Voice control and smart home

Google assistant doesn’t work very well on my Sonos ARC (not very responsive and most of the time there is no answer).  A friend of mine said the same thing and then he moved to Alexa and said it worked much better.  Google works a lot better on my dedicated Google Home.  I guess the bonus of using Alexa is that you can also use the Sonos voice assistant at the same time.Not sure I want the hassle but has anyone experienced that Alexa integration on Sonos is much better?

Hello there,Until now, I was using a Google Nest Mini speaker to control my lights and plugs connected to my home.I recently got a Sonos Beam and I set up the google assistant.With the Nest Mini, in the application, when it was located in the same room as the connected plugs and lights, when turning on or off, there was a simple "ding or dong". With the Beam, even if it's in the same room, I still get a confirmation like, "Okay, I turn on the light..."Is there any way WITHOUT GOING THROUGH THE ROUTINES, to have a simple ding / dong?Thanks for your help

Can anyone help with this issue - on Sonos 1, I have installed Alexa and enabled the skills via alexa - but no BBC station will pay after the initial “BBC sounds” announcement…. I have installed……deleted, re enables, … rebooted and disabled and then re enabled the skill but to no avail…… and also……. Alexa won’t play any music at all ……..any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated…….

As described extensively in this thread, multiple users have reported the consistent need to ask Alexa (or Google Assistant) twice to play music on Sonos from Spotify.  This appears to be related to an erroneous stream limit error from Spotify that is not being handled correctly by Sonos.   A fix was apparently released for S2 systems in 2021 that resolved the issue for S2 systems, but the issue remains unresolved S1 systems.  I suspect most S1 users have either given up on Spotify, Sonos, or both at this point.As described in the above-linked thread, this problem can be replicated as follows (including on my own system):When issuing a voice command to Sonos in any room I have the following situation:If SONOS is playing or has recently played via voice command: No problem; music will play properly. Have new Roam and enabled the Alexa Skill successfully and Alexa commands work beautifully.  Should the Sonos Commands like “Sonos Play Music” still work?

Is there a way to use google assistant or alexa rather than Sonos voice. I only have one option to select a voice assistant and it is Sonos own voice assistant. I want to load alexa up or Google assistant? I used to have Google assistant on my Sonos but wanted to change it over to alexa and now I cant load any other assistant. Any info to get it working again

Hi i just paired my new sonos Roam with android phone but i can't pair google assistant. It does not appear among voice assistants...there is only "Sonos Voice Control".is it available in Italy?  

Hello, I just got my 2 Sonos Move speakers and I have been trying to get Alexa to work on them but no luck so far. As the title suggests both apps of Alexa and Sonos say that it is not available in my country, being The Netherlands. I know that Sonos officials are not permitted to point us in other solutions however if anyone knows of a solution to this one I would gladly listen to them. So far I have been using Google Assistant but I would really prefer if I got Alexa to work on these. Thank you in advance for your help.

Awaiting a Port to arrive and I am wondering if anyone has experience with the port and Meridian gear? I would like to know the following.A will the port accept and fully control its output directly from the music app using airplay 2 without opening the Sonos app. If the answer to A is yes. Does it locally control the actual volume in meridian versus digital attenuation? Mod Edit: Corrected typo

I had amazon alexa linked and working with my sonos one. Used it primarily to play spotify. At some point the announcement feature did not anymore work. I have sonos one, sonos one sl and beam gen 2 connected to my sonos network and s2 app. for that reason i disconnected voice assistant services for alexa to try repair. Now when i try to add alexa voica assistant, i can’t find it in the list of available voice assistants in sonos app - services and voice - add a voice assistant. It only lists sonos voice control. Also google assistant does not appear on the list. i followed many different advices from disabling alexa skilla, logging out and taking power off from my sonos devices without success. Any suggestions what could be the problem.

Can any Alexa assistant controls the ARC SL ?

Paired Sonos Ones in our kitchen to replace Alexa Echo.   Not when requesting music via Alexa on the Sonos, the volume is a”all over the place”.   Often starts very low or not at all, then jumps back to normal volume after 1 to 2 minute delay.   Removed and reinstalled Alexa Skill, but same problem.   Very annoying.   Just want Alexa request songs to play a normal volume and not eratic behavior.   Ideas? Moderator Notes: Edited Original post, so that it doesn’t look like it’s been replied.

