Voice control and smart home

I've had my PlayBar along with two Play:1's for a year (almost to the day.) This year, I decided to upgrade my system: a Sub and two Sonos:One's to replace the Play:1's (each of which are in my kids rooms) and moving the Play:1's to use a s rear speakers in a surround setup. My surround is now second to none. It's incredible. I love that I can tweak it, sound is amazing, base is thumping when I need it to be, ambient sound is fantastic (especially gaming!) I made the mistake of confusing everything with a couple of Amazon Echo's (two for one; why not, right?) Alexa seems to add 3 (not 2) devices per Sonos: One. Super annoying and clunky AF. One physical and two virtual devices (because the Echo pairs itself with the Sonos: One's in addition to Alexa built in. So so lame. Hello, I have just been bought a Google Home Mini at the same time I bought the new Amazon Exho Dot 3rd Gen. The Google Home Mini looks much better for talking to but am not sure it will work for everything I have. Help appreciated before I decide which one to return. I have sonos ceiling speakers and Spotify throughout the house. Will Google Home Mini allow me to control these? Both Spotify and Apple Music? I have Sky with a Samsung TV. Will Google Home Mini allow me to control the TV or change Sky channels? I have Apple phones and MacBooks, will Google Home Mini work ok with this ecosystem? Will Google Home Mini be able to turn on/off Philips Hue light bulbs? Thanks for help with all the above - just want to make sure I keep the right one! Finally, if I bought a Sonos speaker for just anywhere in the house, will I be able to control music played on that speaker - both Apple Music and Spotify?

When will Sonos Voice Services be available in Spain

Hi all, So I bought a Sonos One for my kitchen in order to use Siri, Alexa and AirPlay 2. Initially I set everything up on my iPhone without a problem and have been using Siri comands to play my playlists etc. for several months. THis evening, given my iPhone was upstairs (and being in a lazy mood) I decided just to use my iPad mini 4 to do the same as my iPhone however I simply couldn’t get this to work despite being able to see the Sonos One on the Home app. Even when stood next to the Sonos One and pressed the device I simply get the message “Unable to connect to the Kitchen”. I did a little comparison for the home app on the iPad to the one iPhone and noticed the wallpapers and devices weren’t syncing. Thinking this was the issue I deleted the “My Home” from my iPhone 6S and recreated it. I also took the chance to set up my Apple TV to show on airplay and voila the iPad, iPhone and Apple TV synced up again and I felt I was one connection away from an improved home system.

Added a Sonos One to replace an Echo Dot in the bedroom today, but surprised to find (unless I'm missing something) that Alexa routines don't appear to be supported. I have a 'good night' routine for example that turns off all the lights and responds in a particular way. Within the configuration of the routine, the Sonos One is not available as a speaker from which the routine can be requested. Are Sonos speakers only given limited access to Alexa functionality, or is this forthcoming at some point?

I have had a sonos 1 for around a year with the thought that i would have voice service. I live in the Netherlands, does anyone know if voice services are supported in the Netherlands.

Currently I'm only able to cast to my Sonos One speakers from the Google Music app on Android devices. I can't cast to Sonos from any other apps on Android devices and I can't cast at all from Apple devices. Why hasn't Sonos implemented full Chromecast standard and full functionality of the cast feature from the many apps and devices that support casting? Seems like a user unfriendly thing to do. Will Sonos implement full Chromecast compatibility with the coming Google Assistant update? The Google Assistant update can't come soon enough. I purchased two Sonos One speakers based solely on the promise of Google Assistant. Please deliver sooner rather than later!

Hi, I tried play song using voice command " Alexa! play coldplay song from spotiy'. It says shuffling song from spotify but doesn't play anything. I have submitted diagnostic with ref number 1547443961. Thanks

Just got the sonas one and having issues with the alexa voice control and spotify. I have a premium spotify account got the alexa app sonas and spotify i have linked them all up and everytime i ask alexa to play music the response is "your spotify account does not support streaming on this device" its so frustrating im about to chuck it out the window! Or send it back any clues anyone ? If i use by manually playing music in spoifty it works perfectly. My understanding was tge voice control was updated as at 22nd Nov ?

I have recently purchased a Play 1 and set up according to instructions. Everything works ok apart from when I ask Alexa to play radio or spotify she says 'Playing...from spotify' or 'Playing BBC radio one' and then nothing. Both theses fibroids functions work through the Sonos app but not through voice commands. Please can you help

I helped a friend set up their system of a Beam in the lounge and a Play 1 with an additional Echo Dot in a bedroom. Initially I had an issue with a Wi-Fi extender, where the Play 1 was connecting to it, but not able to group with the Beam. Turned off the extender and re-connected the Play 1 and grouped as expected. However, the Beam does not auto ungroup when the TV is turned on and you need to select from the App controller. Could it be something to do with the extender which is primarily for other rooms further away from the main router.

