Hi. Im looking in to getting an amp for my bookshelf stereo speakers (B&W CM5) and the Connect:AMP looks really interesting to me. Does anyone know if there would be a delay playing the sound from the line in directly to the speakers? I know that if I want to have the sound distributed to other sonos speakers via network there will be a delay but can I choose to only play the sound on the connected speaker directly? If this works, I could use my CM5 speakers as computer speakers for gaming and so on with no delay, and if I want, also use them in my multi room setup together with my Sonos play 1 (with the usual delay). Correct? Appreciate any answers, I would really want this to work 🙂

I need urgent assistance, just installed a whole house Sonos system for an important client. All Sonos devices except 2 Sonos subs are hardwired to a manageable Ubiquity switch. I had the network engineer configure all the ports that support Sonos devices to STP path cost 10 including the ports that support the 2 CONNECT units. The 2 CONNECT units have been placed in a server rack right next to the network switch, router and an amplifier that is fed by the 2 CONNECT units. Everything was working absolutely fine until I disconnected the 2 CONNECT units to make some adjustments to the amp. When I reconnected and rebooted the CONNECT units, the lights go to solid white but the zones they represent (Pool and Deck) have disappeared. I noticed the Pool zone appear and when I try and play music it does not work and then suddenly disappears from the controller. I have a HP 1920-24G as core switch and am adding a HP 1810-8G to replace an unmanaged switch in a media room. The 1920 has 4 ZPs directly wired to it. The 1810 is at the end of a drop from the 1920. On the 1810, I have a Connect attached, which also has a line in from the media amplifier. The Connect also provides sonosnet connectivity to a pair of Play 3's and one Play 5 that are too far from the switch/ZP area. To get the setup working, I disabled wifi (sonosnet) on the 4 wired ZPs and enabled STP on the 1920 and on the 1810. I set the priority of the 1920 at 4096 and the priority of the 1810 as 8128. The system is operable (no diabling broadcast storms), but the Connect is showing up as root on the Sonos STP, not the HP 1920. My understanding is that the MAC of the 1920 should be the system root. In the 1920 diagnostic file and on the 1810 configuration page, it appears that the 1920 is root - it's just in the Sonos STP output that the 1920 is not root. In screen

I have an in home system setup with speakers throughout the house in the ceiling. The rooms that have ceiling speakers have wall plate switches to turn the sound on or off and volume control. They do not allow you to change channels, select music etc... this can only be done from one source at the main outlet. I currently only have one control station that I can hook up any type of sound like a stereo, directv, ipod etc.. to provide sound to those speakers. I would like to be able to control the input wirelessly from anywhere with my phone and select whatever source I choose like pandora, amazon etc.. Is there a product that will let me do that? Apologies for the question. I do have a real question though, and it’s two boost related. I live in an old house with thick walls. I have a garden office 20m from the house. Everything is wired up with CAT6, including the garden office. Initial setup was a Connect in the conservatory wired to the router, two play 1’s in the kitchen (stereo pair), a play 3 in the living room and another Connect upstairs. This sort of worked but the kitchen 1’s and the upstairs connect would regularly lose connection. To fix this, I bought a Boost, and this is now connected to the Router instead of the Connect. This has fixed the connection problem in the house, but I cannot get a reliable connection to the Connect in the garden office. Any thoughts on how I could improve things? I did wonder if I could move the Boost from the house to the Garden, and connect it to the wired network from their but I fear I will then be back to the same problem in the house. I recently replaced some aging Dell PowerConnect Managed Ethernet Switches with three tp-link managed Switches. 1. Master Switch - T2600G-52TS 48 Port Managed Switch 2. Satellite Switch #1 - T2600-28TS 28 Port Managed Switch 3. Satellite Switch #2 - T2500G-10TS 10 Port Managed Switch All switches are fanless. I powered down all SONOS components and then added them back in one at a time. Does anyone have experience of separate Sonos system on different SSId's with uninfy/ ubiquity WiFI

i have a bunch of sonos. now also 2 play5 in other building beside my house which most of sonos is on one access point in this building 2 i have another wifi access point and on the same Lan network , and controlled by the same dhcp router but in building 2 i can only connect the 2 play5 using wired connection i would really prefer not to use cables in building2 anybody got an instruction of how to make this work ? , i have heard something of using same ssid on the 2 accespoints and something more .

