Hey guys, I recently bought a Sonos Beam (around a week ago) and although the sound is great, I am still having the same issue I was having prior to even having a soundbar, which was the main reason I bought one in the first place. I have Voice Enhacement enabled and even 'Night Mode' where it supposedly suppresses louder noises and raises lower volumes. But I am having constant issues with still having to adjust the sound constantly throughout watching a film/TV show. The dialogue is perfect but then any music or sound effect comes on and it is craaaaaaazy loud. I've looked on the SONOS app and cannot find any fix or solution to this. Unless I'm missing something. I am very concerned and am unfortunately considering returning this for another soundbar with more in-depth controls. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I have a Apple TV connected via hdmi to my Samsung TV and then the beam connected HDMI-ARC to the Samsung TV. When I play Dolby Digital content it works. However, when I plug my Xfinity (Arris XG1v4) to the Samsung TV. I go in the settings and it only allows me to select stereo or audio expert mode. I select audio expert mode and then my tv has Dolby Digital grayed out. No way to get my cable box to send the DD5.1 signal to my Beam. Has anyone had this issue with Comcast Xfinity? I am going to pick up another box XG1v3 and give that a try today.

Hello, this subject may already be covered elsewhere in a post, but let me explain what I am trying to do first. I recently cut the cord from U-Verse, they sucked, done. I signed up with DirecTV Now, loving it. I am currently using the Apple TV 3rd Gen I believe that does not have the optical out, therefore I am running an HDMI Audio extractor, which optical is going directly to Sonos Playbar, which I have 2 Play:1’s as surrounds and the Sub. In my Apple menu under sound I have 5.1 Surround option on. It sounds good, I could live with, but am I getting true Surround this way? Is there a test I could perform to determine that all 5 channels are working? I performed an experiment where I redirected an optical cable from TV through a TOSLINK switcher, and when I jump between the extractor and the TV optical out, the extractor sound is much better. I currently have the sonos beam and 2 sonos one speakers. I'm planning on purchasing the sub asap to create 5.1 surround sound but I wondered if I was to purchase another 2 sonos one speakers, could they all link together to create a 7.1 surround sound system ?

Hi all: I've got an interesting problem. I have my Beam connected to my (CEC-enabled) Samsung TV via HDMI-ARC. I then have my Apple TV plugged into the TV via HDMI. I got everything to work when switching the Apple TV on with it's remote, which then turns the TV on automatically and enables the Beam. It also works in reverse when turning the TV off with the remote. Secondly, when everything is off and I stream Apple Music from my phone to the Beam (via Airplay 2), the music plays great. Note, the TV is not on when playing music. Now, the problem: after streaming music and wanting to go back and watch Apple TV...the Apple TV remote function described above does not work. Is the Beam somehow switching the TV input (despite it being off) when I stream music since it is plugged into HDMI-ARC? Then the Apple TV doesn't recognize the TV because the TV is on the HDMI-ARC input (the Beam) rather than the Apple TV input (regular HDMI)? Also not having much luck turning the TV on via Alexa.

Guys, Hoping you can help? I have recently moved from a Sony 5.1 Amp and separate speakers. When playing a movie in 5.1, as you'd expect the centre speaker is used for dialogue with the front and rear surrounds used for directional effects etc. Am now using a Beam with 2x Play:1's (for surround) and am playing Plex/NetFlix/NowTV Movies via a Roku 4K USB streaming stick (plugged into a LG TV) The TV is plugged into the Beam via HDMI ARC. Both TV & Roku stick are configured specifically for Dolby Digital. For some reason, I get quite alot of dialogue in the surrounds. To the point that it doesn't feel like 5.0. It feels more like a ghost mode and the sound from the bar is simply replicated at a lower level in the surrounds. Any ideas what the problem could be? Thanks in advance??

