Voice control and smart home

I’m one of those people who don’t feel comfortable having (specifically) Alexa-powered speakers all over the house. I also had invested entirely in home-wide Play:1s (with a Playbar and Sub to round out the TV) before the Sonos One came out. I’d like Airplay 2 and (eventually) HomeKit support. But it seems like unless I swap out my speakers for Sonos Ones, which would be an expensive endeavor, I’m S.O.L. Swapping out just one won’t do the trick, because — if I understand correctly — each Sonos One can only control the speakers it’s grouped with at any given time. I have 10 zones/rooms that I often group and ungroup from one another. So, if I’ve got to open the app to adjust the grouping first, it kind of defeats the point. Does it stand to reason that Sonos should be able to release a HomeKit Hub device (akin to Wemo or Hue) that would be able to interpret Siri commands on your phone as well as interface with HomeKit, and then relay that out to the appropriate legacy speakers (Play:

My setup is a Sonos Beam connected via HDMI to the HDMI ARC port of the LG TV. I also have a Verizon Set top box connected to the TV via another HDMI port. Alexa voice activation has been activated. Simplink is active, but displays on the LG menu as being associated with the cable box port. I am able to control volume, switch to music sources and switch back to TV via Alexa voice command, but I am not able to turn the TV on or off. So I'm not really sure what is happening, but I'm no sure how or if I can get the on/off function to work. any suggestions? thanks.

I've just installed a Beam and I'm trying to set it as the Alexa device for a group/room, but it doesn't show up as one. It does show as an Echo and Alexa device in the Alexa app.

Just noticed that in last few days when I say “Play X in bedroom” instead of the group that bedroom is in playing, bedroom is ungrouped and playback started independently. When did this change, is it configurable, and if not what’s the recommendation for how groups should work now? I have 10 zones and often listen in different combinations. My expectation is that I can address any member of a group to control the whole group. Am I supposed to create groups in the Alexa app and always start playback with them instead? That’s fiddly.

So, Alexa smart groups seem to be working. I have some smart lights and an Echo in the lounge along with a Sonos connect. In the kitchen I have more lights, another Echo and a Sonos Play:3 speaker. I can now create Alexa enabled smart groups, which means that when I'm in a room with an Alexa device, and I've defined the other devices in that room, I can now say "Alexa, turn lights on" and only the lights in that room come on, and I don't have to say the room name, or the light's names at all. This is a deliberate (and very good) move by Amazon to simplify the language you have to use with Alexa. My request would be, please, please, please, can Sonos make their Alexa skill work with this? This to me would seem to be the most logical way of fixing multi-room audio ducking as there should be a way for Alexa to work out that it only needs to duck Sonos speakers in the same room, which it can now work out. It would also be great if a Sonos device (or room group in Sonos)

Both of my ONEs now respond to all requests to play anything with the voice response 'Undefined'. Other Alexa commands (such as 'what's the weather today') work fine. I recently re-enabled the Alexa Sonos skill, so the problem may be related to that, or (less likely) the 9.3 update. Any ideas for an expedient fix? Thanks.

I have a stereo pair ones and all have worked well with Alexa until just recently when I noticed Alexa won’t stop playing when I say Alexa stop or Alexa stop Spotify. It hears what I’m saying since the confirmation sound comes but then it just ignores this command. She seems to think Spotify is not playing at all for some reason as I asked “what song is playing on Spotify” and the answer was “Spotify is not playing now” even though it was, and was even started by Alexa just a minute earlier. Anyone recognize this and/or have a solution?

Hi all, I'm very new to Sonos (have owned a Sonos One for about 3-weeks and I love it!) I have tried searching to no avail. Everything comes back saying that Alexa Routines are unavailable on the Sonos One, which I understand, but, with Prime Day coming soon, I was looking into an Echo Dot and didn't know if you can use the Sonos One as a speaker for the Echo Dot routine? Can I do the following: 1. On the Echo Dot, say "good morning". The Echo Dot will respond with some pre-determined phrase like "good morning". 2. The Echo Dot will then give me a weather update. 3. Then the Alexa Routine will play TuneIn Radio on the Sonos One. Many thanks in advance.

i have made some applets in ifttt using sonos , working all fine ( and I can give them a name or tittle I want)...and now I see that sonos has made some applets theirselves using 2 actions together ( which we can not do on our own if we make an applet) so now I wonder if we can rename that kind of pre build applets, this woud be very handy... (I use applet thats sets volume and the choice of favourite, working fine, but i can not rename that applet or widget, so i will never know which volume and favourite are underneath the widget button)... so either we can build own applets using more then one action, or we should be able to rename the pre build sonos apllets

Since I added a SonosOne to my existing setup (I already had a 5 and two 3's in my living room, hooked to my Dot, and another Alexa in the house), I've had Sonos start playing music randomly in the middle of the night a few times. They have all been days where I had played a lot of music ... can't imagine how that is related, but it seems like more than coincidence. I live alone and have no pets, so nothing could be causing this - doesn't make sense.

