What to get

I've had your typical "big iron" A/V setup for years. B&W 603 front and center speakers w/dipole surrounds, Hsu VTF-3 15" sub, Denon receiver, etc. We're moving and I'm getting rid of all of it and going full Sonos. New setup has a Playbar, Sub, and two Play 1's on stands. I also bought two One's, putting one of them in the MBR, the other one is "roving" for use in various locations. Looking forward to chucking the cables and bulk of my old system, hoping the performance is good enough for me not to miss my old stuff.

Hi all - about to start investing in Sonos. I was wondering if people had strong opinions regarding starting with two Play:1 in stereo vs. starting with a Play: 5.1. This is for my living room -- 12x20 room. Thanks for your help.

If you are, like me, not an audiophile and rely on Sonos ads for information, you may be sorely disappointed. Ads for Sonos One and Play1 both advertise connectivity to your "other smart devices." Based on this claim, I fully expected the Sonos One and/or the to connect to my smart TV. It is a smart device in my home. Nowhere did it say this claim excluded TV sound. Finally, Sonos support told me that route sound from my TV that I would need an additional Sonos device that retails for about $700. This is classically bait-and-switch.Good luck with these folks.

I am trying to find a good speaker pairing for a CONNECT AMP that my brother in law has been given for Christmas from his good lady wife. I have some Wharfedale 9.1's with mine which I paid around 100 quid for new in October. The sound is "okay" at that price level (yes, i wish I had spent more) His budget is slightly more, around 350 pounds inc speaker wire They are to be wall mounted in room corners in a living room about 5m x 8m, and he will NOT be using a sub I was thinking about the Monitor Audio Bronze 2 ? Are these a good choice or can anyone recommend alternatives (UK based) Thanks in advance Paul

I have a PlayBar that I am going to add two Play 5's or Play 1's to for both surround sound when watching TV and stereo pair when listening to music. The room is about 15' by 20'. If I get the Play 5's they will be on the ground vertically. If I get two play 1's they will be off the floor on shelves. Wha will sound/work better? Thanks.

Hi All. Looking to outfit an open plan kitchen diner about 6 by 5 meters with speakers. I'm considering either 4 play 1 or 4 in Ceiling speakers paired with a C:A. Any recommendations on which is the better choice While the in ceiling speakers would probably work out more expensive i think they have the potential of providing better sound quality. Looking for opinions on both setup and recommendations on in ceiling speakers. Thanks

I'm thinking of buying a z-wave hub and wondered on the compatibility of Sonos Play 1 and Play 5. It would be nice to get ridge of my Sonos bridge as I don’t want lots of different hubs in my house. Any idea whether this would work?

Currently Currys in the UK have the Play 1 in Black or White selling for £134 with free delivery. I also get an 8% discount via my employers reward scheme so I'm going to bag me a couple of these beauties. I already have 5 Play 1s and that, obviously, is no way near enough!

Hi all I am about to upgrade my system but am unsure what to get. I have a stereo pair of Play 5's (gen1) and am considering getting a sub. Would it be better doing this or selling the Play 5's (gen1) and replacing with Play 5's (gen2). This will be a one off upgrade so if I went with the Play 5's (gen2) a sub would not be bought. What do you think would give the best sound? Thanks

Hey, We have lots of sonos pieces and I'm looking to set up a "stereo system" was going to go connect amp and some good bookshelf units but I like sonos sound.... the main goal is music but I do have a smart tv on the shelf I plan to put the system. The only existing gear I would have is a gen 1 5. So thinking a pair of (1,3 or 5) and use the old 5 in the center????? Or sell the old five and go 2 new 5s only? Let me know your thoughts Thanks!

Help needed , i have a really nice set up in my living room. A pair of b&w 802 diamonds connected to a nad m3 and a camebride audio streamer. Now i would like to simplify the set up , but i dont know if i could be happy with a pair of play 5 with a sub. I there someone here who made a simmilar change in stereo set up.

I am considering the Sonos system but need to be able to play my existing CD collection from a conventional CD player. I understand both the Sonos Connect and the Play:5 have an Analogue In option. As far as I can tell the Connect is required if you also want to have an Analogue Out to existing amp with speakers, but if this is not a concern, is there any reason to buy a Connect if you already have a Play:5? A related question is: if my CD player is already connected to an Amp, can I connect the Amp to the Connect or Play:5 or does the CD player need to be connected directly to the Sonos gear?

So, my daughter's fiance fell in love with my Sonos over Thanksgiving's visit, so wedding gift was an easy choice - two Play:3s, which are very nicely priced if you have access to a military exchange (sold out online, unfortunately). Their house is not large, so I assume they can wire one direct to their router and then put the other elsewhere. If they do end up needing to separate them from the router and wifi doesn't cut it, is there any advantage to getting them a Boost rather than just pulling one of my old Bridges out of a drawer? Seems like a huge expense when I can give them a Bridge or buy one on eBay for $20 or so. I tried searching, but my search-fu was bad this morning (need more Red Bull) because I found nothing that describes the benefits of Boost over Bridge.

hoping to get some advice on a little dilemma I now have. Got a Play 5 in the kitchen that used to sit on top of the fridge freezer and fill the room with sound. We’ve just had a new kitchen fitted with all new appliances and the gap between the top of the cabinets and the ceiling is a mere 90mm! I’ve put the play 5 in the corner on the kitchen worktop but the sounds no where near as good as filling the room, I’ve retuned using Trueplay. My initial thoughts were to get another Amp and a couple of decent speakers to go on top of the cabinets, but with only the 90mm to play with, I’m really struggling!

In my sitting room I have a pair of PLAY:3s and a SUB, which together stand one of my rooms called MAIN. So: MAIN = SUB + PLAY:3 + PLAY:3 (stereo, wireless) I also have other rooms in my apartment with other speakers, mostly PLAY:1s. Now, I am planning to buy and install in my sitting room a TV and a PLAYBAR. And here come the questions: 1. If I simply connect the PLAYBAR to TV, is it possible that this setup is displayed as an independent room in Sonos App, for example called "TV"? In other words, is it possible to have the PLAYBAR be controlled by the TV when I watch TV and by Sonos App when I want to stream some audio? 2. Is it possible to somehow conveniently group PLAYBAR and MAIN, to be either controlled by TV set or by Sonos App? To better explain my questions, I would ideally like to have the following possibilities: a) To listen to my existing MAIN controlled by Sonos App (no PLAYBAR involved) b) To listen to my existing MAIN + PLAYBAR, controlled by Sonos App (

Or can i connect an Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC directly to one of the Play:5? I want to buy a One/Play1 but I DON'T want Alexa built in, call me old fashioned but I am uncomfortable with the concept of a microphone constantly listening to every word said in a room. Which one do I need or are they only now available with Alexa built in/?

Hi, Am about to buy a sonos system with 3 components throughout the house. I’d like for the system to improve the tv sound, and be able to connect by cable to our existing stereo. I’m hoping that doesn’t require buying both a Playbase and a Connect? My question is- can a playbase be used interchangeably to play sound off the TV and a stereo, when the cable is moved between the devices? I know moving the cable back and forth would be a bit inconvenient, but the stereo use would be infrequent (to be able to play CDs without having to go though uploading them as don’t currently have computer). Both the tv and stereo have the same input jack (on stereo it says ‘Digital Optical’ and on the TV ‘Digital Audio’ but I understand they are the same as TV manual says the TV does Digital Optical, and they look the same). So I’m hoping the system could be- 1 Playbase and 2 Play1s Or does it sound like I’d need- 1 Playbase, 1 Connect and 1 Play1? Many thanks, Nerys
