So the latest update is terrible. I have a Sonos beam and 2 satellites in the living room and a Sonos move 2 in my garage. The system in the living room is for movies and tv and I hardly ever use it for music. I listen to music in the garage as that’s where I work. In the new app , when I go to play music it defaults to the living room. So I have to change it to the garage. No biggie. Problem is that while listening to music in the garage, if I decide to change channels or genres it automatically defaults back to the living room instead of staying with the move 2 that was already playing music. Is there a way to change the default speakers to the move 2 and not the living room system?

The whole selling point for Sonos was that is was easy to use… after bringing my roam on travel and not being able to get it to Bluetooth without (wait for it) wifi I assumed Sonos UX couldn’t get any worse. This mode recent app has made the several $1000 in speakers I have basically unusable. As others have said the music regularly defaults to the wrong speaker, won’t group, wakes up the baby by playing in his room not downstairs (despite selecting). Just a complete fail and embarrassing showing. Every app update gets less usable… but at least the pop up ads they put in work! FFS people, I’m done. Will be changing over to something like Google or Bose who seem to give a damn about their users being able to use their products

Hey SO-NO’S

Any response from you on an update to fix the default issues of your current alpha order of the rooms, etc? Your loyal clients would love to hear from you on a course of action and timeline. Communication is a good thing :)

Don’t know about Google, but Bose famously discontinued an entire line of smart speakers and brought out a new line that was 100% incompatible with the speakers it had been selling up until the day before.  Think about that, you could have bought a bunch of smart speakers that were obsolete the very next day.  And people thought Sonos making speakers “obsolete” that hadn’t been sold in half a decade (and actually kept them running as they had been right up until now) was bad?

Same problem. Keeps dropping my great room speakers and defaults to my den speakers. Then the great room speakers disappear from my system.

Frequently I get error message “Oops. Something went wrong. Please try again” when trying to play a selection from my previously played content.

Agree 100% with the previous comments re: inexcusable defaulting and waking household members.

Dear Sonos: C’mon, fix it.

Eagerly awaiting your response.

Tom

I feel the primary frustration here's the lack of response from Sonos Tech Support? We all understand issues appear on updates and new systems, but a lack of communication is a sad sign considering all the technologies we have to communicate with these days.

We would love to hear from Sonos…...

Yup The least they could do is add it to the page they posted bugs before. There’s a bunch they should add and include potential work arounds to cut down on frustrations.

Experiencing exact same issue.  This update is absolutely horrendous. Needs update ASAP or go back to original version until it’s figured out.

The only solution I’ve found is to move all the speakers to the same room. That way it doesn’t matter which speakers play or don’t. 😁🤗

Glad to find this thread. I have the exact same problem. It defaults to the wrong speakers every time. Renaming doesn’t help me loads because I want to listen in different rooms at different times.

I am very surprised this isn’t on the bug list as it’s utterly frustrating. The trial and error of changing source, changing speakers several times just to get a source playing out of the desired speaker set is maddening.

Isn’t this functionality precisely what Sonos is meant to be all about? Amazing this got through testing. Or are we testing now?

Same damn problem. Defaults to my ancient Playbar in the kitchen which is used for the TV only. Looks like some genius put them in alphabetical order on the App. Do some user research and proper interaction design SONOS!

Another problem I’m experiencing is intermittent dropout, when it reconnects I have different volume level. This is ridiculous. FIX IT!! Never had it with the old app. I’m also wondering if it has anything to do with Sonos radio. I tried it and I don’t like it.

I’m relieved that this is a universal problem, and mortified that Sonos would ship this app in this state. If I’m listening to a song and pick another song, how in hell could it possibly think I want the song to play in a different room?

What an absolute waste. If I could return my $3,000+ of Sonos *, I would. It went from magical to trash in the course of the last five years. Truly disgraceful. And by the time the software works again (if ever), I’ll be told my system is no longer supported.

Today’s update has remedied this issue for me. Thanks Sonos. Would’ve been nice to know it was on the way but happy it now appears fixed.

Good call, issue fixed. Now if Sonos would just fix the bug that stops a song about four seconds in until I restart the song then that would be great…

I want to be pro-active.  This upgrade has been extremely disappointing, and Sonos is not responding.  What are the alternatives, are there other home systems that are good options?  I have a significant investment, but no use throwing good money after bad.

I am having the same problem and it’s driving me crazy.  There are a number of other posts in the community and they have been closed for further comments.  Who is closing them!!!!!???? (I kept on searching until I found this one).  I keep on switching the room on my app and it keeps on bouncing back to the same room.  So basically I can’t start music in another room.  I have to start it in the app’s “default room” (which is a misnomer because there is no default room setting in the app).  Then switch to the room I want.   This is nuts.  Sonos has to know this is a problem.  There are posts on this problem on Reddit as well.

The automated system is likely closing those posts automatically, as they age ‘out’ without any further responses.

It seems like you have some network instability in your system, with the controller not maintaining a constant connection to your Sonos devices. As a start, I’d recommend a network refresh, by unplugging all Sonos devices from power, then rebooting your router. Once the router has come back up, plug back in your Sonos devices.

This would only address a couple of potential issues, and not an issue with wifi interference . If your problems continue, I would recommend that you submit a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of experiencing this problem, and call Sonos Support to discuss it.

There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.
