Do I have to use Alexa to listen to Amazon Prime Music?

Can I play my iTunes library through sonos using Alexa ?

I purchased a pair of Sonos One's about a month ago but have been unable to use Alexa on them because they can't hear me unless I'm standing literally right next to them. An update was released, 8.2.1, and I'm really anxious to get it to see if it helps fix this problem so I can start using them. So I go to Sonos app, press 'update now' -> tap the button update -> then it asks me to open in App Store -> I'm at the Sonos Controller app and press open -> takes me back to where I started in the Sonos app asking me to 'update now'. So basically I'm unable to get the update because it keeps taking me through this endless cycle. So not only is the Sonos One defective but the update is defective too?? Or am I somehow doing something wrong?

Hi All, Hopefully you will be able to help. I bought the Sonos One and went through the set up all great. One week later Alexa responds to commands and will play music on other speakers but if you ask her to play music on the Sonos One it says playing music but nothing happens. Alarms etc work but not music. Can start music manually with the app and tried deleting and restarting. The Sonos One replaced my play 1 which has moved location and been renamed. Any advice much appreciated. Ade

I have Pandora selected as my default music service. However, unless I say “From Pandora” when giving the command, Alexa is always playing from Amazon. The only time this isn’t the case is when my Pandora station doesn’t share the same name of an Amazon station. For instance, if I say “Alexa, play New Age on office” it plays from Amazon, I’m guessing because it’s defaulting to Amazon’s generic genre station rather not than my Pandora one. However, if I say, “Alexa, play Accoustic New Age Radio on office” it grabs my station from Pandora. So the default music service only sorta works, at least for me.

Im looking to see if anyone has any information from sonos on whether they intend to implement the ability to use the one and play one as a stereo pair. I purchased the one for this exact reason and Im fairly surprised and disappointed that its not available. I can see from other posts that there is no work around, but im curious if anyone has a hack and/or have sonos given any intimation of whether they will be implementing this.

Color me surprised. I always in a snarky way ask for a briefing and this time I got one! With external audio and everything. A day earlier than planned even. Alas. Things like Sleepsounds, etc. audio from other apps is not working for me. But. Sat there surprised and happy that without a software update I was finally getting a flash briefing. Now if I can get sleep sounds. Yay!

Have a weird situation: My Sonos One has been working great with Alexa, but all of a sudden it interacts with me fine, but when I ask it to play music, it confirms what it's going to play, but I never hear anything. The Alexa app shows everything as normal, and of course I can use the Sonos app directly to push music to the speaker but for some reason Alexa isn't cooperating with the Sonos One. Again, if I talk to the unit, it responds and acts exactly as I would expect and other Amazon Echo units in the house work just fine. Any suggestions, ideas, thoughts on what might be happening?

If I ask for the weather on my Echos and Dots, I get it for my UK location. If I ask for it on my Sonos Ones I get it for Seatle, and the Alexa app won't let me save a changed location for the Sonos Ones. This is what Amazon support say: "From your email I understood that your Alexa device is giving you the wrong weather information. I can definitely help you with this. "If you're unable to edit the device location on your Sonos speaker with Alexa, is because this device hasn't been completely released on United Kingdom" Any idea when Sonos will get this working on their devices?

When the integration was first released, my playbar in the lounge would lower volume when my echo dot heard the wake word. It still works this was in another room, but has stopped working in the lounge. I've tried disabling the Sonos skill and re-enabling, to no avail. Has anything changed in the way this should work? Has anyone else experienced similar?

Hi all, is there a possibility to connect Sonos One / Alexa with Apple Home or even with the Elgato Eve controls? Thanks for help. Peter

I have 3 x sonos1 and usually stream music from Spotify. I have just ordered the Amazon Dot. My understanding is that Sonos with talk and connect with Alexa - but I will not be able to stream music from Spotify through Sonos by commanding Alexa as Sonos does not yet support this function... Have I understood correctly? Example: I wont be able to say "Alexa, play Elton John from Spotify" as Spotify cant be controlled by Alexa to wirelessly play through Sonos at the moment, but this update is coming at some point... I hope I've made my question clear! haha.

Surely the Sonos Three and Sonos Five are inevitable, what does everyone else think. If so it's gonna annoy alot of Play:5 Gen2 owners!

