We’ve been using Alexa with Sonos since the Beta test and everything’s been hunky dory until last week I’ve replaced a couple of Sonos with Sonos ones and in doing so lost the hard wired link to the Mac. After a bit of faff I’ve reconnected and all seems to work from the desktop and app but sadly Alexa seems to have issues when you ask her to play radio or music she does the usual “bbc radio 2 from tunein” followed by “sorry the device is offline” I’ve tried searching for devices etc but nothing seems to work. Any advice greatfully received. Thanks

Hi, as i'm now almost having Sonos One speakers for 1 year waiting for a miracle to happen that Alexa will work in Belgium, i'm giving up. So when is Google assistant coming to Sonos speakers with voice control? There are competitors like LG ThinQ WK7 that are able to offer a speaker with Google assistant! Why is Sonos not able to offer the same? It takes now a year and no progress? best regards, Dirk

While the new sonos one is a step in the right direction I gather the functionality probably is limited as most speakers are set up in acoustically strategic locations in any given room where it might be a bit far from your favorite lounge chair, the dining table or even your bed. Unless one lives in a sonically sterile environment or enjoy having a loud conversation it might be cumbersome except maybe for fitbit enthusiasts to rack up the steps to get within earshot of a given speaker in a given room. Also secondary problem of integrating voice control to existing\legacy speakers. Sonos if you are listening I present my case, a miniature microphone array control device (like the echo dot\ google home mini) maybe smaller integrated with the boost which can be on your dining\coffee\center table and would accommodate a practical solution to not discount your loyal customer base over the years. Please can someone tell me how to set up my Beam to work with Amazon Echo's in a multiroom set up. I cannot find the Beam in the Alexa App.

Thought I'd start a conversation to help other Rako users and the Sonos community to dismistify the setup. To control Sonos speakers from a Rako Controls keypad, you'll need a Rako Bridge and Rako Cloud Gateway (includes an Audio Control Module license) which combined discover and communicate locally to the Sonos speakers. You then need to register your Cloud Gateway at my.rakocontrols.com. Once the Cloud Gateway is configured, you can create a MyRako Sonos activity containing input mappings to control Sonos favourites, setting volume, changing tracks, etc. To give you a scenario for this, I've converted my garage to a gym. In the garage I have a Play 3 and Rako keypad to control the lighting. I got fed up with having to use my phone's Sonos or Spotify app to control the music. So I mapped the garage keypad so that when "1" (scene 1) is pressed the lights come on AND a Sonos favourite is selected on the Play 3. When "Off" is pressed, the lighting goes off and the Play 3 is paused

I noticed I had an Alexa update on my phone and it made me hopeful of a change. So I enabled the Sonos skill and the Sonos speakers all over the house still Duck. I tried disabling a couple of rooms in the app but they still Duck! I made a room for those speakers and a different room for the Dot... nope, still Ducks other speakers. This is just crazy. Please tell me the last update fixed it but I'm just not bright enough to figure it out 🆒

I have the issue that Alexa is not responding. The microphone is on. It works for a couple of hours after I redo the setup process of Alexa in the Sonos App but then it stops working. No response at all when saying "Alexa". Is there a fix or someone else with the same problem? Thanks Max

Is there a right way to position a Sonos:One in order for Alexa to hear me better? Having difficulties using the wake word. This is my first Alexa/Echo type product.

I recently bought a Sonos Beam which i am really enjoying. After i bought it i realized that it could not be used with Alexa multi room music which was very disappointing. I have been trying to find out if i can use an Amazon Echo Input with my Sonos Beam and then add it to my multi room music in the Alexa app using the Input. I feel like this is just too easy of a solution and there has to be a catch. Any help is appreciated.

Need assurance that my investment in SONOS as a high quality/high output smart "Alexa capable" system was not a waste and that all of the components I've thus far purchased was not a waste of A LOT of money. Since SONOS appears NOT to be able or CANNOT offer fully functional Alexa integration due to whatever licensing agreements or other decisions that were made that resulted in a lesser functioning Alexa system than its Amazon cousin; why should I continue to invest in what are very impressive speakers - and for now the superior speakers over Amazon speakers? With it looking like Amazon is stepping up its game in offering a larger selection of high quality/high output speakers- that are not limited by a partially functional Alexa AI system - why shouldn't I unload the SONOS gear I've purchased and start investing in what looks to be like an up-and-coming powerhouse of Amazon speakers?

It seems the volume of the Alexa voice is linked directly to the volume of the Sonos One unit. That means if I'm playing quiet music in the background, and I activate Alexa, I can't really hear her voice at all. That also means if I am playing loud music, after the "ducking" to mute the music the voice is really loud. The volume should be independent or perhaps some proportional volume of the music.