Hi all, my first post here having been an avid reader of the forums ever since I bought my Sonos One a few weeks ago, and shortly after pre-ordered my Beam. I've been having a few problems with the Beam. I think most are little bugs that will get improved/ironed out as the updates roll out. However the issue with lip sync (DD5.1, not stereo) makes the Beam unusable. It leaves me one of two possible conclusions. 1. My Philips 55PUS6272 is not fit for purpose with external DD5.1 receivers. I should send it back and buy a TV that can send DD5.1 without delay (as it's only a few weeks old). Or, 2. My Beam is not fit for purpose and I should send it back. This would leave my Sonos One redundant too in my view, so I'd send that back too and invest in a different system). Which is the right conclusion, I don't know. But given the amount of users on here with lip sync for a variety of TVs, it seems reasonable to assume it's a Sonos issue. Followed instructions from jvc model LT-40C750(A) to connect through the play bar but it still no sound through speakers only the tv The instructions are for HDMI-ARC as i could not find anything to suggest what to do when connecting to SPDIF Can anyone shed some light on this?

Okay, I am very new with Sonos and have just installed 1 Beam and 2 Sonos One. I have a Samsung TV which is about 7 years old (Samsung ue32eh5300w). It has 3 HDMI ports, but there is no ARC text printed near these HDMI ports. I thought I just try to connect to one of the HDMI ports and see what happens. Well, I get the TV sound through the Beam (and the One) speaker and I am able to adjust volume with the remote control. Does this mean that I do have HDMI with ARC on my TV, even when the specs are not clear about this and it is not printed on the housing? On my TV I have connected the Motorola TV decoder (through HDMI) and an older DVD player (still with scart). The DVD player probably will not play 5,1 Surround, but as my Provider told me, the decoder should be able to, like also my Netflix account. I must admin, I have to do some tests and maybe this question is more about the TV than about the Sonos system, but in the TV settings, I can only find surround settings with

I have an old Sony 5.1 theater system which sound is fantastic but the amp is failing and needs upgrading. I discussed with a member of Sonos team whether i could use a connect amp with my system but the speakers are not compatible. Debating whether to buy a Playbar but i'm wondering if i could connect my sub with it somehow to try and get a similar experience to what i already have. thanks

Please make it so that volume of each speaker in a surround sound group can be controlled individually.

I have a Playbar, Sub and just added the Sonos amp so I could use my in ceiling speakers to create 5.1 surround sound. When I added the ceiling speakers to my setup I chose to add them as surround speakers. I was under the impression that with the new Sonos amp, I would be able to use the Airplay function. I tried to send music from my iTunes library via airplay to the Sonos amp and Playbar + Sub, however I don't see that as an option under Airplay. Why? Do the speakers via the Sonos amp need to stand alone and be incorporated as music speakers vs. surround? Additionally, if I use an old iPod via analog line in on the Sonos Amp, will the music make use of the Playbar and Sub and the ceiling speakers?

Why did the new Playbase not integrate Dolby Atmos?

Hi All, I have been researching soundbars for the first time ever the past couple of weeks and had come to the decision to purchase a Sonos Playbase or Beam. However, during my research today I red about TV's being unable to output Dolby Digital from any external sources, so they will output DD on any TV broadcast but not from any source plugged in via HDMI (Apple TV, Fire TV, DVD player etc). Is this a known and common problem? And does this apply to optical out only or does it also apply to HDMI ARC? I have a Panasonic TX-40CX680B TV and I spoke to Panosonic customer support today who could not confirm if the TV would output DD from the optical output for external sources. I primarily use a Fire TV Stick to stream content, which outputs DD to my TV, but if my TV cannot pass the DD signal to the Playbase or Beam then obviously there is no point in me making the investment. Does anyone have experience/expertise on this subject, and if so please can you advise?