Hello. Just bought 2 Sonos One. I am trying to connect them with Alexa app, but when I reach the point where Alexa is searching for Sonos devices the search fails. Is it possible to make it happen in Greece? In Sonos app, when I tap on the "Voice Services" button, I get a message that this service is not available in my country. Is this the reason that I cannot connect Alexa with my "ones" ? Any advice/solution???

I have three Sonos rooms setup and a configuration with Alexa. For some reason 2 of the three rooms have disappeared from my Sonos App. I can stil play through Alexa, but only Alexa.

Hey, I suspect that commercial issues might prevent this, given the Apple and Amazon mix, but can you confirm whether there are any plans to extend the Alexa functionality to have Apple Music as a default library? I know I can start Apple Music using the app, but I wonder whether it will be possible to set it as the default streaming service in the Sonos Alexa skill in future? Great job with the app btw!

I have just purchased two Sonos one , having previously owned an Homepod - while the sound of the two ones combined is indeed better than the Homepod , I am VERY disappointed with the responsiveness. It is like Alexa cannot hear me when I have the music on.. we seriously have to shout to get hurt when the music is at half volume... the homepod would pick our voices up from another room... Is this something that will be improved overtime ? Is anyone else having the same problem?

trying to sort out Alexa, again. Not having any luck. She wouldn't play my music so on fiddling I spotted I had my sonos one registered with her twice. so deleted one of them. I only have one device. So now not sure if that linked but when I say 'Alexa' her voice has changed to another American accent and she says 'sorry I am having trouble understanding right now, try a little later..' WHY!?? I now cant get her to work at all. help pls. I have two little boys who want to use her she was a bday present.

Now that Alexa is available in Spain I am trying to set up Alexa with Sonos skill but the skill does not appear in the app when searching for it. Not sure if this is a problem with Sonos, Amazon or what. Any workardound even if it means to use Alexa in english? Thanks

Hello! I just bought a new Sonos BEAM, and I connected Alexa, but when I say to Alexa that it should turn on the TV, then it wont. But for some reason adjusting volume and turning OFF the TV works great. My tv is the “SONY BRAVIA - Model Number: 40EX500”. Thanks, Upi Singh

Do you have plans to enable the Sonos/Alexa integration to play music from music library? Most of my music listening is via my local network shared music. Id like to be able to use Alexa to play my playlist or indivudal songs or artists stored on my network drive

Summary: Can Alexa control Sonos to play music stored in Dropbox? This may already be addressed somewhere on these forums, but I can't find a recent post on this topic. I want use my Echo Dot to play music through my Sonos One speaker(s) that is stored in my Dropbox. Is that possible? Do I need any other intermediaries?

I am the happy owner of a Sonos Beam and a Philips TV 48PFS8109. Everything is setup with CEC Enabling+ Easylink like in this thread: https://en.community.sonos.com/home-theater-228993/enabling-cec-on-your-tv-for-beam-6810049 I can control the command "turn off bedroom TV" with Alexa and it works perfect. The problem arise when I try the command: "Turn Bedroom TV on", I see the red LED light on the TV turn off, just like clicking the remote control. After 3 seconds the LED just turns red again. I find this really weird because if I'm trying to cast to my chrome cast, the TV turns on immediately. I have tried disconnecting the Chrome cast to see if it was interrupting the CEC connection. But this is not the case. Any good suggestions? Br. Kasper

Problem: Alexa-enabled Sonos Play:One will not recognise voice commands for controlling music via Spotify. Setup: a Play:One, Play:3 and a set of installed Bose speakers which are conntected to Sonos using a bridge. Background: The Play:One is a recent purchase which I brought for the sole purpose of using voice-enabled “Alexa” to control music, Philips Hue lights and a few sockets around the house. I have no problems controlling the appliances which I have linked to my Alexa app, however, when I ask Alexa to play ....... on Spotify, I receive is a pause followed by “Something went wrong”. Do you want Spotify linked on the Sonos app as well as the Alexa app? Does streaming music directly from Spotify Connect (like a Bluetooth speaker) override the voice activation? What is the correct voice command for queing music on Spotify using Alexa?

SONOS needs to embrace wider voice connection than just Amazon Music. Google Play Music allows for far more flexibility and ease of access to personal music collections. My phone does it, my SONOS should!
