Amazon Alexa and Sonos

Added Sonos skill to my alexa app. Skill says it recognises my Sonos but when i ask Alexa to play something it doesn't come through Sonos. Cant figure out where I'm going wrong. Can anyone give me some advice?

Alexa on Sonos One does not have access to exactly the same Music Sources that Sonos does. For example, Alexa cannot access my DLNA or Plex Media server or my hard drives where the files are saved. This is a feature that needs to be added.

I've had Alexa working fine for long periods but it stops working. It repeats the command but does nothing. Eg i say "alexa play rolling stones" it repeats command back saying "playing rolling stones on Spotify in kitchen" but then nothing happens. I then have disabled the skill, then readded it, removed the device and readded it, removed link to Alexa and readded it, turned off and on again. Works again for a bit then mysteriously stops working. I have to repeat all steps above for it to work again. Annoying as it's good when it's working

So will I am waiting (and waiting) for Alexa to play from my NAS drive, I'm tempted to sign up for Amazon Music unlimited for a few months but will it be able to play playlists from that account ? thanks David

Went thru the Alexa app setup steps for connecting to my existing Sonos Connect. Setup was quick and easy. I noticed after the setup in the Alexa app that I could not get music services to stream to the Sonos Connect and that the queue in the Alexa app seemed to be locked or frozen. Long story short, what I did was deleted the Sonos skill and device from the Alexa app and factory reset my Sonos Connect. Re-setup my Sonos and then started the install of the Sonos skill within the Alexa app. I noticed that as I was adding the Sonos skill that the process was slightly different and at one point it directed me back to Sonos to login in and link my speaker to my account thru the Beta program. Followed the process and now I have voice control of my Sonos Connect thru both my Amazon Echo and Echo dot. Anyways this worked for me.

Will there be any other Sonos One updates with the Spotify release on December 21st? Or will it be strictly focused on Spotify? Just curious if any other new Alexa functions will be added.

Sonos Please Fix: When I play a playlist via Alexa it plays and I am able to use command “Alexa, Next” to play next song. But when I play a playlist from the app, the same command does not work. Alexa’s reply is, “what do you want to play?” Pretty annoying. So in order for you to use commands like “next”,”previous song” etc you have to initially have music play from Alexa and not app.

I have a connect that drives my whole house music library. I have music in 4 rooms. I added 3 echo dots on my main rooms. When steaming from an amazon music station, the only thing I can get Alexa to do on the connect is to skip forward. If I ask Alexa to play a song that I know is in my library, she starts it on the internal speaker, but not the connect. Originally the 3rd echo day was called "library". Then the SONOS group was also called library. I can't seem to change the SONOS group name, so I changed the dot name. Still no luck. My voice command is "Alexa, play Boston, Don;t look Back" in Library". She plays it on the Dot speaker (now) called Study. Any ideas?

Hi, Sonos promised in several places that Flash briefing will be available on Sonos One by 21st Nov. I am in UK and I could not get this to work this morning. Are you still on track for enabling this today?

How do I play my Napster playlist on my Sonos players controled via Alexa

I have been playing Spotify through my Sonos One using the Spotify Connect feature but now that Alexa + Spotify has been added I was excited about starting/controlling music directly from the One. Unfortunately, if I ask the One to "Play X on Spotify" it will say "Playing X from Spotify on Office (the name of my One) but then it takes no action and does not play any music. Additionally, if I start playing music from Spotify Connect I cannot control it with my voice/alexa. Eg. - Music is playing via Spotify connect and I ask the One "Next" it acts as if no music is playing and asks me "What do you want to play". Please help! Cheers, Andy

Hi, I am a total newbie to Sonos & just purchased a Sonos One. I am gong to buy an Echo Dot. I am an Apple Music subscriber & want to know if when linked to my Sonos, will Echo Dot give me full voice control of my Apple Music ?

Just thought I would add a positive regarding the new Sonos One. Only had it for 2 days but I find it a superb piece of kit. Yes, there will be work in progress, and it will change, but overall it works very well for me. Might even get another one as the wife has collared this one! Doubt it will be discounted for Black Friday?

Do we need to be involved in BETA testing on Sonos to hook up the Amazon Echo Plus to control Sonos and is this operational in Ontario Canada ??

Hi, I am curious about how well the new echo dot works with Sonos play 1. Can anyone tell me of their experience? I would be mostly using it for a Spotify if I am using this in a one room only set up is there a need to specify which room when using the voice commands? Thanks

I just replaced an Echo + Play 3 with a new Sonos One. I had the Alexa integration working perfectly. Before the new install I had disabled the Sonos Alexa skill, but now I can't re-enable it. When I do, I get stuck on the the "Add your Sonos speakers to your account" screen. I've tried all of the debugging steps, and it looks to me like my Sonos One is connected to my account. Any suggestions?

