Currently using a Play 1 as my single wired speaker but was wondering if it would be better performance wise to set up a boost instead? The Play1 links to the other Play1 and Play5 via Sonos net. Just not sure if the guts of the boost would be the same as what's inside the Play1 or better?

It would be effectively exactly the same. If it's working, you don't need to get a BOOST.

Hi pstoric83

According to Sonos the Boost has 3 antennae that broadcast in 360 degrees. Theoretically it should provide better coverage if needed. However, if the Play 1 is fulfilling the need there's no reason to spend the extra money. Click the link for info as to when a dedicated boost module might be of benefit.

Signal strength aside there other reasons you might consider a dedicated Boost module. Such as:

  • Eliminates placing a speaker in a less than desirable location
  • Smaller footprint (about the size of a hockey puck)
  • Wall mountable
Cheers!