Hello, I have recently set up 2 Sonos ones as a stereo pair, they are very impressive! I have set up the Alexa app & Sonos app etc. This all seems to be working. I have some echos too. I was a little dissapointed to discover that you can’t set up Alexa Multi-Room with Sonos devices even though this has been opened up to third party devices: https://developer.amazon.com/blogs/alexa/post/c4bbbbaf-3559-4b5e-b920-83a9d594e732/alexa-play-rolling-in-the-deep-everywhere-announcing-multi-room-music-for-products-with-alexa-built-in?tag=androidpolice-20 Am I missing something? Also I don’t seem to be experiencing the irritating ‘ducking’ behaviour others have... maybe this has been fixed?

Alexa assumes I live in the UK, which I do not. My Amazon account is US, my phone and iPad are also US. Where is it getting this from and how to change it?

Hello fellow Sonosers. My new Beam is great, Alexa integration not so great, but hey, starving children in Africa and all that. I’m currently having a problem where I have deleted all the Audio Actions from all my Routines yet Alexa insists on saying “Audio actions in routines are not supported on this device” every.... single.... time. Does anyone know why it is doing this, especially after I have removed all the Audio Actions? Asking before I factory reset the Beam.

It's DECEMBER!!!!!! When will the ducking "feature" disable option be available????? we're tired of waiting, only for you to say "you're working on it"???!!!!

Love my Sonos One but didn't realize how crippled Alexa is with its routines and such. Is there any info whether the Google Assistant will also be half-working or will it have full functionality? I might have to migrate to either full Alexa or Google if that's not the case. I'm getting fed up with Sonos and the "not yet supported on this device" bs.

Hi Is it possible to set it up to mute both microphones on a paired set of Sonos Ones by pressing the mute button on just one of the pair?

Just setup the Sonos One. All steps were followed and setup went smoothly, However it is not responding to any commands. It does acknowledge the command where I ask to play music, but doesn't complete the action. Diag:8022698

Please help, Cant activate voice services on my new Sonos One. Wifi set up, Spoify connected sounds great. Just can't activate voice control. Reset Sonos one to factory setttings, done set up again. Tried voice and same issue. Amazon account is all set up for UK. Added another Sonos one speaker, Same issue no Alexa!

So if I have used the Sonos cloud API to connect my Sonos account to a 3rd party service or app, how do I revoke that permission?

Hello - I have a Beam that is connected to my TV, but it will not turn on the TV. Once the TV is on, Alexa will turn it off. But when the TV is off and I say “Alexa, turn on the TV”, she responds with “Ok”.....but nothing happens. Is this a bug? Does anyone know how to fix it? Thank you in advance!!

Does a list exist of exactly what functions from the Echo will be available built-in on the Sonos One ? Obviously, Echo allows you to make calls between devices these days etc.. But is this functionality included in the Sonos One or not ? Also, what else is potentially missing ? We really need a table showing Echo functionality and then what Echo functionality is included on a Sonos One. Really tempted buying Sonos One's - but need to understand what would be missing in Alexa functionality first..

Hi there -- I recently bought an Amazon Echo and paired it with my Sonos One speaker. Now, I can give voice commands to the Echo to play music on the Sonos speaker, which is great. However, I was curious to see if both speakers can play the music I tell Alexa to play, but at the same time. It would be cool to create a 'surround sound' type of situation, as it currently only plays on one speaker at a time. Would love to see if this is a possibility, thanks!

I have a Sonos One and a Beam that control hue lights, ecobee, harmony hub, etc. I got tired of hearing that phrase when I use my “Good Night” routine or routines involving my harmony hub (such as saying “Netflix” instead of “Turn on Netflix”) so I started experimenting. Routines work fine with specific device control but introducing a scene or group results in the “Audio actions blah blah blah” message. I found that if you use Yonomi to create the scene, then create the routine in Alexa and call the Yonomi scene, that it works without the message. So creating a routine in the Alexa app that directly calls the harmony hub scene “Netflix” will result in “Audio actions . . .” But creating a routine in the Alexa app that calls the Yonomi scene that calls the harmony hub scene “Netflix” works without the “Audio actions . . .” message. I have no idea why but I found this after a few hours of testing and thought I’d share.

Hello, I read in this article (https://blog.sonos.com/en/google-assistant-update/) that Google Assistant integration is coming up soon. I own a Google Home and a Google Home mini and integration with Google Assistant is vital (I believe) to me. Can I purchase the products before this moment and wait for the update, or I will need to wait for the integration to be publicly done? Thank you for your time.
