I'm sorry if this has been solved elsewhere, In fact I'm sure I read of a solution but now I can't find the relevant information. I have a Beam connected to Arc point - Dolby Digital Audio from an app within the TV such as Netflix or Prime pushes dolby digital through to the Beam. Lovely. However, trying to get Dolby Digital from my Sky Box (into HDMI 1) or Xbox (into HDMI 3) and then to pass through to the Beam via the Arc isn't possible 😞 My TV doesn't support HDMI audio passthrough. I'm sure I read of an hdmi switch box or some kind of workaround that would allow me to get Dolby from sky box through to the Beam via my TV's Arc connection?!
I’ve not found an answer for this despite much searching, so.... Has anyone experience of using Play 1s with a Beam as an additional speaker for classical music? I have 2 play 1s and an almost dead soundbar which I am considering replacing with a Beam. I would only use the Beam for TV, not worried about surround, but I do a lot of music listening and my room is reasonably sized and I wondered if the Beam could add any depth to the listening. The Beam and and TV are/would be at the other end of the room from the 2 Play 1s. Any thoughts, help much appreciated!
Considering buying Beam but have old TV no HDMI ARC
Hi all, Since installing 9.1 on my system, I've been having an issue with the app whilst listening to music. If say I've got the current track screen up and then take focus away from the app and go back, the current song screen is totally blank. I've got to tap something else in the app and go back for it to "refresh" the details. Is anyone else experiencing this?
Hi, I can play my sonos system through the app on my phone, but my PC controller says it can't connect to the system "Sorry we can't connect to Sonos". I checked and both PC and phone are on the same network. How can i get the PC controller to work?
I have some music apps which have playlist, albums which I listen more than a radio station. Also i want to watch YouTube video and listen to them through sonos speaker. Pls advise
It would be very useful to have Sonos remember playback position for audiobook files. This is a setting in iTunes. Why can't this be implemented in Sonos? Supposedly this is implemented for aa files, but not all audiobooks are aa files, I have many in mp3, m4a and m4b format. If this can be done for aa, why not the other formats?
hello everyone, sorry for my english google. I'm going to buy a system are multi rooms but I'm lost in the splendid models and possibilities I have an apartment of about 100 square meters, I like to listen well to music, even vinyl. Hello everybody, I want to connect my PS4 slim directly to the Sonos Beam, because my TV has no hdmi arc. Is this possible by using a 1 to 2 hdmi splitter and connecting the first hdmi cable to the tv and the second one to the beam? Best, mmae
Hi guys. I just purchased two Play 1's to go with my Beam. The Beam is connected to a 2016 Samsung vis HDMI Arc. I'm not sure if Im getting surround sound. While watching "normal" tv on occasions/intermittently the rears don't come on. Plus I was expecting a huge difference with the new set up. Here is my current setting on the TV HDMI Audio Format = Bitstream Audio Format= PCM (The other option is DTS Neo 2.5. Dolby Digital is greyed out) Checked on the Sonos Controller and the Beam's Audio in is Stereo, but The Play 1's doesn't indicate any Audio in (Should it?) Do I need to change the settings on my Samsung? Your help will be muchly appreciated. Cheers
Hello! I'm very new to this, and looking for a simple setup that "just works" for TV sound and music in the entire apartment. The apartment: TV in the living room, kitchen and an extra room. I would like sound from the TV in the living room and be able to play music in all the rooms. The equipment: I'm thinking a Beam and a Sub connected to the TV and a One in the kitchen and the extra room. My goal is minimal clicking in apps and music just playing and sounding great. I use Spotify for streaming and would love to just use the Spotify connect feature from the Spotify app. I have no need for surround sound or so. The scenarios that confuses me: 1. What will happen if i just turn on the TV and start playing a Netflix movie? Will the Beam and Sub start and play sound from the TV, or do I have to go into an app or something? 2. When not watching TV and I want to start some music, how would I go about that? Which app would i use? Would i need to group or ungroup stuff t
I have an old TV in my family room which will not connect directly to my Sonos Beam, so I have optically connected the Beam to my Sky HD box. I have a second TV in my kitchen that uses a magic eye connection so I can control and watch Sky programmes remotely via the coax out connection from my Sky box to my kitchen TV. When I switch on the Sky box from the kitchen, the Beam comes to life in the living room and plays the Sky content, even if I have previously muted it. How can I mute the Beam so that it stays muted until I explicitly unmute it? When I submitted this as a question to the Sonos team, they suggested disabling autoplay, but as I understand it this would require that I always have a smart phone to start the Beam playing in the family room, which is overkill. I'd love to see a feature whereby the box stays in the state you last left it (maybe with an upper volume limit so you don't risk breaking your ears when you unmute)
So when I walked outside after two days of torrential down pours. We live in Pennsylvania and we were hit with the residual effects of hurricane Florence . I walked outside and saw my play three was left outside during all this rain . It was even plugged in. Well maybe the The play 3 is an outdoor speaker because I plugged it in and it worked and it sounds as good ever! Phew . maybe I got lucky Ir perhaps this is the first time they ever tested one of the speakers outside in the rain
I'm looking to expand my pair of Ones in the living room with a Beam in the kitchen, to effectively get surround sound with the Ones next to the sofa and the Beam right in front, since the sofa is facing the kitchen. First of all, is this a good setup? I'm mainly using the speakers for music, and sometimes video via airplay. What are the dimensions of the two holes under the Beam? I was thinking mount the Beam flush with the kitchen cupboards, by drilling two holes in the cupboard under the microwave (picture attached) where there is space for screws (that are in the two bottom holes of the Beam), flip the speaker upside down, and secure it with bolts/nuts & rubber washers (to minimise vibrations) from above. Avoiding a Flexson mount would get the Beam closer up to the cupboard.