Will you be able to work with Amazon that will allow output from Echo Dots to SONOS speakers directly. I currently have 2 dots, one is connected to the Lounge Play:5 via Aux, and one in the bedroom but I only have Play:1s there, but as you know it they don't have Aux inputs but it would be useful if the audio output could be configured to temporarily use DNLA to output Alexa requests.

I have been waiting for voice control on Sonos for a while. Now we have it.. fantastic.... or maybe not? Still we wait for Spotify support. I don’t have pandora or amazon music. Although you can start Spotify from the app then use voice control to skip through tracks and control volume I just don’t see the point if you can’t start music with Alexa. I

Can you please give an update when Spotify will be available through the Alexa / Sonos setup. I’d like to get an alexa dot for my daughter’s birthday by way of controlling her Sonos speaker. “Soon” is not a very specific answer, would be grateful if you can elaborate on ETA please.

Hi on my new SONOS one a few of the skills don't seem yet to work. The most basic ones that is broken is that of setting a timer. If I say "Alexa set a timer for one minute" then the SONOS one/Alexa recognises this (and indeed these words are recorded/transcribed on my Alexa app), but immediately after Alexa confirms with "One minute, starting now" I get an error "Sorry I'm having some trouble" and no timer sounds. Anyone else have this? Shame, its potentially one of the mos tuseful functions given we have the SONOS One in our kitchen

Getting Sonos working with PCs

Hi, I have a ZP120 & ZP100's playing through ceiling mounted speakers. Can I buy an Amazon Echo to simiply add voice control to these? Are these older Sonos amps compatible with Alexa in the same way as newer Sonos products? (i.e. I don't want to have to connect via the line in on the ZP120/ZP100's to make it work.) I quite like the idea of ceiling mounting an Echo Dot to do this. Will Alexa automatically always speak through the speakers connected the the ZP120/ZP100, or would I have to issue a voice command to Alexa to connect (or play through) Sonos each time (as I have seen other people have to do when using an Echo with a bluetooth speaker)? I also have another question: I have noticed that when a friend is playing their Echo through a Bluetooth speaker, turning down the volume on the speaker turns down Alexa's voice, so that you can no longer here her! Does an Alexa / Sonos system have the same issue? Or can you turn the music volume down on the app, or Sonos volume

hi there, got the sonos one a few weeks ago and as much as i love it, today it has all of a sudden decided 'sorry i'm having trouble understanding right now, please try a little later' and has changed to the american voice, when i had it set up to the english voice. Tried disabling the skills, deleted the app, nothing thats worked in the past with minute problems seems to be working this time. What else is there to try?

Is it possible to ask Alexa to play everywhere instead of specific rooms?

sonos one just installed on my PC, plays music fine, why wont alexa respond?

I asked this in troubleshooting before realising there was a separate topic for this. We bought a sonos 1 at the weekend to add to our sonos system of 2 play 1s, 2 play 3s and a play 5. The speaker is labelled “kitchen”. It works as a sonos speaker through the sonos app, but we can’t make Alexa play any music. Alexa can answer questions about the weather etc, but doesn’t seem to be linked with sonos at all. We haven’t set up a music account that works through it yet (we have been using deezer), but that isn’t the issue. It won’t link with sonos at all. Eg- If we start music through the sonos app and ask Alexa to stop playing it says “I can change the playback mode only when music is playing”. Which it is. If we ask Alexa to play radio 1 it says “bbc radio 1 from tune in playing in kitchen”. But then “sorry, something went wrong”. And plays nothing. In Smart Home Alexa can see all the speakers. Tried activating and deactivating the sonos skill. But- under Settings

I read the other day that it was possible to try Alexa with Sonos through the Alex app without even having a dedicated Alexa device. I have installed the Sonos skill in the Alexa app and linked my Amazon account with Sonos. Unfortunately when I attempt to discover devices it just says "Discovery failed". Did I read misinformation about using the Alexa app as the listening device without even having an Amazon device? I'm thinking about getting an Amazon Echo dot as it's currently reduced from £50 to £35 as a black Friday deal. I wanted to get a feel for how it works with Sonos without splashing the cash. When I ask Alexa to play music on my sonos one, she responds affirmatively but then nothing happens after that. Sample response - “Shuffling songs by Odesza in Office”. (Band = odesza, room = office). Tried this with a couple different bands also. This worked fine probably 4-5 days ago. Alexa responds to questions like “what’s the weather” and the sonos one works when I use the app. Anyone else seeing this?