Just purchased my first sonos. The sound is amazing. I went for the one with Alexa built in and this is where I’m having problems, when I’m asked to enable skills it takes me to the Alexa app and ask’s me to set up a device but there is no option for the sonos one so I can’t go any further with the set up, I have spoken to amazon and a sonos expert both of these people tried their best but were no help. I really would like to keep this as I think it could be an amazing speaker but I wanted to enjoy the whole experience. I’m considering giving up and returning it, this forum is my last hope.

I currently have two play 1's in stereo and a play 3 (that was delivered today). Normally when the wife goes to sleep we play something soothing on the Echo dot from one of the many sounds under Ambient Sounds skill (thunder in this case). Before this worked perfect and is a driving reason why she likes the Echo's and wants to like the Sonos speakers. Now after it starts on the Sonos speakers we then tell Echo dot to loop and it acknowledges the loop. However, once it cycles once it doesn't loop again on the play 1's its just silent. Does anyone else have any issues like this? Hello! I have a problem with my german echo dot 2. I live in Switzerland. I try to configure my echo dot with my computer because Alexa app for ios is not available in my country. It's not possible to have the english language. I must change settings to german. If I dont' do that the skills are not available... It's a big problem because I don't speak a word of german.. I have another problem too. If I try to configurate in german it's ok i see the Sonos skill but i have a message when I click the button "Enable" : "Unable to open new browser window. Please make sure popus are enabled in your browser". I have Firefox and I have "disactivate" Adblock. Please can you help me? Thanks in addvance... Just another thing : If I configurate the Sonos skill in german is it possible to turn back the language in english when the skill is configurate..??

Hi, I am having two major issues with the Alexa Sonos integration: 1) Most of the time, despite Alexa recognising my command correctly nothing reaches my Sonos players. I often have to repeat my command 2 or 3 times before anything starts playing. Alexa will say "x by the b playing on player" after I give it the command but a lot of the time nothing plays. 2) When I do eventually get an album, artist or station playing via Alexa it always seems to stop playing after the first track. Are these known issues or is there something wrong with my setup? I had lots of difficulties getting set up initially as discovery kept on finding both my players and my parents players. My parents inherited some players from myself so they had the same household id as myself. Eventually I think I managed to get their players associated with their own Sonos account I think. I'm wondering if my account is somehow still associated with their players and that I am having issues as I originall

Hi Sonos (I hope you read this).. I'm returning my Sonos One today, but as part of the return procedure, I didn't get a chance to say why, so here are the reasons - treat is as bit of product feedback. First of all, the Alexa trigger word rarely works properly. The One seems deaf to it most of the time and I have to keep repeating it and/r shouting at the One to get it to trigger - even in a quiet room. I had an Echo in the same place, and rarely got the same issue. Also, when the TV is on, the One will trigger Alexa constantly. During an evening, it will 'bleep' at me 20-30 times. Alexa doesn't continue to listen, so you rarely get Alexa replying with something, but the beep is annoying. Kind of ironic that it will miss-trigger so often, but not trigger when you want it to. All that said, the audio quality is so much better than the Echo, and I like the idea that the One becomes a speaker on my network (so I can use it with other things like SmartThings apps). We have an 8 zone Sonos system made up, mostly, of pairs of Play:1's and Play:5's. We also have a number of Dots scattered around the house, so was looking forward to the Alexa integration. Annoyingly though, I think I'm going to have to switch off the integration until the software comes out of beta. For me, the show-stopper is the way all the Sonos speakers reduce in volume if any Alexa in the house is used. For example, my home office is on the top floor of the house, and it's very annoying when I'm listening to the radio, and suddenly, for no apparent reason, the volume drops significantly just because my wife has added something to the Alexa shopping list in the kitchen, or because the kids have asked Alexa a question from the family room (rooms which are far away!). This seams like a crazy oversight on the part of the developers. Is there anything I'm missing? For example, surely an easy work around would be an option to not drop the volume at all, even if the Alexa *i

I am having a party with a lot of commotion going on and would like to somehow disable the microphone so Alexa is not accidentally prompted. On my echo I can simply press the microphone button but not the case here. Prefer not to remove the Alexa feature because I still want it for my other sonos devices in other rooms.

I have 2 Play:3 and 2 Play:1. I can't stretch to the new Sonos with built in Alexa, so I'm considering an Amazon Echo Dot. I have a Spotify Premium subscription and normally use that when playing music through my Sonos system. My question is, could I use an Echo Dot to voice control the Sonos i.e. can I tell Echo to tell Sonos to play music from Spotify. And if that is possible, is it the Sonos system that's streaming the music from Spotify, or is it the Echo which is streaming it and then passing it on to Sonos?
