When will I be able to downgrade the firmware on my old Play 3 from S2 to S1 please?

Andy PennellPublished Jul 6, 2024  On May 7th, 2024, Sonos, the successful home-audio company, released a new mobile app. This had been hyped in the press and was going to make product setup easier and greatly improve the user experience. However, when the app was actually released, it was, and somewhat remains, a disaster. As a certified Sonos fanboy/hacker/almost-employee I'm going to try and explain what happened, as best I can based on my reverse engineering skills, honed over the last decade and more of creating independent Sonos apps. How The "Old" App WorkedSonos speakers have been the Gold-standard UPnP device since their creation. I remember around 2005 the lobby to Microsoft Building 50, which was the home of the Windows Media Division at that time, was completely full of boxes of Sonos devices. It was being used as the definitive test device for the engineers adding UPnP support to Windows.

Most of my favourite radio stations disappeared from TuneIn and MyTuner this morning.Most of them are still there on the MyTuner website but not in the MyTuner list on Sonos.I am supposed to be able to add the streaming URL using the “add radio station” in the Sonos setup but it always returns “not encoded properly” when I try.Does anyone know what hapened? Have these streaming services fallen out with Sonos or have they removed loads of radio stations?

Does anyone know where how the above works after today’s update? Only I can’t find it arm.

So, most of my Sonos Favorites that were Tune-In stations are grayed out after the most recent updates (both iOS and now OS). Is there a way to avoid paying the Tune-In subscriber fee to regain access (for those that aren’t on Sonos Radio)?

Every time SONOS has a software update it kills my network attached or locally attached drives that contain my music - why do they do this crap?  Do you bother to even test before you release?

I now can't play all three of my Sonos devices at the same time. "Try again later" Yet they all play perfectly fine on their own.   I convinced my mum to buy my dad a Sonos system for his birthday, lauding the hardware and the software. Guess when his birthday is? May 8th. Now I look like the idiot son.  I can't believe how much damage you've done to previously good product. 

The recent update has destroyed my music experience. As soon as I start a song once at a speaker start going up in volume the other one is off. 30 seconds later the other one comes on and my other two fade to zero. This happens for the first 2 minutes of the song and again towards the end in the beginning of the next songs. Can't access the EQ next to the volume controls anymore but more so the speakers and the app now have multiple quirks to the point or I'm using my Bluetooth speaker and my phone to play music. I need them to pay to get the geek squad or somebody out here to fix this. I've called multiple times and stayed on the phone for hours trying to resolve this. Didn't work!I'm extremely disappointed.!!!

iPhone 7 running iOS 14.7, downloaded Sonos S2 app, finally was able to downgrade my AMP.

Anybody experiencing the issue where the song shown as playing in the app is actually the previous song to the one Actually playing?

I am well aware of the issues with trueplay tuning after the new update. I have a beam + 2 era300 and I am wondering if anyone from you got the same error message at the end of the first stage like me saying: “an error occurred and we couldnt tune Room. Please try again”…. I feel that all of you have other but common issues with trueplay and maybe my problem is of another nature…anyone with such message after the new update of the app?

Hi all. Any views on why, everytime I open the App, it takes up to 15 mins for Sonos to list “My Sources” in the App? Actually I’m not sure how long or when it appears but eventually it does.   My Sources being my NAS/Library.  Meantime it is playing FLAC files from the NAS. Ie. The ones previously in the queue.  I cannot add others.   & can you make “My Sources” the top, main and only option? I’m seriously on edge of flipping back to Blusound equiv and selling the Port. After all, it’s only ‘remote balance control’ that’s keeping it in place but I think I’ve had enough of the hassle. June update was supposed to fix this NAS access nonsense.  

