Voice control and smart home

Until recently I regularly used my Amazon Echo Dot (Alexa device) to start playing music from Apple Music on my Sonos speakers using the Alexa Sonos skill. Recently it stopped working--either nothing plays or Alexa gives some “I can’t do that” error. If I have the Sonos app open on my phone while this failure is happening, I can tell my request to Alexa has succeeded in part because I see a stream of messages like this in the app:In the Sonos app I can search for something and pick a match from Apple Music and successfully play the matching track. All of this implies to me that there’s neither a networking problem nor a problem with my Sonos system’s connection to Apple Music. (I did the “reauthorize” operation just in case; it didn’t help.)Any ideas?

In the lounge I have an Amazon Echo speaker and a Play One SL. For the last few years I have been able to ask Alexa to Play Apple Music and it would play over Sonus. Two days ago is started having trouble and displayed a message in the Sonos App “The connection to play.iTunes.apple.com was lost” I can use the Alexa voice command on the Echo speaker to play Apple Music on the Echo speaker so the Apple Music Skill is connected correctly. I can use the Sonos app on a mobile device to play Apple Music and I can then use Alexa commands on the Sonos speaker to skip tracks. I can use Alexa voice commands on Sonos to ask for time, weather, control lamps and TV. If I change to the Sonos voice assistant commands I CAN play Apple Music using voice commands. The only combination that does not work is using Alexa voice commands and asking to play Apple Music on Sonos. I have sonos throughout my home and sonos amps connected to non sonos speakers. When I send an alexa announcement it goes to my sonos devices and alexa devices like echo show...my ecobee thermostats.....  but is there anyway to get it to announce to in built home speakers , I have 12... connected to all my sonos amps? Even if I need a pass through device? I hate that it doesn't go to all my rooms... you would think sonos would somehow enable this....

My go to voice assistant for Sonos is Alexa Voice control. That said I’ve been playing with Alexa Plus * and here are my impressions thus far.  As advertised It will accept multiple (or string commands). However, contrary to Amazon promotion, IMO they must be spoken deliberately and not too fast. Here’s an example:Turn on TV, kitchen and bedroomThe first command was my Sonos Room with Arc Ultra home theater setup. The second and third were smart lights. I can also ask Alexa Plus to play music in any of my Sonos rooms.  Such as:Echo play Sirius XM Watercolors on FireplaceHowever, I have not been able to incorporate such a command as part of a string. I’ve tried starting the string command with the request to play music in the beginning and at the end; to no avail.I’m not going to be using my Alexa branded devices to initiate multiple commands on a regular basis; if at all.  My needs as far as voice assistances are concerned are simple. I’m sadly having issues with the voice control on my Sonos Beam Gen. 2. I turned of the voice control a few days ago over the beam. I mainly did it to turn off the LED. Now I wanted to turn on Voice Control again, so i clicked on the microphone symbol on my Beam and the LED turned on again. When trying to actually use voice control, the Beam would not react. I tried to turn off Voice Control and turn it on again but when turning it off the LED would not turn off anymore (I tried it over the app and directly on the Beam). Now the LED is constantly on, the Voice Control doesn’t work anymore, and i’m completely clueless…Is there a known solution to my issue? Thanks for any help! 

Any news on Sonos adopting the Matter standard?

I see you support /most/ of the big music providers - not youtube yet.  There is great interest in this capability by your consumers, please add me to the list.  Had I done my research ahead of time and realized it wasn’t supported (and your app is a recovering disaster) I probably wouldn’t have bought into Sonos.Please, fix things and offer this HUGELY used service.

Can I have the preferred speaker for my Sonos smart edge be the Sonos Amp similar to how an Amazon echo can have its preferred speaker be the echo link amp?

Hi, I have been trying to set up Alexa on my Sonos Roam (since Google Assistant could never discover my device, which is a whole separate issue), to play Spotify but whenever I tell Alexa to play Spotify, it says I have to enable the skill in the Alexa app, which I have already done.Spotify is set up in the Alexa app as well as default music service, and in the Sonos Mobile App as music service, both are set up with the same Spotify Premium account. No matter what I do, Alexa can’t find the spotify skill for some reason. I say “Alexa, Play Spotify” and it says “To do that, enable the skill for the Sonos Roam in your Alexa App, then ask me to discover devices.” The Sonos Skill is enabled, and there are no devices to be discovered when I ask it to. I’m so very lost, do I need to contact Amazon since this is an issue with Alexa? Or can this be solved here?