Hi Sonos, I'd like to setup a home theater with the Sonos Beam as a center speaker, two Play:3 as front and two Play:1 as rear channels. Is this possible? Thanks Michael

Some titles not sending 5.1. I have an issue where I have Playbase, sub and 2 Play 1's all working fine as music set up and my set top box when receiving an HD signal gives me 5.1, but when I switch to the shield, only Amazon prime 5.1 gives me 5.1all the time, I tried suites in Netflix and I see 5.1 in Sonos app, but went to Luther which says 5.1 and I see stereo ... Other shows in Netflix that state 5.1 also come as stereo... Not sure why as everything else works fine.

I’ve connected the Beam to a Samsung PS51D550C1R via optical. However I am unable to get the Beam to recognize the TV’s remote control presses correctly. During the start of the setup, most times the Beam immediately thinks that there is a Volume + button press even when I haven’t touched anything. Sometimes it just sits there waiting for a button press and so I will press the Volume +, it says it’s recognised and then goes on to the next step (3 presses of the Volume +). No matter what I do, it keeps telling me no buttons are pressed. So I’m now stuck with the Beam + TV set up but no way to control the volume remotely save for touching the Beam itself or using the Sonos app. Could someone please help?

I have a playbar, sub and x2 play ones. I stream as well as have directv. I wish i would have done more research before biting off the expense of sonos. I could have bought a system designed specifically for surround sound. Sonos is designed for music but just happens to function, terribly, as a surround sound system. That being said Im looking for some help with settings or something. Audio play back is fine for everything but Amazon video. The background noise is far too lpud and you cant hear what any of the actors are saying..... any advice other than sell my complete sonos system for pennies on the dollar and invest in an actual surrpund spund system?

I have purchased beam but realized my TV doesn't have HDMI ARC and Optical Out.. My TV having only 2 HDMI out-puts and 1 USB drive

So I have a old television which has two HDMI ports. They do not have Arc sadly. To make the television smarter I have a Chromecast hooked up on 1 of the HDMI ports. The second HDMI port is attached to the Arcaydan, which is the "decoder" for the tv channels and offers only Netflix and the channels provided by the ISP xs4all. On the Arcaydan, the optical port is used to connect to the Sonos Beam. The Beam works fine with the Arcaydan. Ofourse the Beam does not connect to the Chromecast because the Beam is in no way connected to the television and only plays the sound from the Arcaydan. Is there a way that I can connect the Chromecast in some way with the Sonos Beam with this setup? With regards, Gertjan

I have the opportunity to get a pair of Sonos Ones at wholesale, to add to my current HT Sonos setup: a Playbase. My setup is as follows: Samsung UN40D6000 => Playbase via optical/TOSLink TV => Apple TV 4 via HDMI TV => Blu-Ray Player via HDMI TV => Mac Mini/Kodi via HDMI TV => STB via HDMI The issue I'm concerned about is audio passthrough. Namely, will the Sonos play DD 5.1/DTS audio from any of the sources I have connected to the TV? As I understand it, many Samsung TVs will not pass DD 5.1 through optical, or even HDMI. They support PCM, but that mixes down to stereo. My TV is from 2012 and I can't find any definitive info whether I will be able to pass through 5.1 DD or not. Is there an easy way to test whether my TV will pass 5.1 DD/DTS to Sonos? TIA

I've been looking through this very helpful guide but can find no reference to using Panasonic TVs with the Sonos Playbase as a home theatre. Can Panasonic TVs be used with Dolby 5.1 sound?

Hi, I have recently added an Apple TV4K and 2 One's to my living room setup which now has a Playbar, Sub and the 2 new One's. My Television is a pretty dated Panasonic Plasma P50U30A. If I set my ATV4K to Dolby Digital I am not getting any audio and in Sonos > About the Audio is showing as "Silence". If I switch my ATV4K back to Best Available I get Audio and Sonos > About shows the Audio as Stereo and not Dolby Digital . Pretty certain the Netflix content I am testing with is DD content. Any ideas how I can get Dolby Digital output on my 5.1 setup or is the limitation due to my TV not being able to pass through the signal?