Sonos skips over almost all my songs. It doesn’t matter if they are “purchased” on iTunes or “matched” or any other “Cloud Status.”And, yes, I’ve re-authorized Apple Music, and de-authorized and authorized again, and reinstalled the (new and incredibly crappy) Sonos app on my iPhone, and done the same on my computer..And I’ve spoken to the Sonos phone support… and after talking for 15 minutes to someone who didn’t  even know what “Cloud Status” was — SONOS, HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE? THAT’S YOUR TECH SUPPORT? — I spoke to a “senior” tech person who said:“Yes, we know we have a problem. And our engineers are working on it.”(REALLY? AND YOUR TECH TEAM DOESN’T KNOW IT?)“And we will call you back and email you once it is resolved.”(THIS👆I SIMPLY DO NOT BELIEVE WILL EVER HAPPEN.”.IT IS TRULY STUPEFYING TO THINK THAT SONOS RELEASES APPS AND MAKES CHANGES TO THEIR SYSTEM THAT IS INCOMPATIBLE

Now that the ‘Play in another room’ option has been taken away by Sonos on this hideous app, does anyone know how to play an alternative playlist on another device? I have done it once but can’t for the life of me do it agsin!Anyone know the process?? Thank folks!!

Am I missing something with the new app. I don't seem to be able to play different songs in each room. I see a check box for each room and if I unselected room a to select room b to play different music, room a stops. 

Seems I am not alone with this issue:Sonos App on MacOS running Catalina 10.15.7.Cannot add any of my own music library.I have an ’offline’ library of around 50,000 songs, originally in managed in iTunes, and now in Apple Music, on the laptop. I do not run any streaming. And the music is stored on an External HDD. (Although I believe the library ‘database’ remains in the internal HD, in user/music. The library is shared in MAcOS settings.) Downloaded the latest app - Sonos_79.1-53290.dmg and installed it. Head to Manage Music Library and click add music folders + sign. So far so far.Here’s where it gets interesting: click on ‘My Music Folder’, and the whole app simply freezes, and has to be forced closed.Click on Add ‘another folder or drive connected to my computer’, browse to the same folder Apple Music points to on the External drive, enter (my) administrators details, and for a good 10 minutes, it spins the disc, with ‘please wait

I have been unable to use my iPhone 11 as well as now my newer iPhone 11 to control my system.  It has been about 12 months now not working.  The desktop app is working okay.  I have done everything to troubleshoot. I have restarted my network several times by unplugging the router, I have factory reset the speakers several times as a last resort, I have deleted and redownloaded the app about 10 times and made sure my privacy settings was set to allow sonos.  My network hasn’t changed any settings.  The app connects to my system and recognizes all of my devices and occasionally it will let me start some music but then I can’t control the volume or stop the music.  I am using version 2 of the app and all my speakers are compatible. I have been unable to reach sonos support for help.  Any advice or help is much appreciated. 

Hi, I used to be able to search for artists, tracks, albums, etc. in Napster on my Sonos Controller but now when I tap on search I get ‘unable to browse music’. I can select music from all the other options in Napster and they play okay but cannot search. I can search on Amazon Music no problem.

Why does my Music Library setting disappear every night?I have a share set up on my NAS box (QNAP) and every day when I go to use my SONOS system it cannot find the Music Library. When I log onto the Windows 10 client it has no entry in the path so I have to manually set up the path and rescan for all library data.Not exactly the last word in convenience, anyone know why this is happening.System is:Connect PLaybar 2 x Play 1s in Stereo configuration Android Phone The dreaded new Sonos AppHELP!

I don’t understand why the new App doesn’t include the WM:0 and WM:1 information?

Hi,I experience the following since the new app is availalbe (black background):App says it cannot load any content...on my iPhone 13 which is up to date The TV room is always lost when listening to the music, I have to add it again all overIt was not a problem with the former app (golden background).Is there any fix to that?Thank you 

Along with everyone else, I trusted the Sonos QA process and upgraded to the new app when it arrived. Lesson learned on my part and shame on Sonos. There’s enough written here already about just how mind bogglingly and unfeasibly s*** the new app actually is but I haven’t seen anything  mentioned yet about lagging ?Specifically,  when I try to adjust the volume on my speaker using the mobile app the system refuses to accept the change and it defaults back to the previous volume settings.  It’s the same on the EQ adjustments.  So I try again. And the app refuses the adjustment. But then 30 seconds later the volume goes up and down and up and down again. The only way to adjust the volume or EQ is with patience.  One setting at a time, until it sticks.Adjustments on volume and EQ used to be immediate no matter how many settings were being adjusted.Please, fix the latency/lagging between controller and speakers. Moderator Note: M