My Alexa feature has just disappeared, I tried resetting but should the device be known as Sonos one Alexa or just Sonos one? when adding new device the system only sees Sonos one not with Alexa is that right? do you add Alexa separately?  heads spinning 

Whenever I ask voice control to play a song it plays a different one. I tried rebooting it but it still doesn’t work. If anyone knows how to fix it please share it with me!🤔🙏

I am trying to set up Notifications / Alerts when my Ring Doorbell is p messed across my SONOS devices.  I have linked the Ring device to my Alexa app, and which is also connected to my SONOS speakers.  In the Alexa APP the only announcement devices listed is my BEAM.  Neither of my SONOS One devices are listed.  All work for Alexa voice control of music etc on the same account.

Being new on Sonos, I’d like to know if it’s possible to share my IPhone 12 music library with my Sonos Era100 so that I could use voice control to play my own playlist. If so, how do I proceed, step by step, I barely know how those things work. Bit old! 🙏

Hi, I have a few play:1 and a beam along with Spotify subscription. Can anyone recommend an open source home automation (and code?) to automatically play my Sonos with Spotify in the morning, then off in the evening?Bonus would be to eventually have it turn off if my phone or zoom rings, or when I leave the house. I also have an old echo dot I could hook up if necessary, but not sure I’m cool with Amazon listening to everything.Or, an automatic one tap solution. 

When trying to install Google assistant on my new sonos arc I select the installation but after selecting open assistant the spinning wheel just keeps going. Try again comes up but Judy the same thing happens  I am so over all the issue with sonos. Very disappointing 

I yesterday updated as recommended the link for Android 12 and updated my Sonos Era 100 speakers.  The updates stopped them from playing the raadio stations.  Alexa responds when I ask it to play for example BBC Radio 2 but then nothing.  Previously I could ask Alexa to play various radio stations with no problems.  My speakers are only 6mth old.Any suggestions on how to fix this.  When I bought the speakers I didn't have to set up skills to play the radio stations but now I keep being prompted to set them up..I only want to listen to various stations 

why cant hey sonos find BBC radio stations

Hi , A simple question from Australia , I cannot get either voice assistants Alexa or Sonos to connect to radio stations in Australia . The message comes up “ can’t find this station “ . I can connect manually through the Sonos app to any radio station , not by voice .Thankyou for any advice , John 

Are there any plans to bring YouTube music compatibility to SVC? I see in the forum this has been a recurring topic and something the community are looking for, but haven’t seen confirmation one way or another from Sonos. I was ready to cave and just use Google Assistant instead so I could at least play my music with voice commands, then discovered Sonos won’t let me use Google Assistant with most of my Sonos devices. Sonos represents itself out as compatible with YouTube Music but it really isn’t feeling that way…

Can't add Sonos Voice Control into Era 100, but Alexa works well.

I don’t have wired Internet to the flat only a wireless router can I still use voice assistant or does the Sonos system bar from connecting

Why isn’t Iheart radio working when I ask alexa to play on my beam in the past 2 weeks.  Will work if I go through my phone or computer

Hi I’ve just got a era 100 - trying to work it out! I’ve realised it doesn’t do voice commands from you tube music so I’ve subscribed to Amazon music ( which it’s not brilliant at playing tracks from, it hardly ever get s the track I want) but all my playlists are in YouTube music…Is there anyway of copying or transferring playlists from ytm to Amazon? if I go into the app and select play from ytm ‘my super mix’  - it creates a playlist with 33600 tracks on it!! And some don’t work because they have failed to ‘encode properly’ is there a way to re encode it? anyway to get Amazon to play the same 33600 tracks !!  

I ask Alexa, “Play FOX News”……..nothing happens.  I say to Alexa, “I think you’re censoring me! Play FOX NEWS!” ……...Alexa plays FOX News!  It works every time. What is going on?

After the November 18th Sonos update it appears that the Alexa/Sonos integration skills no longer work.  After disabling the skill in the Alexa app and then adding it back, Alexa cannot find any of my Sonos devices.  However, my Sonos devices from within the Sonos app work just fine.  It appears the API is having issues?