Hi, I bought Beam and Sonos One last week, was working brilliantly for one week with Alexa, but this morning stopped working with Alexa. Have done everything….reset wifi, reset both speakers, logged out of all amazon accounts, deregistered devices on amazon website, in app etc. cleared apps data,uninstalled apps, renamed speakers, etc etc etc. Everytime I try to add Alexa voice assistant within Sonos app, it doesn’t (kicks back into sonos app after logging into alexa, but alexa doesn’t show up in sonos app), but in the Alexa app there appears an offline device suffixed second edition. if anyone can help please, much appreciated.   

I am trying to configure a new Arc to play nice with my Amazon Echo devices. I am able to connect the Arc to my Alexa app and control the Arc from my other Echo devices and I am able to issue commands to the Arc and have it respond however the Arc does not show up as an “Alexa-Enabled Device” within the Alexa app so my Arc has ZERO situational awareness inside of the room so it is useless to control Smart Home devices without context.  For instance, at the moment when I speak to the Echo inside a room I can say, “Turn off the lights” and it will shut off just the lights in that room. When I say the same commands to my Arc it just picks a random room and shuts off the lights. I have attempted to un-link and re-link the Sonos skill within Alexa, and disabled and re-enabled Alexa Voice Assisstant within the Sonos app. My main question is that if there is a way to get the Arc to appear within the Alexa app as an Alexa-Enabled Device or is this out of the question?

I have Sonos speakers in various rooms of the house.  Some are used often and others are not.  It seems wasteful to keep them plugged in for days/weeks at a time when they are not heavily used. I am looking at plugging some into smart plugs so I can turn them on remotely when I want them and turn them off when not in use.I plan on leaving the speaker connected to the network on all the time, since that is required.Has anyone tried this? Are there any issues I should be concerned about? Thanks,John

14 Nov 2022. Alexa on my beam has stopped playing streamed or playlist music whereas my Alexa devices are fine. Anyone know if there is a Sonos problem?

It is ridiculous how loud google assistant volume is compared to alarm / notification / music volume. There NEEDS to be a way to turn down assistant voice volume. Google assistant is unusable.Is there a way to give Sonos feedback other than through this forum?

My Sonos beam gen 1 and it’s Alexa function has issues accessing Apple Music.Ive deleted Apple Music skill from the Alexa app and re linked it etc still no joy.any idea please.

Ever since I implemented Sonos voice control, Alexa no longer works. Sonos voice control is inadequate, in my opinion, so I would really like to reactivate Alexa.is Alexa permanently inoperable after you implement Sonos voice?Alexa will repeat my command, but no music will play.

Alexa and Sonos stopped working a couple of days ago. I’ve removed and factory reset everything reinstalled and setup again but with no joy. All other alexa devices work fine

Sonos was working perfectly!  Then we went away for 3 weeks. When we came back:  I can ask Alexa questions etc etc , but when I ask for music example ‘Play BBC Radio 2’ it responds saying ‘Playing BBC Radio 2 from BBC sounds’ but nothing plays , Same request ‘Play Virgin Radio’ responds ‘Saying playing Virgin Radio from TuneIn Radio’ but nothing comes out of the speaker. -Also Amazon Music does not work, when asking ‘Play 90’s music’ response i get is ‘first enable the skill for the Sonos beam in the Alexa App and then discover devices’  this I think is the problem and what devices is it trying to discover ?   I also have the sonos beam in my TV room for the last year and it is also doing the same. When I manually play songs from the SONOS APP….it plays beautifully.  But we got it because it could play our favorite RADIO stations or songs upon request.  It no longer does that.  It keeps doing as described in the second paragraph below.  

I’ve used my Sonos devices with Harmony for many years without any issues until recently.. it appears since the recent update to my Sonos One devices the harmony commands no longer respond. I’ve also noticed that when I open the Sonos app it takes a couple of attempts for it to recognise my speakers - any ideas ?
