Have a chat with other Sonos owners. What's going on in the world of music and technology? What's playing?

I know that there must be many Sonos owners that are getting tired of no response from Patrick Spence. Has anyone thought of getting a letter draft asking for his resignation from Sonos, we could send it to the board of directors. He is taking his company and running it into the ground. We all have a lot of money tied up in Sonos. I am not ready to let It go by the wayside; it would be costly to replace it.Let me know your thoughts!
Never having had any problems with the app updates until now. Someone in their infinite wisdom has decided that the volume controls on the speaker (100) now don’t work when you press them.Well, they do after an annoying delay so turning that loud music down when you turn the speaker on, by pressing the play button on the speaker, doesn’t work.Instead of working on the device activated by pressing the play button it appears that the lovely thing now has to write and send a note to mummy to ask permission and wait whilst mummy finishes ironing her petticoats to write a note back saying OK you can do this. But Mummy forgets to write a note to the app giving it permission to show what’s playing.Sigh. Now THIS is extremely frustratingly annoying as a stream is started directly from a speaker and using the vol controls ON the speaker. No app interaction at all. This NEVER used to happen.Bloody annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!No wonder they won’t release their new products until this gets sorted. I have mo
I used to love Sonos, now I hate your products with a passion. I feel you have robbed me of thousands of pounds for a product that used to be brilliant and now you have wrecked it. I am home alone tonight and I can not access any music that I used to be able to do without a problem. Your updates are hateful, they don’t work, your consumers didn’t want them and right now I get zero value from your products. Worse I hate them and thy cause stress. your corporation is a perfect example of taking something brilliant to absolutely hateful. Your board should be sacked for utter incompetence and customer hatred. I hope u go bankrupt
Dunno maybe Wirecutter should fix their network, reboot, get a new mesh system.I’m having no issues with the app, must be them. 🤣 But in all (not) seriousness this is very brave of them 🤣Will be interesting to see what they recommend when they finish redoing the article. Quote, emphasis mine: We are completely re-envisioning this guide and will no longer recommend the Sonos multiroom audio platform as the best overall choice. Please see our note at the top of the guide for more details. After careful consideration, we no longer recommend the Sonos multiroom audio platform as the best overall choice. Sonos recently rolled out a major update to its control app that had a ton of problems, leaving its customers with a much less intuitive experience than they had before. While the company is slowly addressing some of the major issues with the new app, this is not the first time Sonos has hurt customer trust through poorly executed changes. That said, Sonos still makes great speakers that
Done with sonos. Someone tell me who i can use instead. There must be competition that teats customers fairly.
I was logged off, and now while trying to log on it says i have to agree to NEW terms of service in particular claims and binding arbitration? I refuse. Can i get a refund on y SONOS products i cant use my Music Library on like before? I'm not intending on litigating but i am inclined when one of your many 100,000's users finally start a claim and litigate this fiasco. I am so inclined to jump on a class action lawsuit if one is ever filed. You guys are horrible. instead of fixing the obvious problems and your mistakes. you want to instead push your customers in the corner and limit your liability. this is so wrong. you are not accepting responsibility for your mistakes and harm created on your customers/consumers. You are coercing customers who are in despair and conflict with costly equipment that they cannot now use. Horrible, just horrible. are you guys Russian, North Koreans, Chinese Communist Party? This cannot be legal and enforecable in a court of law. This is coersion.
I am with all others that vented their dislike of the latest update(s), yet I am more worried looking into the WHY of this…imho: The write off of so many functions and features can only be to soon re-introduce them as 'new services' for an extra cost!!!Why else would any sane company otherwise create such chaos in a good working service?
The new app is trash. Not only can I not play my music from my PC. YouTube music will only play one song at a time out of my uploads. This ish cost to much money for this type of treatment. I’ll never purchase another Sonos product again
It is now 4 months since the disastrous app update. My system is still not functioning properly and I want this issue sorted. Please do the right thing and offer to buy back the products that do not work as they should. This is your doing not and it’s not right.