Building a new home and went with a modest amount of distributed audio in the house but will be bringing 3 Sonos Play 1s to the new house. Here is the setup. How will I need to power the in-ceiling speakers and utilize the best setup for whole-home setup. Outdoor Living area- Set of in-ceiling speakers Kitchen- Set of in-ceiling speakers Master Bath- Set of in-ceiling speakers Master Bedroom- Two Play 1 sonos wireless speakers Office- 1 sonos Play 1. Living Room- I may get a Sonos Playbar but hate how tall and bulky it is. Has anyone utilized a smaller, sleeker surround bar directly connected to the TV above it, but then connected it to a sonos Connect that way it serves dual purpose. Connected directly to the TV for better TV sound but the Connect allows it to be used as a sound source in that room. I have used my Sonos equipment for 10 months without any problem, it has worked perfectly with my Linksys Wireless router (and my previous DSL service). Yesterday however, I changed my internet/tv provider to AT&T U-verse and my Sonos Desktop Controller can no longer find my ZoneBridge or my ZonePlayers. Nothing seems to be working. AT&T U-verse comes with a wireless router which has replaced my old Linksys router (this is probably where the problem lies). Does anyone know the answer to this? My ZoneBridge is hardwired to the at&t "2wire" router, everything is physically hooked up correctly, but is not working (maybe an IP address problem). I appreciate any help that I can get, thanks. Update: for some reason, now the Sonos equipment has contact with the router ... everything seems to be working now EXCEPT for the Sonos DESKTOP Sontroller (which still is "searching for the Zonebridges/-players

Hi all, I'm currently confused by what my Sonos system (or rather, its software) is trying to tell me. I just updated my server's OS a few days ago, when suddenly Sonos wasn't able to access the Samba/NAS share on that device any more, stating access was denied. I removed my music library folder using the Sonos App (on my Windows PC) and tried to re-add it, again resulting in an "Access denied" error. The same occurs when I try to re-add my NAS folder via Android App. The directory permissions in the (path to the) Samba share folder were not altered, and also the smb.conf file was not modified in any way. Accessing the Samba-enabled folders on my server still works fine from my Windows PC as well. Does anyone have an idea what else may be the reason for the sudden loss of access to my Samba share folder?

I use Apple TV and Playstation vue for my tv. I have surround speakers hooked up to my Connect:AMP. Normally the apple TV remote controls the volume through the speakers on the TV. I see some articles on programming it control the Playbar but is there any way to program the Apple TV remote to control the volume through the Connect:AMP? If you set the TV to "External Speakers" you get a "Not available" every time you hit the volume buttons on the Apple remote. As it is now, I'm left adjusting volume for TV via the Sonos app on my phone (which is inconvenient if you don't have your phone in your pocket 24/7). Thanks

Maybe I am the only one who is disconnecting his Sonos (connect) from the power source, but what I would like is that I could define a default source that starts playing when I turn on the power on my Sonos.

Has anyone tried two connect amps as the same room? I currently have one connect amp driving four separate speakers in my yard. I'd like to add another amp and remove the splice but don't want two separate volumes/rooms.

I'm using a Connect to switch between TV audio (line-in) and other traditional Sonos sources. I find the minimum 70ms delay on the line-in input to be maddening. While it occasionally works out that audio/video are reasonably sync'd, more times than not the Connect noticeably degrades A/V sync. Additionally, if other televisions are on in adjacent rooms (common occurrence) the delay in the Connect creates an obvious audio sync problem between devices. After having read the forums, etc. I understand some of the technical reasons for the delay; I’m not proposing we violate the laws of space/time. What I am proposing is a dual-mode line-in function. The primary mode would work exactly as it does now (ability to share Connect line-in with all Sonos components). The secondary mode would be a local only mode (no sharing) and would forgo the analog to digital conversion process and simply provide direct analog amplification for the line input. I'm trying to chase a problem that is caused by either my Sonos system or my mesh WiFi system. To help me do this I need to understand how Sonos uses IP addresses. I suspect that Sonos changes the way it uses IP addresses depending upon the configuration and upon changes to configurations. I would like to understand what happens to IP addresses with the following configurations: Standard Setup - does each speaker have a unique IP address Boost Setup - do all speakers have the same IP address Surround Sound Group - do all speakers in a surround sound group have the same IP address Stereo Parings - do both speakers in a stereo group have the same IP address Group - when speakers are grouped together do they maintain their unique IP addresses Also, what happens to IP addresses when speakers are moved into and out of Groups, into and out of Stereo Parings, into and out of Surround Sound Groups, from Standard Setup to Boost Setup and from Boost Setup to Standard Setup. It looks like with 8.0, Sonos has removed almost all of the diagnostic information from http://HOSTNAME_OR_IP:1400/support/review In particular the anacapa.trace files aren't visible anymore, which I've always found useful for seeing what's going on. Anyone else noticed any other changes that us end-users could use to help ourselves?

