initiated at any time? Or do you typically turn the equipment on each day just prior to asking for something to play? (Amazon Echo is kept on.) Does Sonos Amp and Sonos Five go to sleep after a time of not playing and do they automatically awake when the Alexa command is given to the associated Echo for them to play? (This, to save energy and potentially not overheat internal components vs the always full on state.)Thank you in advance.

Alexa is supposed to be a great addition to Sonos. Are there any plans to add any new streaming services in the near future, eg napster. What about local media playing? These were asked for when alexa was initially introduced. It seems like there haven't been any significant improvements for a long time. Was alexa integration an unnecessary gimmick?

Looking to use Amazon Echo to control Sonos Amp (and/or Sonos 5) via Alexa. I believe the Echo can be connected to the Sonos equipment by wire or wirelessly.Is there some advantages to using a 3.5mm to RCA (Amp) (or 3.5mm (Five)) cable to connect the output from the Echo to the input of the Sonos device (to have it play on the Sonos) vs setting up an Alexa Group to play the sound from the Echo to the Sonos? Would the sound when using a cable be better/worse quality compared to the wireless setup (for streaming music for example)? Overall, what would be the preferred way -- Wired or Wireless? (The devices will be close enough together that either way can be accomplished.)Thanks for your support.

I am looking at adding some Sonos products to enhance the music/radio playing capability in my home.Some questions:Is it possible to use Alexa voice assistant on an Amazon Echo to direct to play (music or radio station) simultaneously (and in sync) on a Sonos Amp (with 4 speakers) and a Sonos 5? Can I have it set up so I can just say “Alexa Play Song X”, and it defaults to playing on the Sonos Amp and Sonos 5 together and in sync. (I understand that it cannot play in sync on the Echo and the Sonos devices, so I would not want the music to play on the Echo when the Sonos devices are playing.) How would I set this up? Do I set up a Sonos Group? Alexa Group? Or Both? What would be the “Preferred Speaker” or “Controlling Speaker”, etc? Can I ask Alexa (via the Echo) to adjust the volume of play on these Sonos devices simultaneously? (e.g., “Alexa, Louder”.)   What if for preferred listening I would like the volume of the Amp to be louder and that of the Sonos 5 to be softer, or vice versa?

So i am just setting up my Sonos App. It is connected to in the ceiling speakers. They worked when i tested them out first thing.Now i am trying to connect to Alexa but it all is going into circles and i am losing my sanity.It keeps asking me to register speakers and gives zero to nothing to explain what on earth they want me to do 😭😭😭

Hi All. I have recently replaced my old Echo device with a Sonos One (Gen 2) in my kitchen. I set up Alexa and it generally works fine, but any moderate background noise renders the microphone useless, and Alexa will not react unless I speak directly into the mic. I also own an Arc and a Roam and both work flawlessly. I have found some threads on here discussing the issue, but it is not clear to me whether this is a general Sonos One problem or whether to consider a replacement unit. Does anyone have a bit more insight? Thank you.

Got a Sonos 1, Gen 2. If I ask Alexa to switch to a different radio channel for example BBC radio 6, the device will tell me 'playing BBC radio 6 via BBC Sounds' (also happens with any other station via Tune In, Global etc) but then continues playing what's currently on and not switching. Likewise if I request to play something on Spotify, the response is 'sorry, this device is offline' which it isn't. Quite perplexing. Anyone else experience this or got any fix ideas please? Thanks

I am about to buy a Sonos Connect Gen 1 and I was wondering if I he was possible to connect my Alexa speakers to it to make the speakers not to control?

With Amazon Echo and Sonos 5 (and Spotify Premium and Alexa Sonos Skill and Spotify Skill), I would like to:Ask Alexa (via the Echo) to play (a Spotify album or a TuneIn Radio Station for example) on Echo and Sonos 5 simultaneously (separate rooms but in sync). Ask Siri via iPhone to play (Spotify) on my Echo and Sonos 5 simultaneously (separate rooms but in sync).Is it possible to have this? How would one set it up (is it just a “group” in Sonos or Alexa)? What is the best way to get a set up to easily use voice to simultaneously play on several speakers in sync?Thanks.

I’ve got a bunch of Sonos speakers in my house that I love, tied to a paid Amazon Music subscription. In the last couple months Alexa has started to mix up music requests.  If I say something like “Alexa, play songs by The Beatles,” the system will play one song by the Beatles, then a piece of classical music, then another song by the Beatles, then a song by Billy Joel and so on. Sometimes it doesn’t even play a song by the Beatles to begin with: it’ll just play something that seems vaguely related, like Bob Dylan.  It’s as if I’ve got an invisible music queue somewhere that’s getting new requests mashed in among the old ones whenever I ask Alexa to play something. When Alexa is playing music, though, the queue in my Sonos app isn’t available. I’ve tried clearing my Sonos queue when Alexa isn’t playing, and that doesn’t seem to help.  Any ideas? Connectivity is good, and every other feature of the system is working as expected. 

Hi all , I've enabled Alexa on my beam gen 2 and wondered if enabling Alexa would stop the system going in to low power mode ?? Also how do I know if my beam is in low power mode because nothing states that it is ?? Also apart from controlling the volume I presume it's just Spotify and web radio that Alexa will control because it doesn't turn off my TV ..…Thanks 

My main room TV audio is connected through eARC with Sonos (Arc, Sub, Plays) and other rooms in my place have HomePods.  If I am trying to play music throughout the house if I am in-between the room where the Sonos Speakers are and the HomePods are there is a distinct delay in what is being played even though they are all being airpplayed through the same device.  This just may be another case of HomePods and Sonos just don’t match well together, but any help would be great- thank you!

I have a set up of Arc, Sub and two OneSLs.  Trying to change speaker that Alexa uses from Arc to one of the One SLs.  Tried to remove and reinstall but it does not offer another choice.

Using Alexa on Sonos Move for over a year. Alexa responds to all commands but has stopped playing music. Amazon do not seem able to resolve. Have sent diagnostic report no. 1562731469 through Sonos app. Hoping you can help as not very technically minded!?

I have the Sonos Beam & Roam. It plays Apple Music through the app… BUT it will not play Apple Music through voice controlled Alexa on the Beam or Roam. I have disabled services, disabled skills, deregistered devices, deleted apps, reset services and it will not work. HELP! PLEASE!

Hello! I have a Beam and a Roam, and I would love them to work with Alexa as just speakers, not microphones. I don’t want to ever have Alexa’s voice coming out of my Sonoses.For example, I’d like to tell my Echo Dot, “Alexa, play a song on the Roam,” and for it to only PLAY there. I do not want the Sonos to serve as the Alexa, only the Echo Dot. Is this possible?