Everywhere I read, it says that when placed in horizontal orientation, the inside tweeters are disabled to maintain stereo separation. My two stereo paired play 5s disable the outside and keep playing from the middle and inside. This seems backwards to me. I have them located in two alcoves on either side of my fireplace, so they are firing into the side of my fireplace. I would like the outside active, like I've read about, as they would have a better chance of bouncing off the room's walls and help fill the space. I love them and how they sound, but this contradiction from what I've read and what I am experiencing is confusing. I tried unpairing and re-pairing and I get the same thing. Any insight would be appreciated.
Is there any reason to get the Sonos One over the Play:1 if you have the Beam which already comes with Alexa?
My mother ordered 4 Sonos One's, and since I own a couple Play:1s and a Play:3, I thought I'd do a simple side by side comparison of the 3. Simple setup, all 3 of them side by side, and ran Trueplay on all 3. Played a variety of songs from orchestra to rock. I'm no audio expert, but here's a couple things I noticed about the sound quality. This may not be a surprise to a lot of people! :) 1. Play:3 obviously had more bass due to the extra driver. 2. Play:1 has more bass than the Sonos One 3. Sonos One sounds clearer/sharper than the Play:1 and Play:3 4. Play:1 and Play:3 sound clarity were very close, Play:1 maybe slightly better in some cases. This is a side by side comparison and I probably wouldn't have known the difference otherwise (besides the bass in the Play:3.) Overall, they all sound great to me!!
Queue position is lost when switching from music to TV. Now that I have a playbar, I regularly switch my input from music to TV. When switching from TV to music I would like to be able to listen from where I was in my queue earlier, but system doesn't remember.
Hi Just set up the Beam, its hooked up to a LG 49UH652T using the supplied HDMI cable. Two issues: 1. Theres a lipsync problem when watching free to air television 2. Alexa cant control the tv on/off functionality. The sound is great! But if its not in sync its a problem. Any ideas or support are very welcome.
I programmed my television remote for the Sonos system yesterday. The Samsung screen displays a "not available" message when using the tv remote with the Sonos system. How do I remove this message?
Just went to Best Buy today, and the Play 3 has been REMOVED from the new Sonos display--just a Play 1, Play 5, and the new ONE. The guy told me it's still for sale, but it's being discontinued. Anybody else heard this? Is it going to be replaced with another Play 3 type "middle of the road" speaker, I wonder?
I have a sonos setup consisting of playbar, sub, and play5's version 2. I also have a set of meridian dsp8000 active speakers that I would like to integrate into the sonos system. Can this be done by using the connect and running it directly into the dsp8000 speakers?
Before we got our BEAM, I have a CONNECT that was running to a Bose Playbase-type speaker. Optical-In from the TV and the component-in from the CONNECT. The Bose always switched to the TV signal over music which was perfect. Also, volume settings between TV and music didn't fluctuate (like they do with the BEAM, but that's another story). Set the BEAM up today and I may be missing something here. Earlier, I was having the issue of when turning off the TV and turning music back on, the BEAM was un-grouped which was annoying. That box is ticked now and all is well in that regard. Am I right to say that the "Un group on Autoplay" setting is also responsible for the TV audio being in all the other rooms... right? And that's the rub. We don't need TV audio in the kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. It's kind of fun, but not practical and often one of us will be watching TV while the other is doing something else in another room. Am I correct in thinking that there is NO way to do th
So i've just noticed something on sonos own shop. The fact that i cannot find Play:3 anywhere means they've removed the product from sale and would mean an updated version is coming i believe. Are we getting a Play:3 Gen 2 before christmas? Discuss.
I have just bought a sound bar ,sub woofer and 2 Sonos Ones speakers ,the problem is when playing a blue ray disc there is not much sound coming from the back speakers and no effects coming from them .I'd appreciate some advice on the subject .The sound bar is very good but if i cant get any effects coming from them i may send them back .
