What to get

Hello all, I've been looking to upgrade my home sound system as I currently have a cheap 2.1 soundbar/sub from Monoprice that I got for ~$40. After doing more research, I'm considering going for a 5.0 (5.1?) setup, with a Playbase + 2 x rear speakers, of which I'm gravitating towards the Play 1s. That said, I had a few questions I was hoping to get opinions on. For context, I primarily use my TV for gaming, but it would be nice to be able to play music/podcasts in my dining/kitchen area (it's an open floor plan style great room) too. I had a few concerns I was hoping to get opinions on Below is a poorly drawn diagram of my living room/dining room/kitchen layout. I should also mention that, since its an A-Frame style house, I have very high ceilings, 20-25 ft . My concerns: 1.) Would the Playbase + 2 x rear speakers be enough, given the space of the room? Again, I also have very high ceilings, 20-25 feet high. Right now buying the sub would be out of my price range

Im currently running a software squeezebox on rPi hooked to a Audiolab MDAC into a Bryston 3bst. ive ripped about 1000cds to alac but more and more i find i use Apple Music which squeeze doesnt support save via airplay which can be spotty and no shared queue for my wife to add things. Afaik AM is only supported by Sonos. im intrigued by the new Amp for the increase in power and airplay 2 funtionality plus just getting me into the Sonos system. ill only ever use it in 2 channel mode. That said i wonder if i could just buy the connect and run it into my existing dac via optical or coax? im not sure if the amp would be an upgrade compared to the bryston or how the preamp/dac works in it vs the mdac.

Hi all, I'm pretty new to Sonos (borrowed and returned a pair of Play 1's) and I've been thinking about getting a Beam which will eventually become part of a surround sound set up with a Macbook/PC, an amp/hub out to a couple of Play 1's and a projector. In the meantime I want to play tunes from Spotify using e.g. the Sonos app and audio from movies (e.g. on Youtube from an iPhone, or iTunes using a Macbook Pro) using Airplay 2. Does anyone know if you can use Airplay 2 to play the audio from videos without there being a Smart TV or Apple TV or similar in the mix etc? E.g.; 1. Can I watch a video on youtube via Safari on my phone and hear the sound from the Beam? 2. Can I watch a movie or TV via iTunes, iDVD, Safari, or VLC etc on a Macbook and get the audio out of the beam (ideally in stereo) in sync with the images? Essentially, can you use Airplay 2 to treat the Beam as a Bluetooth speaker? Apologies if this has been asked before, I've not been able to find a c

If i get 2 x Sonos Play:5 speakers and only want to stream music from a phone or a computer, do I need any additional equipment like an amp?

Ok so I have 6 Play ONE's in a restaurant that work great here's my problem I don’t have a secure network so anyone can get on and mess with the music and volume its happened! I have looked into the router and since we have Comcast business it will cost extra to make a guest network. I am in the process of remodeling my house and have the ceilings open. My objective is to add two speakers in my kitchen ceiling and two speakers in my living room ceiling. For the kitchen, there will be a TV mounted over the fireplace. I'd like the ceiling speakers to have the ability to play sound from the TV or from Sonos (Connect:Amp?). For the living room, I already have a Beam and want the two ceiling speakers to be able to play sound from the TV or from Sonos and to also integrate with my Beam to either play TV audio or music from Sonos. I'd like each zone to be independent from one another so the sound in the kitchen doesn't necessarily need to match the sound in the living room. Can you make a recommendation for equipment based on my requirements? Note: I have not purchased the ceiling speakers or Connect:Amp yet, just the Beam in the living room.

I have my system working again now (Playbase + 2 Play:1's as surround in the lounge with the PB hardwired to a 2nd router used as an AP which is hard wired to my main router), another PB + Play:1's in the dining room and a Play3 & Play5 Gen2 upstairs. Would there still be a benefit in getting a Boost and having this hard wired to either of the routers? The main one is in the hallway near the front door and the 2nd is in the lounge close to the tv. Hi, I’m new to Sonos and I’m looking to replace my existing TV/surround and Music systems that currently sit at opposite ends of a long lounge. I have found a few threads that give partial answers to my questions so apologies for any repetition here! I want to be able to keep my CD and Turntable set up but reduce the footprint (and wires!) that accompany my existing kit (see below for list of all components). My overall questions is this: Would a Sonos amp, beam, sub and a pair of ones effectively solve my problem? I have a couple of decent Q-Acoustic book shelf speakers. Am I right in thinking the set up above IN ADDITION to these speakers would provide surround sound ? E.g. Would the beam provide the centre channel audio and the Q-Acoustics the front left and right channels? Please help! The Problem: I am trying to add a new share to my iPad Sonos application, but cannot get it to link to my raspberry pi to play music. I have loaded SMB via My OSMC and can play music from the Pi on my PC via my wired network. Also, I have FileBrowser on my iPad and can play music from the raspberry on this too. I have enabled UPnP on the Pi and my Sonos speakers are recognised in the Add Music browser The Pi is called 'mediacenter', the HDD My Book and the file 'Music'. I thought the path should be: \\mediacenter\My Book\Music, but this and every conceivable combination doesn't work, (with or without a space between My Book). Hi, I'd like to ask some opinions about my Living Room / Kitchen setup. I know a couple of people have asked similar questions, so apologies for the redundancy! I've attached a sketchup of our open plan combined Kitchen / living. It's quite a large space at 6m wide by about 13m long. At the bottom of the drawing the RHS leads to an open hallway. At the top the glass doors open onto a back deck. Unfortunately there's a lot of hard and reflective surfaces, particularly around the kitchen (shiny doors, marble bench, floordboards etc). The living room is a little better as it has a couch and rug, but there's still a lot of glass and bare floorboards. Ideally what I'd like to get out of the space is to feel the nice warm sound that I fell in love with when I bought a Play:1 and put it in my small bedroom. I actually love the treble and the highs in music the most, but it's not the same without the depth and warmth of the bass. In terms of music I'll listen to almost anything rangi

