Amazon Alexa and Sonos

Is Google Home ever coming to Sonos One? I know the whole "Sonos does not release their timeline's on when they are going to release products/services". But the Sonos One is quite the inferior product with the way they are trying to sell it. Essentially, it's an overpriced Sonos Play 1 with voice commands that I literally have to yell in order to be heard; I mean, I really have to yell at the speaker vs. The Google Mini, or the Apple Homepod. Also, there are so many skills and abilities lacking with the Sonos One Alexa interface. I sincerely feel like this product was rushed out way too soon. I have (4) of them at the moment, along with other Sonos products, but am really peeved by lacking the Sonos One is...

So I'm STILL trying to find a way to use my Amazon Echo and Echo Dots to voice control my music out to my Sonos Play 1 and Play 5 (Gen 1) speakers. I could use Apple Music back when you could voice control "Favorites". But that functionality was taken away, and I've had no voice control since. I used Amazon Music for a while, but they don't have all the soundtracks and other music I want to listen to, and now you can't add additional music to Amazon anymore. So I cancelled my subscription and went back to Apple Music. Apple Music has the biggest library, great quality, and while I'm not a fan of fees, I was prepared to make do. But going without voice control has gotten really annoying. My annual subscription goes till almost year end, but I've set it not to renew. Since then, I've tried using Synology's skill to control my NAS's music. But besides requiring separate domain names, registration, and port forwarding to allow "Alexa" to navigate from the Cloud to my NAS,

Seems like the flurry of updates to alexas so called skills has ceased. Its been a good few months since the release date. Still no news on napster which a number of people requested, still no news on the local stored media playing. Guess they wont be coming due to the silence.

With Sonos 1 with Alexa built in I cannot get Alexa to respond while music is playing on the sonos. i have to wait until the song ends. Same with listening to news radio station . There is no response until a break in the announcers voice

Tivo just released an Alexa Skill. Will this work with Sonos One?

I haven't noticed this before but im having problems controlling my smart bulbs in my bathroom when my sonos connect is streaming music for my amplifier... When i unplug the z80 my lights start working again. Any ideas ? thanks...... Play 1. Connect amp. zp80. 2 bridges Philips hue bridge. 7 smart bulbs. Two room sensors .3 smart plugs and amazon alexa....

Is there anything I will have to do to be able to use Alexa with my Sonos systems in two separate homes? I have Echos in both.

I have set up an Amazon Echo Dot with a Sonos a connect Amp, everything working fine, however after a full power cut, the Autoplay now no longer works. If using the Connect Amp through, for example, the Spotify App from the Sonos controller, and then asking Alexa for the weather, it does not cut in. We have to select the line-in from the Sonos controller to pick it up!!! I have checked all the settings and they were as before the power cut. I.e.from Sonos controller Use Autoplay Volume is on, Autoplay Room is selected and all is ok as stated above it will play if manually selected from the Sonos controller, from the Alexa App the Start of Request and End of Request are turned on. Very frustrating as was working beautifully before power cut.

I have just come back to New Zealand from the UK and brought back a Sonos one with Alexa which is working fine, The only problem is they are not released here in New Zealand yet. Is there a release date set for the Sonos one in New Zealand as I would like to purchase at least one more and will there be a cheaper price if 2 are purchased, as on the Australian website they are offering 2 Sonos ones at JB hi-fi for AU$499 . Any information on this matter would be great. Thanks Justin

I installed my sonos one last weekend and set up went fine--no issues and using it every day. I came home tonight and the voice activation will not work. I can go and press the button and it will work (though it would not stop playing music so I had to unplug it). Is there something I goofed on set up or something I can check? Thanks. Dan

I'm currently using an Alexa dot in my kitchen with my sonos and i have just bought a sonos one for another room. They are both using alexa ok BUT if i ask the Kitchen alexa to play something from spotify in the other room it will stop the spotify track playing in the kitchen. And vice versa. It doesn't do it if im, say, playing something from tune-in the kitchen and ask it to play something from spotify in the other room - the radio keeps playing ok in the kitchen. Not sure why its stopping the music? Spotify is working fine on all my speakers if i do it through the sonos app so no conflict between speakers. Any ideas?

Hi. K have my connect amps in a cupboard running cables to 2 wired speakers in the bathrooms. I'd like to use voice activation to control my music . My question is can I hook up the Amazon echo/dot in the cupboard and somehow use the speakers in the bathrooms to "talk" to the dot and change music or must the Amazon device be the speaker that hears my commands? I don't want to have Amazon devices in the bathrooms..... Any suggestions welcome!