The only way that Sonos, the company, could have so badly damaged their product and their company with the latest software release can be due to a serious failure on the part of senior management. Software developers are means to an end. Management is responsible for pointing the developers in the right direction. Clearly, senior management utterly failed to control and manage the developers and, ultimately, the company. That is the only reasonable explanation for the mess that is the current software release. One can only surmise that senior management was more concerned about things monetary than about the quality of the product and, more importantly, the customer’s experience. To announce that some $20m will be spent to clean up the mess is not a sign of competence, rather it is an admission of failure. Perhaps Sonos should have spent more time and effort making excellent products than litigating patent lawsuits.
Has anyone on here gotten any satisfaction with Sonos customer service. I’ve been trying for months to get this issue resolved and nothing. I get in touch with someone who PROMISES a call back to schedule an appointment but no one ever calls back. The link they sent to schedule an appointment has no appointments available. I’ve sent two emails to the CEO but he’s worthless as are their speakers. I have no idea if its the update but once I use the app to turn on my surround sound everything goes mute. The only thing I can do is turn off the speakers on my app and use my TV volume. I wish I’d never heard of Sonos.
For anyone else who is STILL waiting for Sonos to get their * together, I just discovered the “SonoPhone” app and for $3-4 this app does everything that Sonos is incapable of. Boom, problem solved. Sonos should spend their billions buying out this app instead of stringing us all along on the pile of * they are working on.*Moderator Note: Modified in accordance with the Community Code of Conduct.*
I have 4 Sonos One speakers. Obviously I thought they were good if I bought 4 of them. Via forced updates over a period of years they have been rendered useless for my original use for them.Every streaming service I like, that doesn’t require an account, has been disconnected from the Sonos App and can’t be used. But I can use them on any smart phone just fine. There is no option whatsoever to stream MP3s from a network storage device onto your Sonos. Yes I’ve read all the deeply technical guides on how to, in theory, create a network share that Sonos MIGHT see. If your NAS supports the latest network file sharing protocols, which it probably doesn’t.Useless.Any dumb blue tooth speaker + my smart phone is superior to Sonos at this point. I can stream MP3 directly from my phone. I can use Radio.net app or whatever app I want to stream music to the speaker. I can do NONE of this with Sonos anymore. As I write this I’m looking at my phone Sonos App and it says “Sonos system needs a
I am writing this because I struggled for at least a day and a half to convert my Sonos playlists. If you research this issue you will find many who have taken even longer and still not been able to get it done.I am moving to Apple Music. Much better quality than Spotify and less expensive, as well as more useful to me than Deezer. I had been reluctant to make the switch because of the difficulty of dealing with the playlists. Turns out it’s a breeze. There are a number of alternatives out there, but it’s a complicated issue and it’s tough to get reliability. The way this works, at least so far, is that you need one tool to extract the songs from the playlist to a file and another to convert the songs/playlist to your desired new source. There are a number of file extraction programs out there, as well as some pretty complicated architectural tricks that some recommend. It can take a while to sift through these. I tried Phonos Plus first. It’s a good effort, but is limited. Won’t run on
Hi, I wanted to get information on using Sonos in the Uk and if it fits into the business music licensing category or are you still required to make additional licensing payments ?
Please, go back to previous update, new one works really bad, interfers in all other devices at home, blocking both, Sonos system, tablet, phones, and any device on the same wifi. These never happened with the previous one. It’s occurring since the last update. Fixed it, I have many Sonos products in two houses, now having same problem in both.
After deciding to sacrifice my unused Sonos speakers to the upgrade gods, it didn't take long to run into an issue.Playing back music, I had repeatable on demand issuesIf a group contained 4 or more devices, there is a delay of up to 12 seconds or music dropping in and out during the first 12 seconds on all devices except the group controller when starting music or changing tracks. By devices that includes a sub and/or stereo pairs, not 4 sonos rooms. Changing group members in the app gets slow after the above and playing music. Track progress starts getting jumpy, cloud api calls take longer.I have spent some time investigating and think I know what is causing my speakers to have issues while grouped, which also introduces random app behaviour, cannot contact messages, slow responding. More often than not, once the controller gets into a state it doesn't recover and requires fully closing and reopening to return to normal. Why I didn’t instantly assuming it was my networkFor the past 3
Well...we'll see if they stick to this. Given that they said they were trying to bring the S2 app back to fix this s*** show, and then backtracked on that, I have little faith in anything they say anymore.https://www.phonearena.com/news/sonos-app-roadmap_id162054Moderator Note: Modified in accordance with the Community Code of Conduct.