Hi - I've just changed my wifi router (we now have fibre broadband instead of ADSL, and needed new router to enable this), but now I have problems streaming music and radio via Alexa. Before this change, our two Sonos Ones (in different rooms) worked fine with built-in Alexa, as did our stereo pair of Sonos Play:1s with our Echo Dot. Following the change of router, I've updated SSIDs / passwords accordingly, but have now found that whilst Alexa responds to me on all devices (it will tell me the time, etc.), it will not play music / radio (when I ask it to do so, it will say e.g. "BBC Radio 1 from TuneIn playing on Living Room", but doesn't actually play it). My Sonos system still works fine for all rooms if I operate it via the Sonos app (e.g. I can play BBC Radio 1 from TuneIn, and music from Spotify, etc., if ask it to do so via the app). Hey there, i am trying to play Spotify through a Sonos Beam, but no matter what i try, Alexa keeps telling me to "first link my spotify premium account throught he Alexa App", which i already did (a couple of times for good measure). Radio on Sonos Beam plays correctly, Spotify on Sonos plays correctly, Alexa works correctly, Spotify premium plays correctly through my Dot and Echo (1st gen)

Hi, newbie,so be nice..having problems with echo input and sonos5, if i ask it for example to "play radio one to sonos" it works, but if i ask Alexa a question it seems the input is active but i get no sound from it.if i plug it into my Makita radio aux it works fine and i can hear Alexas replies. Any ideas please?

I’ve got a Sonos one, and both Alexa and Siri up and running. I’ve got my Hue lights coming on automatically when I get home. All good. Except I’d really like a selected playlist (or anything for that matter) to start playing also. I have ecobee sensors and geo fence, if that’s relevant. Any ideas?

I'm confused by this IFTTT applet. I want to stop all music on ALL Sonos devices if ANY Nest Protect detects smoke. I'd assume this is what most people want to happen in an emergency, however the applet only allows you to select one Sonos device to stop and one Nest Protect to use as a trigger! Am I missing something obvious? Presumably you can't have multiple versions of the applet for all the different permutations?

Recently purchased 2 x Ones to replace my Echos. So Alexa is already setup and configured to work with my Hue lights. The new One’s work well with the Hue Scenes, whole rooms go on and off easily. However, if I choose to pick one specific light to turn on or off I get: “XXX isn’t responding. Please check network or power...” The lights are all active in the Alexa app and I can turn them on/off from there. Help would be appreciated ?

Now here’s the thing. In the bedroom I have a Amazon Echo. It answers to the wake up “Computer”. I can say “Computer, turn on the Bedroom lights” and low and behold my Philips Hue Lights glow in wonderful colours. In the Sitting Room I have and expensive Sonos One. It answers to the wake up “Alexa” (so no conflict with the Amazon Echo). I can say “Alexa, turn on the Bedroom lights” and low and behold (after the annoying beep” NOTHING. Well actually the Sonos replies “Sorry I didn’t find a device called Bedroom lights” or sometimes it replies “Bedroom Sonos does not support that”. How can a £35 Amazon product work perfectly every time yet after 6 months I can still not get my expensive Sonos speaker to do anything. It seems, while reading this blog, that many many people have problems and Sonos is unable to resolve or even understand the issues. Whilst I love your products for their quality and operation via the App I already hate them for their voice control. I worry that

Had a sonos one linked to my amazon music account controlled using the Alexa voice services for about 15 months and had experienced no problems playing playlists and shuffling music. In the last 3 months or so the sonos one fails to play the second song on a playlist. The music simply finishes at the end of the first song. Within the sonos app I am able to advance to the next song manually. Initially I was able to resolve the problem by relinking the amazon music account and voice services although it drops out every couple of weeks. When I went to relink this evening it has failed to resolve the problem. Whilst I might be able to resolve the problem in the next few days with continued efforts to relink I am not overly impressed with the fact that it keeps dropping out. All devices and apps are up to date. Would welcome any thoughts? Is this a known sonos bug with a fix coming, since it worked for 15months or so it would suggest software upgrade related.

Hi all, I have been using Sonos with Alexa and Spotify for ages now. When I say "Alexa, play Stairway to heaven", it plays it just fine on my Echo, then stops. (no autoplay) When I say "Alexa, play Stairway to Heaven in the Family Room" (I have a Sonos called family room, but this happens on any of my Sonos devices), it plays Stairway to Heaven fine on my FR Sonos, but then continues to Autoplay songs after that. For some reason, when I control the Sonos through Alexa/Spotify, it controls Spotify with the autoplay feature on. I have disabled Autoplay on Spotify on both mobile and desktop. Again, when using the same exact command to play on the Echo, it does it great. Only when it plays on the Sonos does it play more random songs, which is extremely annoying. How can I disable Autoplay when using Alexa to launch a Spotify song on my Sonos? Again, everything is configured properly and the Sonos skill works fine. Just have to turn off autoplay. Thanks!

Hi, I have several Sonos Ones in my house. Whenever we have friends over I unplug two of the speaker to make a stereo pair using the Sonos app. It works very well. However when I unplug the speakers and move them back the Alexa functionality seems to not work properly eg it will call up Spotify songs etc but won’t stop or skip I have found that re-enabling the Sonos skill in the Alexa app will fix this for one of the speakers, but not the other. Ultimately turning the speaker off then on (Classic!) fixes it. Is this a common issue? I don’t mind this minor inconvenience but my family would not be able to sort this out! Cheers Ian
