Google Assistant no longer works with Spotify

I have a Sonos One. At the end of January Google Assistant stopped being able to play tracks on Spotify (it would work with other commands). There was at least one other forum post about a similar issue and there was even a Status post at https://status.sonos.com/ for the issue. I opened a support case and it was recommended that I watch the status post.

However, a couple of weeks ago the status post disappeared (I can no longer see it, but the link was https://status.sonos.com/incidents/5g9b95ggcymg) and yet it still doesn’t work. I have tried many variations on removing and resetting connections and still nothing.

Surely I am not the only one who still has this issue?! Thanks!

Thanks, again. I actually just disconnected and reconnected everything again and it worked this time. I am not sure what the difference was. But for prosperity:

  1. In Home app: remove Sonos from Works with Google.
  2. In Home app: unlink Spotify.
  3. In Sonos app: in General Settings, Voice Assistants, remove Google Assistant.
  4. In Sonos app: under Your Services, Manage, remove Spotify.

I am not sure I had ever done step (4), so maybe it was that. I think it might need a specific order of setting everything up in Home app (Sonos, Spotify), then Voice Assistant and Spotify in the Sonos app. Really odd, but it works now!

No, you’re not the only user. There are many posts here about issues with Google Assistant. Did you use the search function to look for posts with similar or the same issue?

Here is one such post that has been answered:

Hi. Thanks for the reply!

This post is from a year ago. I am specifically asking about the issue related to the status post from just over a month ago. Everything worked fine before that issue and hasn’t since, no matter what I have tried.

I did try and search but there’s no way to filter by date so it was difficult trying to find any newer issues.

So you should also be aware that Googles transition to Gemini could also be affecting this from Googles side?

Then there is the lawsuit between Sonos and Google that may be hampering any collaboration on services between the two.

Its a good idea to post issues here in hopes that mods may pass on the request from Google users to fix this, but it may take a while…