I have checked with Sonos, and they have confirmed that you cannot ask Alexa to play tracks from your own library. Further, they have no plans to support this. As much as I love my existing Sonus setup, and as much as I want to try Alexa out, I do NOT want to sign up to a music service when I have a large quantity of my favourite music already in my home Sonus library. I have no idea of the technical challenges involved with this. Given your voice command is uploaded and parsed somewhere else, it may be too difficult to send back the results to the sonos controller to access the local library. None the less, I wanted to start a conversation to see if I am alone, or if this is something a lot of people want. Regards, Ian

I've got Audible working through the Sonos app, but when I ask Alexa to play my audio book through my Sonos speakers like I do for Amazon music nothing happens. It responds like its going to play the book but then nothing. Has this feature been implemented or are we still waiting?

After telling Alexa to shut off music at a pre determined time and Alexa acknowledges, that time comes and goes, and the music plays on. Anybody get that problem, or have a similar experience?

I just bought the new sonos one to pair with my play 1 in the kitchen, spent an hour on hold, to find out the two won't pair!! You have to throw out the play 1 and by another sonos one. VERY disappointed and not at all clear in all the marketing I got. I have a house full of sonos speakers. Will this be fixed soon in an update??

I have a number of Sonos speakers, is there anyway to address a 'group' - like "Play relaxing music everywhere". I have tried setting up a group in the Alexa app, but that doesn't work. While I am here - do the names of the Sonos speakers have to be different to existing 'smart stuff'. I have lights called 'Living Room' and a Sonos called 'Living Room', and that seems to confuse things...

So, I have two Sonos ONE’s as rear surround speakers. When I set a timer using Alexa apparently asking the other speaker how time there is left does not work as the alarms are tied to the individual One. Two ONE’s that are in a single room should be treated as a single Alexa endpoint. When will this be fixed.

I've been trying to set up my sonos one all day! Sonos is showing as enabled on the Alexa app, Amazon showing as linked on the sonos app (so I can select music via browsing), but I cannot use alexa to request songs: when requesting songs I'm directed to enable sonos in the alexa app. Alexa will work for general requests eg weather. Where am I going wrong?! This is driving me crazy ?

I have a lot of Sonos speakers and also have a lot of Echo devices. I just signed up for Spotify to give it a try and linked it all together. I will say for example "Alexa, play Tina Turner on the Kitchen" and she'll say "Okay, playing music by Tina Turner on Spotify on the Kitchen." then nothing happens. I'll say "Alexa, play workout playlist on kitchen" and same thing "Okay, playing workout playlist from Spotify on the kitchen." and nothing happens. If I open the Sonos app on my computer, it will show (?) beside playing on the kitchen speaker. If I go to my library and start playing a song, THEN if I say "Alexa" the Sonos goes quiet throughout the house and I can say "stop playback" etc and it works. But as soon as I try to request something she doesn't play. The alexa.amazon.com site shows her understanding exactly what I said, and showing that she's controlling Spotify but it never actually works. I have Google Home and a Sonos Play:1 speaker. Sonos says that in 2018 the Sonos speakers will be compatible with Google Assistant but will that be a software change that will allow me to use my current speaker with Google Assistant or will I have to purchase a new Sonos speaker in order to be able to use the Assistant with Sonos? Does anybody know this yet?

Hi I am really confused as to the capabilities of Alex and controlling different rooms. I have 3 speakers, Sonos One with Alex, Play 1 and Play 5. The speakers are labelled in the Sonos app as Bedroom, Living Room and Nursery. If I say, Alex play Oasis in the Bedroom...should this work? I understand that multi room and grouping is not currently possible though? Thanks in advance

I’ve had all of my Speakers working flawlessly with the Alexa app even though it’s not been available here in Australia I obtained it through the US App Store. Basically I want to know if anyone has an idea when Sonos will finally release the skill for sonos for the Alexa app so us aussies can finally put to use what we paid good money for to begin with. I understand they brought out the sonos one with Alexa etc etc and yes we all realised it’s no good unless your in a country that actually has it working , News flash sonos we have amazon and Alexa working just fine and have done now for a few weeks. Wouldn’t you think that they could have moved a bit faster and released the skill here as of FEBRUARY 1 to coincide the the launch of Alexa and all her gadgets. We can get the flash Aussie accent and new Aussie skills here finally but honestly who really cares I no I’m not interested at this point in time I much like a lot of others out there - all we want is the damned speaker to live

I updated my Sonos app to the latest version and skills like flash briefing still don’t work. Alexa responds with “Heres your flash briefing” but then goes silent. Is anyone else having this issue? I was under the impression this bug was going to be fixed on the latest update.