A sonos community manager has released a trello board (see also the verge article).Well, really nothing new…It would have been smarter to use project management tools in the first place and before releasing the new App. Then, maybe someone would have said : “Guys, can we really release the app that lacks so many features and has so many bugs ? ”.Maybe one day we’ll have the full story of this failure and understand why they decided to release the buggy and feature restricted app. I read it was to be synchronized to the Ace. OK, maybe, but if it was obvious the app would be a disaster, why releasing it, then ? And why not maintaining the old S2 that had been working quite good for years ?Also, I really feal sorry for Sonos community managers who have to explain what the company is trying to do. Obviously, themselves don’t understand. And I’m glad to know now that Queue Management and Playlist Editing is on the roadmap. Wasn’t it in the first place ?
I’ve been racking my brain trying to understand why any company would push an update as bad as this one. It’s easy to blame the product & dev teams or lousy management but this team has been around and can’t be that dumb. They knew what was coming and did it anyway. So if you were running this company what would make you piss off millions of customers to this extent? The only thing I can think of is a contractual obligation. If they had signed a deal with some third party to share customer data and had to rearchitect the app since the old app probably didn’t log everything we did, and you had a deadline or the deal went away, then you would do something this bad to your customers. My guess, totally speculative, is that they offered the customer data to some third party about a year earlier, it was for a lot of money (this could be really valuable in this new world of AI where every piece of training data can give one vendor a leg up) and they had to rebuild the app to make sure eve
To everyone in the USA who work to provide for yourself, family and spend some of your hard earned money on SONOS...well the picture below says it all….
Iissues with this build… Can’t use multiple speakers. After installing a second speaker, the queue disappears and the app skips around what was in the queue after a few bars of each song. Rebuilt the system from scratch and with a single speaker, the queue limits the playlist to 100 tracks. I have an Amazon playlist with around 490 tracks. Using the chat app was a dismal failure. Couldn’t get a straight answer to the track limitation and was arbitrarily cut off.
https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/what-happened-sonos-app-technical-analysis-andy-pennell-wigwc/ What happened to the Sonos app? A technical analysis Andy PennellPrincipal Software Engineer at Xbox, Microsoft July 6, 2024On May 7th, 2024, Sonos, the successful home-audio company, released a new mobile app. This had been hyped in the press and was going to make product setup easier and greatly improve the user experience. However, when the app was actually released, it was, and somewhat remains, a disaster. As a certified Sonos fanboy/hacker/almost-employee I'm going to try and explain what happened, as best I can based on my reverse engineering skills, honed over the last decade and more of creating independent Sonos apps. How The "Old" App WorkedSonos speakers have been the Gold-standard UPnP device since their creation. I remember around 2005 the lobby to Microsoft Building 50, which was the home of the Windows Media Division at that time, was completely full of boxes of Sonos devices.
Sonos why after so many years of issues we are back to the same problems from the beginning of your existence. Player shuts off randomly for no reason, volume doesn’t work on the app in all rooms or show up will just disappear. can I just get up and turn on your system anymore and play music you have to go through a song and dance and a bunch of bulls*** in order to play music out of these players. it’s just wrong. Your new engineers that have taken over since she went public are horrible.and should be fired. You should roll back your app to where it worked for all humans and not frustrate them. This will be your demise. There are other products outthere heos by Denon Music Cast by YamahaI’ve been working for Sonos for 20+ years as a dealer and it’s time for me to leave and I’m gonna take all my clients with me one by oneevery time they call me with these issues I’m gonna explain to them why they need to trash your system and do something different it’s a shame it’s come to this, but