I'm interested in converting my existing system. I'm looking to have a 5.1 system in the family room, with the ability to add speakers in other rooms and outside (the patio is covered). To be honest, I'm a bit overwhelmed at all the different combinations and what I really need. I currently have a Yamaha receiver which my cable, apple TV and Blu Ray player are connected to providing one input source to the TV. The receiver has multi zone capability and I would like to retain that option going forward. I would appreciate any help or guidance that could be provided.

Long story short... I have the following, all home run, back to my office closet: (4) CAT6 cables to each room in 1" conduit, (24) CAT6 cables total for A/V (4) CAT6 cables to exterior of house in 1" conduit for internet (4) CAT6 cables to each corner of the house in 1" conduit, (20) CAT6 cables total for security (9) whole home audio zones with (18) speakers total, (16) speakers are in ceiling I am not even sure exactly what I am trying to accomplish and I am open to suggestions. At my previous house, I had Sonos CONNECT with a wired amplifier and wired speakers throughout the house in the ceiling (whole house wired music). My new house does not have the wired speakers, but I was able to bring the CONNECT and amplifier with me. Can I get wireless speakers or would I need to get a new wireless amplifier?

We have a commercial multi-studio environment. There are a total of 15 studios (each 120sq/ft avg) which are leased independently with a common corridor and common wifi. Looking to see if a Sonos set-up in each room with each lessee would work?...So, 2 speakers per studio separately controlled

Hi all, I have a Playbar and Sub in my living room and the sound is superb. What I would like to know is for watching 5.1 enabled movies, does having Sonos Play 1s as surround speakers really add much to the experience? Thanks :) Haden

Anyone know if the beam would work with the audio technica player?

To date I have 2xPLAY1’s paired with my Beam and a PLAY:5 in the living room altogether, and a PLAY:3 in the bedroom. When watching TV I have sound over both rooms but reduce the volume from the PLAY:5 as I find it a little messy all in one room with the Beam etc. I am thinking of purchasing another PLAY:3, and replacing the 2xPLAY:1’s I currently use with my Beam with 2xPLAY:3’s. Then move the 1’s into the bedroom. I listen to more music than I watch TV and always crank the 5’s volume above the Beam&1’s (paired) just a little as I love the clarity and the bass it produces. I’m a bit of a bass-head and I’m thinking that by replacing the 1’s with 3’s that the base and overall experience will be improved. The money I will spend on another 3 isn’t the issue, but I’d really like to know whether other people in the community would recommend the upgrade over the 1’s and whether I would notice it against my current set up. Hi there. I am about to purchase a sonos product to connect my regular floor speakers to my Sonos system. Do I want to buy the new Sonos Amp and get rid of the receiver or am I better off buying a Sonos Connect and using it through the Sony receiver. Currently I have a Sony Str-DN1000 7.1 channel receiver. I use Sonos mostly for music, but will be upgrading to a surround sound system some time in the future. As of now I have 5 rooms connected with a variety of Sonos speakers but I want to use my nice Pioneer floor speakers with the system. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

First, I apologize for asking something that has probably already been asked a million times. I am interested in getting a Sonos system for whole home sound, using the round in-ceiling speakers. I assume those are wired? I have an open floor plan, but if I have 4 in the living, 2 in the kitchen, 2 in the dining and maybe 2 in the hallway, how do i manage the volume on each set of speakers? Since it's an open plan, most likely always the same music. But if I add two to the laundry room, I can chose different sound for those, correct? I'm going to do the home theater later. This first plan is to simply have music through the house, and use the ceiling speakers. What the heck do I need to buy to stream music through these speakers? I got a little lost on the various components and amps needed and don't really want to ask the guy at Best Buy. Thanks in advance.

I realize there are dozens of topics on Playbar vs Beam. I've reviewed many but wanted to clarify a few items specific to my situation. I'm looking at entering the Sonos game. New build home with large open concept combined Kitchen, Dining Room Great room. Two sets of ceiling mounted speakers in kitchen and dining room each hooked up to a sonos amp on a rack in the basement. We intended to add some form of sound bar to the TV in the great room. I'll likely get some form alexa enabled device, or perhaps later in 2019 a google assistant enabled device when that becomes supported. Somewhere down the line I expect in time we will likely add 2 sonos 1's for surround to the sound bar but this might not be for a while. Given the size of the room other posts are leading me towards a Playbar over the Beam. I'll appreciate the improved sound quality which i understand will be prevalent in midrange sounds and really help TV voices and vocals not get drowned out by the room size. Would you exp