We bought a new Rock-Ola cd jukebox for our restaurant and I want to play our playlist through it. When someone throws a coin in the jukebox the juke takes priority and it must switch back automatically to playlist when when cd is not playing. Well, I got from Rock-Ola that this is possible (Their answer: Play it as a background with your device. It will play until you make a selection on the jukebox. The jukebox takes priority. Then it will go back to background after all songs selected are finished.) Now my question; has anyone else done this and knows exactly what sonos products we need for this? Supplier recommended a sonos base station – but what's that:?

Can someone help me figure out how to do this well? I often host streaming parties where we use an app on the AppleTV to watch live concerts. I have a very good audio setup in my main viewing room that plays the TV audio via HDMI from the AppleTV to my receiver. I would like to be able to also stream this audio to my Sonos units throughout the house. I did this successfully once by running a 1/8" cable from the headphone out of my TV to the input of the Sonos Connect. For some reason that worked once and then I could never repeat the setup. The AppleTV has optical out and HDMI out (currently to my home theater). I have a receiver with every input imaginable, a Connect and a Connect:AMP. I'm willing to do some rewiring of my normal setup for these events, but I do need to make sure I still have audio coming out of the home theater speakers. Ideas? Thanks!

I have an old RCA Victor Record Console with a record player, AM/FM Stereo and integrated speakers. Several years ago I added an input to allow it to play music from my iPod. Now I want to know if I can somehow connect it to my Sonos Connect:Amp and allow me to listen to records on the integrated speakers and the speakers connected to my Connect:Amp. Has anyone successfully done this?

Hello all, I am building a new house and have prewired for in ceiling audio. My current speaker runs are as followed: 2 speakers in main living area 1 speaker in guest bath 1 speaker in office 1 speaker in master 1 speaker in master bath 1 speaker in soffit over deck Due to size, I only prewired 1 speaker to certain rooms as can be seen above. That said, what is a basic configuration for Sonos with this setup and how can I power all speakers with one Sonos system? Also, if possible, I would like 4 zones that can be played either simultaneously or separately. Please note I’m a compete newbie at this.. Thanks!

Sonos compatriots, I set up a lot of Sonos systems for my clients and want to maximize their WiFi speed as well as provide for a reliable Sonos System operation. I always make sure the WiFi is operating in channels that don't interfere with the Sonos. So... typically with 802.11ac WiFi networks, I will setup the Sonos on SonosNet channel 11 (aka NOT using WiFi at all), and set the WiFi on channel 1 Wide-channel (20/40Mhz on the 2.4GHz band) and channel 153 (20/40/80Mhz on the 5GHz band). With this setup, I am confident that in the 2.4GHz I have minimized the chance of interference between the Sonos and WiFi, but on the 5GHz band, I don't know what frequencies SonosNet operates in. So..., when I have a "bonded" system setup with a Playbar and Sub/surrounds, what actual frequencies does SonosNet use? I am interested in the best possible WiFi speed and the least inteference and what frequencies to set the WiFi to operate in. Thanks, Carl

Hi, I have recently shifted into a new house which has a new WIFI. I am trying to connect my Sonos system to this new wifi system however when I use my Sonos Controller (app on the phone), it indicates that someone is already using my WiFi for their own Sonos System. Through the app, I am able to control their Sonos system but I am not able to add my Sonos system in my own WiFi. Is there a way to remove the Sonos system which is using my Wifi so that I can configure my own Sonos System on my wifi. I have tried to reset the router, change the name of the WiFi and changing the password of the WiFi. The person is still able to set up his Sonos System on my WiFi. Please help me find a solution as I would like to be able to set up my Sonos System as soon as possible. Kind Regards.

I had a similar problem to the WBUR listener in another thread -- my local NPR station broadcasts MP3, but only in 16Khz, which Sonos will grudgingly attempt to play, but it doesn't work very well. So I did some fooling around on my linux machine, and managed to produce an icecast stream reesampled to 128k at 44.1Khz. I can go into more detail about how that all works if anyone is interested. It's pretty kludgey at the moment, but I'm just trying to figure out what's possible. In theory, this would work for just about any stream, since mplayer can produce PCM audio from lots of formats. My stream uses mpg123 to pull in the stream off the net, feeds it as PCM to lame, which reencodes to the proper rates and sends it off to a FIFO, which is what icecast broadcasts. So the problem I have now seems to be beyond my ability to fix. My icecast stream works great on this machine and on my wireless laptop played through xmms. But on sonos, it skips and stutters terribly. I know it's not a
